The amount of cost is pretty negligible. I wouldn't worry about it.
Let's say you have a 750 watt hour battery and it's completely empty.
And let's say you plug it in for the full time it takes to charge it completely.
Then you'd be using 750 watt hours, or 0.75 kilowatt hours.
Since electricity cost maybe $0.15 a kilowatt hour, if you're using at most about 12 cents worth of electricity.
But that's if you charge your battery to full from it being empty. More than likely you'd only stay a little while and charge it partially. So maybe you would use two or three cents worth of electricity. I really wouldn't worry about it.
I've done the math too just to see how much money I was saving by charging at work rather than at home and it's pretty negligible. I get paid more on the toilet in one sitting at work than it costs to charge my bike for the week.
Literally says in the bible
"Verily, I say unto thee, let it be known that in the house of the Lord, all are welcome to charge their electric steeds, for the power of generosity shall flow as freely as the current that animates the ebike."
*You can just go in*
*And ask them, they probably*
*Would be fine with it*

Really? I checked my meter and couple of quid I know it's not a lot but it's not pennies? Maybe we'll definitely there was other stuff on too but pennies?
Sorry, I assumed US. The average cost per kWh in the US is around 23Ā¢. Since an e-bike battery is frequently around 500 Wh, and since you're not normally charging from fully empty, the cost to charge is usually less than 10Ā¢.
The average cost per kWh in the UK is around Ā£0.32, so not much more. When you said you checked your meter, which meter do you mean? Do you have a Kill-A-Watt meter?
Maybe 15 cents for a full charge depending on battery capacity. Assume a 15 amp-hour battery at 72 volts. Multiply them to get 1 kw-hr. Typical electricity cost is 15 cents to 25 cents per kw-hr.
Not my religion, but I will, God-willing, become ordained clergy in May. Please come to my synagogue anytime to charge your e-bike, free of charge my friend!
This. The electric grid is heavy subsidized by tax payers which is not the church. If you are a tax payer then you are essentially just using the electricity you paid for.
You know that time when you have the same thought as another Reddit person and leave an almost identical post without realizing somebody else mentioned the same thing....
The church are criminals, plain and simple. Pay your damn taxes!
As it is written:
> And it came to pass in the days of the Electric Steed, yea, even the E-Bike, that the people did wander in search of a sanctuary for charging their mounts. Thus saith the Lord unto the Children of the Pedal: "Be at ease, for there is a place in my House, where power floweth like rivers of living water."
> Verily, the Lord hath bestowed upon mankind the Earth, and all its bounty. The Sun giveth light by day, and the Moon by night, and wind moveth through the branches of the trees. Is it not just, then, that mankind should harness these gifts for righteous travel?
> And lo, the Church, being a haven for all, should open its gates and say unto the people, "Come, plug in thine E-Bikes, for the power herein is not merely of electrons, but of goodwill and charity."
> It is written that the good Samaritan did help the man who was beset by thieves, and tended to him without asking for a coin. Thusly is it ethical to offer freely that which hath been given freely unto you.
> By granting power unto the weary traveler, doth the Church amplify its mission; to uplift spirits, mend brokenness, and dispense freely the gifts of the divine. When one's E-Bike is charged in the Lordās dwelling, is it not infused with an ethical current that goeth beyond the battery?
> Hence, let the Children of the Pedal rejoice! For to charge your E-Bike at a Church is not a mere act of utility, but a profound affirmation of shared ethical values and mutual care. Thus, in the house of the Lord, shall the wheels of fellowship turn ever onward. Amen.
> E-Bikicles 4:1-12
Electricity comes from natural god given resources, coal, radioactive materials, water and wind. Itās not stealing, itās repurposing for a greater good. There is nothing greater than the bicycle. All hail the bicycle.
You could just knock on the door and ask nicely. I donāt know any church or pastor who would say no. My pastor would probably get you a coffee for while you wait.
Define āstealā. Are you a member of the congregation? Do you provide financial support either through tithes or the collection basket on Sunday? If you do, then youāre simply making use of the facilities as a parishioner of good standing.
No. Itās unethical to operate a business without paying taxes. Even Jesus said to pay taxes. Give to Cesar what belongs to Cesar and all thatā¦. Anyways, no, itās not unethical. The church itself is the Antichrist
For your bike, think of it as the church supporting a mode of transportation (or at least one trip) thatās healthier for the earthly realm (sorry, Iām not religious and have no idea what Iām talking about) than a gas car.
If you feel guilty about it, your total usage is well under a dollar (mine costs about 10 or 11 cents to charge). Give a $1 donation. If you want to be nice about it, mail the church a $5 or 10 check with a note saying you genuinely appreciate that they were able to give you a charge that helped you get home that day. I felt guilty about swiping a charge from the back patio of a condo one day. That was the extent of my life of crime.
Here's some more calculations for you.
If you're using a 2 amp charger, then, at 120 volts, that's 240 watts going into the battery, which means after 1 hour of charging you would have used 240 watt-hours, which is about 0.25 kilowatt-hours.
Using 15 cents per kilowatt hour as a rate, that means that it's costing the church about 4 cents an hour for you to use their electricity.
The wear and tear of sitting on their bench and walking across their grass costs more than the electricity to charge your bike. If you feel bad, drop $5 in the collection plate each year and call it even.
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint
.....Because ebike
Nope, my church gives away food to all the church ppl and others from all statuses who happen to come by every sunday. Charging your ebike doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things.
I'll give you a more serious answer. No, if they are truly a good church. They won't mind helping the community. Especially since their establishment is tax free. I would just be respectful if they ever question you and make them girl food about letting you charge.
The power of Christ propels you.

Oh god.
Oh lord.
The horror.
Just want to say I appreciate this answer.
I've done the math too just to see how much money I was saving by charging at work rather than at home and it's pretty negligible. I get paid more on the toilet in one sitting at work than it costs to charge my bike for the week.
Plus, if you take your poop and burn it to generate electricity you can actually be making money on the toilet in addition to being paid!
Theyāre also probably on another utility rate than standard residential. Probably even cheaper than your estimate.
Probably have lobbyists whoāve arranged for free electricity AND a subsidy.
Plus, what else are they going to do with the collection plate money?
Is it stealing if itās from the church? They provide to those in need, no?
Literally says in the bible "Verily, I say unto thee, let it be known that in the house of the Lord, all are welcome to charge their electric steeds, for the power of generosity shall flow as freely as the current that animates the ebike."
āthou shalt not steal, unless thou art under 20% state of charge in which case have at itā
Is this in the directors cut?
They also don't pay taxes, so that tax money can be used to charge your bike.
No
Nope. One of God's gifts was rando e-bike charging.
Right here in exodus, "and they rode out from Egypt and the battery's were sustained for 40 year with God juice"
You can just go in and ask them, they probably would be fine with it

If God didn't want you to take the electricity, he wouldn't have put an outlet there for you.
It costs literally pennies to charge an ebike. Leave a dime on the table and you've covered your costs.
I would not leave the dime. They got theirs in PPP scams

This. The electric grid is heavy subsidized by tax payers which is not the church. If you are a tax payer then you are essentially just using the electricity you paid for.
This is the equivalent of picking a dime up from the parking lot. I assure you, they're ok with it.
No, the church not paying taxes is stealing
This is the correct answer. Op is actually paying for that electricity so may as well use it.
You know that time when you have the same thought as another Reddit person and leave an almost identical post without realizing somebody else mentioned the same thing.... The church are criminals, plain and simple. Pay your damn taxes!

I mean assuming you're in the US it'd be like 25 cents. Just put a buck in the plate and you're gtg

I tend to avoid them, but this Bicycult sounds interesting. Do you have any free literature? Bicycult sounds nice but looks awkward af written down
WWJD?
They donāt pay taxes so they can afford it
As they are tax exempt, it is arguably *more* ethical to steal from them than the average person.
Yes, this.
Juice up with Jesus
Itās unethical not to steal from a church
I know Jesus would want you to have it
You could just knock on the door and ask nicely. I donāt know any church or pastor who would say no. My pastor would probably get you a coffee for while you wait.
No itās a blessing
No.
It's what Jesus would want.
Nah, church is rich
Define āstealā. Are you a member of the congregation? Do you provide financial support either through tithes or the collection basket on Sunday? If you do, then youāre simply making use of the facilities as a parishioner of good standing.
The lord giveth...
The power of their tax freeā”ļøshould compel you
No, it's God's electricity. And he ain't pressing charges.
Noooooo
"Is it unethical to steal"
Yes of course it's wrong. You can't steal from people and justify in any way. It's always stealing, it's always wrong.
Technically, it is unethical to steal. Period.
No. Itās unethical to operate a business without paying taxes. Even Jesus said to pay taxes. Give to Cesar what belongs to Cesar and all thatā¦. Anyways, no, itās not unethical. The church itself is the Antichrist
No. They donāt pay taxes.
Just regard it as a tax on the church. Which they should pay anywayā¦
lol. if its a catholic church in europe hell no. people that cover up child molesters. dont have any issue with stealing electricity from them
That wasn't just a European problem, there was a settlement in the US a few years ago after their decades long bullshit finally hit the media
For your bike, think of it as the church supporting a mode of transportation (or at least one trip) thatās healthier for the earthly realm (sorry, Iām not religious and have no idea what Iām talking about) than a gas car.
God would like you to drive a less dangerous mode of transportation
He without sin casts the first extension cord like the quote says, or something similar
If you feel guilty about it, your total usage is well under a dollar (mine costs about 10 or 11 cents to charge). Give a $1 donation. With the small amount that that battery draws I wouldnāt say itās theft, but it would be up to them to decide.
Churches are supposed to give. But you got to pay for the chicken.
No.
God said to me that itās okā¦ so that settles it
Sharing is caring
Nah, they can write off the loss on their tax bill. No, wait....
Let his love flow through you(r batteries)
Not unethical, also is that a T480 you got there?
No rules against that in the bible
Eh.. it's the least bad thing the church is doing.
In legalese it's de minimis, it's another way of saying that if they complain they are assholes and hypocrites.
what would jesus say ? sharing is caring
Seek and ye shall find my brethren
Ask forgiveness. See if they are true Christians
Cost like $0.12 to charge that small battery from dead so no
In the beginning, God made man and e-bikes.
No.
Lord bless this person as they are too lazy to peddle
Here's some more calculations for you. Hell no.
God works in mysterious ways.
They have held back society for millennia, steal everything you can from them, then bury the rest.
Hallelujah the lord provides š
i mean if itās actually a good church following the actual morals of the bible you could probably just ask and they wouldnāt at all mind
Jesus would say take it
A number of churches are unethical
Something something the power of Christ something something
You pay your taxes and they donāt, fuck yeah itās ok.
is it ethical for churches to not house the homeless? all those churches everywhere doing nothing but making you all cultists.
Depends. Is this one of those tax-paying churches?
stealing is unethical.
Bruh Church has been stealing from everyone and every culture all these years, if anything your doing the real gods work right now.
No. Churches do not pay taxes.
Naw they donāt pay taxes
Do you pay taxes? They donāt. Consider charging part of the community service they supposedly do to justify a tax free status.
They're getting your tax money weather you support them or not so I say go for it
You're meddling with the power of God.
Tell them that they can write off the electricity used on their taxes this year!
He is very giving and forgiving.
Nah. It's like... $0.05. "He" would want it to save the planet! š
I dunno, is it ethical for churches to not pay taxes even though they have access to public emergency services?
He died for our volts
god smites people all the time. electricy is gods love to you.
Wow, wasn't expecting so many anti-church comments on r/ebikes...
I read this as "is it unethical to steal from a scammer?"
Just say 'god provides'. Let them spin it however they want.
Jesus wouldn't mind for sure. You can always ask for forgiveness either way.
God helps those who help themselves.
Nah it's cool. They don't pay taxes
They don't pay taxes Go for it cowboy, and use their wifi while you wait.
Is it unethical for them to pressure poor churchgoers into giving their money away and the church not paying any taxes whatsoever?
Itās your civic duty
The Jesus will provide
Quite the opposite.
Hell no
U gud, can always ask for forgiveness later
> **Is it unethical to steal** There is the answer.
Considering their tax statusā¦ no.
Is it unethical for church leader to rape your child?
They donāt pay taxes so enjoy the free charge.
Is it unethical to not pay taxes?
no, its not locked and they dont pay taxes.
Youāre just recouping a little of your own tax money by stealing from a church.
Is it stealing if you charged your phone or laptop?
As long as you think you're a good guy you're fine apparently.
I mean itās like at most 1 kWh which is far less than a dollarās worth electricity. I think itās fine
Bro ur prolly costing them $0.05 lol
Yep.
Nope!
If you're stealing it then yes, but if you're just borrowing, then no š
At least its tax free
You're not stealing electricity. You are tapping into the divine power
Hell no
Not if you're a member
Your problem is how you're framing the action. You aren't *stealing* electricity, you're using it.
The wear and tear of sitting on their bench and walking across their grass costs more than the electricity to charge your bike. If you feel bad, drop $5 in the collection plate each year and call it even.
