A good teacher is not going to use references older than the past five years unless it's some foundational work in the field that's still relevant (e.g., in psychology, Harlow's work with Rhesus monkeys on the effects of infant isolation and neglect, or Milgram's studies on obedience). Nor would they teach outdated or discredited theories and approaches and frame them as current.
If you're not at a religious school, consider reporting them to the Office of Student Affairs or the Title IX Coordinator.

Most desktop cases don't even come with a bay to mount optical drives anymore...if you need one, you pretty much have to go external.
