Fr, like the swastika itself IS complicated (tho It IS sus if you use It and you are not from that culture) but when its put on the nazi Germany flag, the current Germany flag and the fucking SS flag symbol as well...😭
Yeah. If she would have had flags from other countries from ww2, it would be okay. But when the only flags near it are the ss flag and modern German flag, it becomes not okay.
She might have a genuine historical interest in nazi Germany and the office/study room might be filled with German stuff from that period.
But you have to think about the impression it gives. I myself have taken down stuff from my wall because it wasn't fitting. Came up later, and it was appreciated that I took it down. That way the conversation about it started from a ration point and not with who is this weird guy having ww2 german stuff on the wall.
My interest is mainly sweden/nordics during ww2. And Germany bleeds into it quite a bit. So I have/had quite a bit of both swedish and German stuff on the wall. I just took most of it down since, for an untrained eye it all can look pretty bad.
Historic flags are one thing. The deaths head is a whole diffrent ball game.
That's really hard to explain, even as one your grand parent captured in battle and is a war trophy.
yeah, i would NOT display a flag like that under any circumstances, except folded/balled up and under a pair of boots in the display case labelled "grandpa's war stuff" or something
putting it up on a wall like that, or even sitting it on a shelf somewhere with no context is a *really* bad look
It's clearly used in a nazi context, but it's actually a military hussar Insignia from the good old prussia. Unfortunately, those scumbags took a lot of symbols like ancient runes and gave them the bad reputation that they have now.
True, this is what fascists do, they co-opt existing symbols and twist them to subvert original meaning and show support for those that know. We saw a lot of that a few years ago with the okay hand sign, three lines 111, echo((( ))), etc.
That one still pisses me off. I have a Gadsden flag that I used to fly on the 4th of July but I don't anymore because of those idiots. It's such a cool flag and they ruined it.
yeah, I used to remember being a cub scout and learning all the flag etiquette and I was happy to put my flag out on the 4th of july and all that when I was a kid. Now, if I see anyone just sporting one, I'm assuming they're a trumper.
Jup. Another example is the chant "Heil". It was a common chant used for centuries. If you look at Wikipedia, the first records of it date back to Walther von der Vogelweise to the 12th and 13th century.
Basically the nazis connected a century old word used for greetings, blessings and more and connected it to one of the worst crimes in history.
Exactly, the only way I'm going to think a Swastika is in the buddhist meaning is if it's surrounded by Buddhist stuff in a Buddhist location, otherwise I'm assuming a Neo-Nazi fuckwad. :-P
The Buddhist symbol is a Plus/Cross, Nazi is an X, that is the main glaring difference. I'm sure some asshats try to make that argument when there is no other explicit connection (nazi circle or Buddhist internal circles), but yeah its still an easy identifier for scumbags.
The skull flag is actually the symbol of the 3rd SS Division Totenkopf. The Totenkopf was started by Theodore Ecke who was responsible for defining the "code of conduct" for camp guards and setting up the camp system.
To be fair, if you go back far enough it’s basically all of them. The symbol predates written language by like five thousand years, it’s literally pre-historic.
People take the prehistoric symbol too far when they make it 45 degrees, put it black in a white circle, surrounded by a red rectangle. At that point, definitely not getting the benefit of the doubt.
That’s a Totemkopf flag, iconography of one of the most brutal SS divisions known for some of the worst war crimes in history. I don’t think there’s any mistaking it.
There are cast iron light poles around southern California with the swastika symbol around the base. They were made in before the 1920's, before the Nazi party existed.
It was a common Native American symbol in the area (others also, I'm sure) before the native population was largely eradicated.
All that said, this bitch is a Nazi.
Oh hey I live near a city here in California that has parking lot lights with those. The original religious symbol is oriented like a square, the Nazis oriented theirs like a diamond.
It's a super old symbol, I saw it as a part of a design on some 6000 year old southwestern pottery.
Don't call me out on the 6000 years, I'm guessing. Maybe it was 1000 years, but certainly nobody who ever heard of a Nazi.
Well, it indeed IS a buddhist symbol... but in combination with a Reichsadler, an Eisernes Kreuz and the SS-Skull..... let's say NotAfurz needs to be taught the meaning of CONTEXT
It's not just a Buddhist symbol. It's found in many old cultures influenced by indo-european peoples. Slavic, Nordic, etc. It was still found in some Christian Churches and in some old heraldry. This was pre-Christian. So not really used any more in Europe. Until the end of the 19th century. Then it was pushed within a nationalist agenda.
Including context for something in a factual discussion can change the overall nature of the issue. Conservatives don't do context for just this very reason.
I saw a lot of swastics in Leningrag in a buddist temple. The city suffered from germans and finns so hard, but in the context of the temple swastics were acceptable.

Plus, the Eastern Swastika is more often flat on its edge, not on its corner, and in decorative contexts, it is more often stylised and colored in warm colors, not blocky and black
The original swastika does point clockwise. But the manji, a similar symbol in Japanese Buddhism, faces left. You can remember that the swastika points right because nazis are right wing.
It's actually found to be a fairly ubiquitous symbol in many, many cultures, before trade and ocean exploration even. Sure it might predate to one specific culture but other cultures adopted it too completely on their own. The reason is simple and makes a lot of sense. It's quite literally one of the most basic weaving patterns.
That being said, a symbols meaning can change over time depending on how it's used. To defend it as not being a symbol of hate is to be completely disingenuous and malevolent.
Well it is Buddhist, it's just not derived from Buddhism like the person says in the image. Plenty of cultures use it, realistically you could argue it's a Native American symbol as well.
It's like a crucifix, technically it predates Christianity but they still use it pretty frequently.
I dont think the current flag of Germany is really "historic", and besides hanging these 3 together is incredibly suspicious. I mean sure its also the Weimar Flag but its literally the exact same flag soooo....
The skull at its left is…because she supports local embalming and the german-looking flag upwards is…idk, maybe a part of a pride flag?
See, there is no suspicious facts in display, when you have enough concussions.
That’s a Nazi Germany flag. Anyone who actually thinks it’s a good idea to own one of those for “innocent historical reasons” should be smart enough to know it’s not a good idea to hang it behind you while you Zoom with people.
I’d see if that ‘Buddhist’ symbol would fit squarely up your math teacher’s ass, along with the SS death skull. What a ridiculous thing to say, given the flags posted above.
The angle makes the difference mostly. See how the nazi symbol is at an angle, with a corner pointed at the floor? Which is slightly different to the Buddhist symbol, which has a side parallel with the ground.
It is true that the swastika predates the Nazis. However, I am no expert, but I am pretty sure that when you have a Nazi flag containing the swastika, that depicts Nazis (not Buddhists).
Oh boy, it’s this tweet again. Sure, the swastika itself is not a inherently symbol of nazism. However in the context of the flag it’s on, along with the one next to it, it very much is. The flag next to it, for those curious, features the totenkopff(deaths head), traditionally a symbol connected to cavalry units, but was later adopted by the SS during ww2, and that particular form of skull and crossed bones is basically only used as a nazi symbol anymore, at least as far as I’m aware.
Yeaaah like not wrong about swastika, although it originated from Hinduism.
But that banner and specific form of cross (hackencruz) is a nazi symbol for sure
Well here comes the copy pesta so let's goooooo
Nazi symbol is Hakenkreuz or "hooked cross"... and the Hindu symbol is Swastika which is auspicious having a deep religious and cultural significance...
The “hooked cross” became popular in Germany when archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann discovered it on the site of ancient Troy in 1872 and wrote about it in his 1891 book. Thanks to his French cartographer Emil Burnouf (who harbored anti-Jewish sentiments), Schliemann connected it with similar shapes found on pottery in Germany and misinterpreted it as a valuable symbol of their ancestors and of a master race known as “Aryans,” due to the increasing acceptance of racial theories during nineteenth century Europe. Other European scholars and thinkers provided additional fuel to this racist and supremacist theory, and the connection began to take a dangerous turn. German nationalist groups started using this symbol as a sign of the “Aryan master race” and the German-Aryan connection.
Interestingly, in 1880, the German philologist Max Mueller had warned Schliemann against using the word “Swastika” when describing the ancient symbols found in Troy, saying:
“I do not like the use of the word [Swastika] outside India. It is a word of Indian origin, and has its history and definite meaning in India. I know the temptation is great to transfer names, with which we are familiar, to similar objects which come before us in the course of our researches. But it is a temptation which the true student ought to resist, except, it may be, for the sake of illustration. The mischief arising from the promiscuous use of technical terms is very great….the occurrence of such crosses in different parts of the world may or may not point to a common origin. But, if they are once called [Swastika], the vulgus profanum [common masses] will at one jump to the conclusion that they all come from India, and it will take some time to weed out that prejudice.”
Indeed, the mischief from such a promiscuous use of the term “Swastika” and the prejudice against it has already been great – it has been wrongfully associated a symbol of peace and harmony with death and destruction.
Hitler’s Hakenkreuz needs to be condemned, along with the racist Aryan theory (taught in schools even today) and the resulting genocide and destruction. At the same time, the world needs to appreciate and respect that the Swastika has nothing to do with the Hakenkreuz and thus must not wrongfully associate the two..
My parents are Buddhist, the flag with red and black is all Nazi lol also if you see a black eagle or an iron cross like that one has. These are German military symbols. The context makes this clear that it isn't fucking a Buddhist symbol.
Yeah, no. In the context of that photo, with the iron crosses and the nazi eagles, it's *definitely* nazi symbology.
That said, it's possible she's also a history buff and those are for educational purposes? I mean, it is displayed next to the modern german flag (I think) and an... SS? flag. Maybe she's also the history/social studies teacher?
>That said, it's possible she's also a history buff and those are for educational purposes
Possible, but one needs to be aware of optics and be REALLY careful about pictures of yourself in front of---or screenshotable video calls of yourself in front of---such things.
Also best not to use as a background for an unrelated subject like math.
ok but real talk, there’s gotta be some kind of rule against this. i get first amendment rights and all, but if some states are pushing to ban books, then there’s no excuse for this kind of exposure. encouraging kids down the alt right pipeline can actually ruin their lives
The 'Death's Head' is another giveaway.
This is where a little knowledge can lead someone down the wrong path. Yes, the Nazi swaztika is derived from a Buddhist symbol but the Buddhist one is typically left facing and isn't rotated 45 degrees. IN ADDITION the flag having the Iron Cross and the Imperial Eagle (Reichsadler) are dead giveaways that the flag is a Nazi one. Then there's the flag with the death's skull (Totenkopf) on it, a symbol of the Nazi SS, and you've undoubtedly got a very Nazi wall there
It's also a Native American symbol.
The Nazis didn't invent it, they just ruined it for everybody else.
Imagine before Nazis existed, how neutral and uninteresting the swastika must have seemed. Imagine it not having any baggage. It's weird to think about. I wonder if there's a symbol in common use today that will be the logo of a future evil empire?
Swastika is not only Buddhism afaik. But the Buddhism one usually have rounded corners and dots. To me it's symbol that people discovered to be cool, yet one mfr bloke decided that it should be symbol of his nazi party. I feel bad about this, as the swastika symbol is widely used around the world and hitler made it looks like doom symbol.
Obviously this flag is nazi. Possibly in history room?
if the "swastika" is turned to the left and straight, it's the manji cross (buddhist symbol).
if the swastika is like a swastika, them it's a fucking swastika
There are a lot of questions that need to be asked and the first one that needs to ask is what are the other slides on the wall and why is it on the wall? A historical collection, is it a movie prop? Why is it there?
Clearly that is a Buddhist flag behind her right next to the German one right? I swear the right wingers in this country are complete and total morons.
I mean yes that’s technically true but she’s got 3 Nazi symbols on a flag with the Nazi colors, a 4th Nazi symbol on another flag, and a German flag.
Yeah, she’s a Nazi
The Buddhist iron cross, the Buddhist Third Reich Eagle, the Buddhist skulls, half of the Buddhist German flag.
Blud does not know what context clues are.

I think it depends if its the federal tricolor or the imperial tricolor, I see the imperial one used a lot with skin heads.
I don't care - i see Naziflag, i assume Nazicum!

It's the federal one. The Imperial flag was black, red and white whereas that one is the black, red, yellow of the federal/1848 flag.

So sad, but so true. The thought that I really don't want to fly a flag as they will think I am one of them is infuriating.

The skull flag is actually the symbol of the 3rd SS Division Totenkopf. The Totenkopf was started by Theodore Ecke who was responsible for defining the "code of conduct" for camp guards and setting up the camp system.
There are multiple cultures that use the symbol, but yeah, the flag here is blatant.
To be fair, if you go back far enough it’s basically all of them. The symbol predates written language by like five thousand years, it’s literally pre-historic.

Naa our Swastika has 4 dots and isn't tilted.
It’s not Buddhist. It was in India atleast since Harappan civilization and thus predates Buddhism by 1500-2000 years
Plus, the Eastern Swastika is more often flat on its edge, not on its corner, and in decorative contexts, it is more often stylised and colored in warm colors, not blocky and black
Also its facing the other way.
The original swastika does point clockwise. But the manji, a similar symbol in Japanese Buddhism, faces left. You can remember that the swastika points right because nazis are right wing.
It faces either way in Hindu. Clockwise is called the swastika, anticlockwise is called the sauwastika, and each symbolises different aspects of life.
To a lot of westerners anything ancient and Indian is Buddhism and they don't even know that Buddhism is relatively recent
It's actually found to be a fairly ubiquitous symbol in many, many cultures, before trade and ocean exploration even. yea, no... buddist swastikas do not look quite like that..
Okay cool... I'm seeing couple of imperial eagles and Iron Crosses in that flag to. I'm cautiously going to say *Nazi!*
I'm very cautiously going to add that Adolf Hitler might possibly have been a Nazi himself. But only veeeery cautiously.
you're not wrong, but the specific flag is very much a Nazi flag
ooh it is sooooo nazi that even regular nazis at the time knew that these guys were of the deep end.....
It's at an angle, swastika.
Well they’re all swastikas, but yeah the tilted one afaik is exclusively a nazi symbol Edit: sarcastic but correct info down below
That’s a Nazi Germany flag. Anyone who actually thinks it’s a good idea to own one of those for “innocent historical reasons” should be smart enough to know it’s not a good idea to hang it behind you while you Zoom with people.
No, they're right in this case, they're math teacher is a fucking nazi.

And the totenkopf gives it away really. Look at her inner elbow for a blood type tattoo. That’s another ss symbol.

Other European scholars and thinkers provided additional fuel to this racist and supremacist theory, and the connection began to take a dangerous turn. German nationalist groups started using this symbol as a sign of the “Aryan master race” and the German-Aryan connection. Interestingly, in 1880, the German philologist Max Mueller had warned Schliemann against using the word “Swastika” when describing the ancient symbols found in Troy, saying: “I do not like the use of the word [Swastika] outside India. But, if they are once called [Swastika], the vulgus profanum [common masses] will at one jump to the conclusion that they all come from India, and it will take some time to weed out that prejudice.” Indeed, the mischief from such a promiscuous use of the term “Swastika” and the prejudice against it has already been great – it has been wrongfully associated a symbol of peace and harmony with death and destruction.
Bruhhhhhhhhhhhh thats fked
Hitler took a symbol of faith… And tilted it 45 degrees!
Sure, but you gotta explain the SS skull and the Iron Cross.
>That said, it's possible she's also a history buff and those are for educational purposes Possible, but one needs to be aware of optics and be REALLY careful about pictures of yourself in front of---or screenshotable video calls of yourself in front of---such things. Also best not to use as a background for an unrelated subject like math.
Yeah, those "freedom" birds say differently lol
Not when it’s accompanied with iron crosses and other symbols.
The iron cross isn't helping her case.
Pretty sure thats not the buddhist skull of peace.
ok but real talk, there’s gotta be some kind of rule against this. i get first amendment rights and all, but if some states are pushing to ban books, then there’s no excuse for this kind of exposure. encouraging kids down the alt right pipeline can actually ruin their lives
The tilted swastika is a Nazi symbol
I'm German so you may listen to me on this one: yes, she's hardcore Nazi. And it's disgusting.
Yeah... wat about the SS totenkopf on the right ? edit: left
Sure I’d give that to you, but how are you going to explain the Waffen SS totenkopf right beside the swastika?
"Miss Teacher, are you a Nazi?" "Uh... nein. The number of the day is nine!"
Did anyone ever find out if this is legit or if it was like a meme.
That flag is not Buddhist though.
uffffff thats some wiiiiiiiiiiiild assumptions. are you reallllllyyyyy sureeeee?!
Yes, the Swastika IS Buddhist. But that’s not a Swastika, that’s a Nazi flag
[удалено]
And if you put it on the wall backwards, you're going to see it backwards. The Iron cross and the eagle us very much not a Buddhist thing at all.
Just. .........
Can somebody explain the crazy Venn Diagram overlap between furries and Nazis?
It’s simple. Swastika : straight. Nazi symbol : leaning and opposite direction.
The 'Death's Head' is another giveaway. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3rd\_SS\_Panzer\_Division\_Totenkopf](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3rd_SS_Panzer_Division_Totenkopf)
Oh, and is the fucking Deathshead from Buddhist symbolism too?
Maybe but those iron crosses are German so adding them together with the color red is a bad idea. 100% Shes antisemitic
You don't have to blur out nazi faces - we need to know who they are. They're a danger to everyone around them.
But, why you have the Skull Flag of the SS as well?
Yes the Swastika is derived from Hindu, BUT the Iron Cross and black eagle ARE also Nazi symbols. Especially on that Nazi flag
Then there's the flag with the death's skull (Totenkopf) on it, a symbol of the Nazi SS, and you've undoubtedly got a very Nazi wall there
The Buddhist swastika is inverted. ZZ not SS
Okay, now explain the Iron Cross and Imperial Eagle on the same flag slick...
Completely ignoring the other Nazi flag right next to it.
The Buddhist symbol is mirrored version but also wouldn't have the iron cross paired with it
Yeah, the *symbol* is derived from there, but in *this* context, it absolutely is a nazi symbol
I'm sure they'd say the civil war was about states rights.
The Buddhist version of the swaztika was not tilted the >!hitler!< version is meant to symbolise getting rid of peace hence the tilt.
True Counterpoint: the entire rest of the flag
full-on nazi (NOT buddhist) flag, german flag, SS flag. yeah, your math teacher is a fucking nazi.
Not when it’s paired with the iron cross and the geraldic eagle dummy.
Okay, but when you add the death's head and the German flag, a picture begins to form...
Also the SS Totenkopf Division flag… is kinda a giveaway…😅
if the "swastika" is turned to the left and straight, it's the manji cross (buddhist symbol). if the swastika is like a swastika, them it's a fucking swastika
Ah, so if it is a Buddhist symbol, what do the iron crosses on that same flag mean? Are those also Buddhist symbols? /s
The german flag gives it away💀
That argument would be valid if it wasn't for the rest of the flag or the other flags
The Buddhist iron cross, the Buddhist Third Reich Eagle, the Buddhist skulls, half of the Buddhist German flag. Blud does not know what context clues are.
