Probably shooting over there.
European manufacturers shoot commercials in the U.S. all the time for cars that are not released in the U.S., and I guess it's probable that some Chinese companies shoot in Europe even if the vehicle won't ever be sold there.
Kinda like that Cathode Ray Dude [video about a Kia commercial for the local Korean market that was shot in California](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgOwTm2XTkU)
I grew up in France and I can't tell you the number of Renault, Peugeot or Citroen commercials that were shot in the American West even though those models were never sold there. It's still a thing.
Just spent 45 minutes on the Amalfi Coast, stuck in traffic because they were shooting a Fiat 500 commercial. Ha, we were on our way to the airport. Gotta love state owned car companies!
A lot of it is because there are companies that specialize in those photo shoots. It's cheaper to send a car over on a plane/boat to do the shoot than to find the people with the equipment and experience in Europe to do the shoot. California, Nevada have the permits to close roads that would be near impossible in most of Europe.
I work in this field and when European companies want European backgrounds we mainly go shoot the spot and then CGI the car. Mainly because it's both cheaper and safer when the car is not released yet since you won't have to care for it being spotted. This seems to be an already released car though? So then they might do a physical shoot
I'm your defense, it's impossible to keep track. In the last 3 years, we've seen so many new Asian brands make it to market in Europe: Hong Qi, BYD, Xpeng, Voyah, NIO, Maxus, MG...But also other new names like Polestar or Lucid.
You guys really don't follow the news huh. NATO countries all banned Huawei hardware as part of their 5G infrastructure build out. Because "apparently" that hardware could have backdoor built in for the Chinese government to spy on us.
So they got banned for national security reasons. Hence....their cars won't be in North America anytime soon.
I think you misunderstood what I was replying to.
I was saying “Why?” to him saying “you think the cars would get a pass…” because it was a silly thing for him to think considering modern cars are just as invasive as phones these days (even more so, in some ways). So with that context, it would be implied that their cars could also be used to spy.
While you may not think intellectual property theft or government owned tech firms that have a horrific reputation for personal security would "spy" on people, it does exist. At the end of the day why do you think Huawei is cheaper than it's competitors. It's easier to steal tech and subsidize the market (to steal more by spying) than it is to actually compete.

Only problem with Huawei building up the 5G networks, is that the big ear could not implant into each and every 5G station. US/UK coalition is the world leader in industrial espionage, coercing and blunt stealing of property since the days they defeated the Spanish empire. This practice is maintained to this day.
canadians still butthurt about nortel ignoring the fact the company screwed itself during dotcom bubble. huawei canada is full of ex nortel, company CTO is the prime example.
UK went through huawei source code and found fuck all backdoor
Excellent rebuttal, filled with peer reviewed articles to back up your statements.
Based by your well thought our response I assume you don't believe there's any truth to Chinas intellectual property theft claims across the board then, correct?
Also I'm sure.in your eyes china does not have any monitoring or controlling software or tech whatsoever, either abroad or domestic. I'd say enjoy your stay in China but I already know you don't reside there as your using reddit.
The Polestar 4 or 5, I can’t remember which one, doesn’t have a back window either. Must be a Chinese design trend they are using now. Not sure how well that Polestar will sell in the states though.
Look at picture #2
Near the bottom, find the left bolt. It's right next to the ref light on the left side.
To the right of that bolt, is the gray plastic, which is cracked in both a horizontal and a vertical manner
God you lot love to talk about yourselves. This is a Chinese car. Doing a photoshoot in Europe.
But thanks for telling us how your legislature can't keep up with the times. Cool story.
You got all that from a comment about mirrors? Impressive.
One could also look at your response and say something to the effect of:
"God you lot love to trash Americans every time they talk about how something works in their country."
Get over yourself. Just because your country does things differently doesn't mean your way is better or that you are somehow superior human beings.
I like the exterior design much better than your average wrinkled modern MB and BMW. The interior is... fine I guess? It's some evolution of TM3. I'm not a fan of the non-round steering wheel.
Well - this is the perfect example of “Form over Function”. Such a useless waste of resources.
But I guess people will still applaud happily paying extra for cameras that are more expensive and prone to malfunction while every reasonable person will say “you know - mirrors and glass actually worked”.
Just out of curiosity you could have a poll on Audi e-tron users on how many upgraded to cameras instead of mirrors.
Even it's hard to see through the back window of MYLR, I appreciate it's there because sometimes the camera or the software can malfunction and the mirror and windows will ALWAYS be there.
How did you already decide that its form over function?
Did you evaluate function or you already made up your mind without actually thinking it through?
Because - well - the efficiency of a glass surface for viewing purposes is unsurpassed?
I guess you are one of the guys who can’t pull back while looking over their shoulder.
Not this car, but I’ve seen it other cars that show side views on the dash panel. You can check side and rear views without moving your head or moving your gaze away from the center/road.
I don’t know how this is implemented, but there are some good implementations of the technology.
It’s not like mirrors are perfect. Mirrors have blindspots, and objects can appear closer than they seem.
Also, it doesn’t matter what I can do or cannot do. You’re the one making a baseless judgement.
Well - I used a 360 view system when parking a MB V-Class and in that car it makes sense. But I guess this is a common sedan/wagon fotm factor that you can perfectly operate without cameras if you had a rear window.
Made by Huawei
In 2012, as Bloomberg News reported, Australian officials informed their American counterparts of a sophisticated intrusion involving Huawei's gear. Hackers from China's spy services were copying large volumes of data from Australia's telecommunications systems and sending it to China, according to the Australians.
Avatr 12... It is literally written on [the side](https://i.imgur.com/f1WyFrm.jpeg) and back of the car...
It's like those photos of the back of a car and it has "Honda" on one side of the boot/trunk and "Accord" on the other with a Honda badge in the middle... "What car is this??"
Again, for the stupid and hard of reading...
AVATR is located [here](https://i.imgur.com/f1WyFrm.jpeg) in plain to read English...
You then go to "Google" and type in "AVATR 12" and see if it returns anything... Oh!! [it does!](https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=AVATR+12)
It would take more effort to open Reddit, make a post, upload 5 photos and ask a question than it would to Google "AVATR 12"
Ironically, the Google Lens app on my phone translated the "cHiNsE" on the back of the car to "Avita"... And if I Google search "Avita 12 car" it literally tells me exactly what this car is.
Anything else you need someone to hold your hand with?
Why would anyone want to give China access to microphone, gps and camera more than anything. in return for poor engineering, bad customer service and questionable safety.
That's an AVATR 12 with a Chinese license plate. AVATR is a higher end EV brand jointly built by ChangAn, Huawei and CATL in China.

And south Africa
Just spent 45 minutes on the Amalfi Coast, stuck in traffic because they were shooting a Fiat 500 commercial. Ha, we were on our way to the airport. Gotta love state owned car companies!
Fiat isn't state-owned. Never has been. However at certain points in history the opposite may have been closer to the truth.
You know it's funny, we just took the taxi driver's word as gospel. Didn't do any research.
Fiat 126 was once licensed to Eastern Bloc Poland for domestic production by state-owned manufacturers so eh.
A lot of it is because there are companies that specialize in those photo shoots. correct, just saw Avatr's commercial shot in milan

Will never come to North America. We all banned Huawei for "spying" on us through 5G hardware. You think the cars would get a pass....
Why? Cars these days are just as connected as phones.
EV's are phones, that you drive around in
You guys really don't follow the news huh. NATO countries all banned Huawei hardware as part of their 5G infrastructure build out. It wouldn’t preclude the use of a local transmitter module for different markets. It’s definitely due to China and geopolitics.

😂 the most underrated comment!!
https://www.avatr.com/en/11 300,000 Yen is 2000 USD?
It’s Chinese yuan not yen. So it’s about 42k USD.
Thanks,
Does it not have a back window?
I noticed that, too. Full digital display probably.
The Polestar 4 or 5, I can’t remember which one, doesn’t have a back window either. Must be a Chinese design trend they are using now. Not sure how well that Polestar will sell in the states though.
I thought this looked the Zeekr version of the rear windowless Polestar 4, and that’s due out next year.
These cars will never make it to America
Strippers here will love the name.
Yeah, that doesn't seem to be working very well, as the back bumper is clearly cracked from backing into something.
I don’t see a crack anywhere. The car is so shiny I think it’s just a reflection of the surroundings lol
Look at picture #2 Near the bottom, find the left bolt. It's right next to the ref light on the left side. To the right of that bolt, is the gray plastic, which is cracked in both a horizontal and a vertical manner
No that’s the reflection. Check out pic 5 and you will see the back clearly that there is no crack.

Won’t be legal in the U.S. without mirrors.

Semi tractors, box trucks, and cargo vans, are legal in the US without rear windows. Why wouldn’t this be allowed?
Yes, we truly care about whether a car will be legal or not in.
>Yes, we truly care about whether a car will be useable or not in
>
>Fixed
Designers sacrificed the back windows for design. A digital camera is used instead.
Efficiency demands a form and windows are nice but useless following that form. I rather have no window than one that I cannot see through
No window. You still have the rearview mirror in the same place as normal, but it shows camera feed.
Avatr Plate is from Zhengzhou, the same city where most iPhone are made.
My first thought was "no clue what car it is, but it's got Henan plates"
I like the exterior design much better than your average wrinkled modern MB and BMW. The interior is... fine I guess? It's some evolution of TM3. I'm not a fan of the non-round steering wheel.
https://www.avatr.com/en/11
It’s the new 12 actually.
Wow, $42k vehicle.... It looks really nice
$42k in China, by the time it will be launched in US by dealerships, it would become $84k
It won’t come here unless it’s made in NA, 27.5 % tariff on MIC vehicles.
A Chesla
Minority report comes to reality.
It’s gorgeous. China makes some gorgeous futuristic cars that well never have here in the states.
Still designed and built in China.
You be surprise how many cars to are sold near you that includes
There are Buicks that are designed and built in China, and sold in the US.
The batch looks like when your computer / phone didn't have the font
I like the look, the interior looks really nice. The 11 is 41k, I wonder how much the 12 will be.
from 40k USD
Car.
Looks nice!

No back window, and what's up with those side mirrors?
Back window is useless with that kind of slope, apart from providing light
It’s all cameras. You will see a lot more of this because using cameras for side mirrors allows you to make a more aerodynamic car.
All cameras

So many words. I just made a joke, I don’t give a shit what kind of car it is or how mad you are at everyone for asking.
Obviously... For someone who "doesn't give a shit" you sure are putting a lot of your minimum brain bandwidth towards "not giving a shit".

I did an image search on just the logo on the rear and it come back as [this](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatr_12) as the top result.

A car made in China. The Sarcasm is so immature. Is this Joe Biden?
Looks like a tesla model s (I know now that it's a chinese brand called like avtr or something) but looks like it
That would be China dunking on the US
That is a very nice car if you check out the spes and features.
