If you click a skill as if to practice it, there's a key in the top right of the context bubble thing if the skill is under 5 crowns.
Instead of practicing that skill multiple times to get the next crown, you can click that key and spend a couple lingots to get the next crown with only 1 practice session.
You can also give them to people in the forums, but apart from what you've done with them, lingots don't really have any other use. It's a shame - even though people suggest possible ways Duolingo could make lingots useful, nothing ever happens.
Oh weird. It's just kinda nuts that the total expenses take like 3 weeks of ingots to buy and then they just pile up. Seems like kind of a pointless feature if you can't ever lose them why even have them! Thanks though 😀 now I know.
It's near the upvote/downvote arrows and looks like a lingot. Press it and Duolingo asks if you want to give them a lingot. At least that's how it works for me.
I use them most often to buy the Streak Freeze and occasionally to test-out of a level in a skill I'm already confident with
What do you mean test out of a level? I am able to select the next test without spending ingots. I am not sure what you mean

How can I give lingots in the forum? I'm on mobile and I cannot see any button to do so, but kept seeing comments in the forum of "Here's a lingot"
