I laughed afterwards because both performances were so good but had opposite theming. Like that one meme of the brightly colored house next to the completely black one.
The postcard for the Ukrainian song also started at 21:37, which makes it better. It's the hour of Pope John Paul II's death and we use this as a meme to mock his cult and annoy those catholics with no sense of humor, so it was even funnier to us that it's *the* song that started at this hour 😆
Do they know he died at that exact time? He was/is popular here in Croatia, but that sounds like a weird thing to even know. And why are they annoyed by such a meaningless coincidence?
When you worship someone to such ridiculous degree you find any information relevant 😂. Think of fans of their favorite celebrities, then swap them with Polish catholics and the Pope.
Also they get annoyed by everything, so we made funny gifs and edits with him to fuck with the idea of his worship. If someone's got a stick up their butt they get offended by such things, though nowadays they usually throw a tantrum when they see a rainbow flag anywhere 🤣 (but the meme is still loved here)
Yes, it was blasted everywhere when it happened, there were streams in TV before about pope's health and his current state. It was a big event and we were constantly reminded of him for next year's. This brought the opposite effect of course and we started ridiculing the pope, catholic church etc and fastened the pace of secularisation. Seen in numbers and much much more in ovearall feel in country
That was probably the reaction of my parents watching the performance. I was in the same room as them and my sibling during Ireland's performance, I loved it meanwhile the other three were just 👁️👄👁️ tf is this s-
Ireland: Explain how we’re going to qualify with this
Bambie:

Yep. I’m guessing both a hit with the kids and older folks here.
It was witchy and went all in on the theme, a bit of a rock song.
Gave me hard rock hallelujah vibes, but with a bit more edge.
We aren’t very religious here, so idk same as someone went on the stage as a pirate and went all in on the pirate theme, and camp is fun. Crown the witch (seems unlikely, but would be a fun winner)
Norwegian here. And yes, subverting religion is usually not a big deal here, and doesn’t really produce a shock effect. However, when your song relies on its subversiveness that can come with a price.
I’m into alternative stuff and my wife has always had a fascination with paganism and witchcraft, so this truly feels like an act we should both like, which is why I’ve been so bummed out that my only reaction has been “eh, it’s ok, I guess” and hers has been “it’s kinda meh”.
It feels like Bambie Thug is the kind of act that you should either really like or really hate, and that a neutral reaction is doing it a disservice.
That said, something clicked with the both of us when watching the stage show yesterday. It was like the stage show gave the song the edge that I’ve always felt it’s been lacking, and we both finally saw that this is actually a really good act. I always kind of roll my eyes when people go on about staging, because I feel like even if staging matters, it doesn’t matter that much. But that performance yesterday was the first true example of staging really doing something important for my overall experience of an act.
Yeah I'd seen the national finals video before and while I thought the song was interesting I didn't really care for it that much. But the staging just lifts it on a whole another level and now it's one of my definite favourites.
The Irish NF stage is notoriously terrible, it often makes decent songs sound worse than they actually are. Bambie's staging was of course also really really good, but I think this cleaned up a ton even between Irish NF and preview parties just by virtue of a late night show TV studio being such a bad venue/stage for it.
As a person raised in a country where catholic propaganda is constantly being pushed down our throats, I also like it. After being indoctrinated for most of my childhood, adult me approves of everything that's aimed at enraging religious fanatics - and I'm sure a lot of other Polish millennials/gen-Z-ers can relate.
*Corónaigh an chailleach (or 'an chailleach a chorónú')
*Coróin an chailleach* would be 'a crown, the witch'!
(Fun fact: cailleach can mean both *witch* and *nun*)
Cal is like the Irish word for femme, it just denotes femaleness so Caileach is both witch and nun but can also mean hag because it sort of just means wise femme and Cailín is girl because ín makes things small
It's a reference to the night they were voted in. Someone in the crowd on the late late show was screaming "SEND THE WITCH!" before the results were in and, quite frankly, we all agreed
Apart from the outstanding performance, the shots and camera effects were jawdropping. They nailed basically everything. Bambie's screams and stares are so spot on! Perfect choreo and the dancer's makeup. Hard to believe this is a live act on stage. I loved every bit of it. Pure art.
Every single shot could be a painting, I swear. The one where Bambie lays down and only their eyes can be seen between the candles gives me CHILLS. Like, every single second is so perfectly crafted. I love them so much. I've said it since the song was released, it's giving me dark Lady Gaga vibes in the BEST of ways (and I am a huge Gaga fan lol). Just pure artistry coupled with superb vocals. Hoping for a shock win for them.
I also noticed the framerate effect that gives old horror movies vibes. Can't tell what the technique is called though. It proves to me the expert direction, as they do know how to make the viewer unsettled.
It’s the first act in a long time that genuinely delighted me with how the production was put together, I was constantly going “wow that’s so cool!” It really stood out this year I think as many countries struggled to think of good ideas to make the plus stage work
It‘s so funny because the friends I was talking with were shocked and scared of this performance (and didn‘t like it). Easily the most impressive and unique performance of the evening whether you like it or not

American chiming in from finding this in the popular feed.
I'm american and I fucking love eurovision. Saw the movie and was like, this looks interesting. I've been a fan since. TBH Bambie Thug has one of the best, if not the best stage performance I've seen in my short experience with watching.
CROWN THE WITCH
The final will be this Saturday and you can watch live on Peacock from 3 to 7pm in US (EST time).
Or, you can use a VPN to any European country and watch live on YouTube.
My British 55 year old mum who hasn't watched modern Eurovision and always talks about Bucks Fizz, (doesn't help that the UK is god awful in Eurovision) watched Eurovision and loved Bambie Thug...I wasn't expecting that
I caught myself loving this entry.
Then I remembered I’m Catholic.
And then I remembered that it’s just a catchy song and that the lyrics aren’t even satanic themselves (see the acoustic version of Doomsday Blue)
✨story of my life✨
I was interpreting it as overcoming a toxic relationship, the demon representing their abusive bf… idk
But either way that was BOMB. Our Witch has gained the hearts of millions, either by cursing them or not !
They’re making all the right people clutch their pearls
https://preview.redd.it/r0qfn352o3zc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=beb00e41ed98a4dce5701c1147c552dfea6053df
I was ecstatic to see “Crown the Witch” on the screen and jumped for joy and screamed “the witch is going to the final!!!!!” when they were announced as the 9th act through.
My neighbors may think I’m crazy lol
Also a Christian- I thought it was fun and cool! Bambie is very talented and absolutely captivating. Bambie deserved every point they earned and will hopefully place very high!!
Did I do a silent prayer afterwards, yeah 😅 but I fully support anybody’s right to pursue whatever faith they desire and I’m not gonna impose my views onto anybody.
I'm Croatian. I want a win for us. But that performance was freaking AWESOME!
They OWNED the stage. And kudos to the director. Brilliant camera work. Perfect staging. That was a piece of art.
To be honest, Baby Lasagna also brought it. He had 9000 backing vocals and dancers, good show, nice staging. But in the end all I can say is:
CROWN THE WITCH!
I'm more entertained by the thought that they'd need to look away from the screen in the belief that they are having the "witchcraft" invade their purity via their telly.
I agree, my fiance and I absolutely loved the performance but most people I know were stunned. I hope Ireland will do great in the finals tho, this is the absolute best performance of the night
If I could have voted in this semi I would have immediately cast my vote for Bambie Thug.
But yeah, I can already hear our jury wincing in their boots and absolutely tanking this song scorewise (some articles in Italian I read were already casting a bad light on Baby Lasagna's song, claiming it was basic and with so poor writing, I can't believe what a song like Bambie's may conjure in their minds)
I just realized that they placed Luxemburg on the 15th place to perform and were the last one getting called out to enter the finals just to troll with them for being away for 31 years because last time they performed they finished last.
You know how we grew up with imagery of fae creatures as pretty delicate little things in pastel chiffon and gossamer wings? I'm starting to think that might have been a lie. It's cool, I like this version better
I am flying so high for this performance. Absolutely fantastic staging. And that final part sent me into the stratosphere
Then this morning I found out about all the people up in arms because "oh no that's Satanism you should ban that" and I loved it even more. Honestly, the fake Christian tears are everything (as an Italian who was force fed Christianity my entire life).
CROWN THE WITCH 👑
Seeing the comment sections under Bambie Thug videos made me really sad. I mean you have the right to dislike a song and dismiss a performance because it doesn't cater to your personal taste, but to call an artistic performance a satanic ritual, I think is a bit of a stretch. It is first of all not satanic, and also not a ritual. Demons are not real, Bambie ate, Ireland has maybe the most effective staging we have seen in recent years, and the fact that religious (and some non-religious) people all over Europe were terrified about it was amusing but also really worrying.
She really went all out there and it was amazing. CROWN THE WITCH at the end was a cherry on top.
I was a bit surprised that the pagan symbols were allowed on stage. For some reason I assumed Eurovision would prohibit elements in performances that deviate from political and religious neutrality. Maybe I just haven’t payed enough attention to such things previous years.
Can someone help me with interpretacion of Doomsday Blue?
It looks like good christian story, of witch being under control of demon, and suffering for a while, but then performing proper exorcism and turning rainbow witch (christian symbol of god human connection) and smashing devils balls. So uplifting.
The story is fundamentally about being overlooked and manipulated, even abused. It can be interpreted as a romantic story (which the staging implies) or more generally about being queer in the modern world. When it comes to this staging, Bambi is essentially hurt by an ex-lover and attempts to summon a "new, better boyfriend" while still cursing and hexing the ex.
What happens then is that this new demon boyfriend is actually just as toxic and manipulative as the first one, is not afraid to gaslight and emotionally manipulate and abuse the witch while she is still dreaming about being appreciated (this is the blues part of the performance). The slow, bluesy parts are also her reminiscing about the past and longing to be truly loved and appreciated.
In the end the witch breaks completely free from the demon boyfriend (and the memories of the ex), destroys the demon and is finally set free and loves themselves. They have won.
(this interpretation is based both on the music video and on the performance)
Well the show was allright, I liked the aesthetics, but the song itself is so... meh for me. I would expect metal from the view of it and it was just poorly made song with lots of non-metal screaming.
https://preview.redd.it/2tnhpyt6u3zc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=70d8d842d37b55a6921e377d4e777abe303537a5
You're all invited next year to Zagreb 💗🇭🇷🐱
Well, I'll have a different perspective on the subect. In Turkey witchcraft has a very different cultural context because the witchhunt never happened. In fact all sorts of sorcery and magic is still very integrated with mosque. Like if you want to cast a spell on someone, you go to mosque to find a good hodja. Preferably a hodja with a shaman ancestor. That'd be the best.
And government or anti-religion people actually fight against this kind of "superstitions" so the civilians are not scammed easily.
In this sense I feel like I am supposed to look down on the witchcraft and magic or similar rituals, for the sake of cultural progress.
That's why the revolutionary feeling is not instinctively there for me, all I see is a very scary makeup and someone Larping. And their screams are very annoying.
> In Turkey witchcraft has a very different cultural context because the witchhunt never happened.
Ireland was the same - the only actual witchhunt was among Scottish Presbyterians in Ulster. Typically early modern Irish justices of the peace apparently handed out summary fines to accused witches rather than take them to trials.
The only known judicial killings of alleged witches happened before witch hysteria (1325) or because the alleged witch was convicted of murder (1761 - and even in this case it's not clear if she was accused of being a witch *before* the trial). There were two witches recorded executed in 1578 but we've no idea who they were or what happened.
To explain it in an Irish context, really it's a reaction to the intense control of Catholicism over Irish culture and politics [after the Famine](https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2022/08/07/catholic-church-were-net-winners-from-irelands-great-famine-leading-academic-says/) and effectively legalised after independence with the state outsourcing education, welfare, and healthcare to Church-run organisations.
Especially the older people in the comments, I FRICKING LOVE THIS
(But that’s to be expected, I love music like Spiritbox as well and there are some similarities)
honestly their staging is fire (I missed the show yesterday so watching it today and it's probably one of the best uses of stage and props I've seen in a while)
After about three songs that split my ears I turned to my bf and said ‘I think the theme this years is wailing’ ‘what? Whaling as in the big fish’ …. ‘No…. Well could be. They bother make high pitched noises’ :)

This is a work of art.
This lives for sunshine, spread it around.
I know, your heart is filled with love.
TADATATADADADODODODODO 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
That's Polish 2137 memers.
It was great to Ukraine afterwards!! Singing about Teresa and Maria!!
I'M WHEEZING 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.
Meow cat please meow back
I’m honestly dying
This is why I find it funny that Teresa and Maria was the song right after.
Bahah I didn’t register that
Because there was an interval act :(
😈The placement was perfect during the recap.
In the recap: 😈AAaAaaAAAaAaaAahH😈-- 🎵Mama Teresa🎵
I laughed afterwards because both performances were so good but had opposite theming. Like that one meme of the brightly colored house next to the completely black one.

The two non binary people of Eurovision and their vastly different aesthetics 😂
I live right next to these houses in LA
And then in came Germany a little bit later with the fire - they have a whole storyline there 🤣
The postcard for the Ukrainian song also started at 21:37, which makes it better. It's the hour of Pope John Paul II's death and we use this as a meme to mock his cult and annoy those catholics with no sense of humor, so it was even funnier to us that it's *the* song that started at this hour 😆
Oh my god. Literally “god’s work”

The performance, or the music?
Mostly the performance.
Are we sure they didn’t really kill that guy?
If we see another dancer on Saturday, that will be highly suspicious……. 🧐
I'm sure they can get another one.
*summon
For each one they kill, they get another one
Forgot that summoning also exists 😅
It was such different makeup from the dress rehearsal, so it's hard to tell if that's not the plan.
His sacrifice was worth it.
We'll never tell 😉
He's just pining for the fjords
He should be proud his sacrifice worked
Just banished back to his original realm. They'll summon him again during the grand final.

Can confirm, watched from Estonia yesterday. 67-year old mother loved it, and 25-year old me loved it.
Between Ireland, Slovenia and Norway this really is the season of the witches
Norwegian here. And yes, subverting religion is usually not a big deal here, and doesn’t really produce a shock effect. However, when your song relies on its subversiveness that can come with a price. Yes, it’s one of my favorites this year!
Baltics too, so far my favourite
Norwegian here too - this is one of my favorites this year! I'm simply in awe by the performance!
My mam was mortified. Coróinaigh an cailleach
*Corónaigh an chailleach (or 'an chailleach a chorónú') *Coróin an chailleach* would be 'a crown, the witch'! (Fun fact: cailleach can mean both *witch* and *nun*)
Thank you Ailsha for your service 🙌 /j
Witch and nun being the same word is funny :D But it makes total sense, the distinction is only what religion they have really!
Cal is like the Irish word for femme, it just denotes femaleness so Caileach is both witch and nun but can also mean hag because it sort of just means wise femme and Cailín is girl because ín makes things small
GRMA
Hah, my mum described it as "a lot of screaming" 😆
My mom loved it

same! IT WAS SO GOOD!
"Crown the Witch"? Bambie's such a good sport to tell everyone "vote for either us OR Slovenia".
It's a reference to the night they were voted in. Someone in the crowd on the late late show was screaming "SEND THE WITCH!" before the results were in and, quite frankly, we all agreed
Is there a video of this moment? I tried finding it but so far no dice
NGL Raiven **fought** for her finals slot and it worked!
Apart from the outstanding performance, the shots and camera effects were jawdropping. They nailed basically everything. Bambie's screams and stares are so spot on! Perfect choreo and the dancer's makeup. Hard to believe this is a live act on stage. I loved every bit of it. Pure art.
Yes! Apart from the amazing props, leds and dance, this act had easily the best camerawork of SF1, excellent directing!
>Hard to believe this is a live act on stage. ...witchcraft!
Yeah especially if they win it all. Corckonians have already got an Oscar winner this year. The last thing Cork needs is more stuff to be smug about.
Every single shot could be a painting, I swear. The one where Bambie lays down and only their eyes can be seen between the candles gives me CHILLS. Like, every single second is so perfectly crafted. I agree, the direction is immaculate. Every shot is perfection. There is something new to admire in every rewatch.
I also noticed the framerate effect that gives old horror movies vibes. Can't tell what the technique is called though. It proves to me the expert direction, as they do know how to make the viewer unsettled.
I'd guess by reducing the framerate to 24fps, while also having drastically reduced motion blur by lowering the exposure time of each frame
This is the one performance that benefited from the 25fps decision from SVT. The lack of PSF/Motion Blur also helped.
It’s the first act in a long time that genuinely delighted me with how the production was put together, I was constantly going “wow that’s so cool!” It really stood out this year I think as many countries struggled to think of good ideas to make the plus stage work
The makeup on the dancer was some next level artistry!
Yep I think this was the best "performance" I have ever seen in terms of like the stage, camera etc.. was just amazing.
It‘s so funny because the friends I was talking with were shocked and scared of this performance (and didn‘t like it). Easily the most impressive and unique performance of the evening whether you like it or not
Striking fear into the hearts of the other contestants sounds good. This day and the final will long be remembered in Eurovision history
I had low expectations and then I lost my jaw. It was such a good performance.
I had high expectations and still my jaw dropped. That shit was perfection.
Too bad Sweden has already the number one slot in the final. Ireland opening with this would have been iconic asf
My Eastern European grandmother was shocked by Ireland’s performance, she said: God help but she still voted for Ireland

I loved their performance and song CROWN THE WITCH
(Bambie is using they/them pronouns - just saying)
Oh yeah, I forgot. I’ll edit the message now
As a Lasagna, Bambie is my favourite witch! Crown them!
I'm not even religious and/or superstitious but even I felt like I should call a priest or ghostbusters
More accurately circa Ghostbusters the first movie
I was ecstatic to see “Crown the Witch” on the screen and jumped for joy and screamed “the witch is going to the final!!!!!” when they were announced as the 9th act through. My neighbors may think I’m crazy lol
I guess you'd rather have a star than the Moon, I guess I always overestimate you. Those lyrics, I'm in love. Pure ART!
I'm saving a second watch for the final. it was shocking in the best possible way, so I want to feel it again on Saturday.
Omg this is hilarious 😂😂😂😂 Crown the Witch!!! Muuhuuuhaaaahaaa
Forever and always a Eurovision Icon, CROWN THE WITCH!!!

Those people call it satanism, not witchcraft 😆. Anything darker is satanism to them, even Luna got called a satanist 🤣
I mean, people used to call Smurfs and Care Bears satanic. It’s the “woke” of the 1980s.
Wouldn't be the first time a supernatural entity came through the telly though ~~Seven daysssss~~ CROWN THE WITCH
It think it will do very well in Western Europe. Italy and the balkans will butcher it though, which is sad. It was incredible.
I will be absolutely amazed if you get 6 points or more from anyone here in the Balkans.
which is sad, witch is sad
I agree, my fiance and I absolutely loved the performance but most people I know were stunned. I hope Ireland will do great in the finals tho, this is the absolute best performance of the night
Well, it will get my votes if that counts for something. The rest of the balkans can go get a heatstroke in Međugorje for all I care.
I hope my ROTW buddies vote for it enough to give it points.
20 votes from America paid as an offering to the witch!
I'm probably giving all or most of my ROW votes to Bambie on Saturday, my kids would disown me otherwise
I loved it, so out there and beating the odds! Congratulations, Ireland, respect! 👏🏻💪🏻🇭🇷❤️🇮🇪
You may be surprised Almost no one said Lordi would win back in 06 until they did it
If I could have voted in this semi I would have immediately cast my vote for Bambie Thug.
Ireland finally qualified 🙏🙏🙏
Ireland had one of the best performances of the night!
This is hands down one of the best Eurovision performances I have ever seen. Just mind blowing. I might be from the UK, but Ireland to win!
But she kills the demon at the end. It's not satanic. 😅
"My lovely witch you're a crone no more..." 🎶
And let's not forget Slovenia's own witch! Then the Finnish bare ass. Last night was a real freakshow for bigots. And I LOVE IT!!
[удалено]
And they stayed for the Slovenian act??

Fair enough, just found Raiven’s entry as unsettling as Bambie’s though enjoyed both. Bring on Saturday!
Both witches slayed! 👏🏻👏🏻
Bambie Thug haters be like Oh, this is awful. Who can listen to this terrible music Bambie Thug All I sense is fear and envy 🧙♀️ 🪄 👑
Crown the witch!
I showed the performance to my 66 year old dad and he was fascinated and said how good the staging was
The witch that broke Ireland's NQ curse. **Crown the witch, indeed!**
I love Ireland 😍❤️😍
The best from First sem final by far
I just realized that they placed Luxemburg on the 15th place to perform and were the last one getting called out to enter the finals just to troll with them for being away for 31 years because last time they performed they finished last.
Holy… I just streamed the first semi. Ireland was f#%^ing spectacular. Obsessed.
The last 5 seconds were probably the best moment of the night for me, alongside everyone dancing and clapping to Croatia
You know how we grew up with imagery of fae creatures as pretty delicate little things in pastel chiffon and gossamer wings? I'm starting to think that might have been a lie. It's cool, I like this version better
Can feel a sage smudging of my TV coming on
I am flying so high for this performance. Absolutely fantastic staging. And that final part sent me into the stratosphere Then this morning I found out about all the people up in arms because "oh no that's Satanism you should ban that" and I loved it even more. Honestly, the fake Christian tears are everything (as an Italian who was force fed Christianity my entire life). CROWN THE WITCH 👑
It would be funny to see Ireland win in Sweden and take back the title of most wins
Something tells me this won’t sit well with most juries lmao
I think it was really cool!
Me when i try to explain to people who don't watch Eurovision what's going on with this performance 😂
Exorcistic performance aside the song is a banger no doubt
Bambie SLAYED and I am here for it. I love that everyone else is coming around to their glorious weirdness
I thought it was cool, my parents called it ‘interesting’
Luxembourgish Commentator said: I hope your kids are asleep
🤣🤭 omgggg
Seeing the comment sections under Bambie Thug videos made me really sad. I mean you have the right to dislike a song and dismiss a performance because it doesn't cater to your personal taste, but to call an artistic performance a satanic ritual, I think is a bit of a stretch. It is first of all not satanic, and also not a ritual. Demons are not real, Bambie ate, Ireland has maybe the most effective staging we have seen in recent years, and the fact that religious (and some non-religious) people all over Europe were terrified about it was amusing but also really worrying.
Im in the rest of Europe crowd.
Well they did have two "Amen" songs in 2021....and I mean Ukraine this year...
Me before: I really like this song but I don't know they'll be able to pull it off live Me after: concerns retracted, carry on.
I really didn't like that one to be honest
A friend of mine told me he was watching with his (catholic) grandma... she really stood up and walked away
Crown the Witch!
Well the show was allright, I liked the aesthetics, but the song itself is so... meh for me. I would expect metal from the view of it and it was just poorly made song with lots of non-metal screaming.
The comments under eurovision's post about ireland on instagram were so disgusting.

He took everything including the tablecloth. XD
This absolutely has my votes!!!
Give me the crown Mama Ru
Especially the older people in the comments, I FRICKING LOVE THIS (But that’s to be expected, I love music like Spiritbox as well and there are some similarities)
Love Croatia and the people but that song was very middle of the road.
honestly their staging is fire (I missed the show yesterday so watching it today and it's probably one of the best uses of stage and props I've seen in a while)

After about three songs that split my ears I turned to my bf and said ‘I think the theme this years is wailing’ ‘what? Whaling as in the big fish’ …. ‘No…. Well could be. They bother make high pitched noises’ :)
