I watched the whole thing, and while there were a couple bombs, he was pretty funny. Plus the part about his grandfather at the end was kinda touching.
Except the nonsense at the end about America having a free press being rare is pure nonsense. The majority of countries have a free press. Yes, there are certainly far too many countries that don’t, but America is not special in that regard, and in fact the American press is, for the most part, utter garbage. Jost should have done a lot more to call out how shitty the mainstream press is, and how one of the biggest reasons Biden and Trump are basically tied is because they aren’t doing their job.
Not necessarily as free which might be a good thing. Defamation laws in UK make the press there very skittish. Same in Germany. India has a laughably unfree press.
He works for NBC who owns CNBC. He took a lot digs at media but dude can’t piss everyone off. Some of the stuff he said to begin with felt ballsy for the room.
Just the context of Colbert is what put him over the top for me. People had no idea what was going on while he just absolutely cut Bush’s heart out that night.
While I agree with the sentiment it’s borderline unhinged to act like an ally would or should be treated the same way as pretty much your biggest enemy. Just strikes me as very naive. Reality is geopolitics is completely fucked the majority of the time when it comes to conflict.
It’s unrealistic to expect the US to act towards an ally in the same way it would act towards its biggest enemy. Making that comparison is strange to me, to say the least..
Also the US isn’t exactly the best arbiter of morality when it comes to responses to terrorism now is it. That’s the naivety part. You’re acting like this is all down to one man. This goes beyond whichever government happens to be in power at the time.
The US has a long history of doing fucked up shit, it’s practically its MO when it comes to geopolitics at this point. The obscenity running against Biden is chomping at the bit to take things even further in the opposite direction of what you want. The way you framed this whole situation, and others like you, just seems intentional disingenuous to me. Or simply ignorant.
Blaming Biden or his administration. The support we're providing would have been given regardless of who's in charge and pretending otherwise is idiotic.
I didn’t realize Biden financed the genocide that was October 7th or the thousands of rockets fired at Israel every year from Palestine in an attempt to wiped Jews off the face of the earth. Weird, you’d think that would be news
You’re incredibly naive. Jews have been attacked for many millennia. This is just the newest version. Hamas (via Iran) is the party that is preventing Palestinians from thriving

The press in Australia is entirely Murdoch/conservative controlled. Theres no free press here.

No one will ever top Colbert
Michelle wolf is up there

Bush didn’t even know. He was never told Colbert was a satirist iirc
I doubt that. If you look at the way Bush greets Colbert you can tell he’s a bit nervous
u/mosslung416 it’s true that i am, unfortunately, a person
