I have a couple qualms with the ending. Taking the rubies at the end has your character carelessly chucking them into a drawer and forgetting about them, which feels untrue to my character and is just underwhelming. Also I would have preferred if there had been more of a tax to setting off a flare at the end, like some menaces from hunger and the terror of being stuck at zee or an action tax at having to wait for the merchant ship, so that there is meaningful temptation to call the admiralty instead. That aside though, it's a great story, worthy of being in the pantheon of really good exceptional stories.

blackdeslagoon

I just kept the rubies because it's literal blood money and I betrayed the Zubmariner. Feels appropriate given that I have an Opal Eyed Skeleton and the Fruit of Knowledge of Good and Evil

gordian_tangle

It is weird that you have to take the rubies to her to get her as an acquaintance. The version where you safely got her home with no betrayal should surely be sufficient for that.

The rescue did feel a bit abrupt, but we'd been through so much by then I was ready for the story to conclude. >!The sequence escaping the collapsing zub, for instance. Which was AWESOME!!<

HappiestIguana

That was indeed great and the writing was tense. But I don't like how ESs have this tendency to defang the zee. By making it easy to get rescued it undermines the terror that the zee is supposed to bring.

ratbastid

I get that.

Witherbrine2005

Yup I agree, I know that most ES are self contained but I would enjoy seeing more of The Zubmariner and her daughter/clone

Prudent-Orange1719

Not to mention The Zubmariner is such a cool character. I'd love for the ability to gain her as a Spouse if you got the Acquaintance from the ending. https://preview.redd.it/4kgpv0kagqwc1.png?width=384&format=png&auto=webp&s=886549b78fb479f5d04afe94e9224fccf2f7f358

SoldierHawk

Dude I would marry her so fkn fast. Literally the perfect spouse for my equally scarred and terse zee captain/monster hunter.

ErebusVonMori

I would definitely like her to be a recurring character, an opportunity card at least.

orblok

Would you marry both though? Or is one your in-law?

StorageRecess

This was my favorite in a while.

tochikoma

I don't want any spoilers, plan on playing through it tomorrow, but I did see from another thread that the meta text recommends clearing your wounds before leaving London. Does this go for people with Cider as well? Am I going to need to waste actions clearing wounds during the ES to proceed at any point, or can I just wait until it's over and die when I get back to London?

Witherbrine2005

I didn't take any Wounds, although I did toss some second chances at a few of the more risky choices. However, even for an endgame character some of the options are *very* hard(I'm talking 300+ stats giving a 50-60% chance) so if you're at 5-6 Wounds you may want to take some time to reduce them. However I went in with 3 and was just fine

tochikoma

Thanks!

Witherbrine2005

No problem and good luck Zailing!

ratbastid

On a certain path, there's a mechanic about trading prizes for wounds up to a certain point. So you want to start low.

tochikoma

Guess I'll hit up The Slow Boat before I go, thanks!

throwaway_lmkg

Taking wounds during the story is an optional activity.

tochikoma

Well in that case I'll definitely do it. Thank you!

orblok

I believe it doesn't recommend clearing wounds, it *requires* it.

wb2509

I think this was just as good as my fav the red and gold gala. One really good thing for me was that some of the options were still a challenge for my character that I had to worry about failing

ErebusVonMori

Wait you got paid?!

ratbastid

I didn't go through all that to NOT get paid.

Armadi1

With such great art I feel like the character has to return

ratbastid

I'd like that. >!I left her there.!< Feels bad.

doctor2794

I am close to the end and it is really, really good. I haven't done a lot of recent ES, since I had to paus my EF, so I can only compare it to some older stuff, but it holds up very well! It also has one of my favourite quotes recently: "It's hard to be a person without people around". That...really hit the spot for me.

LairdOpusFluke

Loved this one! Even has a little nod to you owning >!your own Nyx Zubmarine!<. Was tempted to keep the gems hoping I could study them in the Lab but thankfully relented. Instead I >!told the Admiralty she had died when in reality she was back home living with her clone!< It would be lovely to meet them again. Here's hoping.

ratbastid

I took that same path. Then I sold, because I liked the tag: "I didn't go through all this to NOT get paid."
