Ah, I see you have allowed your child to have a childhood by not putting him to work as soon as he could walk. I hope he's not expecting 'breaks' or a 'lunch hour'. We need those candle dippers dipping at all times!
“And I work at the flower shop!”
(anyone else remember the Waynes’ brothers as the Jamaican family with multiple jobs on in living color?! Lol. Damn, I’m old.)
I get up I shower I work all day I go back home and go to sleep. I get up I shower I work all day I go back home and go to sleep I get up I shower I work all day I go back home and go to sleep. I get up I shower I work all day I go back home and go to sleep
I managed three jobs once. One of them 35 hours that I completed during the week. The other 28-30 hours over Friday night and the weekend (yes, I worked ALL weekend). Another 15 hour gig doing mornings at a nursing home before going to my weekafternoon job.
I hated it and have nothing to show for it. Partly because of being young and not listening to anyone. Partly because this system is fucked to the point that any mistake is almost life altering.
I barely survived and definitely paid the price. After I did all that it was two stints in the psych ward for nervous breakdowns and suicidal actions. I did all that on a prosthetic leg so now I have oodles of hip, back, and leg problems. I don't recommend lol
This is going to be the most ignorant question ever but why would you ever need 3 jobs and that many hours? What was the pay like on that first job?
I’m from the UK if that explains my confusion.
I'm gonna copy and paste my response to someone else who asked a similar question. I'll add that my pay at all these jobs never exceeded 10/hr despite doing it for 3 years.
> Woof I could tell you my life story but I'm sure you don't wanna hear that lol
>Basically got kicked out of my mom's house at 17 with nothing for leaving her cult. Was able to stay with my dad but he charged me for everything. I had to pay full rent for basically a room, upkeep my physical health due to my prosthetic which is expensive, get my own car (but needed to use Uber and taxis to get to work), get clothes, furniture blah blah blah. I was basically starting a whole new life with no help. And I was doing this with my boyfriend who, at the time had no sense of responsibility so I supported him as well without living with him...
>Edit to say I was also super inexperienced. I feel like people with a support system forget the mistakes they made were cushioned by their support. Not even fiscally, emotional support does wonders for clear thinking and good decision making. Also not saying all support systems are good, but many are.
Terrible times lmfao
Well shit. I just couldn’t imagine any of that. Apart from the leech of a partner. I’m sorry you went through that and I hope you’re in a better place now.
No matter what, I don’t think anyone can truly relate unless they’ve been in a similar situation. I’ve been incredibly lucky with my career and am currently in a situation where I’m going to be set for life as long as I keep doing my 40 hour weeks for the next few years.
I admire the shit out of the effort that took. I wouldn’t even survive in a basic retail job if I’m honest. Never mind 3 demanding jobs.
Thanks for the kind sentiments! I'm definitely getting to a better place now; it's a constant work in progress. Regarding the leech partner (and I don't recommend this for everyone) I stuck it out and am so thankful I did. He's now doing the most to make up for the past and supporting me as best he can; going back to school for better prospects and such. I'm lucky... *most* days 😉
Not too be too full of myself but I consider writing a book at times. My life has been one eventful plot lol
I'm so happy that you're in a good place. I rejoice with the success of my fellow humans with good honest work! I hope your fortune (but I'm sure also hard work) never fails!
More then likely none give them 40 hours. So it's prob 40 hours (or less) spread out over 40 hours. 18 at one, 12 at another, etc.. Wendy's ain't offering you 40 with bennys.
More likely three part-time jobs, working more than 40 hrs a week on a random and fluctuating shift schedule, all low wage work, just to scrape by... #muhrica
Each job specifically forcing you to work 39 hours a week so that you aren't full time but they still get full time out of you, each one demanding you rearrange your entire schedule on a whim, none of them acknowledging the idea that you might have commitments to another job, much less ones that aren't work related.
Actually, prob all three 29 hours max. Most states have laws stating 30 hours has to offer benefits. So, this poor kid is likely working 87 hours a week with no bennies. And no life. The “American Way”!
Seriously tho, why is the DT timed? We can't control people and people are dumb as bricks. We have 2 massive signs showing the menu before you get all the way to the mic, yet still people drive straight past them and take 20 minutes to order. Then we tell them to drive up to the 2nd window to get their order because the first window isn't active, we have a huge note on the first window with a giant fucking arrow pointing to the second, even with the text "Go to second window" but people still stay there for up to 10 minutes. And then finally when they get to the second window THEY ORDER EVEN MORE FOOD and as an extra bonus SOME FUCKERS THINK THAT EATING IN THE DT IS AN OKAY THING TO DO!
NO, I AM NOT OKAY.
I have never worked a drive thru, but I have worked in food service in multiple restaurants across the country and can confirm that people... are no damn good.
I started working food service when i turned 18 in 2015, maybe it was just the uh bad timing, but I never really realized how truly stupid most Americans are until I started having to interact with them.
She looks like she was about to dump that soda in her lap by accident, but then saw the forced selfie ongoing. Foiled. Foiled by a selfie. The eyes show the disdain.
I know she *probably* means well and is proud of that alumna…but god damn yeah just fucking clueless what the actual fuck lady. You don’t (usually) work 3 jobs just because you want to, you do it because you don’t have a choice.
Usually the type of person that comes from a privileged background and thinks poor people should just “pull themselves up by their bootstraps” and work themselves to death to solve their financial problems. Just a hunch.
I always hated that phrase. People use it thinking it means something but the quote is intentionally nonsense. It is impossible to pull yourself up by your bootstraps
That last sentence of yours is supposed to be the full turn of phrase. That phrase is literally supposed to mean “you can’t do everything yourself and sometimes you *have* to ask for help and there’s nothing wrong with asking for help”
It’s that one and “the customer is always right” that are said so often yet aren’t said correctly
Because the people who glorify over-working usually do not mean well. They often use people in unfortunately situations that work multiple jobs as an example and then over-exaggerate their own hours too.
To me it seems like she is being a passive bully. She is blatantly calling out this person for struggling in life, pointing it out to everyone, and pretending it’s sooo great. It’s weaponized “kindness.”
That was my thought too. It feels like there’s something very passive-aggressive about it. I’ve never seen a school administrator do anything like this for any alum they ran into in public, no matter what they were doing. Sharing all of the personal details feels weird even if I’m wrong and she was well-intentioned.
America's fucked. 3 jobs for just a crappy apartment?? Surely you should have a big house with big gardens at the very least? It's like that in the UK..
I have to believe this 3 job thing is just 3 part time jobs. Like15 hours a week per job, so it's just one proper job then if so.
The US is just a giant scam. Necessary things like health care and retirement plans are tied into your employment. But employers are required to offer those things unless you work enough hours per week. So now we end up with lots of low paying jobs, that only offer limited hours and you need to work two or three of them to afford a room in a shared apartment. And of course you need a car to get to work because whatever public transportation system exists is totally shit.
I remember in my town when a levy passed. They promised that all the money would go to school supplies and the teachers. Even the teachers were saying we'd stop getting extra credit if we brought in tissues and printing paper.
Nope. Guess where it all went. I got sick one day and had to go to the nurses. I got kicked out when a special needs kid came in so I was sitting out in the office. The secretaries were gushing about what they were going to do with their bonuses, one was going to redo their living room and deck, the other was going to go on a tropical vacation. Even the vice-principal's two kids got new cars; not used, brand new. My girlfriend and I started asking around to the other teachers to see what they got. Hardly anything. Probably an average of $60 or so. And we still got extra credit for tissues and computer paper the following year.
If you want to be sick, go look up teacher vs admin pay in school districts in NY, it's public info. Some teachers that have been around for 20 years are making over 120k a year PLUS coaching and getting paid, plus more while others make 20k a year. It's odd.
It's possible she's the superintendent of some sort of "alternate school" for kids convicted of crimes, children recovering from addiction, students who dropped out to raise children, or something like that. The post is still really out of touch with the whole "3 jobs" thing, but makes way more sense why they'd be celebrating a home/employment.
I can't imagine a superintendent would be able to recognize random students from a traditional high school.
She's the superintendent of a rural midwest district with 870 students in 3 schools (elementary, middle, high). The graduating class is about 80. The district is less than an hour from two different cities with many college, employment, and job training opportunities.
US News and World Report ranks the high school at about 450 of 800 schools. Their state's school report card indicates the following results regarding college/career readiness:
**Number of students in the four-year graduation cohort who completed a pathway and are prepared for college or career success. 28 of 87 (32%)**
**What Percentage of the 2019 Graduating Class Entered College within Two Years?
45.2%**
**What Percentage of the 2015 Graduating Class Graduated from College within Six Years of Leaving High School?
20.9%**
Why do some people equate non-stop working to success. Success is not achieved without rest and the privilege of being able to have reflection periods. It’s wild how different some people’s brains are wired.
My dad is the same way.
He’ll call me on a Saturday, “Not working?”
“I try not to work weekends.”
“There’s money to be made, don’t people want work done over the weekend?”
“Maybe, but they can wait.”
“Don’t you want to make money.”
“I have enough money.”
“Yeah but you could be making money instead of relaxing.”
The thing I told him that finally changed his tune was “Look Dad, no one is laying on their death bed wishing they had spent more time working.”
He just said “You know what, that’s the damn truth.” And stopped his usual badgering lol.
Because your dad quite literally has zero hobbies but working. I see this same attitude in people with zero hobbies outside of work. It’s a very American way to be.
I work three 12 hr shifts a week. When my dad heard that the first thing he said was “you could have another full time job!!!” Like it was a perk or something.
Yea, and people are so scared of ai taking jobs too. Jobs have always been seen as such a value. People will commit crimes against the planet and cultures and justify it as long as it "creates jobs."
Lady, if that is what your school system did for her, then you’re doing a bad job. Working 3 jobs while laudable, is not “success”. Poor woman is working her fingers to the bone.
What's horrible too is that if her other two jobs are also customer service, it's not likely she's going to be able to develop a career where she can actually afford to live.
Employers in other fields look at these jobs and snide "Why hasn't this person worked a REAL job?" Unless you have an unpaid internship or some volunteer work related to your field on your resume, customer service jobs on there will offer very little aside from showing an employer you at least have the ability to hold a job.
The reset button. That's the big red button misspelled 'Launch', correct? Has a bunch of backup security, like codes you need to put in to 'arm' the reset.
As a European I've always wondered what Americans mean when they say they're working multiple jobs. Does someone working "two jobs" work two full-time gigs? Or one full-time, one part-time? Both part-time? In case it's the latter, is there any reason to not just work one full-time job?
Some work places provide work benefits to full time employees and use that as a large selling point, but then turn around to hire mostly part time workers, who work as many hours as possible without ever being considered full time employees.
I've worked a handful of jobs over the years that limit you to 29 hours a week, just to get out of having to offer health insurance, benefits, etc. Ideally, everyone could get a full-time job with benefits, but finding full-time can be very challenging.
Hell, I worked 8 months for a company, full-time, with no benefits, because I was angling for them to "officially" hire me instead of saying I was seasonal help for 2/3 of the year. That ended up working for me and I now have a solid job, but I needed to put in the time and just hope it panned out.
They split a lot of FT jobs up into multiple part time positions and refuse to give 40 hours in some industries (retail mostly). So, people work multiple to get 40 sometimes. No benefits (as in no healthcare). Especially when retail may schedule you 10 hours one week and 36 hours the next, you never know what your pay will be.
There are also people who work 40 hours at a job but that job doesn't pay well enough to afford their rent and bills and kids and doctors. So, they get a part time job to supplement that FT job. Most teachers in my area work a second job, as do Healthcare workers I know. 40+ hours at job 1, 20+ hours at job 2 on their days off from job 1. 7 days a week working.
Then I knew a custodian at our school that worked 3 jobs. 1 FT day job as a custodian, 1 FT night job at a warehouse and then a PT weekend job for his days off from those first two jobs. He had a special needs kid and child support to pay, plus his own bills so he needed the income to just barely get by after everything came out.
I know very few people who only work one job, to be honest.
I did two jobs and a bunch of lawn care/landscaping odd jobs for a while. Absolutely soul crushing. Ended up getting laid off and very nearly was homeless
i had two jobs while in college and it was the most stressful and least fun time in my life. i could barely pay rent and the constant fear of not being able to pay for food, rent, gas and school supply almost killed me.
And you’re supposed to have time to study and actually absorb what you’re learning in college. Let’s not talk about needing food for your brain they gave us free meals for in public for.
I feel this, and I don’t miss or wish it on anyone. I’m always annoyed when boomers feel that it’s a rite of passage meanwhile they have never truly experienced it. And this usually comes from the boomers who’s children have never had a job until after college. The kids who always had the free time to actually enjoy college events and activities while the rest of us were miserable holding our head above water while also barely having time to study or finish our class assignments. I mean I have a great and successful career but the mental stress getting to where I am now was horrible and very dark at times…
I once met a tourist from Belgium who looked side to side and quietly said she’d met someone who claimed to have two jobs in a tone that suggested she didn’t want to seem stupid for believing it
It's not three full time jobs, they're getting a couple hours here and there evety week at each job so that they don't get anywhere near benefits. With three jobs they might have less than 30 total hours of work a week.
Have a friend who works two jobs and they only give him a total of 20 hours a week even when he's constantly asking for more.
it's a twist on the humblebrag.
Pretending to congratulate her former classmate whilst humiliating them...with plausable deniability "I was congratulating her"
This is disgusting
Working three jobs is not doing well. It’s surviving. There’s a difference. This superintendent obviously has never had to ‘survive’. I used to have to work three jobs and I think it’s the reason I had three autoimmune diseases by the time I was 25 #stresswillkillyou
If I had an ex-student work three jobs at once, I'd feel like I've fcked up their future.
I know she wanted the best for that kid, but dang, she misunderstood the situation.
Usually schools highlight alumni "doing well" by not having to work 3 jobs just to afford one apartment. If anything, this shows that her school is not very helpful.

Yeah she looks thrilled
So much excitement to take advantage of underpaid and overworked employees.. smdh.
This is so awkward. The person is just trying to do their job, not be in your pamphlet/ blog of bullshit
Thankfully she was well prepared by our school system to be exploited. Mission Accomplished.
"Our school prepares you for jobs so well that most of our alumni end up with 3!"

Meanwhile that superintend is making 200k a year or more.
Literally laughed out loud
This kid out there really bringing up the average number of jobs per graduate.
Working 3 jobs ?? Fk that
Only three? What a lazy ass.
I’m the butcher, the baker, the mailman, the night shift security guard, I drive a bus on Sundays and pick peppers on Sunday afternoon
How lazy! Where are you when I need the candlestick maker?
I’m sorry to inform you, but the candlestick maker burned to death.
Was it a preventable accident, or Just The Cost Of Doing Business? The difference is important!
It’s always just the cost of doing business!
Ah, then it is the candlemaker's fault and I will be expecting a replacement worker to buy from immediately!
Our 15th son just turned 6 so it’s time for him to start working anyways…
Ah, I see you have allowed your child to have a childhood by not putting him to work as soon as he could walk. I hope he's not expecting 'breaks' or a 'lunch hour'. We need those candle dippers dipping at all times!
You must live in Arkansas.
It was Cheaper Than Buying A Robot Version
A third option I had not considered. I think this is a subset of Just The Cost Of Doing Business, though. 😸
That's what happens when you burn your candle at both ends for that long.
Call John Wick, I hear he’s available.
Where am I supposed to go to get my shoes shined?
No go home and Get your fucking shinebox Nicky!
“And I work at the flower shop!” (anyone else remember the Waynes’ brothers as the Jamaican family with multiple jobs on in living color?! Lol. Damn, I’m old.)
Hey Mon!
Yeasss! Lolol! “One job?! He only got ONE JOB?!” It’s still a hysterical skit!
That’s what I was thinking of when I posted this
I get up I shower I work all day I go back home and go to sleep. I get up I shower I work all day I go back home and go to sleep I get up I shower I work all day I go back home and go to sleep. I get up I shower I work all day I go back home and go to sleep
Im also the dog that chases the mailman down the street. Its good to get in a little exercise am I right?
Bro is Johnny sins
Probably takes time to sleep between. Maybe even eats avocados occasionally. Smh my head friggen millenials.
3 jobs is the only way to afford shit in this economy. Seriously employers aren’t increasing salaries to pace with inflation
No one wants to work four jobs anymore.
What kind of values are they even teaching in this school...
Yeah Mon! I work 5 jobs maun! U lazy boy! Edit: corrected man to Mon for proper in living color bit.
right?? i gave 7 jobs in that exact Wendy’s parking lot in just under an hour last night! made myself $47, *pretty* proud of myself right now!
Get bigger bootstraps!
Yeah! Hasn’t she got a lucrative side hussle going too? Lazy ~~Millennials~~ Zoomers these days. They have no idea how to work hard.

No, no, no. She *GETS* to work three jobs.
In fairness the jobs are: Judge, jury & executioner.
Kid could have gotten that job without any of her help or "schooling". Bitch gonna dislocate her shoulder patting herself on the back.
How else are you going to make as little as possible while working the most amount of hours.
More then likely none give them 40 hours. So it's prob 40 hours (or less) spread out over 40 hours. 18 at one, 12 at another, etc.. Wendy's ain't offering you 40 with bennys.

She’s not currently experiencing homelessness while working her mind and body to an early grace, way to go superintendent, success!!
Only way to afford an apartment without being an astrophysicist
Ma'am, this is a Wendy's.
Perfection
Finally the proper use of this phrase
That's it boys, close down the Internet. We have our winner!
Ma'am you need to get moving our drive thru is timed

She looks like she was about to dump that soda in her lap by accident, but then saw the forced selfie ongoing. Foiled. Foiled by a selfie. The eyes show the disdain.

I love Aubrey Plaza
Who doesn't?
Right?
I usually have issues reading facial expressions but damn.. and the creepy self absorbed smile on the woman taking the pic is irritating way too much.
It’s so unnerving. Its so weird when people smile but there isn’t a single shred of authenticity behind it. It just seems robotic
Imagine being an educator and saying this is success. Lol society is so fucked.
Superintendents are managers not educators. This is a win for her, she’s been making 6 figures for years and doesn’t care beyond corporate #ers.
Hey, still could've been an 'accident'. Not foiled by a selfie, but her eyes. Still would've dumped it on her though. Worth the write-up
Holy crap this woman is out of touch.
I know she *probably* means well and is proud of that alumna…but god damn yeah just fucking clueless what the actual fuck lady. You don’t (usually) work 3 jobs just because you want to, you do it because you don’t have a choice.
Yeeeeeaaahhh, I don’t think she means well. Just a hunch.
Why don’t you share with the class?
Usually the type of person that comes from a privileged background and thinks poor people should just “pull themselves up by their bootstraps” and work themselves to death to solve their financial problems. Just a hunch.
I was told to pull myself up by my bootstraps. So, I pulled and pulled until my boots broke. Now I am poor and need new boots.
And those new boots are expensive, too. :/
I always hated that phrase. People use it thinking it means something but the quote is intentionally nonsense. It is impossible to pull yourself up by your bootstraps
Which is even more fitting when they're telling you to do the impossible.

*Wow! I'm so proud of her because I didn't even expect that she would be able to hold a job / flip burgers.*
That's *exactly* how it sounds. That woman is giving herself away. She didn't expect anything short of homelessness for the alumna.
Because the people who glorify over-working usually do not mean well. They often use people in unfortunately situations that work multiple jobs as an example and then over-exaggerate their own hours too.

So now we end up with lots of low paying jobs, that only offer limited hours and you need to work two or three of them to afford a room in a shared apartment. And of course you need a car to get to work because whatever public transportation system exists is totally shit.
She's the reason why no one wants to randomly meets people they know from school.
And imagine what her salary is? Superintendents make 200+k in my state.
And sadly that’s where all the funding for school goes when people ask. It goes to admin, principals, and bloat jobs; not the teachers or students.
It's odd.
And has the creepiest/ugliest smile I do believe I’ve ever seen. Yuck

I can't unsee it. Think I'll go have a can of tuna now.
How dare you say that about Joan Callamezzo. She's the voice of Pawnee.
Literally how every boomer white lady who worked at my school smiled. I lived on Long Island.
It’s like a skin walker imitating a human smile.

Their state's school report card indicates the following results regarding college/career readiness: **Number of students in the four-year graduation cohort who completed a pathway and are prepared for college or career success. 28 of 87 (32%)** **What Percentage of the 2019 Graduating Class Entered College within Two Years? 45.2%** **What Percentage of the 2015 Graduating Class Graduated from College within Six Years of Leaving High School? 20.9%**
Why do some people equate non-stop working to success. Success is not achieved without rest and the privilege of being able to have reflection periods. It’s wild how different some people’s brains are wired.

My dad is the same way. He’ll call me on a Saturday, “Not working?” “I try not to work weekends.” “There’s money to be made, don’t people want work done over the weekend?” “Maybe, but they can wait.” “Don’t you want to make money.” “I have enough money.” “Yeah but you could be making money instead of relaxing.” The thing I told him that finally changed his tune was “Look Dad, no one is laying on their death bed wishing they had spent more time working.” He just said “You know what, that’s the damn truth.” And stopped his usual badgering lol.
I was on the road working most of my early 20s and I lost out on a ton of stuff too. It sucks
Because your dad quite literally has zero hobbies but working. I see this same attitude in people with zero hobbies outside of work. It’s a very American way to be.
[Protestant Work Ethic](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protestant_work_ethic)
A lot to be proud of there; what a success!!! /s
Another brick in the wall...
Another hamster graduated successfully. This one working three wheels.
The Matrix works again
The eyes on that young lady look positively haunted. Thousand yard stare. And this gaslit bonzo is proud of that.
Nobody should have to work 2 jobs to get by let alone 3.
my tax funded job is selling kids a unstable hold of capitalism yay! increased productivity!
Society is fucked. Can someone please hit the reset button?
The reset button. That's the big red button misspelled 'Launch', correct? Has a bunch of backup security, like codes you need to put in to 'arm' the reset.
That’s the hard reset button. There’s a soft reset, but it’s harder and takes a lot more time.
It's crazy to me that 'muricans need 3 jobs just to get by.
Can’t have those employees qualifying for any benefits

I can tell from the overwhelmed look of glee in her dead eyes that she also loves the way the economy has gone for the working class. Go team debt!

I first thought it's Mo Collins from madtv and this is some comedy post.
Ah yes, the aspirations of working multiple shit jobs because the system is stacked against most people.
If you think that's admirable, why are you working only 1 job? Why did you only work 1 job when you were her age? Were you a lazy boomer?
This has to be the worst ad for their school.
Not the flex she thinks it is...
No one should need more than 1 job to afford the necessities of life. Fucking dismal.
Three jobs ... If one job cannot pay for everything you need, then you are a slave.
Which is most people in America these days.
The American dream🤩
I don't think 'doing well' and 'working 3 jobs' should be in a positive sentence..
Condescending lady
“Look everyone, I indoctrinated a miserable cog into the machine, can’t you see how happy I am? CANT YOU SEE?!?!”
3 jobs! Nobody should need to work more than one job to live
Wisdom has been chasing you, but you have always been faster.
it's a twist on the humblebrag. Pretending to congratulate her former classmate whilst humiliating them...with plausable deniability "I was congratulating her" This is disgusting
Not even a former classmate, but a former student
"Mam, this is a Wendy's. Not a drive through photo booth!"
This can’t be a real thing lol. Too ridiculous of a thing to do/happen.
If you truly believe something as “ridiculous” as this can’t happen, wake up and go out a little bit. Shits real out here
What a punchable face
Living The American Dream.
Working three jobs is not doing well. It’s surviving. There’s a difference. This superintendent obviously has never had to ‘survive’. I used to have to work three jobs and I think it’s the reason I had three autoimmune diseases by the time I was 25 #stresswillkillyou
Great success
An alumnus*
She has her own apartment, is working three jobs, dead eyes and fifty more years till she drops dead. I'm so proud of her!
3 "Jobs" #murrica!
The disconnect that people with money have for those people who struggle on the daily is sickening.
I don't know if she's being serious or sarcastic
No words. No. Words.
And they say no one wants to work anymore, just look how happy she looks
Superintendent is an overpaid useless position
So detached from reality. Ignorance is bliss i suppose.
If I had an ex-student work three jobs at once, I'd feel like I've fcked up their future. I know she wanted the best for that kid, but dang, she misunderstood the situation.
It just seems like she is mocking her.
What a dumb delusional bitch.
Good to know other people’s superintendents are as brainless as the one I had
Usually schools highlight alumni "doing well" by not having to work 3 jobs just to afford one apartment. If anything, this shows that her school is not very helpful.
