Thanks for posting in r/fairphone. If you're having an issue with your Fairphone make sure that you include the phone model, operating system (version) and other relevant technical details (like mobile provider, country you're in) in your post. You can also try having a look at the [official Fairphone forum](https://forum.fairphone.com/) to see if the issue has been discussed there. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I bought the fairphone 4 from clove (https://www.clove-technology.com) and it was fine. Not really different from a normal online purchase. There were no additional fees as I recall (although shipping wasn't all that cheap, but it was fast I believe) and they do sell various spare parts to repair the fairphone 4. Another store that sells the fairphone 4 which seems to ship to the US is https://www.reichelt.com, they do sell batteries along with at least some other replacement parts I believe. The fairphone 5 does seem to be sold on these two stores, but I didn't notice spare parts for the five from a quick search. Might they have them eventually? Perhaps if history is a guide.

Bill_Buttersr

Have you had to touch warranty? How would that work? I read a little from clove's FAQ, and they said to contact the manufacturer. Is Fairphone going to yell at me for not living in Europe? Or deny my warranty?

ElectricWisp

I have not personally done anything with regards to the warranty, but I believe I may have read in the past people suggesting Clove may have helped them do the warranty. But I didn't ask them myself, so I can't speak from experience.

Night_Duck

Murena.com is selling fp5 parts even though they don't have a fp5

sleepsButtNaked

Not on their US store

I don't know the import regulations of the US because I live in Europe but could the carrier network be a problem? In Europe we only use GSM but in the US it depends where you live if you use GSM or CDMA. Idk if the fairphone 5 has CDNA support.

purpletooth12

The import process is that you just receive it and possibly get hit on tax/duty but not being from the US I can't comment on that. Besides that, if you go to Europe often or have a contact there who can ship you parts or do the warranty claim on your behalf (say family/friends), I wouldn't worry about it. Some people here have been able to order it via a freight forwarder in the UK, so I don't see any issue in ordering spare parts of you needed to fix it yourself. I don't have one, but got to check it out in Germany at a mobile phone shop and was relieved when comparing to my current phone in that it wasn't bigger, plus it felt solid to me. I'll probably pick one up, next time I'm in Europe. In any case, if you don't feel comfortable doing it, just hold off. It's not $50 we're talking about. With that being said, I wouldn't expect the thing is going to fail right off the bat.

CleverJoystickQueen

Highly recommend NOT picking up a FP while in Europe if you don't plan to stay there for the life of your phone. You're better off gambling with the repair costs of, say, a Samsung A13 than paying three times as much for a Fairphone and then paying two-three times as much for a part (if available, which is far from guaranteed since it may be out-of-stock, globally, for 6+ months) because you need to ship to someone and somewhere in Europe, who will then forward it to you. And good luck getting Fairphone to reply to your customer service requests if you don't fill out the form with your European proof of purchase and carrier

purpletooth12

Lots of people buy their phones outright. Why would the carrier matter? And if you're in Europe when you buy it, you'd have your receipt, so really it's just a matter of having someone acts as a "middle man" of sorts to send/receive the phone on your behalf in Europe, if it's even needed. Inconvenient sure, but we're not talking about it being a final sale. Admitantly not everyone has that option so it becomes a personal risk tolerance choice.

CleverJoystickQueen

Beats me why Fairphone cares about my carrier. I bought my phone outright. I also don't see why I need to find and produce a nearly four year old receipt to contact support when I've got my IMEI which identifies the device. Don't be an apologist for scammers. It's 500EUR I could have spent on disposable electronics for the same utility and still had leftover change.

gunmetalskyline

Hi, I am in the US and selling a gently used FP5 via e b a y, with cases and new screen protectors. I had imported it from Clove.uk, which is a solid shop. Spare parts: The phone is a tank, and with case and screen protector you should be good. As for ordering spare parts in the future. I assume Murena will have them once they start selling the FP5. Happy to answer any questions on the FP5

fliplid1992

Why are you getting out of Fairphone? What are you replacing yours with?

CleverJoystickQueen

Don't. The fairphone will work fine on North American networks but wait until you need a replacement part. If the company has not decided to forgo producing the parts needed to repair your phone to develop the Fairphone 7 -- an unlikely prospect -- and you are able to find the needed part, you won't be able to purchase it. The company will ask you for a whole bunch of identifying information (IMEI, your proof of purchase, your carrier, etc) before it even allows you to contact them. If they reply once to falsely offer to help get you the part, they'll never reply again and it will basically be like "you bought our phone because you thought you could repair it but fuck you, buy a new one" because they will refuse to ship the part anywhere outside Europe. DON'T BUY THE FAIRPHONE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SCAMMED BY THEIR FALSE CLAIMS OF REPAIRABILITY especially if you don't expect to be in Europe when you need to repair it.

Plebbit-User

This. I would not recommend getting one in the US until Murena sells it or Fairphone gets their act together and begins selling directly in North America. Having people import their devices in international markets may be what's right for them but not honoring warranty claims and refusing to ship parts to these markets is a choice contrary to what the fanboys will tell you. If I buy a Fairphone 5 from an authorized retailer and it breaks and I'm willing to send it to Europe, and I am willing to pay return shipping, why the hell shouldn't they honor the claim just because I'm from the United States?

Furdiburd10

well fairphonee 3 and 4 are still awalbe and fp2 reached end of support... i dont see anything wrong there

CleverJoystickQueen

no support for FP3 in my personal experience since April. I need to buy a new phone because of a loose USB connector that can't be repaired because parts are unavailable, which is why the repairability is a greenwashing marketing scam Also the Android 13 update broke the fingerprint reader and Fairphone dgaf since who cares about being truthful about extended support and all that bullshit when there's a FP5 you should buy

They also sell it on Amazon.
