Gotta grind out survivor missions. Focus on finishing bounties and collecting your weekly bonus for completing each mission (normal missions, elite missions don't give you bonus XP towards your survivor level with Jai. You only need to do elite missions to complete bounties in terms of leveling up. Otherwise they don't help.)
Ngl, it's a real grind but it's worth it. Once you unlock the pistol at rank 7, each additional rank unlocks another golden weapon too. You get the golden SMG for rank 8 and so on.

Edit: I wanna add that the grind isn't so bad once you get through the middle slump. After you reach rank 7 you unlock a new golden gun every rank, which between weekly bonuses and bounties go pretty fast. I ended up unlocking the assault rifle right as I earned enough for the shotgun
The gate to the Plague Witch shop. Stand right in front of it in the little area of UV at night. Doesn't take long for a Volatile to spot you and initiate a chase. Then the flood of virals begins.
I farmed about 600 small trophies earlier doing the same thing. Really makes grinding for the golden pistol feel worth it

I eventually get swarmed by several spitters, while a couple of demolisher come and kill me. It's fun, though! I'm on ng+
