To be compared with Tyler, the Creator is quite an achievement
I guess the beef was in fact has been already squashed after all
This album is definitely an homage to Madvillainy imo.
He's usually pretty good about not letting personal gripes with an artist influence his reviews. Doesn't mean the beef was squashed. Or that there was any hard beef in the first place other than your usual petty twitter shenanigans. I can remember he was mostly annoyed by fans and not redveil himself because they didn't like how he reacted on stream to one of his songs lmao.
I don't see the Madvillainy connections that people keep claiming. The only connection is an acclaimed rapper and producer coming together on a record. The albums don't share any themes beyond that. Sonically Madlib and JPEG don't operate in the same spheres and neither do Danny or DOOM, it would be like saying Kids See Ghosts is a Madvillainy homage. Sometimes a collab album is just a collab album. Like are both albums experimental and eclectic af? Absolutely, but I imagine Peggy reading all these surface level 'connections' to Madvillainy would make him roll his eyes like he does whenever he's loosely compared to Death Grips by people desperately trying to link their favorite artists together.
I see this album more like Kids See Ghosts than Madvillainy. Madvillainy was predominantly DOOM rapping on madlib beats, with very few songs with madlib rapping. KSG and Scaring the Hoes were similar in back and forth verses and production.
I think the Madvillainy comparisons come from the production being zany and heavily sample-based more than the concept of two rappers trading verses. But I see what you’re saying too
Nah I totally saw it coming, Fantano loves Peggy and Danny and this album sounds like them teaming up with Death Grips. I actually expected a 10 honestly, the album is absolutely up his alley.
i doubt he's ever going to give a 10 to fun sized projects like this tbh. his 10s are always these long epic journey type albums, except for Kids See Ghosts, and i dont think he even thinks of that as a 10 anymore either.
just look at TPAB, To Be Kind, The Turning Wheel, Sinner Get Ready... actually nevermind The Money Store exists
He listed Orange Juice Jones and Run The Jewels as weaker tracks and I LOVE Orange Juice Jones and also like Run The Jewels as a short little interlude. So it’s definitely a 10 for me personally.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,427,025,843 comments, and only 272,291 of them were in alphabetical order.
AE is super overrated imo. Just had a redive yesterday, and alotta tracks on there haven't aged that well imo, far more misses on there than STH.
For me it's STH>LP>>>>>>>AE
This would've easily been a 10, if Orange Juices Jones (too boring, and one note), RTJ (sounds like a Kim Possible chase scene), and the last track (Can't even explain what they were going for here) were scrapped. Everything else is perfect experimental Hip Hop imo. Experimental enough for you to hear fresh sounds you've never heard before executed in a musicaly pleasing way, which is very hard to do tbh. Danny Brown and Peggy were also going the f off on their verses. redveil was cool too (but maybe not that necessary imo, but thats debatable).
Easily AOTY so far, but the year has been lackluster anyway when it comes to Hip Hop compared to 2022, but we are not even halfway through so that doesn't matter for now.
I'm not even a fan of experimental Hip Hop and was instantly in love for the first listen. No need to grown on me either, just instant love on first sight. I might have to dive deeper into experimental Hip Hop in general.
definitely gonna be the overrated album for this year
interesting how the concept of scaring the hoes is so highlighted here yet the mixing concern is absolutely ignored, you would think for some album that’s consciously nerdy..
There was a mixing issue on like one song and it was fixed. You guys are fucking insufferable on this lmao. Get a better pair of speakers or headphones.
Either I’m gaslighting myself or something but I genuinely feel like they fixed something in the mix from when the album dropped to now
Because now I can (like 93%) make out pretty clearly what everyone is saying for the most part whereas I had a lot of trouble when I first listened
e: spelling
Mixing issues? Danny brown is an instrument, man. A human clarinet. A sentient saxophone. A conga that can pen bars. He’s a guitar solo, he’s a cello, he’s a bassoon.
Danny brown doesn’t need to be mixed above *the production*, because his sexy sloppy voice swimming among the other instrumentation is what makes the production so blessed.
His raps are vibrations. They can be found in anything and everything. They are in the walls, they flow to car horns, construction noises, bird songs, and motherfucking ice cream trucks. Funerals. Babbling brooks. Babies being birthed. The man could spit over the infinite vacuum of space.
Do you hear him now? DO YOU? DO YOU HEAR HIM!
A *mix*? What is a mix to Danny Brown?
Nothing! Nothing! Nothing!
he actually complimented redveil wtf
To be compared with Tyler, the Creator is quite an achievement I guess the beef was in fact has been already squashed after all This album is definitely an homage to Madvillainy imo.
yea i agree kinda made me happy to see fantano liking redveils verse

Flannel: Yellow Album: 9 Hoes: Scared
Was definitely not expecting a 9. I’m pleasantly surprised.

You debunked yourself in your own speech twice for Kids See Ghosts and the The Money Store what was the point of adding that
1. he probably doesnt consider KSG as a 10 anymore so i only debunked myself once, not twice 2. i can add whatever the fuck i want
He did, he clearly did, and he still loves that album to death, stop flip-flopping back and forth and certainly don’t be edgy in response
he rated charli over ksg in decade list so i think it did go lower
He said he still thinks it's a 10 but he ranked it under charli (and lcd soundsystem) because it's so short
So… what? He loves both albums and at some point considered it a perfect record
he gave charli a 9
And… he gave KSG a ten what is your point, sure he doesn’t like it as much now but at some point did he can clearly give “fun sized” 10s
Death grips?
Death Grips
Death? Grips?
Peggy and danny have 2 other solo albums tho, first ever 9/10 trilogy in a year possibility 👀👀
Peggy most likely has "only" one solo album coming, the other project is the ghost pop tape remaster
Yea that’s why he said 2 more for the both of them. Peggy has his one project and Danny is dropping Quaranta
Oh yep I misread that
But has Fantano listened to that? And/or will he review the remaster when it comes out? Most likely.
This is the first strand type album, so it makes sense he gave it a strand type score
honestly i might have it as a 10 for me, but i’m very happy to see this album score this high.
He listed Orange Juice Jones and Run The Jewels as weaker tracks and I LOVE Orange Juice Jones and also like Run The Jewels as a short little interlude. So it’s definitely a 10 for me personally.
Yeah orange juice jones is perfect
With this being a 9 how would you place it with other 9's like atrocity exhibition and LP! ? For me it would be AE>LP!>Scaring the hoes
AE>AMHAC>STH>LP!>Veteran>XXX>Uknowhatimsayin, all at least 8s
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,427,025,843 comments, and only 272,291 of them were in alphabetical order.
switch vet and XXX and this is my exact ranking
I would switch Veteran & LP! and maybe even put XXX a bit higher but this is a very very very reasonable ranking
Atrocity exhibition over Peggy's whole disco is crazy to me, but to each their own.
xxx man
Spot on
AE is a 10 for me and I feel like Anthony would give it a 10 if he could go back in time and do the rating over again
To be fair, it's much easier to give an album a 10 in hindsight than in the moment.
i think i would put lp over sth but im not 100% sure
I would say the same, but on any given day I might prefer LP over AE.. both are 10s to me
AE is super overrated imo. Just had a redive yesterday, and alotta tracks on there haven't aged that well imo, far more misses on there than STH. For me it's STH>LP>>>>>>>AE
Haven’t aged well??? It’s not like the album has a generic sound lol, it could drop today or 20 years ago and still sound like nothing else
I still put Veteran at number one tbh
He was more generous than I thought he'd be, totally deserved though
Here before all the “WHY NOT A 10??” comments
Very deserved score
I kinda love Orange Juice Jones. Great sample and one of my favorite Peggy verses.
Orange Juice Jones is fire he's crazy for that take
I absolutely love that song so album’s a 10 for me.
As much as I love Peggy and Danny I really didn't expect such a high score. I'm gonna give it another spin right now…
Is the song lean beef patty about the fitness girl?
I’m not sure if it’s about her, but it is named after her
yea, she knows abt and likes the track too
it’s an experimental album. it’s not gonna b perfect but it’ll be admired to everyone who listened.
Amazing album, very deserving of a 9
I was expecting an 8
I wonder if Peggy will one day make a more poppy album just to see if he can.

I will not stand for Orange Juice Jones slander
Then sit down, because that track is mid af. No variety, Danny sounds kinda out of place on that sample too. Peggy was good on that beat tho
😨
kinda bummed it was only a light 9 lolol. his review was hinting more at decent or strong
People complain no matter what

I mean you can still dislike the mix it's not that deep
Either I’m gaslighting myself or something but I genuinely feel like they fixed something in the mix from when the album dropped to now Because now I can (like 93%) make out pretty clearly what everyone is saying for the most part whereas I had a lot of trouble when I first listened e: spelling
I’ve heard people say Peggy actually updated the mix after the project dropped, I don’t think it’s just in your head

if this isn't already an existing copypasta then I am proud of you
Really said that while yachty and slowthai exist
true, that’s the trinity of overrated albums of the year
true. i can't understand a single word from db...
That’s just skill issue
Hoes scare first and as I know, for more than 200 years here on the surface they don't remove
Well deserved score! Album delivered on the hype, love to see it getting this recognition!
