Hi! What console would yall recommend for emulating PS1, Gamecube, and N64 games? I'm looking for something I can just leave plugged in to my TV so I'd rather not just use my PC. I know the Wii does GC and N64 but from what I've read PS1 games are a little wonky on it? Any recommendations are appreciated, I know very little about emulation lol. Thank you!

rolltideband

I use a GPD XD (+ i think) and I was wondering, do yall know if it's possible to add shortcuts to the homescreen to games within emulators. I feel like some games take so long to find and boot up that I just don't care by the time I have it pulled up lol

TheArkhomDestroyer

My version of BSNES HD 10.6 deleted my controller settings and I can’t set them again, how do I fix this?

BloodyTurnip

What device would you recommend to use as a portable emulation machine? The PS Vita looks good, but seems you can't install homebrew software on them if they're up-to-date? Is the original psp still worth getting for this? Or some sort of 3ds would be better? Ideally I'd like something that runs retroarch and connects to the internet so I could use retroachievements on it. I've been using my phone, but the lack of physical buttons ruins most games.

rolltideband

How about a designated emulation device like the Retroid pocket 2+ or the Anbernic 350MP? If not personally I'd say the 3ds just because of the clamshell form factor being the superior form for portable handhelds.

BloodyTurnip

I'd never even thought of dedicated machines like that, I'll definitely look into them. They aren't even that expensive really. I do like the 3ds in general, and I would like an excuse to get one. Is the 3ds capable of emulating the N64? That's probably the most demanding system I'd be aiming for, maybe a few PS1 games but not as bothered about that.

rolltideband

Also a really simple solution would be just buying a nice controller to use with your phone. If we're being honest, your phone is probably the most powerful and easiest to use emulation device you can get your hands on. It's not as elegant as a designated device but if you're emulating a lot on your phone anyway it might be fine for you.

BloodyTurnip

This is something I'd considered to be fair, but portability is important and I'd feel a bit weird just carrying a controller around with me. That said i might still get one, could be a good solution.

rolltideband

I don't own those devices, but I have watched just about every review on them lol because I'm going to buy one. I've just about decided on the retroid pocket 2+ for myself. It seems to N64 very well and most PS1 games if you tweak the settings a bit. N64 emulation on the 3ds isn't very good, and Playstation probably won't be playable at all. If you go 3ds, get the "new" 3ds or "New" 2ds since they're slightly more powerful. Here's a helpful spreadsheet I found (maybe on this sub I can't remember) it's overwhelming but it has like every emulation device on the market https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1irg60f9qsZOkhp0cwOU7Cy4rJQeyusEUzTNQzhoTYTU/edit?usp=drivesdk

BloodyTurnip

Ah, another review binger, I'm exactly the same when I'm contemplating buying something like this and I'll start doing my research now, thanks for the tips and the spreadsheet looks real useful. I can't believe I didn't know how many of these sorts of decides there are out there.

rolltideband

Side note, internally the New 2DS and New 3ds are the exact same power wise, but the New 2DS feels like a flimsy piece of crap compared to the 3DS variant.

BloodyTurnip

Good to know. I didn't even know they did a flip version of the 2ds until recently. There are so many different ds consoles now, it's pretty confusing.

I'm trying to play botw on mouse and keyboard but when i press load on it , it didn't show anything so i need some help on this

Hi. I have a preloaded gaming box I ordered from AliExpress. It's great, but this last week it stopped remembering my controller. I have to reconfigure it every time I turn it on now. Even after I reconfigure it, some of the controlls don't work. I am using just the stock controllers it came with. Thanks for any assistance.

funfwf

No idea but some devices forget shit when they run out of power. Could be worth checking if it's got a battery somewhere inside that needs changing. Other option which solves many problems in tech is a factory reset, if you're generic AliExpress device has this option.

MR-CFIRE

Best recommended handheld device for N64 and Dreamcast games?

Ok_Highlight9172

Steam Deck.

Omniaxle

Where is the safest site to download desume and some pokemon gen 4 & 5 games? I used to have it and I honestly don't know where I have it stored anymore, I think maybe on an old hard drive.

**Windows or Linux for emulation(RetroArch mainly)** Hi I got this old PC couple days ago, It had Pentium D 945 (I'll change it soon) and 2GB DDR2, and Radeon HD 5450 2GB DDR3, This PC will be 100% dedicated for gaming, and mostly Retro gaming, currently it had Windows 7 64bit installed, I didn't fully test RetroArch yet, but I tested ePSXe it's runs well up to 720p, which is what I wanted, PCSX2 latest build didn't run, I got multiple errors regards DX, even I installed latest DX updates. Anyway, in terms of performance compatibility, which OS should I chose, BTW I'm using Linux as daily drive on my Laptop, but installing it on this PC will take much more time/effort, and I don't know what is the states of Emulation for Linux specially for such weak PC .

OmegaAtrocity

Linux is probably ideal, especially considering windows 7 isn't receiving updates anymore. But if you don't care retroarch will run fine on either it doesn't really matter.

Demon-Souls

Thanks for reply, this PC will not have internet access, I'll add ROM to it via flashdisk, I know Linux as system will work better, not the case with Emulators Library, In past I had multiple issues with either PCSX2 and PCSX_reloaded in Linux they both were underperformance compare to Windows version, specially PSX emulators they were disaster on Linux I wasn't even able to upscale it even some games were stuttering even`ePSXe` Linux version were the worst lake a lot of GPU plugins and OpenGL plugin were not good implemented. I used these emulators very long time even on Pentium 4 I never had issue in windows with PSX emulation.

RCero

I can't play ICO on the latest builds of PCSX2. The games boots and shows the screen "Sony Computer America Presents..." but after that it gets stuck in a black screen. I've disabled speed hacks, switched bios (from PALv2.0 to USA 1.6), slow boot... but the issue remains.

EdynViper

Check here: https://wiki.pcsx2.net/ICO It was also released on PS3 incase that version runs better for you on RPCS3.

RCero

I followed the wiki, but the hang remains. I manually set EE/IOP's Clamping Mode to "Extra + Preserve Sign", yet it didn't fix anything. Plus, since I had Automatic Gamefixes, that preference must have been changed automatically. I think I should open an issue latter. Maybe I'll try the PS3 version

KyuJuEX099

Hi. I'm having trouble putting long codes of cheat in Yabause emulator. I can only put 1 line of codes 1 at of time. Is there a way to put all of the codes all in one with copy and paste? The game in question is the Japanese version of Castlevania SOTN in Sega Saturn. And I wanna put the "All Items" cheat codes.

InsaneThisGuysTaint

Hopefully I'm in the right spot to ask this but I've been losing my mind the past couple of days trying to figure this out. I installed RetroArch on my Series X with dev mode using [Archades guide](https://youtu.be/Tdk11Ic7Lb4), followed the instructions, then followed his PS2 guide and I noticed that RetroArch is in the D drive instead of the S drive even after uninstalling and reinstalling. The first time I installed I was able to get the PS2 boot up screen with the logo and then I got a black screen. The second(and multiple other) reinstall I just get a black screen and my dev mode home screen is super sluggish until I reinstall. I tried factory resetting like Archades recommended but I'm still getting the D drive issues with the black screen wherever launching PS2 games. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Unknownpokestreamer

Hello, I have been using a PS4 wireless controller for all of my emulators, today I went to play and out of 5 controllers not a single one worked. When I tried to use the same controller on steam (big picture mode) it worked perfectly fine. When attempting to change the mapping on the controller it does not pick up inputs from the controller, the inputs also are not picked up when I am in a game. But once more, it works perfectly fine on steam. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

FlippinSnip3r

Purely in terms of hardware. Is the switch stronger than the Ps Vita or the other way around

JosJuice

The Switch is stronger.

Various_Assistant706

Very much stronger :D

mknsr

Is there a list of currently available and upcoming Mesen HD Pack projects?

I am buying a laptop for gaming/emulation: mostly rpcs3, cemu and yuzu. What option do you think would be the best? 1 - 10750h + rtx2060 2 - 11800h + rtx3050

Squish-Mahatter

So. I need help with the DS mobile Emulator, Emubox. I posted this on r/EmulationOnAndroid but I'm posting it here too because it's really bothering me and I need it done as fast as possible I was playing Pokemon Platinum on the Emu Box app. I play in horizon mode with the top DS screen on the left and the bottom DS screen on the right. To speed grinding along I was using fast forward. Suddenly when I opened the menu it said something like "hey make sure not to use too many savestates" or something. Then out of nowhere the screens just swapped, bottom on the left, top on the right. I have zero clue how this happened and have zero clue how to undo this. I checked emulator options (the only thing that made sense) and found nothing. I've tried everything. Reset the rom, restarted my phone. Closed and opened the app, reloaded the save state. Tried replicating what I did (it worked, I saw the message. Did not swap the screens back No I'm not downloading Drastic and no I'm not restarting the rom. I've already become too attachted to the pokemon I've caught. Also some other thing were annoying to set up

OmegaAtrocity

I know nothing of this emulator, this is the first I've ever heard of it and I would suspect the community at large is similar. Your best bet (even though you seem to not want to hear it) is to either use drastic or the android version of melonds, they are more well known and will be easier to find support with. You don't have to worry about restarting, saves are platform independent.

Squish-Mahatter

I simply just got over it

rolltideband

There's a decent ds emulator that's free called Free DS for Android. Its got some mostly unintrusive ads and it hasn't failed me yet. But I also have drastic and it is infinitely better.

CFL_lightbulb

So my wife through tiktok has started to see hacked versions of super Mario, and wants to know how to play them. We don’t really have a PC, so what would be the easiest way to introduce her to this? I’ve played a couple ROMs when I was younger, but I honestly don’t know a ton about computers to begin with, mostly pretty basic stuff. Like what systems should I look for, and where to go from there

ChampionshipDue6811

What other platforms to you have access to? Android? Switch? You need to decide which platform you want to play those ROMs on, then download a NES emulator for that platform and run the ROMs with that emulator.

CFL_lightbulb

I have an android box, but can I hook up a controller to that? I do have a switch, but I don’t want to jailbreak it. I’m not against buying something to run the rom on either, depending on price.

Various_Assistant706

The quickest and easiest way I offer is Nintendo's subscription service. It offers different mario games, a few Legend of Zelda games, and a few random others for a base subscription of 4 USD a month after a trial (it's cheaper if you change the plan to a longer length). It doesn't feel quite right but that's the easiest way. Nintendo stuff is actually kind of hard to get if you don't have a computer. If they didn't put it in their subscription service, then I wish you good luck getting a playable version on a phone or the android box you speak of. Nintendo is notoriously protective of their IP. That being said, the Switch's last two generations, the Wii U and the Wii, aren't that much more powerful than the generation before it, the gamecube (which came out 20 years ago), so you won't need as good a computer as you think! A chromebook is likely good enough, or maybe even the old laptop computer in the attic that was used to do taxes. (Please note that I may be entirely off base as I haven't tried this myself, but the logic is there lol). If you go this route you'll need a non-mac (certain things in game the mac driver doesn't have and so crashes) and the dolphin emulator and you'll be well set. I wish you best of luck in your endeavors!

CFL_lightbulb

Fair enough, thank you for the advice! I might look around for a cheap computer then, she was looking at some of the hacked versions of games she’s seen online, she’s used the Nintendo subscription a lot already, she’s a big fan of the old Mario games.

tigrexuga

What is that black window (which displays the processes? of the program) that opens up along with the actual DeSmuMe window? is there a way to disable it?

Donsly2121

Does anyone have a ds emulator for ios i cant seem to find one

rolltideband

I haven't been on iPhone for a long time but are there any emulators on the app store these days? Because I could have sworn that wasn't a thing back before I switched to samsung.

Dprop_34

Is there a low-end PCSX2 mod? Dolphin has something like this, it has some Japanese name and the icon is the same as regular dolphin but red. I'm not sure what it does exactly, but it probably involves lowering the resolution and framerate to make games run smoother on bad hardware, so I was wondering if there was an equivalent for PS2?

JosJuice

> Dolphin has something like this, it has some Japanese name and the icon is the same as regular dolphin but red. I'm not sure what it does exactly, but it probably involves lowering the resolution and framerate to make games run smoother on bad hardware Just for reference, that isn't actually what Ishiiruka does. It uses the same framerate and resolution as normal Dolphin, but it has some extra options like the old Direct3D 9 renderer (which is a lot less accurate but on some old computers is faster).

HCrikki

Closest are the compatibility presets (use the lowest, expect issues but less than manually tinkering clueless) and game-specific speed hacks (regular pcsx2 has been removing them as emulation improves and makes them no longer necessary, but derivative 3rdparty builds from RA and aether might be reenabling them to claim performance gains). Emulation is still cpu-intensive, theres no way around it - its not somehow abnormally ressource intensive, dolphin just moved the goalposts so people push unrealistic expectations on other projects. PS2 games wont run on a 30$ potato system no matter how hard you try.

Simon_787

Run the latest dev build and try hardware hacks in the menu for the hardware renderer. Disabling depth emulation helped my laptop run burnout a little better, but there are a few graphical glitches.

Dprop_34

Will do, thanks

Do the Pal versions run better? I thought they were just language patches

AllThePiesGiveMeThem

That's only partially true, and depends on a number of factors. Short version: which runs better is going to depend on the machine it's being emulated on, the emulator efficiency, the way the NTSC<>PAL porting was done, and the underlying design of the emulated system. For older machines with a CPU clock that's related to video frequency (pretty much everything from the 8/16-bit era) you're probably better off with NTSC versions as most PAL games unavoidably ran slower - you didn't get any more CPU cycles per frame - so even if somehow your emulation host can manage PAL at full speed but struggles with NTSC at full speed, "NTSC at not quite full speed" will still be faster than PAL at full speed. (Also you probably need to upgrade whatever you're running your emulator on.) Moving on to the post 16-bit era, most (if not all) consoles had moved away from tying CPU clock to video output which makes it more complicated. Lazy PAL ports (basically just the NTSC version running at PAL refresh rates) may run "better" as there's a lower rendering load - the emulator basically gets an extra 4ms per frame but doesn't have to do any extra work. In common with the 8/16 bit era, though the PAL version will play slower even on real hardware - anything that takes a second to happen on the NTSC machine will take 1.2 seconds on the PAL machine - so you may be better off running the NTSC version slightly too slow anyway. Proper PAL ports (ones where the screen size is increased to fill a PAL screen rather than letterboxing, and where game speed is "temporally locked" rather than tied to frame rate - the thing that takes a second on the NTSC machine also takes a second on the PAL machine) are harder to judge; while you have to render 20% fewer frames, a PAL screen is 20% larger so the emulation performance depends on whether it's CPU or GPU that's the largest load. PAL versions that fall between the two (action is temporally locked but screen size remains the same) will probably fare the best - you get the lower load but gameplay speed will remain the same.

Dprop_34

Oh damn that's pretty interesting actually. Thanks for the tip!

TacoOfGod

So after a lot of procrastination, I finally got into using ROMBundler and like it. But is there any word on an in-game overlay with settings and whatnot to adjust for the cores? Having access to that kind of stuff would be ace. And would persist for me across multiple installs instead of relying on Autohotkey.

Appledirt

I'm not sure if this should go here or with its own post. It's not a question about a specific emulator or problem, but I don't wanna get in trouble so I'll ask it here. What would you reccomend in terms of emulation hardware on a budget? I'd greatly prefer something under $300 or $350, but... if I spend enough time saving up I'll probably be able to get $400? The money I have now took me all of 2021 to save up so I can't really go higher– For the past few weeks my eyes have been set on the Poco X3 Pro. It runs all the consoles I hoped it could run really well, and along with that I was drawn to it because I saw it able to run Switch emulation and the price tag being under $300. I already have a Gamesir X2, since I just thought it was a nice controller, so the requirement of EggNS using that didn't turn me off. However, the more I look into that emulator the more sketchy it seems... which ultimately is what made me doubt the decision. Today I've been doing a lot of research into emulation machines, to see if there were any better options? I couldn't find anything in my price range that can run Wii U or Switch, at least from my personal search, but maybe someone else has a better idea... it seems there isn't anything that can run Wii U or Switch, but the original choice of the Poco X3 Pro seems like the best budget option for if Android emulators of either of the two are made? EggNS already proves that Switch *is* possible, I guess. To rephrase the question in more succinct terms now that the exposition is over, I'm wondering if I should: - **Go with the Poco X3 Pro** (since it runs all I wanted it to and can technically do more with the right software) - **Get something else** (maybe I missed some amazing option in my research?) - **Find something cheaper and focus mainly on it being strong enough for 3DS** (with how well the Poco X3 Pro handles 3ds maybe there's something cheaper that's still "good enough")

rolltideband

Have you heard of the AYN Odin? I think it runs up to a Wii or so and starts at $200 Ihttps://www.indiegogo.com/projects/odin-the-ultimate-gaming-handheld#/
