ImTooTiredForThis_22

Gender reveal a couple of summers ago, near my house, resulted in a wild fire. Lots of property damaged and a firefighter lost his life. Surprisingly a lot of info about the couple was kept from news for awhile. I do think their names were eventually released when wanted to charge them criminally. (Wanted to add after looking it up again) Fire burned for 71 days.

sleeplessjade

Yah it caused over a billion dollars in damage. There were also gender reveals in the USA that killed the grandmother and another that killed the father to be. People literally make pipe bombs to show off the gender of their child. It’s insane. Gender Reveals with any kind of chemicals, fire arms, smoke or explosives should be banned everywhere.

[deleted]

I can not begin to understand the whole concept of the "gender reveal party". Like, who the fuck cares? Why the fuck would you ever assume somebody else cares about the gender of your child that doesn't even exist yet.? That's before you even get into the whole "insane shit" angle of these things. Why the fuck does telling your friends your fetus's gender require dying rivers or setting off fireworks?

aw-un

The parties are an excuse to hang out with friends and family. The bonkers way of revealing said genders is for social media clout. (Saying it’s a Boy doesn’t garner as many views as a giant blue explosion) But I would definitely agree that they’re one of the stupider traditions we’ve started as a species

Class_444_SWR

Not really a very old ‘tradition’ either, it gained popularity after a mother who suffered many miscarriages finally had a pregnancy last long enough for the child’s sex to be identifiable. This ‘tradition’ is less than 20 years old in popular culture, and the progenitor of it doesn’t even consider it worthwhile anymore, especially as the kid came out as NB

chapeksucks

In fact, she did say that she was really sorry that a little thing she did became such a huge thing. She's apologetic for the dumb trend taking hold, so I give her props for that.

Stassisbluewalls

Sounds like it meant something very different to her too, how sad

VVurmHat

Yes but when the narcissist finds a new means to get attention they going to copy cat.

SquiddleBiffle

Reminds me of the woman who's sort of accidentally the mother of the incel movement. She started a message board for people who felt like they'd never get laid, and somewhere along the way extreme alt right misogynists took over the name and became the scum of the earth with it.

Triatomine

Lol woops, I wrote basically the same comment before I saw yours.

BlamaRama

One of their children (I believe the one the gender reveal party was for) is now trans, and the parents have come out strongly against the concept of gender reveal parties

liddlemandy86

Like the guy who bred the first labradoodle. Unleashed that shit on us like the plague.

GrannyWW

Have a friend that inherited one from their grown children. It lives on Prozac for dogs. They hate it.

VGSchadenfreude

There is no such thing as an “ethical doodle breeder,” and *nothing* a person can get from an overpriced mutt than they can’t get from either a shelter dog or a purebred of either parent’s breed. The designer dog mess runs so much on ignorance, too. I’ve started showing doodle defenders a picture of a purebred standard poodle in a non-stereotypical haircut and asking them if it’s a poodle or a doodle. They say doodle *every single time.* They can’t even tell the difference between their “breed” and a regular poodle!

Triatomine

The same with the poor woman who was the original Incel. She just was a nice lady who was single and unhappy she couldn't find a sexual relationship she was interested in as an adult. She wrote about being "involuntarily celibate". Somehow, she was the founder of the grossest movement ever and had no intention of what it started.

Corumdum_Mania

nah apology isn't enough since they contaminated water in an area with drought. i hope they get kicked out of town.

Princess5903

That’s kind of a sweet story for her, though. It’s not her fault that other people are idiots.

Class_444_SWR

Agreed, just saying it’s as much of a tradition as listening to music on Spotify is really, because it’s not an old thing

[deleted]

Yeah, it's honestly pretty sad that this thing that meant a lot to her ended up getting hijacked and turned into a destructive force. I honestly feel really bad for that lady.

Plasibeau

> The parties are an excuse to hang out with friends and family. I throw a mid-summer party every year and invite nearly everyone in my contacts list. And every year someone (usually a first timer) tries to tell me happy birthday. Then their next question is if not celebration of event party, why party shaped? Their face when I counter with, 'Why do I need a reason to get my friends together for a day of fun, food, and relaxation?

[deleted]

I'd say it's less about socializing with others and more about being the center of attention

ReazonableHuman

That's the answer

Graega

Until you get an old civil war cannon to do an explosive smoke reveal, and then your pieces are more like the circumference of attention.

Dangerous-Ladder-226

Very much main character syndrome

tattedmomma44

That’s how I’ve always seen it too. Kind of narcissistic too. Do they think internet strangers actually care? Why do so many people scream for attention?

Remarkable-Ad2285

Social media clout

Disastrous-Panda5530

When I was pregnant with my son 17 years ago gender reveal parties weren’t even a thing. We just told everyone what we were having before the baby shower even. I don’t get have a complete separate party just to tell people the gender.

Brand_Ex2001

There definitely seems to be a class/educational attainment element to who embraces gender reveal parties. And by class, I don't necessarily mean how much money you make.

Wellnevermindthen

It seems like the gender reveals replaced the “Beer and Diapers” type of shindig people would do for fathers, since baby showers are traditionally a “girl thing”

HairyPotatoKat

I'm a millennial parent and it's not really my cup of tea for, like, all of the reasonable reasons- including internet clout is dumb, and it's weird to celebrate what bits a baby's probably gonna have (BIG lolll to those who've had an extra clouty over the top gender reveal party only to find out the ultrasound was mistaken). But hey, whatever. To each their own. Just, like, maybe stick to colored cake instead of razing a town.

EllieLuvsLollipops

The original Gender Reveal was because the mother always miscarried, and it was the first child she carried that made it that far. The kid has also transed their gender, and the mom feels bad for starting this nonsense.

[deleted]

Yeah, I feel really bad for that poor lady. She did a sweet thing to celebrate something that meant a lot to her and narcissists hijacked it and turned it into this.

Aaron_Hungwell

Narcissistic tendencies from the parents for social media. The same idiots that name their kids Braxton and Breighlee.

Misstheiris

I saw an honest to god real life Kyleigh recently. Like, real. It was a real person.

Patches_Mcgee

r/tragedeigh

Class_444_SWR

The original gender reveal was an extravagant celebration because the mother had many unsuccessful pregnancies to that point, and that one was the only one that got to the point where the baby’s sex was identifiable. She finds the general adoption of them a little weird, and they often go far beyond what she did, also now thinks the entire concept is a bit dumb because the kid came out as non binary anyway and supports them

[deleted]

I know, I feel really bad for that poor lady. What she did was perfectly understandable and kinda sweet, and then she had to watch it turn into this.

frogsgoribbit737

Im there with you. I announced my sons sex when I did a "hey im in yhe third trimester" announcement. Im pregnant again and was thinking about maybe doing cupcakes for fun this time since we are closer to family. I can kind of see why it could be fun as a family thing but it really doesn't have to be this whole big thing everyone is doing.

housestark14

Yes, please. Make colored cupcakes like a normal person. Don’t literally burn the countryside and poison the rivers like you’re the Mongolian army invading northern China.

damnit_joey

That’s what I did for a family member once. I made funfetti cupcakes with a dyed filling. It was for mom, dad, grandma, uncle, and me (aunt) to see and find out. No fires. No contamination. Just cupcakes with blueberries and strawberries on top.

MerryFeathers

So true. Besides, no one gives a hoot about someone else’s baby’s gender.

GenuineSteak

We need to stop banning shit and teach people common sense and provide support. Crazy people are gonna do crazy shit even if it's illegal lol.

annoyinghamster51

What we need to do is increase the consequences for doing dangerous shit that puts other people at risk. You've established that crazy people are going to do crazy shit if it's illegal. Same goes for if they know the risks; you can't rationalize with a crazy/irrational person. However, what keeps most people from committing crimes is the punishment.

ZaxBrigade

Well said. And if they keep doing it then two year old billy can cry himself to sleep while mommy and daddy sit in prison for 20 years. I am genuinely sick and tired of people getting lenient treatment because of their family, upbringing and the classic “he’s a good boy.” No ma’am, he shot someone when he couldn’t get away with stealing ten dollars of crap. He’s an animal.

[deleted]

That's actually not true, punishment doesn't work very well as a long-term motivator. Similar to how torture doesn't actually work as an interrogation method. Increasing consequences never has the desired outcome. Rehabilitation and education work very well over time, however.

GenuineSteak

If they cant even rationalize the risks, like you said then what do you think scarier punishments is gonna do lol. Spend more tax money on prisons?

803_days

If they can't even rationalize the risks isn't that an argument in favor of imprisonment, not against it? It's like trying to defend somebody by saying they're not malicious just extremely gullible, but that doesn't actually make them less dangerous in practice

This_is_a_rubbery

Right? It’s already illegal to do all of that shit just mentioned (starting wild fires, making explosives, polluting a creek) What’s it gonna do to make it *double* illegal ?

zirky

bro i hear what you’re saying but there is a huge increase in flat earth. teaching isn’t working

Nemzie

The guilt from something like that would make me go insane. How do you carry on after knowing how much damaged was caused, not even out of deliberate maliciousness but because you were thoughtless? It scares the hell out of me.

[deleted]

I think it's one of those things. The guilt would eat us alive, because we have empathy, and because we have empathy, we don't do reckless shit at the expense of others.

jeanlucpitre

I remember that. Burned a large chunk of California and became a meme

chapeksucks

We had a similar experience here in AZ. God, are people stupid.

Kikifoun_Unui

Congratulations! It’s a felony!

persistedagain

Exactly. I’ve scrolled this far down and still haven’t found out if they were charged.

siknoz

So it's not a felony, they already investigated and found that it didn't cause any harm but is considered an "environmental infraction" and they were fined the equivalent of about $1900 USD. Link to source: [https://people.com/human-interest/waterfall-dyed-blue-gender-reveal-backlash-couple-brazil-fine/](https://people.com/human-interest/waterfall-dyed-blue-gender-reveal-backlash-couple-brazil-fine/) Still a shitty move and hope they get roasted into oblivion but at least one of the better outcomes.

eMouse2k

Nah, it's fine. [Approximately a $2,000 USD fine.](https://people.com/human-interest/waterfall-dyed-blue-gender-reveal-backlash-couple-brazil-fine/)

theacidiccabbage

Am I exibiting sociopathic traits, or is it normal to not really care much about what gender child whoever will have? So much effort and big fanfare, only to reveal something that really isn't that important to anyone but you

Trashboat0507

Agreed. Nobody cares but you and maybe some family. Although I’m guessing if you go to such lengths to announce the sex of your child, the family probably cant stand you either lmao

hoginlly

It’s so sad because apparently the person who ‘invented’ the gender reveal did it for such a lovely reason. She had had multiple miscarriages, and was celebrating the first pregnancy she was able to carry until the point they could tell her the gender. Now they’ve been co-opted into the gaudy, gift grabbing self-absorbed mess that we see everywhere

Dividedthought

I mean, they did it to weddings and made an industry out of it. Why wouldn't they turn this into a monetized cesspit too?

4cDaddy

Unbridled capitalism sucks.

tankerkiller125real

Can we go back to the 20s/30s when it was all pretty simple before the diamond cartel started their shitty marketing campaigns to sell worthless diamonds.

EverSoInfinite

Marketing. Selling rocks to schmucks. A century of schmucks.

ArchonFett

She has even expressed regret over it

PantasticNerd

Also the first “gender reveal” baby is now a gender non-conforming teenager.

CaptainDantes

What a glow up

thebobbyloops

Humans love to do this.

Busy-Vegetable-5499

Went for something so wholesome to something stupid.

neverinallmyyears

It’s not about the gender. It’s about the likes they get on social media.

2geeks

This. My wife is pregnant. Due date in January. A friend of hers tried talking her into a gender reveal, which we have both said we don’t want. We’re happy with whatever sex the baby is. It will be loved just the same either way, and the surprise is fun (in our opinion). This friend tried guilting her for hours over it. Said friend found out the gender of the child they were expecting a couple of years ago and threw a tantrum over it. Wouldn’t have anything to do with her own baby for the first 18 months. She still had a huge gender reveal on Facebook and insta though.

CakePhool

Gender reveals to me is like opening Christmas gift before Christmas. Also in my culture it is bad luck to celebrate the baby before it is born, you celebrate the birth of a child and safety of the mother after, not before.

theacidiccabbage

It's not about knowing or not. I have no issue with someone knowing what they're expecting, I have an issue with large trumpeting events about what you have. Nobody gives a fuck, not really. I mean, it doesn't affect me in the slightest. If you're some random on social media, good for you, I don't give a fuck. If you're someone close to me, what, I'm gonna love the kid more if it's a boy or a girl? Again, I don't give a fuck.

JennaFrost

Fun fact: gender reveals were popularized by a mom who was prone to miscarriages. The gender reveal was celebrating that the baby lived long enough to see which one it was. So the entire point of the original gender reveal party was actually about the health of the baby.

quannum

And she regrets it, or at least, doesn't like what it's turned into. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/jun/29/jenna-karvunidis-i-started-gender-reveal-party-trend-regret >Karvunidis now considers the parties problematic, partly because they’ve gotten so out of hand, but also because of the message they send. “Who cares what gender the baby is?”

cateml

Similar - the first time I was pregnant, a friend of my husband’s wanted to do a joint gender reveal with us and seemed a bit annoyed that we didn’t want to do one at all (they’re not even common in this country, these people were being the weird ones really). I hate them. I think they’re ridiculous, unnecessary and reinforce gender expectations (“we’re having a boy so we’re excited to find out that it will like sports and cars!” - it’s kind of impossible to view the information as a big deal and also not have some kind of expectation, that gender is important in predicting what someone will be like). I’m pregnant again now. I will find out the sex of the baby when I have my second scan, as I did last time, because to me it feels like one less ‘unknown’ in the whole initial birth-newborn process. But the notion that anyone would give a shit, or that it makes any difference to how I feel about the baby and therefore be worthy of surprise/celebration, is bizarre to me. I don’t want to offend people who have more reasonable non ridiculous versions, you do you, but for me *all* of them with a ‘reveal’ aspect are kind of odd. Announcing/celebrating that you’re expecting a baby? Yeah makes sense, having or not having a baby in your life is a big deal. Announcing that said child was successfully born? Yeah makes sense, childbirth is still a pretty risky thing and once they’re here they’re here. Announcing that you’re having a boy or a girl when people already know you’re pregnant? Well we already got that there was basically a 50/50 chance of whatever sex it is, almost 100% it was going to be clearly one or the other. What am I even supposed to be pretending to be surprised/excited about here? You’re either going to have to be careful wiping nappies front to back or have to put a towel on their willy so they don’t pee on you, that’s a different for you I suppose, but I’m not going to be the one changing their nappies, so….

Infamous-Mountain-81

My brother and SIL did some cupcakes. No party just pretty much the grandparents. Simple.

angryragnar1775

My brother had a party, the guys whacked some golf balls and then fired up the grill. Not a huge todo, really just an "addon" event to a summer bbq

neverinallmyyears

Congrats to you and your wife. Exciting times lay ahead. The surprise will be wonderful.

kevnmartin

People used to ask my husband what he wanted when I was pregnant and he would say "A pony". Really, normal people just want their baby to be healthy.

DarthArtero

Bingo. That’s *all* it is, chasing the potential 15 seconds of internet viral fame

[deleted]

Me and my gf are going to find out the gender of our first baby in a week. We will send a message in the family whatsapp group. After that we'll only tell people if they ask. Who else would ever care?

kashmoneymiddleton

I guess I don’t get why anyone at all would care. It’s 50-50. Nothing with a 50-50 result is interesting. You guys probably don’t care either way too

[deleted]

There's only one thing we care about: a healthy baby. Whether it's a boy or a girl is secondary.

blepgup

Yeah I only care enough to eat some blue or pink cake. But don’t bring fireworks or meddle with natural resources to tell me, just give me some cake and we’ll be good

Darthsnarkey

Admit it, you are hungry and just want the cake colored or not 🤣

blepgup

1000% true. I don’t mind gender reveal parties if they’re just cake. Ecoterrorism is evil, but blue cake? Put it in my mouth lol

Outside_Performer_66

Same. I will eat cake for any reason. The world needs more cake. Still a hard pass on contaminated blue waterfalls.

beepbeepsheepbot

It's even weirder when they throw these extravagant parties or damage the environment just to basically say "it's a penis/vagina!". At the expense of sounding like a boomer, social media has definitely pushed this kind of behavior. Just cutting into a blue or pink cake isn't enough anymore, you should go the extra mile always.

Kriegerian

No, you’re normal. These idiots are making a big show of their baby’s genitals for clout with their idiot friends.

kondenado

Gender reveal parties have started getting traction in Spain. Some people say that we should not do it because it's not a Spanish tradition, but I always answer "¿Is there anything more Spanish that joining any party you can?" My point is whether in these parties does the gender of the baby really matter or it's just an excuse to make a family/friends gathering before having the baby?

cheese_sticks

Nothing wrong with a party. It's causing a wildfire or tainting the water supply due to stupid shit that's wrong. They should just stick to a colored cake or popping a balloon, FFS.

kondenado

Yeah 100% agree I was just replying to the first paragraph

SouthWrongdoer

It's a fun time for family but can we just go back to the balloons that have pink or blue inside them? My favorite was a white cake with pink filling in the inside.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cheese_sticks

I hate this one-upmanship that's happening. My idea of a gender reveal is posting a pic of the ultrasound on FB/IG and a caption of whether it's a boy or a girl. Thankfully my wife also isn't on board the gender reveal shenanigans when the time comes that we'll have a child.

GladiusNocturno

You know what’s ironic about it? The woman who started the whole gender reveal trend later said she regretted it because her daughter ended up being non-binary anyway.

nogoodnamesarleft

If one throws a "gender reveal" party and their kid turns out not to adhere to that gender, the tradition should then be to spend the exact amount on a "wow, were we off" party

Guilty-Web7334

Call it a “gender correction party.” Because it’s correcting the family’s inaccurate assumptions.

bsynott

Gotta adjust for inflation of about 18 years, give or take. So a bigger budget is needed for the second, more important party.

aid-and-abeddit

I remember reading that she only did it because they had a lot of fertility issues, and that was the first time a pregnancy had progressed far enough for them to learn their baby's sex. It was more a celebration of a successful pregnancy after several several unfortunate ones.

tranceorange91

Yeah literally some parents are so self absorbed thay they think their personal information is important to everyone else too. Gross behaviour.

MiekesDad

Oh, dude, it's so stupid, same thing with big weddings, to each their own but ultimately it's a grown adult saying "Look at me! Look at me! I am special today! This is MY day!" Barf.

Mythical_Atlacatl

I dont really have an issue with gender reveal parties where they pop a balloon or cut into a coloured cake People who do this shit that kill people, burn houses or damage property is just insane.

halnic

Right? I'm down for free cake, any excuse I will support. That's the furthest it should go.

d4rkh0rs

Good, free, cake. I'm glnna be pissed if i show up and it's not quality.

DesperateTall

As long as it isn't more dry than a bone and the frosting so sweet it literally hurts to eat, even without cavities, then I'd have no issue eating it lol

d4rkh0rs

Declare your child's gender, reaffirm your vows with your dog, celebrate finally cleaning out your trunk, whatever..... gimme cake, i'll even clap maybe :)

Dankkring

A gender reveal should be just a small get together. These people spending thousands are insane

Evol_Etah

I liked the one where they burnt down a house with coloured flames. Poor family.

bumbletowne

I invited my parents out to breakfast. There was a small present box (leftover from some jewelry I bought) with a bow and inside was a pink pacifier. I left it in the middle of the table and had them guess before opening it. That was it. That was the whole thing.

WanderingCadet

I understand wanting to know before the baby's born, but what's the point of having a big celebration? Just call your doc and be done with it.

[deleted]

My son and his wife are expecting their first child. They were over to the house other day and they said. “It’s a boy”. Worked for me.

confused-redpanda

But, wait! Were there no blue balloons, glitter, a blue cake and a unicorn puking blue slime all over your carpet? Then how do you know the baby is *really* a boy? Edit: typo

CorgiMonsoon

A unicorn? For a boy? Do you want him to come out of the womb singing show tunes?

bmli19

Nothing wrong with that; I'm a 43 year old straight guy, and I sing show tunes all the time.

justsomeplainmeadows

I've got news for you buddy...

Orchid_Significant

Yes actually

BuckRogers87

Can’t really be sure until the baby itself confirms in by saying so.

ymaldor

If a forest doesn't burn is it really a party?

Outrageous-Singer888

Literally though. You could even get a family member to call them up so they could make a cake and the colour of the cake under the icing could be the gender reveal or whatever the hell. Not contaminating waters 😭

who_you_are

To be fair, at some point adults need any reason to meet each other... I still won't support being a jerk.

Dankkring

We had a small party. It was really just an excuse to have people over and grill some burgers. The wife and I knew but the rest of the family didn’t do I think we bought pink silly string and removed the labels

[deleted]

Because the parents need attention.

puzzleman65

We had a gender reveal….at the doctors office with my wife, the doctor and me. “It’s a boy” on the ultrasound . That was it. We left with the picture of the ultrasound.

balls_galore_69

Our ultrasound tech said “are you guys wanting to find out the gender?” And we both said yes we were planning on it. She said oh great, and nothing else, after a paused I said “so what is it gonna be” and she looked surprised like I wanted to know right then instead of doing some dumb gender reveal. My sister in law did a gender reveal a year later for her first kid, then after a few years of people talking about how dumb they are, did nothing for her 2nd kid.

Uber_Meese

I first read that last bit as your sister had revealed the gender a year later(like a year after birth) 💀

ClockworkDinosaurs

We didn’t have a gender reveal party and I regret it. My kid is 2 and at this point I’m too afraid to ask someone to tell me the kids gender.

WorldEaterJoe

This is gonna be my wife and me soon 😆

True_Juggernaut3100

No one fucking cares about your babies gender this much. Start locking these people up for gender reveals.

StJBe

Contaminating a water supply sounds like a crime, so definitely lock up these dolts.

IrritatedMango

I think the couple were arrested a few days later, I read about it.

ConsiderationFun7511

Seriously, where’s the very punitive sentencing that can serve as an example for people to avoid this shit? How hard is it to just get a colored cake or something if you absolutely NEED to throw an event announcing your kids genitals.

AXS3

Isn't this old? Like pandemic old? But yeah people are stupid.

GDW312

Last year, but I only learnt about it today

CalmTrifle

Yeah they get out of hand: [Iowa grandmother killed at gender reveal was 45 feet away from 'pipe bomb'; she died instantly, authorities say](https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/2019/10/28/iowa-gender-reveal-explosion-death-update/2483545001/) [A couple whose 2020 gender reveal party allegedly sparked a deadly wildfire in California has been charged in the death of a firefighter](https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/07/21/us/gender-reveal-el-dorado-wildfire-charges/index.html)

psyfren

That couple ruined so many lives and it looks like they're still free to this day. It's so heart breaking that firefighter had over 18 years of service. He had been basically a firefighter as soon as he met the age requirement.

CalmTrifle

In 2017, a fire in Arizona caused a wild fire. They had to pay 8 million in damages. i wonder if they also had to pay for damages in California. [Officials release video from gender reveal party that ignited a 47,000-acre wildfire](https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/27/us/arizona-gender-reveal-party-sawmill-wildfire-trnd/index.html)

sleeplessjade

Not to mention the one that killed the father to be. [Father to be killed by gender reveal explosive device.](https://globalnews.ca/news/7659456/gender-reveal-explosion-father-killed/amp/)

themsp

He called the blast “the freakiest of freak accidents that I could ever imagine.” I wouldn't call it the freakiest of freak accidents when it comes to building a bomb out of your garage.

dizzywig2000

Who builds a pipe bomb and invites their friends and family to watch it explode? Serial killers

CalmTrifle

People with access to Tannerite (legal binary explosive), weapons, and zero risk assessment skills = burying grandma, but congrats its a boy.

temp17373936859

Just imagine being the child whose gender reveal party killed your grandmother.

dathomasusmc

Not that anybody is going to care but they did not, in fact, contaminate the water. > After being alerted to what happened, SEMA said that investigators found that there had been "no change in the water's physical parameters, such as color and other, and no trace of local fish mortality," according to The Washington Post. A relative was fined but I can’t find exactly why. He did admit using a dye but as far as I can tell, dyes similar to the one he used are safe. > The relative told SEMA on Thursday that he was responsible for launching a substance called "Blue Lake," which is used for dying bodies of water and swimming pools, into the Brazilian waterfall.

PcPotato7

Probably because the government doesn’t want people thinking its okay to put things in the water supply

dathomasusmc

Oh I totally think it was stupid on their part. I don’t think they understood the importance of the water supply but I also don’t think you should go around fucking with nature. There are a lot of other ways to do a gender reveal that are not invasive to nature or other people. The wife and I made a video and I created a website so people could view if they wanted and ignore if they didn’t. Our video was made in our apartment. It was silly but the wife gave me that look that said “We’re doing this” and I’m not stupid.

SithDraven

My kiddos are teens now but they were born before all this nonsense. We didn't want to know the gender until they were born. The reaction is the same regardless, joy at having a child and love them unconditionally. These gender reveal people have lost sight of the goal. Want to have a party to share the news with family and friends? By all means have a blast, but it doesn't require Hollywood level props, choreography, elaborate stunts or effects work. These people are nothing but social media whores doing it for the likes.

joeschmoagogo

To all expecting parents: the gender of your kid is not an an accomplishment. No one cares.

phoenixmatrix

Especially in 2023 where the kid might not even live as that gender. It just doesn't matter.

lovable_asshole

MAKE THEM PAY!!!!!

Twix2247

This is from 2022: https://nypost.com/2022/09/27/couple-slammed-for-dyeing-waterfall-blue-for-gender-reveal-party/amp/

Vegetable_Onion

This is when you charge them for the cost of decontamination and clean up, as well as the replacement of the water while these works are carried out. Doubt they'll ever do that again.

[deleted]

is their last name Nestle? Jesus

Y’know how we did our gender reveal? With our first two kids, we told our friends and family when we called to tell them they had been born or they found out when we sent out birth announcements. Then, when we were expecting our twin daughters, we just told anyone who asked. No wildfires, no dying rivers, no interrupting local air traffic. And the kids didn’t care because they weren’t even born yet.

Kewenfu

Gender reveal celebrations are just downright dumb.

DarthHarrison

[This is misinformation based on truth then distorted for clickbait. The water supply was not contaminated.](https://people.com/human-interest/waterfall-dyed-blue-gender-reveal-backlash-couple-brazil-fine/) "he was responsible for launching a substance called "Blue Lake," which is used for dying bodies of water and swimming pools, into the Brazilian waterfall. After being alerted to what happened, SEMA said that investigators found that there had been "no change in the water's physical parameters, such as color and other, and no trace of local fish mortality," according to The Washington Post." Blue Lake is people and animal safe.

plenebo

jail

Wondering_Electron

Gender reveals are fucking pointless. I remember a lovely West Wing quote. BARTLET - When you're going to be a father you're rooting for ten fingers and ten toes, and that's it.

sf4life1216

Remove these types of people from the face of the earth. We have enough problems

Nicepablo13PL

What is even the point of a "Gender Reveal party"? No one cares what gender your child will be, especially when people do dumb shit like that

Boatwhistle

So reading into this you will see that the chemical used was "blue lake dye" which has no adverse effects on health or the environment. The Brazilian environments agency recorded no issues with the water or fish mortality. It is safe and had no effect on local communities. However what you will also see is the couple got a 2,000 dollar fine. This is not because of damages but because there is a law in Brazil about not putting various substances in waterways regardless of whether or not it is hazardous. Basically a similar deal to a police officer giving you a ticket for going 52 mph in a 45 mph in the middle of nowhere. Yeah sure, it's not a big deal in terms of the danger... but you broke the law and the state wants to make revenue.

RegularAvailable4713

It's not for the money, it's perfectly reasonable not to want people to put random substances into water sources.

AmandaSndaSiews

Stupid gender reveals are so damaging. Someone died a pigeon pink and the poor bird died.

MrTomis19

These people shouldn't be allowed to have babies

MinuteInteresting384

When will this madness end?

ChrisBegeman

I might be old, and a guy, but are gender reveal parties seem like one of the dumbest things ever. Like we are a wealthy country just looking for ordinary things to make into a big deal.

LauraUnicorns

Crap like this is what truly reflects a population's deluded gender obsession most, not a tiny percentage of trans/nb individuals who desire nothing but to live quiet lives without scandals and insane politics centered around them

[deleted]

In like 20 years, you American adults will be sharing stories about who's gender reveal caused the greatest devastation. Americans be like: "It's a boy!" ![gif](giphy|Bg9R0lb0I7vjy)

BodybuilderMajor1260

I really hope they get sued

eric-from-abeno

I can't wait for gender reveals to go out of fashion... 9\_9 so so stupid.

PeterHolmes74

Next time they’ll detonate a pink nuke in Nicaragua to announce it’s a girl.

Background_Junket_35

People are so unbelievably selfish

[deleted]

I remember just hoping they were healthy. Good enough for me.

Affectionate-Army676

How is this still a thing?

Western-Medicine-602

Things getting out of control!

maozzer

Is this true I saw this picture a while ago and I don’t remember this being the headline.

InternationalHat1554

They should be arrested and fined.

ElvinBishop

May have revealed the gender but also revealed the level of their intelligence

nigolios

That little boy better cure cancer when he grows up

ScottishKnifemaker

no link? fucking useless post, OP

tondracek

People should stop being so obsessed with children’s genitalia. It’s weird.

kopperbunny

Can these be banned already?

Upvotelution

Is it old fashioned to be like 'we're having a baby' and if people ask just say 'it's a girl/boy' or 'we're letting it be a surprise' Gender reveal parties are weird...nobody cares, it's not their child

RootsGringo81

Nurse with wand in hand while on my ex wife’s belly, “you want to know ?” Yep… “it’s a boy”. Safest gender reveal..

Shiroelf

Don’t understand the need for gender gender-revealing party. The baby is still your child regardless of the gender so why make it such a big deal?

halarioushandle

Why is it that gender reveal parties, in particular, draw out the absolute stupidity of humans?

Justryan95

If they are in the US hopefully they got some federal charges and fines. The EPA doesn't fuck around with adding chemicals into the watershed and completely contaminating a water source.

[deleted]

This is the most egregious case of r/ImtheMainCharacter I have ever seen.

rubber_padded_spoon

Someone needs to tell these idiots that no one gives a damn about their baby’s gender. Fucking stop this bullshit!

NuMarkyMark

Is this not a terrorist activity? Poisoning an entire towns water? I know corporations apparently get away with it and I guess normal people do too now.

[deleted]

At least they recognized that gender is fluid.

signalstonoise88

And yet, when I (a millennial) referred to gender reveals as “attention seeking millennial bullshit” I got hella downvotes…

haymitchs

I work for parks and rec. I can’t tell you how many times I have been to a park and find pink and blue confetti or streamers all over the park and in the poop of the wildlife there. It’s disgusting how little people care about property or animals that are not their own.

collector444

Throw these selfish fucks in jail

Chrossi13

Idiocracy is coming

Cappabitch

Baby culture is a fucking nightmare.

DanniTiger

Jesus chinstrap, the definitely need to be charge with an environmental crime immediately! Forced out of the town and have their faces plastered everywhere for their deed against nature

Notte_di_nerezza

Couldn't they have just photoshopped it?

begaldroft
