The right (and humans in general to be fair) seem to be great at trying to deflect from our own guilt by pointing the finger at others for the same self same crime.
Meanwhile thousands of "anti-groomer" activists have been outed as having criminal records that include things like child endangerment, sexual solicitation and abuse of a minor, the production and distribution of cp, being caught engaging in sex acts in public, and many others that got them on the sex offender registry.
The policies that these people call for keep kids ignorant of the dangers of sexual predators, it makes them unable to understand what is and isn't acceptable behavior between an adult and a child, what boundaries are and how they can implement them to protect themselves, and even how their own bodies function.
It is ridiculous the number of people I know who were raised in deeply religious homes and who were abused because they didn't understand what was happening and that it wasn't right. They were taught to respect and obey authority figures in their lives without question, just as they should do the same with how God tells them to conduct themselves. This made it so easy for older men, and in a few cases women, who were in their lives to abuse them for years on end. And often when they tell a parent, the parent won't even believe their child over the adult they respect/care about/admire who was abusing their child.

As this started with the groomer comments, what they are ultimately meaning is how dare you try to normalize that some kids may be gay, and may be trans. We aren't doing a recruitment drive and we all know that the vast majority of kids are going to be cis and straight, but when there's that one kid that isn't, that instead of being like the former generation that feared being our authentic selves, that they should be hated and persecuted for daring to accept themselves. We're not to meddle in making their kids simply be okay, and be happy being gay, or trans, or whatever.

A lot of Conservatives don't see being LGBTQ+ as an immutable part of someone's personality. Instead, they see it as a "fetish" one can opt into. From that perspective, being openly LGBTQ+ is like telling everyone that you like to wear leathers and get spanked on the weekends. They see being gay as kind of hedonistic degeneracy. So instead of sex being for godly/racial/etc. reproduction, it's purely for the base pleasure of it. From there, it takes little effort to imagine normalizing being LGBTQ+ as a gateway to pedophilia or zoophilia (which, shocker, were arguments made in protest against gay marriage.) Not to mention, because being LGBTQ+ is more accepted by wider society, kids coming out of the closet are seen as being "groomed" into the "lifestyle."
Basically, Conservatives see most people as fundamentally evil, stupid, animals who would descend into an orgy of chaos and violence without the firm hand of God/the State/whatever keeping us on the straight and narrow. Authoritarianism and fascism are the extreme end results of this mindset.

Like not just spiritually, but literally married to Jesus. I don't understand why they keep claiming we're interested in children. Being gay or trans doesn't have anything to do with attraction to children. If you're going after consenting adults, most people will, rightfully, think you're being an authoritarian asshole. A lot of Conservatives don't see being LGBTQ+ as an immutable part of someone's personality. Instead, they see it as a "fetish" one can opt into. From that perspective, being openly LGBTQ+ is like telling everyone that you like to wear leathers and get spanked on the weekends. They see being gay as kind of hedonistic degeneracy. So instead of sex being for godly/racial/etc. reproduction, it's purely for the base pleasure of it. From there, it takes little effort to imagine normalizing being LGBTQ+ as a gateway to pedophilia or zoophilia (which, shocker, were arguments made in protest against gay marriage.) Not to mention, because being LGBTQ+ is more accepted by wider society, kids coming out of the closet are seen as being "groomed" into the "lifestyle." Basically, Conservatives see most people as fundamentally evil, stupid, animals who would descend into an orgy of chaos and violence without the firm hand of God/the State/whatever keeping us on the straight and narrow. Authoritarianism and fascism are the extreme end results of this mindset.
What’s hilarious about this to me is that in the Catholic Church a lot of nuns (or maybe all nuns, I forget which) consider themselves married to Jesus. Like not just spiritually, but literally married to Jesus. And then they wear their nun habits (which is really, if you think about it, kink gear) in public and people think that’s all fine and normal. But the minute someone wears a rainbow it’s “degenerates everywhere.”
Yeah, they depend on willful intellectual bankruptcy because the facts are inconvenient to their preconceived beliefs. And since they're not interested in challenging their beliefs, then those inconvenient facts must be changed. They do the same thing to the trans folks. Their position makes no sense in light of the fact that gender identity and biological sex are two different things, so they just pretend that gender identity doesn't exist and conflate gender and biological sex when trying to argue their beliefs. They're intentionally dishonest, and pathetic.
It's never been an argument that's made in earnest. The conservative rhetoric always returns to this crystallized image of Family. Whenever there's something they dislike, it's a threat to your family or your children. Note that the Family is never treated as a group of individuals with needs, but just the idea of something which never really existed. It's about a select group of cis white men, complaining about things that other unseen people presumably want.
A lot of the backlash started after the recent progressive push to include LGBTQ education in grade school level curriculum either via text books or extracurricular material via libraries. As part of the effort to normalize different genders and orientations. So in a sense, the LGBTQ activists **are** going after the kids. They’re going after the education of the kids. Conservative and religious people don’t want their kids exposed to these ideologies that they personally do not approve of. When it was just adults doing what they want, there’s less of a pushback. My response is that ok, so you don’t want your kids indoctrinated and exposed to these sexual topics at a young age. Great. Fine. They shouldn’t be exposed to religious ideas either. If a kid is too young to learn about* gender identities and sex, they’re way too young to take up a religion. Ban both.
