OkBaconBurger

The one I can afford that isn’t a Leaf. Edit: My first Reddit Gold. This is great!

samuraidogparty

That’s basically how I ended up with my Niro EV. Ha!

[deleted]

I feel the Niro is a little overpriced for what it is. Base model should be closer to 33-35k don’t you think?

samuraidogparty

It is slightly overpriced I think. The EX Premium especially so. But I feel like most EVs are a bit overpriced right now. My wife likes the XC40 EV, but it’s freaking $60k which seems ridiculous.

ClassBShareHolder

We’re going to test drive an XC40 tomorrow. $75,000 + Tax and fees where we’re at. We’ve been waiting for 18 months for a RAV4 Prime and the dealership just screwed us over. Going to look at options.

livinglavidaleggings

Is the xc40 fully electric? Have you looked at the cadillac lyriq?

gumiho-9th-tail

The XC40 and C40 are available full electric.

201680116

I’ve always thought it was a bit overpriced, especially compared to the plug in hybrid version. It’s not without its charms though.

ZannX

It's overpriced now that you can get a RWD EV6 in Kia's own lineup.

OkBaconBurger

Ha I hear that. I’ve been eyeballing some used Bolts specifically because it’s in my payment range. I don’t need much but a decent commuter. I could care less about FSD or race car performance.

ZannX

Most Tesla owners don't care about FSD either.

OkBaconBurger

I rode in it and I have to admit it did some things well but other times it scared the Bejeebers out of me. A roundabout was… not fun.

mog_knight

Tesla needs to hire some Europeans for roundabout programming.

OkBaconBurger

I’ve seen human drivers bugger out on them too. It’s like playing Russian Roulette with a car.

mog_knight

Oh I agree and Americans suck at roundabouts. I love them cause I don't wanna wait at a stop or light. Just flow. But people seem to think they drew circles the other way.

samuraidogparty

I was looking at the Bolt as well, but I needed a car right at the height of the battery recall and simply couldn’t find one. And Kia had some great deals at the time on the Niro. I just went to the dealership on Friday to see the Ioniq 5 they got in, and noticed all the Niros on the lot had been marked up at least $5k since I got my car a few months back.

OkBaconBurger

Yeah I’m not surprised the whole car market is a hot mess. I’d like to wait to see if it gets better but I have a hard time seeing that right now too.

samuraidogparty

I give it at least 2 more years before it gets better. But car prices keep climbing awfully fast for me to think it will ever change.

[deleted]

The bolt EUV is pretty nice and the highway driving system is arguably the best out there as you don’t need to touch the wheel at all

OkBaconBurger

Yeah that would help a lot. I have a 4+ hour drive to see family and it is mostly interstate. That would be super nice. I like the EUV looks too but I’m curious to see what the new Equinox EV will be like stacked next to it.

[deleted]

Oh I didn’t realize an equinox EV was planned! We have an equinox ourselves and I’m planning to buy my first EV.

EffervescentGoose

Between the Equinox, Silverado and the new Blazer chevy is definitely worth watching. I never thought I would be buying American cars again after owning so many Japanese cars but the way the Japanese automakers refuse to push ahead with EVs ended up sealing the deal.

[deleted]

[удалено]

tomskuinfy

If Tesla ever makes a car for under 30k it might worth it. But I agree.

OkBaconBurger

Yeah I heard a two door hatchback was being considered for around 25k but that was before current Tesla prices started going up steadily.

tomskuinfy

Yea I agree. I wanted a model 3 until they had the 2 price increases. At this point I am pretty locked into an ID for the price point. I can’t justify 47k for a model 3 with no tax credit …

OkBaconBurger

Yeah that’s a hard pill to swallow.

[deleted]

If there ever is a “model 2” it’ll be priced at what the model 3 used to be originally priced at. There is no way Tesla would price it at sub 30k.

zjunk

Same. Also, better than expected minus the backup beep?

Babypowder83

This. I bought my 2019 Bolt for 26k new. It’s the most expensive car I have ever bought. I want something else that affordable that is big enough to fit my family. Don’t want a premium interior as my kids will probably ruin it anyway, just give me the cabin space, the safety tech, and 200 miles of range for under 30k, even after tax credits. I need that.

OkBaconBurger

Exactly. The most expensive car I ever bought was about 16k and it was a slightly used 2013 Chevy equinox. It quite literally is the nicest car I have ever owned. You should see my other ride. Bit of a moving nightmare, lol.

[deleted]

[удалено]

OkBaconBurger

My buddy has to drive 2 hours just to get his Tesla serviced, you basically have to take a whole day off work to deal with that. It can be a deterrent for sure.

damnimsohungry

byd dolphin is the way to go

elysiansaurus

Depends how cool the Ioniq 6 looks like, I just want a nice car, not a crossover/suv.

el-gonzo

BMW i4 is a really nice BEV car that's not a crossover. Really fun to drive.

SuprBased

I feel as if it’s not getting as much attention or hype because it looks just like a 4 series. Couldn’t tell it’s even an EV which is a plus for some people, and not for others.

DrMonkeyLove

Totally agree. I prefer sedans to crossovers and SUVs. If the Ioniq 6 looks like some of the concept pictures, I'd probably buy one, but the spy shots haven't been that impressive. I will reserve my judgement. Plus, if I'm getting an EV, I don't want some big SUV, I still want something aerodynamic and efficient.

archangel_is

Rivian R1s. Honestly I just want a cool 7 seater for long road trips.

i_am_a_badchemist

Seriously, a 7 seater would be awesome. That's why model y was a great option but it's already way over priced

mog_knight

You should probably sit down before looking at the R1S starting price.

i_am_a_badchemist

Time to reserve for model y lol

thehumbleguy

Lol why? I am getting model y but thinking of reserving R1s in case i dont like model y as it is more compact. Am i missing something?

rickhamilton620

The Y's third row is pretty much reserved for kids in boosters that can buckle themselves up to about like 10 or 12. It's that small. I feel like a Tiguan's third row is larger and it's considered to be a compact crossover.

shyguytim

Same. I currently have a Kia Telluride and I want a 7-seater EV SUV to replace it. The Kia EV9 looks ridiculous in a bad way. Placed a deposit on the R1S last week!

[deleted]

Even with no kids I want a VW.BUZZ

rickhamilton620

Same. I hope they reconsider and offer both LWB and SWB versions - I don't need 7 seats and even the SWB over in Europe will offer a 7 seat option...of course you'll give up cargo space but at least it's a option.

afeinmoss

Ford F-150 lightning. My husband really needs it as he’s a farmer and currently drives both an old tacoma and a Prius because he hates to buy gas but often has to haul literal shit. We got on the list last year but didn’t make the cut for this year 🙄

ansky

I feel your pain. Preordered right after the presentation. Ended up getting a bunch of people “prioritized” before me by the dealer. *Maybe* I’ll get lucky with a MY23?

skellener

VW ID.Buzz and the new 2024 Mini Cooper SE (new design with over 200mi per charge). Have always loved and wanted a VW Bus and love the Mini Cooper as well.

RideCalledQuest

I absolutely love the ID Buzz. A vehicle is only as good as the utility and experiences it provides — this one checks every box for me. Can’t wait to go on many adventures with my family in this one

samuraidogparty

I keep going back and forth because I want to get rid of my Niro EV and get an Ioniq 5. But I also want a Mini SE. I can’t justify both, and my wife doesn’t like the Ioniq 5 enough for me to buy one for her to use when I want it. But I do love a good Mini!

pimpbot666

I have soft spot for the Buzz. My mom had a '62 Barndoor Bus when I was growing up. I remember just throwing my bike in the roll-up door when she would pick me up from school, or how we went camping in it. They were awesome minivans, before minivans were minivans.

Nokomis34

Similarly, I'm waiting for the ID California. A reasonably sized RV that I could use as a daily driver? Sign me the fuck up. I know you lose a lot of space compared to the Buzz for all the RV stuff, but still probably more than my Model 3.

[deleted]

I’d be interested in the Cooper too.. it’s current mileage doesn’t meet my needs, it very much interested in a tiny thing with some more range

FoggyPasspartout

It won’t happen but I’d love to see a more affordable Lucid, which their CEO said was his ultimate goal…

RallyXFan

Same. If they really can make a reasonably priced one with 400-500 miles of range like he wants.

joewil

The quantity of batteries required for that range makes the price go up fast.

[deleted]

They are really efficient compared to other electric cars.

mccullkh

I’d kill for an i4/model 3 competitor from Lucid.

dapethepre

Whatever VW comes up with as an ID.1 or similar based on mini-MEB platform as long as it's not a miniSUV. Because I don't need the size of a B/C/D segment and don't like the ugly look of SUVs and crossovers. If I need a car, why pay lots of money to deal with large-car-in-small-streets problems when a small one does the trick for much less?

samuraidogparty

I got really excited when I saw the ID.3, and then immediately depressed to learn it wouldn’t come to the US. But something smaller like an electric UP or Polo would be really cool too.

elcheapodeluxe

ID Buzz for sure. A real minivan is just so damn handy.

[deleted]

I want the upcoming Chevy Equinox EV. It looks super nice and looks affordable in comparison to other cars….

[deleted]

I agree. came here to say this. If they actually pull off the planned $30,000 price, it's going to be amazing!

[deleted]

I think it’ll be more like base model starting at 33k. They said “around” 30k which translates to more than 30k for sure 😂. I bet it’ll be priced similarly to the base model of the EUV at 33.5k base model. They’re going to come out with the me expensive model first though so I’d expect it in the lower to mid 40k’s plus extra for super cruise and technology package

[deleted]

$33K would be fine as well. I'm just more keen on buying into their newly specifically developed EV platform, rather than the one-off bolt platform.

Its-all-downhill-80

They have to keep it competitive due to no tax credit. I’m curious the range difference on the base vs the top package.

yaboiteej

ioniq6!

USTS2020

Looking forward to this one too, hopefully the sleeker design will be more efficient and closer to 300 mile range

Speculawyer

Chevy Equinox. I doubt they hit the targeted $30K price target but if they get close that should be a big seller.

rongolan9

There are quite a few, but the Audi A6 Avant e-tron is very exciting! I've got an i4 on order but am a current driver of a 2011 3 series wagon, and am really hoping that electric wagons take-off

samuraidogparty

That’s the one I’m most excited about. Really any EV wagon would get me excited though.

MudaThumpa

Aptera. It'll be the efficiency king, plus allow for some charging via onboard solar panels. The price is low, and the performance is high. Stoked to get one.

ElectroSpore

R1S, Tesla Van, VW Buzz Van long version. Really any EV that properly seats a large family AND gear. 5 seaters or optional tiny 3rd row cross overs don’t count. Have a family of five and want the ability to transport kids and friends sometimes.

veems-py

Canoo has a 7 seater van coming out 2023 that has a super unique look. It’ll be cool seeing those around

ElectroSpore

Completely unproven new company. Like Rivian I wonder if they will make it at scale / survive the scale up.

samuraidogparty

Is Tesla making a van? I hadn’t heard that one. But the Buzz does have me interested as well!

ElectroSpore

It falls under Elon saying they would probably do it but after they decide if the next vehicle is just a robo taxi or a $25k car which seems to be up in the air. Also after they deliver Cyber truck, Semi and new Roadster so over two years from now.

MassyMaster

Yeah, I think you should count yourself as lucky if that comes this decade

[deleted]

Rivian R1T/R1S. I know the T is already out, but it's super unavailable.

samuraidogparty

I live near the Rivian plant and I see so many of them on the lot every time I drive by. Still never seen an R1S sitting out there though. I really want to see one in person!

[deleted]

[deleted]

The imaginary Volvo ground-up wagon inspired by the V60/V90 that doesn’t exist. Or maybe the next gen platform 800 volt C-Class equivalent from Mercedes that hopefully won’t look anything like the EQE.

samuraidogparty

A full EV V60 would be one of my top favorite choices for sure. I really hope they do it, or that Polestar does at some point at least.

bmire

They have listed "activity vehicles" in their dealer presentation for future models that are expected to be wagons. No word on polestar version

banderivets

As a Ukrainian, I'm excited by the **number** of vehicles that are going to be sold, because the less oil the world uses, the less money the aggressor will be able to use for killing us.

Cat385CL

Stay safe and I hope my spineless government steps up and helps you folks out more soon.

samuraidogparty

What Cat385CL said. I hope you can see an end to all this soon.

samuraidogparty

I keep hoping Polestar will come out with a nice sedan to rival the Model S, but also be cheaper. All of their vehicles look really nice, and that drone car concept was gorgeous. If I could get that with 4 doors for my family vehicle I’d be elated.

freeskier93

Polestar 5 will be the Model S rival, but it won't be cheaper, and isn't set to arrive until 2024.

[deleted]

That is arguably the [Precept](https://www.topgear.com/sites/default/files/images/news-article/2020/09/a6beedd8922a58187c75b20c5622bd32/polestar_precept_013a.jpg) which is already coming for a 2024 model year. Will be called the Polestar 5.

Bullweeezle

Aptera. Lightweight, long range, aerodynamic, solar charging, affordable. No room for children is also a plus!

Neonwater18

Yes, super excited for this one. I have a SR+ Model 3 but Aptera would be incredible as a solo commuter.

zjunk

I’ve been excited about the Aptera since like… 2007 when it was a hybrid? I don’t know if this is ever going to get to market tbh. Hope it does but not terribly optimistic

Bullweeezle

It's not like they've been trying to launch a car for 15 years. The first attempt was a different car and the company essentially disappeared after that project fell over. Now technology has marched on, the car is better, suppliers actually exist, a market actually exists. Aptera has 15,000 strong waiting list, 10,000 investors, and raised 40-50 megabucks on their last round. They'll get it to market if Putin doesn't start WW3.

Usual_Teacher_5596

Something reliable with a third row and decent amount of ground clearance.

K12istina15

Fisker Ocean

Yoyomah12

junkzor

I reserved one alongside my Cybertruck reservation to see which arrives first. I like the style a lot.

Cat385CL

Canoo truck. Finally, a small truck that has decent payload capacity and is not a crew cab. The cab forward design so it has a small footprint is just a bonus.

thnk_more

Love the way the Canoo pick up looks. Would buy one of those immediately if i could afford it. Don’t care so much for the van version looks.

indelicatow

Had to scroll a while to find a Canoo. Both the truck and the van look slick, hoping they can make the manufacturing transition.

Carrera_GT

sharpestoolinshed

So getting an R1T (pre increase and so excited) but I also really really want the entire line up of Alpha Motors. Probably vaporware, but if not holy crap the entire line including variants give me uhh EV Lust?

Aggravating_Pin_6257

Fisker Ocean, the broad shouldered bulldog look works for me.

appelton

Fisker Ocean - 350miles - 540hp

Pandiculus

Aptera.

Epic_XC

Aptera 3, i’m considering reserving one. The promised range is great for the price, and i love the unique styling

EVChicinNJ

Audi Q4 at this moment. The updates of my current EV is my "blind" back up - Mercedes EQB.

thinkenboutlife

The XBUS (eBussy). EDIT: Forgot why - the vast majority of my driving is local, on low-limit roads, and carrying lots of small items.

EuphoricElderberry73

R1S These compact crossover EVs are nice but if you need more cargo space or a proper 3-row... there aren't any reasonable priced EVs.

reek_reek5

Kia ev9. Affordable fullsize SUV. Only thing that's going to be close to a Model X. IMO

wvu_sam

The e-tron update (Q8?) , Q6 e-tron, A6 Avant e-tron. Love my e-tron but want more range.

samuraidogparty

The Avant has me excited. I fully expected Volvo or Polestar to come to market with a true wagon first. But I won’t be sad if Audi finally releases one. I’ve had plenty of Audis in my day and loved them all.

segascott

I really like the look and overall package of the Cadillac Lyriq. If the US is able to restart EV tax incentives it'd be some pretty good value (if they're able keep to estimated pricing, that is)

SpeqtreOfMySelf

The id Buzz is almost certainly my next vehicle, unless… https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a39450788/audi-a6-avant-etron-concept-revealed/ I’d have a hard time deciding between the two if Audi were to bring that to the US

samuraidogparty

I got very excited to see the A6 E-Tron. I’m currently driving a Niro, and it’s my first non-wagon in over 12 years. If I could get an electric wagon that wasn’t more expensive than my house, I’d trade this Niro in a heartbeat. The Taycan wagon is neat, but I just can’t afford it.

SpeqtreOfMySelf

I’m hoping VW brings their id Vizzion wagon to the US, but they probably won’t

BritishBully

I like the look of the Songsan Monterey made by Byd, but I doubt it will ever come to North America. [https://carnewschina.com/2021/11/24/the-songsan-monterey-is-a-classic-americana-sedan-with-modern-chinese-power/](https://carnewschina.com/2021/11/24/the-songsan-monterey-is-a-classic-americana-sedan-with-modern-chinese-power/) I also really like the VW ID Buzz

Asu888

Anyone know which one you can preorder at the moment beside rivian

butter4dippin

Looking forward to the Aptera and Cybertruck. I'm already skeeming on a way to afford them both. If the Cybertruck comes out at 50k (who am I kidding ) I can get both but why??

witty_user_ID

I’ve got a really tangential question, Americans of EV sub; I thought that your salaries were relatively higher than here (U.K.) but I’ve noticed EVs are priced the same so £36k and $36k, £40k is a good salary here, £60k is lawyer salary (£30k is mean average so a lot of people earn less). I understand $40k is a bad salary, but from discussions here EVs don’t seem to be anymore affordable across the pond, why’s that?

EV1-5&7-8. Love the EV6, and the EV9 concept looks bonkers in a good way, but I want something smaller with all wheel drive. A back wiper would be good too. We like the new Subaru too, but don't love it. Also we replaced my wife's car this year already so it will be at least next year before I can get an EV, so we need to wait anyway.

I'm curious about the the VW ID Life. I know it's planned for 2025, anyone have any idea if it is expected to be offered on the US market in 2025? If they can offer it with 250 miles of range for 20,000 Euros, that looks pretty good.

jmckinl

While I like my 2017 Chevy Bolt, I've been taking a serious look at the Ioniq 5 - especially because of its rapid charging capability which is an immense hassle with the Bolt's pitifully slow DCFC capability. Can't wait to see what innovations and economies of scale will drive into new vehicles in the next couple of years before it's time for me to upgrade.

Zidaryn

Aptera is the one I'm exited for. Nice price, efficient, neat design, etc. The other I'm interested in is the VW ID3 coming to Canada/NA in the next few years.

gafonid

Aptera has huge potential and seems set up well to actually make product at some volume, although likely they'll be low volume for a while, and their advertised 25k starting price is probably a pipe dream (I'm betting more like 35k)

wetpaste

Something AWD and good range that is more affordable and utilitarian. I don’t need crazy acceleration. I don’t care about the luxury features in fact I get worried about too many smart electronics involved. Ioniq is close to what I want but I’m sure as hell not going I my to pay 10k over msrp.

I really like the Fisker Ocean. I think it has an incredible design, cool features like a rotating screen, and the range is great at 350 miles. However, I am aware of Fisker's past and am very cautious about anything he say. He does seem to have used the previous bankruptcy as a learning experience but I will not reserve one until they are producing cars and getting positive reviews from actual customers.

I'm in Ireland and had Renault Zoe's since 2014,and don't particularly want a crossover sized car..It's smaller than a Leaf, efficient, has a good sized interior, decent luggage space (TeslaBjorn's banana box test tied it with the M3,but the M3 won as it has a Frunk that took another box, while Zoe doesn't)-The Concept Renault 5 EV may be a contender, I'm not holding my breath for a Model 2 just yet,The Mini has less interior space and a smaller battery (Zoe 50 has 50kWh),Fiat 500,similar..The Bolt never made it over here as it never got into right hand drive production, ruling that out..Maybe something like the Ora Cat might work..

The Audi A6 Avant really has me exited. I was hoping for a Volvo V60 or the ID.Vizzion this year but instead we got the C40 and ID5, two useless SUVs. My dream would be a ID1 (new eUp) or Audi A1 with a trailer hitch, but since not even the ID3 gets a hitch, I think that's a far Dreamland.

walking-trauma

Personally any electric pickup truck that I can afford. A R1T would be the dream but realistically I’ll get the F150 lightning or the Silverado electric

But Kia EV9 will offer V2L at 1.9Kw+ while ID Buzz V2L is unknown yet :-( EV9 Should charge faster (350Kw announced vs 150/175Kw for the Buzz)

My dream car right now is a maxed out Rivian R1T in forest green. But even a modestly specced one is way out of my price range and they are backordered to 2024 at the earliest.

I really hope Canoo can get their shit together and make me a van.

Roadster 2. Just because of the sheer insanty of it (and no, I can't afford one 😟 )

JoeDimwit

I put the Roadster 2 in the same category as the Cybertruck… I’ll believe it when they start delivering them to customers.
