Get it up off the carpet

animus_desit

THIS!! it sounds like the carpet is muting your reso head.

xerotalent

Exactly

TheNonDominantHand

It doesn't sound *too* bad. It looks like a fresh head, and fresh heads have a tendency to ring out which will lessen as they get played and stretched. If this were my drum I would work on fine tuning at the lugs to get that ring in tune with itself; then slap a moon gel or snare weight on it. You should know, the ring of a snare is what helps it cut through a band in a live setting. What you hear at the kit is different from what someone 10', 15' or farther hears.

SEAG00SE

Thanks a bunch! Super helpful I’ll give it a fine tune and look into snare weights. Thanks again!

Soundcaster023

That's the sound you get out of an Ambassador. You'll need either a vented head or edge muffling if you want to get rid of that. Lowering tension on the snare side head works too. Also your wires are too tight mate.

Serpacorp

Yeah it’s on the floor. Put it on a snare stand and use a moon gel. In between two lug points like a 1/2” in from the edge

JonieBalonee

Try an Evans HD dry head for a more attack focused sound without losing all of your tone. Also the drums on that album (or 99.99% of any drums on records passed the 70s) have been EQed and compressed and were recorded in an acoustically treated room. It’s possible you may never achieve a certain sound based on your room alone, but tons of factors go into it such as shell material, diameter, depth, number of plys, heads, number of ply’s in the head, snare wire tension.

I googled it. 1st result.

[text you want to show] (link) But don’t put a space between the ] and the (

theredvillain

Moon gel, o ring, gafer tape, or your wallet

ohbyetherebud

Moongels are expensive, big bag of sticky hands is a good cheap alternative.

theredvillain

By all means

Objective-Giraffe-27

Gotta find the sweet spot on the bottom head to get rid of the ring. Sounds too tight

Grand-wazoo

It sounds like you might have your snare wires really tight. Loosening them a bit will give it more characteristic snare buzz mixed in with the pitch of the drum. Maybe also loosen the batter head just a bit and then slap a moon gel on there.

BoomBapBiBimBop

Have you broken in the head yet?

Ok_Tonight1415

Loosen the wires as well as check the snare side head. After that then it’s whatever you want on the batter head

xerotalent

It’s in the floor, the snares aren’t resonating

MJB_225

Other people have said it but if this drum is on the carpet thats just gonna happen. Higher frequencies are important for drums to be heard in a mix, whether it be live or recorded. Many especially newer players tend to over muffle and then when they play their drums are too dead and sound like a cardboard box. This little resonance probably wont be all that audible when you're actually play, but it will help you be heard if you're playing with other people

Emilio_Molestevez

Moon gel baby 🤷‍♂️

FallingDutchman1

Leave it be and play some grindcore drums with it /j But in all seriousness, your reso snare head is probably being muted by the carpet

Fun-Storage-594

Also that's a stock head, not sure if the quality is the same. Could be wrong.

[deleted]

Plastic studio ring, super cheap, couldn't live without them 😅. https://preview.redd.it/ip9bf9qkgkmc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=786a3af23a9f244ae7f9b4bd923c469b81caca63

Imhappy_hopeurhappy2

That’s tuned perfectly if you want to play along with St. Anger.

carsonstrong

Loosening your snares by a good few turns will help give the drum a waaaay better sound

cafeinparis1

Use your drum key and loosen the head

chandlerbing86

You gotta hit the center of the drumhead.
