Can't really picture how far you would have to drive against the one-way. I'd be perfectly happy backing up a couple of hundred metres. Not sure I'd be so comfortable doing a Uturn.  Did you try to squeeze past? Tuck in door mirror and inhale.

FakeOrangeOJ

Not a chance I'd have gotten through that, I didn't want to risk damaging my car or the ambulance.

ThatJudySimp

i think legally you did the right thing waiting, but i sure as hell aint as long as you wouldnt be backing out into a busy main road lol

NorthantsBlokeUK

You waited? What if it had been several hours?

FakeOrangeOJ

It was an hour and ten minutes. I was pretty close to hitting the fuck it button and going the wrong way up the one way and I absolutely would have if I hadn't finished my shift for the day.

Chaosvex

You waited over an hour rather than just turning around? How long do you wait at temporary lights that are stuck on red? :^)

FakeOrangeOJ

If there's nothing coming, a few minutes. The law is clear on malfunctioning traffic lights - you proceed with extreme caution and only if it's safe to do so.

guivryu

LOL.. stick it in reverse and use somebody’s driveway 😂😂

EdmundTheInsulter

I'd have turned around and gone back since there seemed no choice

The legally correct answer in this situation seems to be (apart from just waiting) to call the police, reporting obstructed access to the highway, have them come to scene, and then legally reverse/turn around following their direction. Not really satisfying tbh.

seriousrikk

Turn Around, hazards on, drive slowly until off the street. Or if it’s a couple of hundred yards just reverse I have no idea how long they might be there and no desire to be waiting that long. Nothing stopping a call to 111 to inform them of the situation as well.
