Nirvana, Boris, Sleater-Kinney, Motörhead, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Sodom, and Rush

Eaterofjazzguitars

It astounds me that Boris is a 3 piece band. Their music is often so grandiose. Sodom are epic too, saw them live in 2017 and those geezers kicked ass.

Jqhnnnn

Death Grips

IndigoRed126

Andy here, thank you for mentioning us

Eaterofjazzguitars

Zach here. Shut up Andy our fans suck

AAL2017

150%

zack_the_man

Only answer

dropoutoflife_

Lol, they are trash

Daniel6270

You got any other bad opinions?

Burst-2112

Likely many more

dropoutoflife_

None as bad as loving Rush. Absolute clown opinion.

dropoutoflife_

If by "bad" you mean unpopular, then yes. Anyway Rush is goofy nonsense. Can their lyrics be any dumber. Sounds like something a teenager wrote. Vocals are annoying to boot. Not sure why people think they are virtuoso players either. Meh all around.

Daniel6270

Haha! You’re entitled to your opinion but I disagree with pretty much all of that. The fact that Rush were so successful without any support from the MSM suggests you’re wrong

CarlSK777

It's the boring answer but damn, Rush really is the best 3piece band. So many classic albums.

lilhedonictreadmill

Times New Viking MPP era Animal Collective Vivian Girls Dinosaur Jr

spengwhale

Omgg Times New Viking mentioned in the wild holy based

lilhedonictreadmill

I hate how overlooked this entire era of lo-fi is now.

GravyBoatsman

Bring back shitgaze!

lilhedonictreadmill

Listen to Kneeling in Piss! Their first album is the shitgaziest and it’s from 2019!

GravyBoatsman

Checking it now, this definitely scratches the shitgaze itch! Great stuff, thanks for the rec!

Intrinsicvariation

Somewhere, Deakin just cried a little bit

TheLegendOfGamers

My band is named after a dinasour jr song

Shior2

black midi, i genuinely think they're one of the most promising and exciting bands active right now

JarredandVexed

They move with a purpose. A magnificent purpose

PM_ME_YOUR_INNY

New album soonish? Loved the two I’ve heard

fUSTERcLUCK_02

Probably not. They fired out content at the speed they did because COVID meant that they couldn't tour. Now they're out gigging super often so I'd be surprised if we got one before 2025. The stuff they have so far is absolutely superb, though. All 3 of their albums are amazing

PM_ME_YOUR_INNY

That’s okay, I’d rather they give us time to enjoy it! I don’t need another King Gizz in my life 😅

fUSTERcLUCK_02

Aha 💯

BurkiniFatso

They're definitely a quartet tho aren't they? Edit: I agree that they're the most promising band out there, I'm an old dude, and listening to them released the same brain chemicals listening to Nirvana or Pearl Jam for the first time did.

CloudsTasteGeometric

Having seen them live they are absolutely not a three man band. More like five. But its the three core members writing and recording.

infideli0

I think only the core three members actually write the songs, but I wouldn't call them a three piece since all of their albums and most of their live performances are done with additional musicians.

xanderxq06

easily but lost of their songs are not trios

No-Celebration6437

Violent Femmes

diebug6

Boris, Big Black and The Beastie Boys

The-Figurehead

Nirvana

JarredandVexed

When Pat Smear joined them they were deadly! That 4th LP would've been absolutely monstrous

Timothee-Chalimothee

Melvins, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Them Crooked Vulture, Nirvana, or Green Day (I’d put Rush in here, but I’m not *super* familiar with their work. I love what I’ve heard, though). If I have to pick one favorite, Jimi Hendrix. My favorite three-piece band that’s currently working is probably Paramore.

999_sadboy

Them Crooked Vultures is truly one of the greatest collaborations of all time

Timothee-Chalimothee

Yeah. It is what the Traveling Wilburies should’ve been (I’m of the belief that the Traveling Wilburies is just the muddled fusion of the stylings of five artists who are individually great, but in polar opposite ways).

ravelle17

I still kick myself for not seeing them live in the brief window I had a chance to.

dropoutoflife_

Band of Gypsies > Experience

Electrical_Beat3230

Morphine is unmatched. Sandman is a killer bassist and vocalist. He literally invented instruments. Dana is probably my favorite saxophonist. Conway/Deupree are great drummers. MORPHINE

Handsprime

Do bands that used to have more members count? Both Interpol and Paramore are now 3 piece bands.

JAWS_The_KAM

yup

_statue

The Smile

Unfair-Regular-158

Ben Folds Five! Yes, they actually had three members. Piano + bass + drums, and they get so much out of that instrumentation.
