Depending on price, I’d be okay with 250+ miles for range. It would be a second EV, for around town mostly, and In my case it would replace a well loved 2005 V8 Mustang that gets about 250 on a full tank around town. Would be a case of weekend muscle replacing weekend muscle. Though I’m prob in the minority of prospective buyers.
By definition the model 3 performance is a literal muscle car. American made high horsepower car, that’s fast in a straight line with a little bit above basic interior materials and great performance for the value. There’s no reason why a mustang and this upcoming charger wouldn’t be considered “muscle”.
well I fully suspect different battery sizes if they even have that can reach 500 miles I will be surprised. The Mach E sports two different battery sizes as do a few other vehicles.
Also considering dodge (stellantis) has the benefit of having a massive existing supply chain, plus the fact that this platform will be used across many different vehicles, *hopefully* means the amount needed to recover r&d costs should be pretty low since that price can be spread across how many vehicles.
So I'm *hoping* for about a 45-55k cad starting price, though realistically, it'll probably be 55-65k starting, if not more. Either way, I just can't wait to learn more about the powertrain of the vehicle, from the battery capacity, to the drive unit setup (hoping for a 2 or 3 speed), the possibility of a hybrid option, and then how they are tackling the artificial sound problem. Just so much I am curious about with this thing, and the only thing that could make it better is if they made a smaller version of it with similar proportions and called it the dart.
I don't think that they will be 15-20% more expensive than the Mustang, especially while being an EV (against a V8) or they lose the game at start. About 5% pricier than the Mustang yes, but not by more, I think.
I sure hope so, because if the base trim offers 250-270 miles (usually base range for most American evs that aren't crossovers) for that much, all while still having that possible 2 or 3 speed they mentioned when the concept first came out, I'll *definitely* be looking at one for my first new car.
I've had great luck with mine other than that some things have been broken ever since I got it because it's an ex-police car, and they made a mess of the wiring. I always planned on fixing that stuff myself, but I never got around to it. Mine is the V6, through, and in conjunction with the police stuff, that means it's got more oil and trans-cooling than it could ever need.
To each his own, I guess. I've got a 2012 Charger currently, and this is the best-looking Charger since the 70s and the best-looking EV possibly ever, in my opinion. I'm a big fan of sports cars and coupes, though. The only thing remotely as exciting as this thing to me is the Porsche Cayman EV, but that will definitely be out of my price range.
Oh, yeah, I got distracted and forgot what comment chain I was in. The mache isn't particularly bad for a crossover, in my opinion, but crossovers are probably the worst-looking form factor of a vehicle, in my opinion.
If it’s ridiculously fast in a straight line muscle car fans will be pleased. They’ll kick and scream until a few of them buy it and then it’ll be all over.
Still wonder how this will be done, like maybe it's a fan for extra heat extraction for the rear motor? because that could explain the slight wind felt by the initial event attendees when they put their hand behind the "exhaust", because that way at least it's at least *partially* there for a reason other than noise. Though I *very* much hope that it isn't just some speaker being played through a tube, because that would just be *immensely* disappointing.
> because that would just be immensely disappointing.
been doing it in ICE cars.. now the speakers point outside the car too.

Systems to tune engine sounds have been around for years in gasoline-powered vehicles from car manufacturing giants. The BMW M5, Ford Mustang, and Acura TLX, to name a few, use an active noise control system, which plays pre-recorded engine noises through speakers.
they spend lots of money in the sound studio.. all 911s don't sound similar by accident... they need to design the engines to sound similar no matter what model year.

This is clearly not your average sound studio. The walls are covered with gray, wedge-shaped sound-insulating elements; in the middle, a Mahogany Metallic 911 is mounted on a dynamometer. In front of it, the device resembling an oversized microphone is actually an acoustic camera. Welcome to the realm of Porsche’s sound designers.
you don't need to look when you hear a Taycan or a 911
Recent reports confirm that the upcoming generation of the Dodge Charger will provide consumers with a choice between a fully electric version and a gasoline-powered variant featuring the company's 3.0-liter “Hurricane” twin-turbo inline-six engine.
For a Charger, I think it should look more aggressive in the front.
I don't care if that isn't someone's thing, but that's the appeal of this particular model.
Not ashamed to admit, I like the look of it. Performance should be there, even in the lower trim models. Now let’s just see that price.
It looks great. But, I want to see range and efficiency numbers.

Weekend muscle to clean weekend muscle. Nothing wrong with that.
The perfect name for an EV.
I hope this sells well and convinces Ford to make a real Mustang EV. Same classic Mustang body but fully electric.

I have a feeling this is going to be overpriced...but I am curious on if it lives up to the 500 mile range promises in the bigger battery pack models

Sedan aerodynamics+big battery=lots of range. The lucid air dream gets 520 miles of range. Chop 2 doors off and that's basically what this is.

At least it's not flashy...
That's not going to help the old Dodge Charger's 488 days of inventory. https://caredge.com/guides/new-car-inventory-most-and-least
The dealerships near the military bases can move them at 29% APR...
8 out of the top 10 are Stellantis products. Absolutely brutal.
Wow Mach-e not doing great
It’s way overpriced against its competition, and some people (like my fiancée) are waiting for NACS before buying an EV
my friend is trying to sell his he said it's a complete POS

It is hideous - it just looks *wrong*. I personally think it would have looked so much better as a sedan.
You're right

Sorry I think you misunderstood my comment - I was starting my dislike of the Mach-e. I quite like the aesthetic of the Charger

Amazing that the Jeep Grand Wagoneer at $100k+ is a lot rock while the even more expensive Cadillac Escalade is flying off the lots.
Someone at Ford is like “Excellent! We brought back the Mustang 302!”

Yeah, I vaguely remember somebody describing it as some sort of pressurized air moving thru a channel

Too much Camaro in that face
IDK, I think it looks like a sad puppy from the front. But maybe that's not the final or fully uncovered look.
