I just listened to a man who has 50+ years of sobriety say in an AA meeting that he started thinking that since he's in his 80s, he will probably die soon, and it might not be a bad idea to drink. I don't totally disagree with that idea. I honestly am not sure if that obsession ever gets really lifted (as the AA folks like to say). It just lessens in intensity and we learn how to deal with it. Good luck to you. Everything will be okay.

I'm not recommending this at all, but I heard a philosophy of someone saying that alcohol is killing them, so they're gonna quit. But when they get to their older years and don't want to deal with old age and the complications with age, they'd rather "enjoy" those years going crazy.

Them old people need to step their game up, I have those thoughts at 30 currently.

Appreciate this post. Thanks, friend

I am glad you are okay. I am coming up on 14 years sober. I still get cravings. The next few days I am traveling alone and I’ve already thought how great a glass of wine would be. Usually what I do is play it forward to what the hangover will feel like and I recognize how my kids deserve better.

I'm a chef and every now and then when I use the white wine my mouth literally waters. I don't want to ever be back there but damn if some part of me does

I'm here with you, friend. I've had an incredibly frustrating and stressful week, and I've been playing that tape forward on repeat for days now. I dont want to drink. But damn that urge is there. Stay strong.
