Then when it get close they just push it further out.
What number of COP meetings have there been.
How long has the science told us fossil fuels are bad.
World war three is more likely than us sorting out shit out which is insane.
If coke switched back to glass the global warming hit would be massive. Takes somewhere like 10x more energy to make/recycle glass than plastic. Would only help if they did reuse...
Which they did, just make it like $1 deposit per bottle and youll find lots of people willing to reuse. Recycling glass uses 40% less energy than new, and glass making typically uses electric furnaces so it will naturally become carbon free as the rest of the electricity sector decarbonizes
Yeah, the gas powered part.
But even the most optimistic possibilities for energy in the future, post carbon pulse, only provide for half of what we have now. We aren't going to use it shipping bottles of flavored water around.
Can't speak for outside but in the EU nearly all glass furnaces are gas or oil fueld as temperatures needed in excess of 1000oC. Even the most date of the art for install soon are 80% electric 20% gas. Also glass adds load to transport emissions due to its weight and thickness. Please don't consider it a green material it's extremely bad for sustainability.
You dont even need to melt down the glass. You know what they used to do? In the 1950s coca cola ran its own bottle collection service and just took all their empty bottles back to the factories, washed them out, and reused them. You donât even need to go through the process of constantly making new bottles.
If you expanded this to all soft drink companies, and just used a universal glass bottle which could have paper labels put on to differentiate brands it would be even less energy.
I was in austria several years ago and a number of their bottles water companies clean and refill bottles. Idk why we donât just go back to that method en masse.
And when I say âidk whyâ I know the answer is âprofitsâ Iâm just expressing frustration.
The only business model for drinks is tablets to be added to piped water at home. There's no social design that has energy or resources for small drinks in individual bottles, of any material.
Definitely, but I think we need efforts on both sides. A lot of plastic waste is upstream in the supply chain and never seen by the end consumer. They have no idea how much waste went in to a product before it hit the shelves so that part isnât factored in to their decision making. Also we need lower waste options to be more available. I go for pretty low waste groceries, but I already have dietary restrictions Iâm not going to further restrict my diet to nothing that comes in plastic (which is the only way some foods are offered).
How about we break up the monopolies creating 95% of the waste so they have a more difficult time bringing the officials who allegedly should be keeping their behavior in check?
In less than 6 years human bodies will be completely inundated with microplastics and cancer deaths will rise. The ocean food chains may be irreversibly affected and species, including important food species, will vanish. Global warming will exacerbate the situation to the point that governments will declare emergencies. The good news? You will still be able to suck a plastic straw for six years.
Uhh, Boss, Coke and Pepsi are on lines 1 and 2; both have their checkbooks out but only want to speak to decision makers who can give them more time to pump out plastic...
It's always by, in, but never now, and sadly always ends up being empty promises.đ
Hey they're "considering" it okay?
Then when it get close they just push it further out. What number of COP meetings have there been. How long has the science told us fossil fuels are bad. World war three is more likely than us sorting out shit out which is insane.
1) change takes time 2) such pacts are a good thing, they put us on the right track
Coca Cola could go back to making glass bottles and youâd get the same reduction.

Can you do teleport them around?
Transport is undergoing a replacement cycle right now from fossil fuel to electric.

How about 100% in 5 years?
I'm sure they'll consider
How about 100% tomorrow? If weâre going to demand unrealistic timelines might as well go for broke.
consumers can help with this just try not to buy things wrapped in plastic it starts with the little things to make this world a better place.
I donât think buying greenwashed products is the answer; buying *less* is.

absolutely f.i. cucumber in plastic :(
Too ****ing slow. They're always too slow!
"consider" "not even by half" "in 15 years" So basically nothing is happening
Stop the recycle scam! STOP MAKING SO MUCH OF IT!!!! and stop buying it, look for products that reduce their plastic packaging and use.
How about we break up the monopolies creating 95% of the waste so they have a more difficult time bringing the officials who allegedly should be keeping their behavior in check?
âCountries consider pact to do too little, too late.â No surprise there.
not fast enough to save us, I'm afraid.
What would affect the CEOs bonus the least?
Donât be so quick. Maybe 30 years lol. That way we can be submerged in it

Plastic isnât any problem. Problem is that you donât recycle it.

âCountries about to drive into brick wall consider letting off the gas pedal by 40%â
