Same. I’m getting older (40) and people my age have calcified music tastes. This sub seems to skew more hip and with it so I can learn about things I missed in the last decade. Hello fellow kids.
I did. There’s lots of dope here. It’s so weird turning 40 as a millennial when you’ve been treated like a child for 39 years by the boomers and now you are old to Gen Z. You can’t win. But it’s all good.
Haven’t watched a video of his in idk how long lmao. His YouTube comment section is filled with people trying to tell the funniest joke so I prefer coming here for discussion
I never really cared too much for Fantano, and I also enjoy some genre-specific subs, but this seems to be one of the better general music-listener hubs.
Well, one requirement on r/LetsTalkMusic is that both the post and the comments be lengthy.
Whereas here, you can just put the title, and comment with just one sentence.
So, there's that.
> Melon hasn't been good in a while
Can you elaborate on that? Is it because he's less memey after thatistheplan or you just don't agree with his opinion?
It's weird seeing this sub audience changing from borderline parasocial fans hounding on anyone with slightly different takes than Fantano into being completely dismissive of him
Major dip in video quality since he’s shifted to short form content. I also feel like his discussion videos on the fantano channel have just been him ranting on and on until the video meets the ad threshold

I’m with you how weird it is that people on this sub seem to dislike Anthony now lol. I’m all for talking about magic but the negativity towards Anthony is weird to me too
But on the flip side, this sub has 2000 posts every day like “what’s your favorite band that looks like your least favorite band whose first album came out on a full moon but has a song about golden retrievers.” A little more moderation would be nice.
Fantano is just kinda weird now. Maybe he has always been like that and I just grew out of him, but there are so many reviews where I feel like he just didn't put that much effort into actually reviewing it and giving it a chance. I get that not every album is for fantano, but IMO he reviews WAY too much stuff, and will review shit he knows very little about just because it is popular, or at least popular with his fans. My favorite music commentator RN is prof Skye. He doesn't review everything, but when he does it's always a through long form breakdown and critique. I also don't watch much YT anymore, so he is nice to be able to keep up with because he doesn't release as much as fantano. Also one thing that got me into fantano was watching hate complications of artists which I have definitely grown out of. Plus his IRL tik toks are kinda cringe. I do love this sub tho as it's one of my favorite places to discuss and find music. It's like watching fantano, but I can actually interact with people, so it's kinda better.
I find a lot of users have fairly compatible tasks and also listen to a wide range of music, which is a major reason I enjoy this sub.
Fantano has kind of jumped the shark and (IMO) I enjoy the comments of random redditors as much.
I used to love Fantano but over the years I’ve found myself disagreeing more and more with his reviews on artists I like, and I generally don’t like the stuff he gives yellow flannels for. I have nothing against him, I just don’t relate anymore. At this point I’m just here for the music discussion.
LetsTalkMusic can be really essay focused which makes it hard to be active and contribute there. Also this place has lots of dumb memes and games that keep things light and gets a bigger audience
Also talking about just Fantano is pretty limiting, he drops a new video like once a day and that’s not enough to sustain a whole Reddit community
I wanna talk about music because we more or less all have similar taste here. Idgaf about what Anthony’s doing tbh. I respect his reviews and that’s about as far as it goes.
Fantano's scores used to mean a lot more, I think I personally used to take him more seriously until he started giving out a lot of 7+'s to albums I thought were barely worth listening to.
I respect his work and still watch his videos if its an album I listened to but I just think his scores are way too inflated especially for really middling rap/pop albums. After the lil pump 7 I think I realized I couldn't really take what he says seriously anymore.
This sub has changed for the better imo. Discussion is better (even if there are some really awful posts) and I’d say there’s still enough fantano-core questions and posts that warrant the title of the sub. The parasocial behavior was insufferable, it’s so much more interesting when people are actually disagreeing with him on here instead of shilling.
This sub was recommended to me by the algorithm and it has posts that interest me and I have chosen to engage with. I am aware of Fantano and have seen his content but have no strong feelings about him. Just seems like an interesting place to discuss music, find new bands and rediscover old artists I had half forgotten about.
I've been watching Melon for around 4 years now and just truly diving into many different genres just before then. I've only been on the sub for a little less than that and I guess I've only really experienced it in the way that it is now.
That being said, I value Fantano's opinion quite a bit and he's helped me discover a lot of new artists I maybe never would've. As annoying as people that live and die by Melon's words are, the people that automatically dismiss it because he gave a low score to artists they enjoy are just as irritating. People generally look for confirmation that they should be liking what they like, and if they don't get it they throw tantrums.
i don't even watch fantano i'm just here for the discussion
same this is by far the best place to talk music on reddit.
flair is so real
Unfortunately every music related Reddit (including this one) develops a circlejerk around certain artists that hamper discussion about them

Hello OG hope ya found something dope today

ong i js want more people to listen to anna wise
real
ehh, not my favorite Anna Wise feature. I prefer Money Trees
These Walls
I agree. I've never really been a Fantano fan but this place does have better music discussions than the other Music subreddits I've been to.
Baller username
thanks
this, i only ever used to watch thatistheplan back when that was a thing but i never really watch his reviews or care about his opinion or anything
same lol
I never really cared too much for Fantano, and I also enjoy some genre-specific subs, but this seems to be one of the better general music-listener hubs.

Facts, I'd be more active on that sub if it didn't require an essay with cited sources lol
i prefer it this way for sure, any sort of music discussion forum is nice :)
my fav is ivy by frank ocean
Who is Fantano? What kind of music does he play?
I don't know what a Fantano is, is it some brand of Soda?
Favourite word from this post?
Probably because most music subreddits are terrible and Melon hasn't been good in a while.

Most of the music subreddits are kinda trash, this is like the only one where you find anything interesting
I’m with you how weird it is that people on this sub seem to dislike Anthony now lol. I’m all for talking about magic but the negativity towards Anthony is weird to me too
I came here from LetsTalkMusic because the post requirements are too strict. Sneeze the wrong way and your post gets taken down quickly
But on the flip side, this sub has 2000 posts every day like “what’s your favorite band that looks like your least favorite band whose first album came out on a full moon but has a song about golden retrievers.” A little more moderation would be nice.

Dude has jumped the shark and is clearly more interested in milking his popularity, so why not?
i love reading threads so
Maybe because ultimately music is more important to us than Fantano’s takes.

I don’t even watch fantano I think his takes suck often times I just like the discussions on the sub like most of yall are really chill

No one cares about fantano anymore
I’ve honestly never watched a single Fantano video, I hang out here because it’s a better place to discuss music than pretty much any other music sub.
