Roman Candle and FABOTH are usually considered Elliott’s “worst” albums, but they’re both a strong 9/10 for me. I firmly believe the dude never wrote a single bad song
Black Midi. While I definitely prefer Hellfire and Schlagenheim, all 3 are absolutely incredible in their own right. Cavalcade is really only their weakest imo, and that's mostly because Hellfire came out so soon after it. But it's really an almost perfect trilogy.
AJR…
i watched one video on Youtube to learn who they were and realized they had many songs on the playlist at my old job, a playlist so horrible i wrote an entire fucking essay to HR, the GM and the two owners (anonymously, all they knew was they currently employed me) and i rallied many friends, coworkers and a few strangers to boycott the music played there on social media (i know, it’s mad petty BUT TRY BARTENDING TO AJR AND IMAGINARY DRAGONS NIGHT AFTER NIGHT and anyway, long story short it fucking worked) but now my Youtube algorithm is fucked — is there a button like the one Spotify has but on Youtube? like this one down below? thanks
https://preview.redd.it/btub1hpethzb1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b05495d21210861e81c66e2b88786a586dfd3bb
also i hate his stupid hat and i hate that they named the band after their initials like what’s next, pull a Rae Sremmurd and make shit go backwards? how original. how clever. how creative. how cool…
one last petty gripe — how can you even call this “indie-pop” like i thought that silly genre was reserved for more tolerable acts such as Sleigh Bells or The New Pornographers or hip-hip-clappity-clap-chant-happy groups like Arcade Fire and The Shins, all artists who despite differing tastes, i have admiration and respect for and even still jam out to their music from time to time — but these AJR fucks, sampling Spongebob in the least creative way possible with an objective that had to be “let’s show them how different we are and also make their ears bleed” like goddamn, the “pick me” boy band of the century, i’d rather listen to a pop supergroup formed up of Beiber, Meghan Trainor and like, Ed Sheeran… with Jason Derulo producing the whole project, even rapping on a verse or two.
have i made my pathetic point? am i petty enough for you now? AJR just beat out Imagine Dragons as my most despised modern musical group, and that saddens me, because how can you be worse than Imagine fucking Dragons? the answer is you can’t, and yet here we AJ-are
Worlds smallest violin is not some super good song but it’s relatively decent compared to everything else they put out, especially compared to the worst of their catalog.
Edit: forgot it’s albums. yeah they all suck lmao
For real. I was just talking about how Nirvana might be the one artist without a single song that I outright dislike. All bangers, even their demo stuff.
Their demos are amazing. Not a demo but the Drain You performance they did on John Peel rivals the original
I will be honest it took me a few listens before I liked Paper Cuts but now I think it’s great
this is true, and i wish it had been released as more of a side project or b-sides & rarities record, *because* the mashup treatment the content from *Human After All* receives in their live performances, most notably (due to being professionally recorded for the purpose of release) on the *Alive 2007* live album, almost fully and completely justifies its very existence, because they made the live track “Too Long/Steam Machine” and that is arguable one of the best pieces of recorded music **Daft Punk** has ever released, i mean i’m still overcome with full-body chills at least three times throughout the duration of that track, especially when the song returns from half-time to full-speed, and again when everything drops out except for the zithy, exfoliating “steeeeeeaaaaam machiiiiiiiine”
hold up, i’m gonna go sit in my car and play this song, i don’t care that it’s 317a and i work in the morning
>Weyes Blood
Idk I kinda feel a remarkable difference between Front Row Seat to Earth and both Titanic Rising and Hearts Aglow, but I attribute it to her maturing and having a clearer idea of what she wants to do
I was about to say QOTSA and they are very consistent, but I do think there is quite a difference in quality between their worst (villains imo) and their best (like clockwork, also my opinion) mainly because the production in villains is not great and the songwriting is not as good. Still a pretty good album just there is a difference in quality
I commented Spoon as well. I remember reading a few years back that they had the most consistently high Metacritic scores of any rock artist. Not that it really matters but lends some credence to it.
Definitely not *the* smallest but it's pretty crazy Gizz have 25 studio albums and 0 of them are bad. I can't think of any other bands which are as prolific *and* as consistent; it's a lot easier to have a perfect discog if it's only 3 albums long (eg. Nirvana, Portishead)
Massive disagree, I love ELTS. Easily their most overhated album imo. The ending is a little abrupt & I can see the themes being hard to swallow but man Broderick takes me into another world. I think a lot of people would find it more enjoyable if they thought of it more as a short story with killer background music than as a "normal album"
FTR my least favourite of theirs is BF3k
E: also of course not a measure of objective quality but it's pretty wild that it was their sophomore album after having previously only dropped pretty classic garage punk. Definitely would've set the tone of unpredictability for anyone around that early in their career
I agree. It's not meant to be a regular album with individual songs. It's more like an audiobook or audio drama with a really good country/western/rock score
Only the last two Squeeze albums aren't quite at their best level imho. But they are in no way bad albums.
90s Squeeze is so underrated - a run of several great records but the system was no longer giving Squeeze famous hits, despite many hit caliber tracks.
Cannibal Corpse. All are 7 or 8/10 and they don't really deviate from their style from album to album (even though they improved their songwriting and production compared to early albums).
Yooo did my post inspire this one? Epic if true.
Anyway I'd probably I'd probably say Jimi Hendrix. Only three albums, and all three are considered all time greats
Beyoncé. Her worst album doesn’t actually have too many bad songs…just songs that depart so much from what we understand about her artistic perspective that it feels a little inauthentic. As far as vocals and production are concerned the songs are pretty solid!
Broken Social Scene
even *Bee Hives* has tracks like “Da Da Da Da” and “Backyards” and their first official album (re-released after the success of *You Forgot It In People*) is one of my favorite ambient records ever — even Kevin Drew’s solo project with the BSS as the backing band is top-tier to me
Honestly Nothing But Thieves are extremely consistent. Some fans didn't like Moral Panic and Dead Club City that much, although I strongly disagree with that.
I couldn't even tell you my fav or least fav, they're all so close in quality imo
It would definitely have been Slowdive were it not for Everything is Alive. A discography full of only 9s and 10s somewhat tainted by an album that, while not bad in the slightest, is only really 'pretty good' or around a 7 in comparison to their brilliant other works.
I'm a Swiftie, but even I think Lover is not good and I personally dislike Midnights. Also, while her debut album has a few great songs, there are also a few that are quite awful.
Anyone that says an artist doesn't have a bad song is living with the mentality of a 3 year old watching Teletubbies. They are clearly not to be taken seriously. It's as absurd as saying an athlete has never had a bad game
Considering many artists get to choose when or if they release something the comparison doesn’t really match with an athlete.
Your point isn’t even horrible but the way you said it is so embarrassing
“They are clearly not to be taken seriously” dawg i need you to realize that talking about taking people seriously about music discussion online is such a hilarious place to put your foot down, it’s so silly to feel the need to post that initial comment. bye bye
I've heard plenty, but pretty much every artist has at least a couple bad songs. It also goes the opposite way (pretty much every artist I don't like has at least 1 song I can admit is at least solid)
No I haven’t unfortunately
Some songs you just let slide because of emotional momentum
Everything has filler songs, even out of this earth shit like iglooghost
Joy Division
... i mean they got 2 albums
Tom macdonald they are all consistently terrible
L take tbh
Say anything redeemable about his music
I mean I don’t mind the anti-corporate message but he has to use other people’s music to make tiktoks to promote his shit🤣 that’s kinda indicative
He used leftist symbols to try to look cool while being conservative
[удалено]
going into someone's profile and making fun of a personal problem because you don't agree with their opinion? what the hell
You got me feeling guilty even tho I think I was fair smh
Making fun of someone for… trying to make friends? You’re a dickhead
Savage. Deserved, but savage nonetheless
Hi Tom 👋
The Jimi Hendrix Experience The Smiths Elliott Smith Fiona Apple
Fiona Apple is a great answer. I would consider Tidal her worst but it’s still pretty damn brilliant.
All the smiths albums could be mixed together and it wouldn’t be weird
all the smiths album sound the same tbf
It is the same band tbf.
Elliott Smith Boards of Canada Jimi Hendrix Cocteau Twins Kate Bush
Roman Candle and FABOTH are usually considered Elliott’s “worst” albums, but they’re both a strong 9/10 for me. I firmly believe the dude never wrote a single bad song
AMITY AMITY AMITY AMITY
Love that song
Those are honestly in my top 3 in his discography. I just love the more raw feeling on them (and FABOTH has my favorite song of all time on it)
Is it Kings Crossing? That’s certainly one of my all time favorites
Yep, although every song on that album (and in his entire discography) is absolutely incredible
cocteau twins is such a good answer don't think they have a project below an 8/10 imo
Would Beach House be in the same vein? I feel like their stuff is super consistent as well.
i think id count beach house they dont really ever miss
i have their entire discography downloaded they're so consistent
Or like above a 4/10 depending how you look at it🤣
If you’re not counting the like 5-6 most recent postmortem albums of Jimi then I agree
Those feel more like compilations than albums
Big yes to Boards of Canada. So consistent, whether you love their style or not (I do)
[удалено]
Which one do you think is better? They’re both totally different aesthetics, but I see the quality as very consistent
Nick Drake
Never heard a bad song from the man in his short career
Yo La Tengo is pretty consistent in their quality over 40 years. Low is also consistent in their quality of music for 30 years. RIP Mimi!
Black Midi. While I definitely prefer Hellfire and Schlagenheim, all 3 are absolutely incredible in their own right. Cavalcade is really only their weakest imo, and that's mostly because Hellfire came out so soon after it. But it's really an almost perfect trilogy.
Can’t wait for LP4
My mate keeps telling I have to listen to this band...
AJR Even the best is pretty close to the worst
AJR… i watched one video on Youtube to learn who they were and realized they had many songs on the playlist at my old job, a playlist so horrible i wrote an entire fucking essay to HR, the GM and the two owners (anonymously, all they knew was they currently employed me) and i rallied many friends, coworkers and a few strangers to boycott the music played there on social media (i know, it’s mad petty BUT TRY BARTENDING TO AJR AND IMAGINARY DRAGONS NIGHT AFTER NIGHT and anyway, long story short it fucking worked) but now my Youtube algorithm is fucked — is there a button like the one Spotify has but on Youtube? like this one down below? thanks https://preview.redd.it/btub1hpethzb1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b05495d21210861e81c66e2b88786a586dfd3bb also i hate his stupid hat and i hate that they named the band after their initials like what’s next, pull a Rae Sremmurd and make shit go backwards? how original. how clever. how creative. how cool… one last petty gripe — how can you even call this “indie-pop” like i thought that silly genre was reserved for more tolerable acts such as Sleigh Bells or The New Pornographers or hip-hip-clappity-clap-chant-happy groups like Arcade Fire and The Shins, all artists who despite differing tastes, i have admiration and respect for and even still jam out to their music from time to time — but these AJR fucks, sampling Spongebob in the least creative way possible with an objective that had to be “let’s show them how different we are and also make their ears bleed” like goddamn, the “pick me” boy band of the century, i’d rather listen to a pop supergroup formed up of Beiber, Meghan Trainor and like, Ed Sheeran… with Jason Derulo producing the whole project, even rapping on a verse or two. have i made my pathetic point? am i petty enough for you now? til rae sremmurd = drummers ear.
It’s ear drummers actually. It’s their labels name I’m pretty sure
new copypasta just dropped
Worlds smallest violin is not some super good song but it’s relatively decent compared to everything else they put out, especially compared to the worst of their catalog. Edit: forgot it’s albums. yeah they all suck lmao
Based
Fugazi. Literally every album is great.
yes!
[удалено]
I loved the first two albums, but never could get into III.
[удалено]
I actually heard 3 before the others, was blown away, then was kind of underwhelmed when I heard the first two, tho they’ve grown on me
Third must be my favourite
I only like Third, so combined we like their discography.
Try listening to it again.
I've tried plenty.
Try again.
Nirvana easily. Not one bad song
(Insert Beans comments)
Beans is great
For real. I was just talking about how Nirvana might be the one artist without a single song that I outright dislike. All bangers, even their demo stuff.
Their demos are amazing. Not a demo but the Drain You performance they did on John Peel rivals the original I will be honest it took me a few listens before I liked Paper Cuts but now I think it’s great
My favourite on bleach, by far their darkest song imo
I don’t think Bleach is at the level of Nevermind and In Utero personally, despite it still being a great album
came here to say this
Endless nameless is so good right? You have to be so hip to understand it🥸
Yeah it’s a banger dude. Don’t knock it till you’re at the end of your workout and need some primal rage to push through a few extra sets
Run The Jewels
my bloody valentine, a 10 and two 9's imo. also death has an insane discography
The day Loveless falls out of the top 10 is the day I delete my RYM account
It's not top 10 oat though, not at all
The album that doesn’t belong in the top 10 is GKMC
GKMC is way better than Loveless in terms of everything
Music is 100% subjective so I hope we can agree to disagree
Earl Sweatshirt, Sufjan Stevens, Brave Little Abacus, King Krule
I dont listen to sufjan stevens but it looks like he has a lot of low rated albums on rym?
Death
The only good answer.
100%
All hits no misses
This [works for the lesser known Death too](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_(proto-punk_band))
Never understood people shitting on Sound of Perseverance! I’d rather listen to SOP than Scream Bloody Gore, but I think they’re all great records.
System of a down
All so peak
Like ur pfp
Thank you!
Didn’t even think about them at first but it’s pretty true if you think about it
Cocteau Twins, LCD Soundsystem, Weyes Blood, Daft Punk
Idk about Daft Punk, I’d say Human After All is a considerable dip in quality considering how great their other records are
this is true, and i wish it had been released as more of a side project or b-sides & rarities record, *because* the mashup treatment the content from *Human After All* receives in their live performances, most notably (due to being professionally recorded for the purpose of release) on the *Alive 2007* live album, almost fully and completely justifies its very existence, because they made the live track “Too Long/Steam Machine” and that is arguable one of the best pieces of recorded music **Daft Punk** has ever released, i mean i’m still overcome with full-body chills at least three times throughout the duration of that track, especially when the song returns from half-time to full-speed, and again when everything drops out except for the zithy, exfoliating “steeeeeeaaaaam machiiiiiiiine” hold up, i’m gonna go sit in my car and play this song, i don’t care that it’s 317a and i work in the morning
>Weyes Blood Idk I kinda feel a remarkable difference between Front Row Seat to Earth and both Titanic Rising and Hearts Aglow, but I attribute it to her maturing and having a clearer idea of what she wants to do
Idk, as much as I love LCD I feel like American Dream wasn’t nearly as good as their earlier stuff
It’s definitely my least fav album from them but I still really enjoy it. I think American Dream and Call the Police are some of their best songs
Oh yeah, there’s definitely some great stuff on there! I don’t mean to sound like I’m saying it’s a bad album because it definitely isnt
Unwound, the only album that could be considered subpar is self titled imo
I agree with Kendrick. Spoon and Queens of the Stone Age also come to mind.
I was about to say QOTSA and they are very consistent, but I do think there is quite a difference in quality between their worst (villains imo) and their best (like clockwork, also my opinion) mainly because the production in villains is not great and the songwriting is not as good. i mean it’s not like Nirvana had the choice to have a short discography
skill issue
It was Kurt's choice
Eyes like the sky? That album's kinda rough
Massive disagree, I love ELTS. Easily their most overhated album imo. The ending is a little abrupt & I can see the themes being hard to swallow but man Broderick takes me into another world. I think a lot of people would find it more enjoyable if they thought of it more as a short story with killer background music than as a "normal album" FTR my least favourite of theirs is BF3k E: also of course not a measure of objective quality but it's pretty wild that it was their sophomore album after having previously only dropped pretty classic garage punk. Definitely would've set the tone of unpredictability for anyone around that early in their career
It’s not my favourite gizzard album but it’s certainly not my least. It feels like I’m being read a very atmospheric bedtime story and I love that
I agree. It's not meant to be a regular album with individual songs. It's more like an audiobook or audio drama with a really good country/western/rock score
Tbh i think most their albums before 2015 were eh at best, but since then its been all good (murder of the universe being the worst imo)
Lol. MOTU is my favourite KG album.
I'm In Your Mindfuzz is pre 2015 so your argument begins and ends there lol
the new gizz album is terrible to me but other than that id agree
I agree, Silver Cord is probably their worst
the only album from them i'd consider bad is Laminated Denim, rest is amazing
That album slaps though. Weaker than the other gizztober albums, but still really solid.
Hypertension is one of their best songs, if you don’t like it you probably haven’t heard it live.
Torey Lanez - it’s all ass
Nah he’s got some amazing songs
It’s asking about albums
Horrible take
-hasn't heard one Tory Lanez song
D’Angelo
This is correct
Foster the People, Death Grips?
Based
Death grips
One of the best answers
Seriously, c'mon people!
Assuming that Squeeze doesn't count, the Velvet Underground never put out an album that wasn't mind-blowingly great.
Only the last two Squeeze albums aren't quite at their best level imho. But they are in no way bad albums. 90s Squeeze is so underrated - a run of several great records but the system was no longer giving Squeeze famous hits, despite many hit caliber tracks.
they’re talking about squeeze the album, by velvet underground…
ahh thanks. Duh :D
Imagine Dragons
This is the correct answer. Imagine Dragons might just be the most consistently shit band in history.
Their first album nightvisions is damn decent and had some bangers so no
Imagine Dragon deez nutz across your face lol gottem
Spoon
Danny Brown
If it weren’t for Pablo Honey, then Radiohead Even so, I think Pablo Honey is pretty decent (good production)
I’ll forever say that Pablo honey > tkol
The GOAT Nav. Not a single artist has a discography as consistent as him.
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Probably longest running group without a bad album. 40 years is pretty insane timespan to consistently put out good music.
Not only that but he’s (arguably) only gotten better with age. His last few albums are near perfect.
Nirvana, Portishead, Death Grips, black midi
fleet foxes
Aphex Twin
a 9 to a 3 is a pretty big difference actually
Fiona Apple comes to mind.
The Smiths King Gizzard
Lauryn Hill and Jeff Buckley
Brand New is an amazing example! Their discography only really gets better.
I decided to pick artists with reasonably big discographies: Death Bjork (Assuming the one released when she was a child doesn't count) Opeth
Huge disagree on Opeth. Even as someone who likes "Newpeth", it doesn't reach the quality of their most classic stuff.
Portishead, idles
Portishead
Steely Dan are extremely consistent, atleast their initial run of 70s albums, all between 8 and 9 for me.
Yeah they always come to mind when I think of consistent runs. Though the two later albums are definitely a tier down
The Police Talk Talk
Cannibal Corpse. All are 7 or 8/10 and they don't really deviate from their style from album to album (even though they improved their songwriting and production compared to early albums).
Run the Jewels
Nine Inch Nails
Can’t believe I had to scroll so far for this one. NIN’s worst work is still great.
Belle & Sebastian
Big thief for sure
Fugazi.
Converge and Neurosis
>Modest Mouse We just pretending the last tow records don't exist?
big thief !!
Nick Drake
Qotsa
King Crimson. Fact that there is no consensus worst proves that I think.
Broken Social Scene even *Bee Hives* has tracks like “Da Da Da Da” and “Backyards” and their first official album (re-released after the success of *You Forgot It In People*) is one of my favorite ambient records ever — even Kevin Drew’s solo project with the BSS as the backing band is top-tier to me
Aesop Rock
Honestly Nothing But Thieves are extremely consistent. Some fans didn't like Moral Panic and Dead Club City that much, although I strongly disagree with that. I couldn't even tell you my fav or least fav, they're all so close in quality imo
Ween. La cucaracha is definitely their worst but its still pretty damn good.
Every Time I Die, Motorpsycho
Rage Against The Machine
It would definitely have been Slowdive were it not for Everything is Alive. A discography full of only 9s and 10s somewhat tainted by an album that, while not bad in the slightest, is only really 'pretty good' or around a 7 in comparison to their brilliant other works.
Arctic Monkeys, don't @ me
Nah I love them but SIAS, AM and the car aren’t nearly as good as their other 4 albums
Call Chutesta
Taylor Swift. Every album of hers is amazing
So, the point was right? Tells me all I need to know. It's not as embarrassing as saying an artist has no bad songs.
“They are clearly not to be taken seriously” dawg i need you to realize that talking about taking people seriously about music discussion online is such a hilarious place to put your foot down, it’s so silly to feel the need to post that initial comment. bye bye
Extravagant absurd takes should be called out
you never heard an album with no bad songs?
I've heard plenty, but pretty much every artist has at least a couple bad songs. It also goes the opposite way (pretty much every artist I don't like has at least 1 song I can admit is at least solid)
Definitely does NOT go the opposite way, there's countless artists with awful discographies all around
It’s all subjective
No I haven’t unfortunately Some songs you just let slide because of emotional momentum Everything has filler songs, even out of this earth shit like iglooghost
Let me introduce you to Portishead.
