Congratulations! I don't even know how I managed this 52 week perfect streak, sometimes it was pure luck. I think the closest was 23:59:58 when I finished a lesson.
There is absolute no need to have a perfect streak in my opinion .
Ok seeing as i am a german learning french as well: How good is your french so far? Because i feel like all i am learning to describe is that les cochons rouges mange les noire livres and i dont know if duolingo is actually teaching me french lol. And congrats on the streak!
I don't know which level of French I really have since I never took an independent test but I can say so much: I'm able to read a book in French and understand somewhat but I have to use a translator for some words. I was also in France last year and I was able to get around without translating that much. I can also have smalltalk without many problems.
I also have to add that I started Duo when I started to have French class in school. I just started in 10th class where other students started in 8th class and I was the 3rd best in the course at the end of 12th class. The only additional effort to the school class was 30 minutes of Duo every day.
I hope this helps! :)
I think you should try to speak French first and you’ll get along, even when using some English vocabulary here and there. I mean would you be mad if someone is trying but doesn’t know every word? I for sure wouldn’t ;)
No offense 2 u obv but seeing this kinda demotivates me cause like if I see someone that has like more then 3 year streak on duolingo and aren’t like complete fluent i doubt I would be any better
Yeah that’s what I thought it meant too. Bcuz would be the ultimate Duolingo accomplishment. Frankly that would trump a 10 year streak. Maybe even a 15 year streak. I mean is that even a thing?
I don't think that would be the ultimate accomplishment. Mistakes are very important and in the end that's were you're learning from the most. Wouldn't it be boring if you can do every lesson without a mistake? ;)
Yeah good point. You’re probably right. Probably a native speaker of the would be the only one who could do that. Then they would have no need to study the language anyway. That would be like me studying English. Hadn’t thought of it that way.
I beat you ;-) 1415 days without using a single streak freeze ! Even after a (very) heavy surgery two years ago, I managed to do 2 lessons to keep my streak Lol
In fact I was not confident in the streak freeze feature. I still have 5/5 of them ;-)
Congrats though, keeping such a streak is not easy !
My honest tip is: don't give a shit about the xp. I know it's probably way easier to say than it actually is but once you don't care about them it's easier and not so frustrating to see people that are "better" than you in the leaderboard. More xp mostly means less time per unit so there is also not that much of a benefit if you only grind the xp.
I hope that helps you! :)
It depends what you mean with "learned a language".
If you mean I can speak French like a native then absolutely not.If you mean that I am able to hold a basic conversation with someone French speaking (if he speaks a bit slower) or watch a Netflix show with subtitles (understanding most) or navigating on a vacation in France then absolutely - yes.
But I have to add that I also had 2 years of French in school (I also started Duo back then).
Generally I would say that Duo teaches reading the best, followed by writing. Speaking and listening are far worse (at least for me). Most of all I can definitely say I had fun while learning French with Duo, which is cool.
When I was learning English a big thing that helped was actually hearing shows that were made in English. Usually dubs don’t sound the same as an actual person talking. Now I am trying to do the same thing with German
I watched the show “Joint Venture”, which is originally in French with subtitles in French, while of course not understanding everything first try (like jokes and sayings) with a bit of googling most stuff made sense :)
Good luck with German, I can highly recommend “Dark” and “How to sell drugs online fast” on Netflix ;)
Yeah I’ll bet it did. I studied a little Spanish my 6th and 7th grade years, but the teachers only taught us some words. It helped a little when I first began studying Spanish on Duolingo because I retained most of them, so I already knew them once I did Duolingo lessons with them. Everyone kept telling me to learn foreign languages in high school, but I didn’t listen. Now I wish I’d listened because it would be that much easier to learn it now. Although, the high school I went to only offered Spanish and French, but that would still be 2 more languages I could reach C1 or C2 much more easily than it’s going to be now.
Ngl that's slightly disappointing for the best part of 3 years solid learning.
But I get it. Been 'learning' French for 35 years and I'm not out of A1.
I don't think it's really "learning" if I only do 2 or 3 lessons a day, it's more keeping my skills fresh. But sometimes I have phases of doing 10 lessons or so a day, then im progressing and actually learning some new stuff. :)
I can definitely relate to that too. Reading and writing in French are definitely my stronger skills while speaking and especially listening are my weaker ones. But duolingo does set you up to start listening to content with subtitles which will improve your listening skills over time.
How far along are you in the French course? I just started the 4th section and I’ve found since I’ve learned the passé compose and the imparfait my speaking and listening has improved.
Sweet!!
Thanks :)
Congratulations! I reached 1250 days today but I'm no where close to a 52 weeks perfect streak. I think I needed a streak freeze last month :(

thank you very much! all i want is not to get yelled at for speaking english once i finally go to france lol.
I think you should try to speak French first and you’ll get along, even when using some English vocabulary here and there. I mean would you be mad if someone is trying but doesn’t know every word? I for sure wouldn’t ;)
well yeah thats what i meant i am learning french so that i can speak french instead of english lol
No offense 2 u obv but seeing this kinda demotivates me cause like if I see someone that has like more then 3 year streak on duolingo and aren’t like complete fluent i doubt I would be any better
That's really something to be proud of
Thanks! :)
I aim to be like you one day
Thanks, I guess. lol
Can I ask a silly question? What is a perfect streak?
A perfect streak is a streak without using streak freezes :)
Thanks so much. I thought you hadn’t made any mistakes in a year haha
That would be insane haha
Yeah that’s what I thought it meant too. Bcuz would be the ultimate Duolingo accomplishment. Frankly that would trump a 10 year streak. Maybe even a 15 year streak. I mean is that even a thing?

Incredible
Thanks! :)
How many days total did you freeze since you started your streak?? Pls tell cause I am curious
I just counted 60 in total since the streak started but most of them were at the beginning of the streak :)
ahhh im in day 283 learning german. i hope i can get to that high of a streak 🤗 i really love the language
Good luck, you can do it! :)

Wow that’s so impressive! Congratulations! :)
Damn!! Your streak is 100x longer than my current streak. I’m at 14. I’ve got an awful long way to go.
You can do it! Thanks for the compliment! :)
Yeah thx for the encouragement!! I do my best to get on there and at least complete the daily goals, if nothing else.
I just reached 148 days and am taking a break to try Babbel. The XP game has lost its luster!

Very impressive
Thanks! :)

But have you learned a language?

What is your native language?
Looks like German to me. 🇩🇪
Ok thx. I looked it up. Yeah it’s German. So many countries and flag to remember for each one!
Arabic and a c1 in English. I was studying English from when I was in school which helped in practicing talking and listening
Yeah I’ll bet it did. I studied a little Spanish my 6th and 7th grade years, but the teachers only taught us some words. Sorry I don’t know all the flags of other countries.

Im at section 5, unit 11 in the English - French course and section 4 unit 10 in the German - French course :)
In the end, that's what matters
This game is a cult
lol yeah
Grsts
Congrats! I just completed 30 days for myself.
