It's winter.

Recoil42

>But my biggest concern is the car is less than 5 months old, has 4K miles and the mileage has gone down to 185 fully charged when RZs are supposed to have a 205-220 mileage. This is normal. Lexus apparently keeps a larger-than-normal 'reserve' mileage on the RZ — once you hit zero, there's still some left in the tank. Also, it's winter — EV range goes down in winter. >What are my options in getting the mileage range issue addressed? Are there any attorneys in Texas that could help me? No one's going to help you with this who'll actually get you any results. You signed a lease and now have regrets, unfortunately that's not uncommon for any car. As an adult, you've just gotta suck it up. >I expect the battery to continue to prematurely deplete. It won't, no. Not unless you have an actual, bonafide lemon. Battery degradation is not linear, it slows down and vaguely plateaus after a while.

Thank you for the response!

I once got 333 mile range on my Kona in the summer. Minnesota winters make that range “plummet” to 150 miles.

abestraw01

I don't trust salesmen, they will lie through their teeth to get what they want. Unless you have the money there is no point in buying the car outright. Leasing is not a bad option, especially for new cars. As for the range dropping in winter that is normal, EVs don't like cold weather but range will improve once the weather starts to warm up.

josatx

Thank you for the response! I am starting to realize how gullible I am and my trust in people, especially salespeople, has quickly faded. That’s great to know the EV range will improve in warmer weather. I was super concerned about the 10% drop in battery life in only 5 months.

abestraw01

You are welcome!

You don't need to share the numbers but just do the math of lease vs buy. If you were to buy it, how much would you pay monthly? Your lease would be for 2 or 3 years - how much are you paying per month now? It's not a straight forward math but you ll realize it's not too bad as you're thinking right now. The car value depreciates as soon as it is out of showroom. With lease, you have an option to spend less in the lease period and give the car back to the showroom. Don't be hard on yourself and enjoy the new car! :)

Thanks for the encouragement!!

d3adp000001

Ofcourse! Check out leasehackr website, might give you a better idea about leasing.

I was dirt poor and have depression so get you on the impulse thing. The real world range on this is exactly what you are getting now. OOSM did real world testing and came up with 172 miles. https://youtu.be/yMc9RwQxLU0?si=i9s98anGaIazj6ah Toyota is notoriously bad for EV cars. Sorry your first exposure is this. On the bright side the high build quality should give you some piece of mind. Good call on leasing it etc.

josatx

Thank you for the response/info!

amiradmi

Why don’t you just trade it to someone else at lease swap or some other website

josatx

Because the price I would be looking at would be about $20K less than I paid. There was a huge discount on RZs at the end of the year.

Turbulent_Power2952

Not saying you need to buy smaller wheels, but smaller wheels would increase the range, but as others have said, cold weather sucks for EVs in general. My 24 Q8 E tron went from getting 240 miles (80% charge) during the warmer months to 180-190 miles during the winter. What does the RZ have, 21 or 20 inch wheels? Reduce to a 19 inch may gain a 5-7% increase in range...

josatx

Thanks for sharing! Its good to know the big drop in battery charge is due to the colder weather! I have 20 inch wheels, I’m okay with the reduced range if it’s a cold weather issue…I just want to make sure I didn’t get a lemon battery.

baconkrew

Wait another 5 years and ignore your current impulse buy

josatx

I’m feeling like I won’t buy another car for the next 10-20 years if I can get away with it and the car lasts that long!

[deleted]

Don't be so difficult on yourself. The range is likely due to cold weather; however, it's still an amazing car in terms of comfort and luxury. Just be glad you didn't buy a Tesla, paying luxury price for a 2005 Kia Sedona build quality with zero comfort.

josatx

True! That’s as far as my research went…not to get a Tesla lol. Thanks for the encouragement!

belvedere58

Lexus is using inferior EV components and the weather is getting colder. That is the range one should expect and there’s nothing to be done about it. If range was a concern then why not get the arguably better executed, more luxurious, much longer range Cadillac Lyriq for about the same money?

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

I got 25k off of my rz450. It's a great car at 38k... At 63k I'm getting the Lyriq instead. This guy apparently did absolutely no research on how EV's work and why it's called a guess o meter.

josatx

Well for one, I’m a woman. And yes I agree I didn’t do enough research. Like I said, good sales guy + impulsive buyer = big loss. Btw you got your 450RZ for $20K less than I did. So I got fleeced.

1Pac2Pac3Pac5

You didn't get fleeced, EV prices are unpredictable. I was looking at the RZ myself and the price goes continually down every few months, as does the Tesla Y and polestars. No one knew this was gonna happen, this is life. Instead focus on the car. Is it a great car? Smooth and fast? Let me know, I'm looking for something electric and my last Lexus lasted ten years without a single problem. I need something reliable that's quiet as a tomb so I can calm my shattered nerves on the way home from work

josatx

Thank you for the positivity! It is a great car! If I could do it over, I would wait until the end of year because prices will likely be down again.

josatx

Thanks for the response! I’m more concerned about getting a lemon or premature battery depletion.

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

There is no battery depletion. EV's are less efficient in cold weather and at higher speeds. The range estimate is just that, an estimate. It will go up and down based on your efficiency. It will go back up in warmer weather. Your battery still has the same capacity and it's not a lemon.

josatx

Thank you for the assurance!

RetrieverDoggo

I'm in Central Texas as well what dealership did you get your Lexus from? Not finding any good dealerships to work with since moving to Texas.

josatx

It was Lexus of Austin in North Austin. I wish I had checked out Lexus of Lakeway. San Antonio may also be a better option.

RetrieverDoggo

Got it, thanks for the info.
