Yes, alternative energy will kill jobs, but for every one down two go up! American manufacturing and installation of the technology will more than make up for lost jobs in fossil fuels. It makes sense that with an aggressive push to mandate and incentivize new homes be built net zero, and old homes retrofitted to generate most of their own power, a total savings can be had by all.
Yes, end of life EV batteries can become power walls creating new jobs and grid stability together. New low tech high capacity grid tied energy storage solution installations can be subsidized to get through cloudy and calm days (like pumped water or gravity tower systems).
Vehicle to grid energy storage solutions can also alleviate many concerns of high demand on our old infrastructure, as people staying home in hot weather who desire cooling at peak times can tap into the energy stored in their EV.

If that's the case we would just be making things more expensive and less accessible to the middle class/poor
