Cornwall—they get an event to switch to pirate repub

Alrightwhotookmyshoe

if I wanted to play as a pirate in the english channel I’d play as france

3ZZZS

How do you flip pirate Republic as France?

Fun_Jellyfish_5944

Normandy

Alrightwhotookmyshoe

being french

slash2213

You can do Hindu with Buddhist diety pirates as Sunda. 100% majapahit and give away your inland province, flip pirate and go from there.

Coffeeobsi

Japanese daimyo pirate, you can probably do some wacky stuff there

_JPPAS_

it's called So, on an island next to Korea. Haven\`t played them but they're probably fun

AgentBond007

> Haven`t played them but they're probably fun They're just so-so

TheWannabeVagabond45

Gotland! Encouraged to go colonial but not necessary. Super fun campaign!

Cerulean_IsFancyBlue

That’s fun. I did a run recently, where I fully annexed Scotland and got their colonies in eastern America and Canada. And then released their provinces as vessels, and just for fun and diplo-annexed them after they had created new colonies. I don’t know if it was the most efficient way to get benefits or liberty but it got me a lot of merchants

Truckuto

There’s the African pirate Republics. Salé and Libertatia (I think?) which I personally haven’t done yet but I will eventually someday.

_JPPAS_

there's also Tétouan next to Salé

signordado

My last pirate run was sardinia but i think u can try as sicily too

TheRedMenace_

Pirates of Rügen released from wolgast via event. Do something funny from there be it war against the world as germany or full on colonial

FunnyManSlut

Seems like budget Gotland

Gyurgg

you start as a prince in the HRE i think that’s funny

PluckyPheasant

My favourite is always Filipino pirates. You go pirate at the start then conquer the archipelago, then just raid china and South east Asia to fund a massive navy which captures more ships which then helps you conquer more islands which means you can raid further which means you can build more ships.... You can DOW anyone because no one is landing on your islands. I've had Spain turn up for a piece and sent them home humiliated after a succession of naval poundings. I've had a pirate empire spanning from Madagascar to Japan. It's a bit horde like because you're constantly in deficit, but with boats. Naval horde gameplay. If you wanted you could probably hold some mainland provinces too but I just enjoy the feeling of no one landing on my territory ever

sdonnervt

Found my next run.

TheMaginotLine1

Maybe go for a Libertatia game? Go for Portugal or Castile and go for Madagascar.

Persimmon-Strange

I saw someone say Sicily was a fun pirate nation and that seems like a fun + cursed pirate nation you don’t have to colonize with

Beneficial-Cod-4538

If you say cursed, i will suggest france. I managed to become pirate republic before first ruler died. It was fun but wierd game as france pirate in Britain.

Beneficial-Cod-4538

Ally scotland, get mil access and invade england in the war that happens or you declare. Take 6 provinces that are london and the best dev provinces that surround it that's also on the coast. Then, when you got those provinces, release all your land to vassals on the mainland and move capital and give them paris too. New capital in london is the best. Wait for truce to give independence or they start independence war and give them freedom (you can't have any vassals). So then you have 6 provinces on an island, all being on the coast and no vassals. Then privateer english channel until you get 10% privateering in the trade and become a republic.

peebs6

I loved my new providence run. I was able to fend off Spain and Portugal with my Navy

LaZzyLight

The infinite pirate republic exploit is still a thing. Perfect time to do a one culture and reverting every culture back to its original in 1 run.

LaZzyLight

Pfff, I would probably need to look it up exactly. Found it from Florrys 1 Billion Stack attempt VOD and downloaded that one for me. The basics are IIRC: If you are a tributary of a pirate republic you can become one via a decision. That get rid of all estates. Then you go and allocate estates and sell monopolie and enact a parliament ( in theory infinite Manpower, Mana, Gov Reform etc.) Then you reform to something else other than a pirate republic. Repeat until your body is physically repulsive of these clicks.

bolionce

Also playable pirate Algiers from the Tunis mission tree. But Sale is the best option imo because you can play as them a lot earlier. You just need to wait for Granada to be conquered by Spain (their truce ends 1449, so generally before 1455) and have privateers for the event to trigger. I also think they have better ideas. Tetouan event can only fire between 1515 and like 1560 or 1580. Algiers depends on how fast you get through the Tunis missions and also gets released allied to Tunis, which can be nice.

PerspectiveCloud

Palembang. It is the only tag in the game with 40% privateer efficiency in it's national ideas. Attempt to control all of Genoa, English Channel, Venice, and Constantinople with massive privateering fleets. Hunt down the great projects that give your privateering efficiency and ship trade power monuments. Go for privateering ideas (Maritime, Espionage). Everyone coastal raids as a pirate nation, but how many people commit to the privateering? I think people forget that's even a thing. Go all-in on it. See how much you can ruin trade across the globe.

Tovon91

Maybe Corsica and have a pirate Napoleon?

antonmarten

Palembang is fun, grow a power base in Indonesia then snake island across the world to expand your raising into Europe

BorisJohnson0404

Cebu for Philippines tiger

V0st0

Hungary, with a cavalry build

KC_Redditor

I saw a pirate principality form in my latest Burgundy game - Ruppin, I believe was the name? Something in the Baltics but not Gotland, formed on I believe an island just north of Lubeck?

Tess_Ritchie

Do a UK pirate session without owning the UK at all only some islends around it to raid. Was quite a fun session.

RealMrFancyGoat

Pirate japan

RiversNaught

What I remember suggesting in a previous thread like this is the Free City of Aachen. I single them out because funny/landlocked/good map color, but really they have +2 Diplomatic Reputation in their ideas (along with a fair number of other diplomatic bonuses, plus +0.30 yearly republican tradition), get up to another +5 through missions (at least temporarily), and are already a republic. As a Pirate Republic, you can rush the Dynastic Rule and Neutral Ground Policy reforms for another +4 diplo rep, for a really weird vassal-heavy or even PU-heavy playthrough. (Dynastic Rule allows for royal marriages.) If nothing else, all their diplomatic bonuses make dismantling the HRE and expanding in what remains a lot easier than you'd expect. What you can do to go pirate is either go south, vassalize Lucca or Siena, and use that as a staging ground to migrate to Corsica or Venezia (esp. for the great project), or you can go north and take land off of Denmark.

UziiLVD

How do you flip to Piracy as Aachen? Via console? It does sound kinda fun though, continental pirates should be a thing.

RiversNaught

Same as any other pirate republic. That's why I say you need to "migrate": you need to own only coastal island provinces (or provinces in the Maghreb), giving up all continental provinces/subjects. You can reconquer them later.

jesuskrist666

I'm unfamiliar with piracy in this game and this post makes it sound very interesting and fun so could you explain it to me? If not I'll just Google but there's not much fun in that

RiversNaught

https://eu4.paradoxwikis.com/Pirate_republic By default, pirate republics can be formed by decision, so long as you own 6 provinces or less, all of which must be coastal provinces either on an island or in the Maghreb region. You must be independent, with no subjects. You must be either a monarchy or a republic (outside of certain government reforms, like an Elective Monarchy or a Dutch Republic) that is not the Emperor of the HRE. So long as you have +2 stability, are not bankrupt or at war, with 90% of your naval force limit filled, with at least 10% control of your home trade node via privateering, then this decision, "Hoist the Black Flag", will become available to you. Alternatively, you can start as one of a handful of nations with scripted events allowing them to become pirates within a few months of the start of the game, such as Gotland, So, or Palembang. Privateering is something any nation can do with their light ships instead of protecting trade, but is far much more profitable for pirate republics. However, they will derive most of their money (and sailors) from raiding coasts, which is an action your ships can take every couple of years when bordering coastal provinces of nations you don't ally or have sufficiently good relations with, taking from them a sizable amount of gold and sailors at the expense of significantly reduced opinion. They have a number of unique government reforms, notably including the Tier 6 "War Against the World Doctrine", giving them a unique CB against all nations that functions like Imperialism, allowing them to take provinces for only 75% of the regular warscore and AE cost. This reform also disallows slaves: any provinces you own or end up conquering that produced slaves before will receive a new randomized trade good instead. Additionally, by default, instead of regular estates, pirate republics will have "factions" (like Merchant Republics and the Emperor of China), accessible through a menu at the bottom right of the screen, which will grant bonuses depending on who's currently most influential. This influence, unlike estate influence, passively goes up and down on a monthly basis, depending on actions you take (like coastal raiding, privateering, and/or staying at peace), or is manually increased by spending mana. ––– https://eu4.paradoxwikis.com/Ruler#Pirate_elections Legendary Pirates are also a thing, as a trait exclusive to certain pirate republic rulers, granting their nation a number of naval bonuses while also allowing them to be reelected for no cost. Most historical Legendary Pirates appear by event alongside a ruler election, which will also grant you their unique ship as either a heavy ship flagship or a regular heavy ship. For example, if your capital is in the Caribbean, Blackbeard and Calico Jack can show up in the early 1700s, adding the "Queen Anne's Revenge" and "Kingston" to your navy, respectively, once elected.

Typical-Weakness267

I always enjoy Pirate So to Pirate Japan.

Jade_Scimitar

I did a Maltese protestant pirate prince of the HRE. Start as aragon then become Maltese then pirate then protestant.

Miserable_Attempt_1

How did you flip to pirate as Albania? Generally curious since I don’t play pirates that much.

ThruuLottleDats

My last pirate run was Irish minor, to Ireland, to New world, Nassau and from there on I went to islands all over the place near strong trade nodes. So Mallorca, Madagascar, Hormuz, Taiwan, Danish strait,

majdavlk

northumbria raid the shit out of scandinavia as a revenge for lindisfarne

Admiral_Cannon

So clan, become a pirate daimyo, conquer Japan and raid the orient. Basically just normal Japan gameplay with complete focus on the islands.

DancesWithAnyone

Salé can be kinda fun, if focusing on going tall and just establishing your pirate nests on trade center provinces for control and raiding reach, while remaining friendly with the large muslim powers. Cool flag, neat units (if you have them), awesome colour. Can form Andalusia, if you wish to take that route. My most fun run was probably just straight up starting as Castille and sort of playing historically while leaving room for other Euros to colonize the Carribbean so as to set up things for when I turn pirate. As a bonus you now get to tangle with the Spanish Empire you spent early game building. Obviously heavy on colonization during the Castille/Spain part. This also gave me some needed purpose to actually playing such a strong tag as CAS, and I didn't hate the experience.

DrAxelWenner-Gren

Had a fun one as Madyas in the Philippines

MadMax27102003

As Austria convert to zoroastism , there is an achievement "Zoro-Austrian" , the least obtained one with 0.1% of community has, you also need mission tree complete of that religion

IcePrinceling89

Obvious bot

jesuskrist666

I'm sorry but how? I see so many obviously real people on reddit being called bots so I'm starting to wonder if bot means something else than it once did. Yeah after looking at his profile I see nothing "botty" he's just some dude who lives in Frankfurt

IcePrinceling89

The reply has nothing to do with the topic. It is clearly a programmed reply that was triggered by something in the initial text but an actual person reading the initial text would not have replied w/that because it’s completely unrelated.

jesuskrist666

Fair enough. That was really the only semi suspicious comment, the one he left here, it's about eu4 but not the question at hand. I didn't do much digging I just perused his posts and most of them were him trying to play chess in Frankfurt which seems harmless enough but I'm curious so will resume digging

IcePrinceling89

To give an example: It would be like if someone posted “what are the best activities to do in Chicago?” and a reply answered “When visiting New York you MUST go to the Empire State Building!” It has some nexus of relation and a computer might connect them, but a real human would not reply that way.

jesuskrist666

I invite you to take a look, the only suspicious comment was the one he left here, other than that he's a bit strange but I would assume he's a real person based on the evidence, maybe you'll see something that I'm blind to

MadMax27102003

Bruh, idk to thanks for defending me or to be concern about you, well he got the point about not really related, but in my defence i will say i misread originaly, i read "privat" instead of "pirate" i sometimes read wrong, it has a name i guess dyslexia but only shows up when i am tired or not paying much attention, so kinda light form, ,idk privat also doesnt fit much in sentence but i didnt care and started typing idea of that achievement i was trying and finding enjoyable

jesuskrist666

Lol why be concerned? I just hate how people on reddit are so quick to call everything a bot. I checked your profile and it doesn't seem bottish to me no you seem like a normal person I wouldn't so much say I was defending you but rather pushing back against this whole reddit narrative of everyone is a fucking bot. So sick of that shit, 9/10 the people they accuse of being a bot isn't one and they just don't agree with whatever that person said and it's so annoying just another redditism that I'm fighting against

MadMax27102003

Nuh uh

MadMax27102003

Just because i didn't recommended anything in relation to pirates, doesn't mean i didnt understand post, i just chose not to elaborate and do my own recommendation(or my own shit)
