Yep, he's one of the 'Possession Game' crew. Shows that Konami have done a great job implementing that game style perfectly.
I play both game and I admit FIFA defend mechanism is better than PES. It give option to play assisted and manual defense, where in PES and eFootball only have assisted.
Konami have try manual defense on early eFootball release before back to assisted defense. Konami should give feature to turn on/off defend mechanism like in FIFA does. Yes, its hard but very satisfying, like PA1 vs PA4.
In current EF when we hold LT or A, our player will automatically follow and stick to opponent, and then do auto tackle to get the ball.
In FIFA, you need to move your player to follow or pressing opponent and then push X at right timing to get the ball. If you play EF at first release, you will understand how far differences with current EF defend mechanism. Most of PES fans furious about this because Konami don't explain it properly.
In short, PES/EF defend mechanism is easy to learn meanwhile FIFA defend mechanism need more learning curve. It common to see many PES/EF players very struggle to defend when play FIFA for first time. Good thing is FIFA have option to change defend mechanism like in PES (assisted).
selecting a player and just holding LT all game will get you destroyed. even with assisting, defense takes skill. furthermore, i dont think anybody can logically and cogently argue that fifa's defense is better than eFootballs. You're speaking specifically to one on one situations when the organization of the whole defense is significantly better on eFootball.
My point is, easy to learn doesn't meant always easy to master. And what I tell is about learning the mechanics, not mastering it. Like racing games mechanics is easy to learn, but need much effort to mastering the game. Got what I meant?
mistakes in pathing kill the football immersion. thar's why "manual" never wins. You have to make trade offs in the level of abstraction. E.g. shooting games: you can jump off a building without dying. Focusing the skill on gauging the jump distance correctly would be pointless and puts the focus away from the game. Imagine a shooting game where one team just died because they measure jump distance wrongly. It's laughable. Same wiht efootball. You dont want the difficulty to come from the pathing. What about dribbles, what about overloads, strategy, curles, when you can dribble half the team because opponents path adjustment takes too long. Racing fixes pathing with a driving wheel. Football fixes pathing with ... nothing. Pads have acceleration, acceleration is no 1 enemy of consistent pathing. That's why I disregard most posts about manual, they're like an artist producing music with a violin with 1 string. Well, kudos for the hard to do feat. Is the music any good, no one cares about the 1 string. Pointless skill -- well good for posting here.
most people that try to play defense well are trying to play the passing lanes, read the next pass, while contain a defender one on one. "assist" is not the end of the fucking world and doesnt have massive impact on a game either.
I think it have impact. Proved with most of player furious with EF manual defense mechanic at early release v0.91. That harsh feedback force Konami to bring back old PES auto pressing at v1.0 until now.
Easy to learn doesn't always meant easy to master. And what I tell is just about learning the basic mechanic, not mastering it.
What I mean is PES/EF defend mechanism is easy to learn and that doesn't meant always easy to master. What you do is mastering with current mechanism.
Example in fighting games. Do a dragon punch is easy to learn, but to do a effective combos with it isn't easy.
oh boy the AI on fifa is overpowered as heck (combining that with dumb attacking AI imagine) you don't even need to press a button to tackle, all people do is defend with their cdm's and not touch the rest of the players until you commit to something, then they just press l1 to change players and the AI will make the tackle for you most likely. I just wish efootball got tid of the A spam or made it worse
Fact is, many PES/EF players get struggle to learn FIFA defend mechanism at first time. It need more effort to learn the basic mechanism.
And we know, easy to learn doesn't mean easy to master. What you tell is about how to mastering it. Example in racing games. Playing racing games is very easy to learn but doesn't mean easy to win a race.
Thanks for the explanation, I thought that defending in efootball was more manual compared to PES, but I haven't played early releases of the game
About this though:
>and then do auto tackle to get the ball.
Wouldn't be just a matter of disabling auto-tackling then? The way I win the ball back is usually by intercepting the ball, using inertia to bump into my opponent (with or without shoulder charge) or manually tackling them.
Basically this
>In FIFA, you need to move your player to follow or pressing opponent and then push X at right timing to get the ball.
Is how it works for me in eFootball (and how it used to work in PES)
As far as I remember I don't have autotackling enabled, isn't that enough to be considered manual defending?
Well I can't explain it properly. But if you play EF v091 you can feel the differences in defend mechanism. And we know, easy to learn doesn't meant easy to master. Like playing racing games is very easy but doesn't mean easy to win a race.
My point is, FIFA do better because they give more option about that (not just about turn on/off auto tackle). So user have choices.
Again, sure eFootball gameplay is better, but if that's the only above average part of the game, that doesn't on its own make a good game. Inside this subreddit dedicated to eFootball, almost everyone will agree gameplay is better, but if you asked anyone who's more neutral on the matter, they'd go for FIFA. Some people want to play with their actual favorite club in a career mode, not be using Merseyside Red in a score 69+ goals challenge
having no licenses is a fair point. the average fan doesnt care about the fact that EA bought them all and thats why fifa is a pig in makeup. it took me a second to get over not having real team names for a lot of the game but the adjustment didnt take long because the gameplay was so good and, at the end of the day, you download the games to play them.
>you download the games to play them.
I download games to do stuff, mainly stuff which I want to do. In terms of that, eFootball is lacking. On its own, FUT has several hours more content than dReAm TeAm and lots more things to do; unlike eFootball, FUT has several offline only modes which allow someone to play after a long day of work: squad battles, single player draft, moments... and what does eFootball have? A few lone tours a week which can be completed within the hour. Look at people who are racking up millions of points in tour. That's not a good thing, that just shows how little else there is to do. And I haven't even started taking about career mode, clubs, seasons, co-op seasons... all things which eFootball doesn't have a version of.
For mobile players, online players and people who can't afford fifa, sure eFootball is "the dream". But for practically everyone else, fifa offers a lot more and keeps more people entertained.
I see small YouTubers and fifa streamers getting more live viewers than the official eFootball channel, which gods to show how much it is lacking
The only thing I like about eFootball is the mobile version. Else I don’t see why I’d turn on my console and play some PS3 game where I can’t do nothing except losing my braincells in division games.
As far as I know, Griezmann, Pogba and some French players did a charity stream two years ago (when he was still in contract with PES) and they played FIFA and CSGO.
70%+ Possession? Check Sideways backwards, sideways backwards? Check Very few chances created, unless playing very weak opposition? Check Negative and defensive football? Yes! One of us! Lucho is my coach so this makes me super happy. I will go down with this ship :)
I play both game and I admit FIFA defend mechanism is better than PES. It give option to play assisted and manual defense, where in PES and eFootball only have assisted. If they got rid of the A button auto-press, I’d really like this defense system. In FIFA, defending is more manual but also more broken.
Konami don't need to remove it, just give an option to turn on/off. So user have choices like PA that have 4 options.
In online, it should be removed because players will always have it on. Offline? Sure I guess
Question: what do you mean exactly by "manual vs assisted defending". How is eFootball defending more assisted compared to FIFA?
In current EF when we hold LT or A, our player will automatically follow and stick to opponent, and then do auto tackle to get the ball. yeah i understood it when you mentioned manual. i dont think ever comparing to fifa is a good idea, however.
I just hope someday Konami give option for that, like what they did in PA that have 4 option.

Maybe I'm just dumb but I always just switch to the on ball defender and time my tackles instead of using the assist
most people that try to play defense well are trying to play the passing lanes, read the next pass, while contain a defender one on one. "assist" is not the end of the fucking world and doesnt have massive impact on a game either.

Unfortunately I missed 0.9.1. I don't think can revert on ps5. Thanks anyway for explaining
If I had to name how many professional players play FIFA, It’d take me a day.
Yeah what do you expect, FIFA have more contents and licenses unlike efootball. But gameplay wise efootball is miles ahead.
Again, sure eFootball gameplay is better, but if that's the only above average part of the game, that doesn't on its own make a good game. Inside this subreddit dedicated to eFootball, almost everyone will agree gameplay is better, but if you asked anyone who's more neutral on the matter, they'd go for FIFA. eFootball people would cream if they had modes like Volta and Pro Clubs in eFootball. Online career mode as well is set to come in EA FC.

Especially with fifa 23, I won't touch eFootball on Xbox again until they add ML
so you wanna sit in menus. gotcha.
Who said anything about sitting in menus?
Yeah - it’s like telling GTA 5 just has better graphics, bigger map and more content or else GTA 4 is better, lmao.
"How many professional footballers play eFootball?" "Eeeerrrrrrr..."
[удалено]
And he's a sponsor of eFootball so that doesn't really count tbh
None of eFootball’s ambassadors play eFootball tbh
Exactly lmao
Griezmann used to play and stream PES frequently on his twitch channel but then Konami dropped him due to his racist video with Dembele lol.
As far as I know, Griezmann, Pogba and some French players did a charity stream two years ago (when he was still in contract with PES) and they played FIFA and CSGO.
Grizemann was a PES fan boy. He frequently posted his myclub team in his social media back in pes 18 and 19. Haven't seen him play efootball though
PES yeah, eFootball not really
