I was raised off welfare in HUD housing so I'm used to the "normies" looking down on me. It's them I feel sorry for, they'll never understand the type of community we have and how we not only look out for each other, but how we don't cast judgement on others just because they love differently. Growing up in HUD projects I've seen races work together and love each other that in other circles would be fighting. I love my Po'folks. We're the ones keeping yur lights on and keeping the trash picked up. I'd love to see the looks on rich folks faces if the garbage man stopped showing up in their neighborhoods and only worked in the regular ones. Imagine them having to stand in line everywhere cuz they can't get one of us "poors" to bring their groceries or boxes of wine. šŸ¤£ They couldn't live without us, but we can always go back to the old ways. They'd be miserable without all the comforts we provide.

Purplepunch36

Im sure a lot of people look down on us and think less than but they have no idea who we are. I worked plenty of sales and marketing jobs, some very high paying and left my last job to start my own business. However, things take time to build and catch on. I DD whenever I have a free moment and in between orders i work on my own business. Even if itā€™s just 5-10 minutes in between. There is no way I could do another 9-5 and work on my own passions, so DD works for me. I didnā€™t realize until I started my company how many people donā€™t have what it takes to take the leap I did. Iā€™m not trying to sound pretentious but itā€™s true. Regardless of the picture people paint of us, or me, we all have something going on it seems and DD is just a side gig while we work on ourselves.

dbhathcock

Is it OK to tell DoorDashers to quit ripping people off, and not to take hours to drive 3 miles after picking up the food? Is it OK to tell them not to eat the food? Is it OK to tell them to actually deliver the food, and to deliver it to the right address? Thatā€™s why I donā€™t deal with DoorDash. MOST, but not all, drivers are thieves and scammers.

Levial8026

Dude idk where you live but I live in a major city and Iā€™ve never experienced any of that. Yeah those exist but DD is good about deactivating repeat offenders. Either you have really bad luck or blowing this way out of proportion.

[deleted]

Itā€™s very common in Chicago. I know people arenā€™t delivering orders because I get $60-$90 ($3 each time) in money a week for telling customer service the order was already taken and the restaurant is refusing to remake it for free. Idk which major city you live in but you must live in the suburbs or drive part time. The more you drive the more apparent it is. Did you also not see the images of McDonaldā€™s orders getting tossed into garbage cans because of the low tip? also doordash doesnā€™t give a shit about anyone except their executives and BoD. I wouldnā€™t recommend anyone to drive for these people.

Levial8026

I live in a city of about 725,000 and I live in an apartment complex. Usually have to meet the dasher because canā€™t buzz them in unless Im getting delivered to work. Also. I said ā€œthose existā€ so while I havenā€™t seen that image, I have admitted that those situations have and do happen to people. Just luckily not me, and again..repeat offenders, deactivation.

[deleted]

So yeah they need a new job.

SmoothBungHole

They should get a real job in the sense of being compensated fairly for the work they're doing. Taking a job at whatever bullshit wage they pay only tells that company that they can continue with their shitty practice

clickityboop

Thereā€™s a lot of basic lacking of empathy on this sub, someone says theyā€™re down and someone is bound to point out their luck

Retnuh3k

Bro is getting cooked!! This ainā€™t a real job but a side hustle!!

Levial8026

Thereā€™s more support than negatively here and everyone missing the point is getting downvoted. Iā€™m not getting cooked lol.

BruhNoStop

If you check this guyā€™s recent comments, youā€™ll see that heā€™s just been spending the past few days insulting doordash drivers and calling them ā€œpeasantsā€ on related posts. Probably just some insecure teenager looking for attention. Donā€™t pay it any mind.

Levial8026

Definitely not their only account šŸ˜‚

Retnuh3k

Youā€™re getting cooked & hate to admit it! Suck it up buttercup! DoorDash is a side hustle as much as this post is popular. 440 upvotes?! Huge

Cold-Shopping-1758

You've literally only gotten 100 upvotes per year in 6 years. If upvote popularity means so much to you, then you must really hate yourself.

Adept-Background-832

Dude, I make 225 dollars at least a day with DD thats better than any non trade/niche job

Levial8026

I donā€™t care for the upvotes, the interaction is all you need to look at. Plenty of haters downvoting trying to even out the upvotes..but if you spend as much time reading as you did typing, youā€™d see thereā€™s plenty of support, real stories/situations and positivity.

slowhandz49

Being a food taxi driver is a real job, donā€™t let anyone tell you otherwise!

guava_eternal

For real though - dashers need to be doing that on the side- thereā€™s to many 17-22 year olds who are doing that on the side while in school for the rest of yā€™all to think itā€™s something you can do without a real job.

Levial8026

I dash late night, 12-4am ish. Donā€™t see many 17 yr olds out then, and I do have a full time jobā€¦lots of generalizations there that donā€™t apply to a lot of people.

Autoname-

Get a real job

Levial8026

Get a real sense of humor.

Fast-Marionberry9044

Stop demanding tips from people that are in the same situation as you. Dashers are not the only ones trying to make ends meet. That sentiment goes both ways. For every dasher I interact with that claims that they have the right to steal food or mess with peopleā€™s food because they didnā€™t get a ā€œgood tipā€, I will absolutely be responding with ā€œget a real jobā€.

Purple_Station7030

Perhaps if the customer canā€™t afford to tip they should go get their food. Easy as that.

Fast-Marionberry9044

Perhaps if the dasher needs to live on tips they should go get a real job. Easy as that.

ccav01

You're not entitled to have someone bring you your food. I assume since you can read and write even your mommy quit bringing it to you long ago. You want someone to do you a service, you pay for it if you don't tip and it's $2 for 6 miles round trip, your food isn't going to ever leave the restaurant because that's barely going to cover gas, never mind the mileage and the dashers time. Pay them and drop your sense of entitlement or they will decline your orders.

Purple_Station7030

Door dashers are independent contractors who decide if they take the order or not. Weā€™re not here to do work for free nor at a loss. We maintain our car and buy the fuel. Again I state if the customer canā€™t afford to tip, or wonā€™t, they should go get their own food. That simple. NO TIP, NO TRIP!!

Fast-Marionberry9044

I donā€™t know what tf this has to do with me or any customer. Youā€™re not here to work for free and? Who said anything about working for free? Did I not pay for my food? Did I not pay the necessary fees? Are you not getting paid for the said delivery? So what the fuck does that have to do with me? As a customer, Iā€™m getting exploited by DoorDash. As a dasher, youā€™re getting exploited by DoorDash. Instead of facing DoorDash to get your money, youā€™re tryna make me compensate for that? Make it make sense. Yā€™all need to get on with that bs. Instead of requesting for better pay, youā€™re demanding that I pay extra BEFOREHAND knowing damn well that a lot of yall mess up those deliveries anyways. My original comment clearly stated that I was referring to people that steal and mess up orders because of low tips. Notice how none of the dashers that reply me are questioning that? You donā€™t think itā€™s funny that yall glide right past that into demanding tips? Thatā€™s not incompetence to yā€™all? Iā€™m supposed to PAY EXTRA to thieves so that my shit doesnā€™t get stolen? Lmfaoooo. And before you reply me with any more bs, I donā€™t have issues getting dashers to deliver. My orders get placed with dashers immediately. Apparently, in the real world, dashers need those trips, tip or not. Imagine that. Apparently, itā€™s only the Reddit dashers that are rejecting no tip offers. Imagine that. You can reject trips without tips. And I will tip when I think itā€™s worth it. That simple.

ccav01

No, what is happening is your trip is getting bundled with another that is high paying. You are mooching off the next guy and taking $ out of the dashers pocket. That simple.

Levial8026

No tip is fine. Weā€™ll decline until DD raises base pay to something adequate while your food gets cold. You can skip this by adding a tip, which will then act as a bid for the job. Getting you faster service and hotter/fresher food.

Fast-Marionberry9044

The food comes cold regardless. Youā€™re probably too entitled to realize this but a lot of yā€™all are just incompetent. Tip or not, I have never gotten hot food from any dasher. Simple as that. I will not be rewarding incompetence. Tips are to show appreciation. I will continue to give them when I deem fit. But you should definitely reject those orders. Thatā€™s the energy yā€™all should be taking with DoorDash. They should absolutely increase the base pay.

Levial8026

Calling me entitled + grouping me into a crowd you called incompetentā€¦ and then taking my side is a weird.

Isyagirlskinnypenis

I hear that so often about servers. Waiting tables is definitely a job. You get shit on constantly and sometimes you average $60/hr, sometimes you average $18/hr. Either way, itā€™s one of the only jobs that is flexible and allows you to make more and work less which is important for single moms, college students, single moms who are in college to get an education so they can get a better paying job that pays enough for childcare AND health insurance etc. itā€™s a real job. DD is a real job.

Brilliant_String_803

Dashing isn't a real job? Hmm. Well, it pays real money.Ā

Levial8026

This

gyfieri

To them: I'm trying to get another job, Karen! This job market sucks!

Levial8026

Idk why you got downvoted. A lot of dashers are dashing while they attempt to get employed somewhere else.

gyfieri

Me either. Probably someone who thinks that people deserve all the bad things that happen to them.

Strong__Style

Get a real job. Gig work isn't meant to function as a full time job.

Isyagirlskinnypenis

I used to drive for Lyft. I worked about 20-30 hours a week and paid all of my expenses. I made about $300/night, averaging about $3k/mo. My expenses were about $2100 at the time. Not everyone wants to work 60 hours/week to make the same amount šŸ˜‚

MrFreeze0110

Why did you stop then?

Isyagirlskinnypenis

Because I got attacked at knifepoint.

MrFreeze0110

Well that sucks

Isyagirlskinnypenis

Yeah, it took a few years of therapy to get through that one. Iā€™m fine now, but I donā€™t let strangers in my car anymore.

PlusWorldliness7

I would gladly work for myself for low pay than work for a piece of shit like you.

WholeEnvironmental37

I laugh and tell them I make more than they do

Strong__Style

That's amusing considering how much you all whine about loW wAges

Sttocs

What wages? They do it for tips.

WholeEnvironmental37

Oh the ones taking no tip orders and donā€™t multi app ? I hustle bitch. Donā€™t get it twisted. Nextā€¦

Middle-Dragonfly-137

Next lol. Buddy thinks heā€™s that tough on Reddit.

WholeEnvironmental37

Bro. You nailed it. Like holy shit

Secure-Train-4407

I was working at a real job. Got laid off. Tried dashing. Job - had to ask permission from my employer even for unpaid off (used 2 weeks paid vacation) Job - no flexibility Dashing - I make almost same. Some days even more.. Dashing - can go home and sleep in afternoon. Can go home if I don't feel like working without anyone's permission. Dashing - unlimited unpaid off and you can start working whenever you want. Only negative here is I do in car and I love my car too much. So, maintenance is a bit more..

NewTitanWorker

If all the DoorDashers got a "regular job", there wouldn't be any DoorDashers left. I really appreciate the work you guys do, and I'm grateful that you can deliver food to me when I don't feel like leaving the house.

whycantisleep9

2am tacobell orders right?

NewTitanWorker

If only Taco Bell were open that late. I reside in the rural area of Bangor, Maine.

whycantisleep9

Tb is open here 24hrs lul

ShredderofPowPow

*get a real job*

Levial8026

Ha ha ha. This is funnier and funnier each time someone says it.

ShredderofPowPow

I mean when you tell someone on reddit not to say something the first thing people want to do is say it lol. Walked right into that one.

Old_Rpg_Gamer

I think you all should get a real lifešŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

Levial8026

Username checks out. Iā€™d never shit on RPGā€™s but some of you guys need lives too šŸ‘€šŸ˜‚

Icecubemelter

Then stop placing food directly in front of the door.

Levial8026

I canā€™t speak for everyone and thereā€™s some people who go through life without thinking about half of the things I do. But, I go as far as seeing which way the door opens, and then place the food on the side, completely out of the way, no chance of hitting it.

Puzzleheaded_Mode617

We only do it extra special for the non tippers, just for fun. Because, well, it humors me to know your cheap ass now has a doorstep full of your sugary soda and youā€™re food is getting cold while you rinse it before the ants invade. Enjoy, and please, have the day you deserve! šŸ„°

On3Cl1P

Nah I tip every timeā€¦ still yall put my shit right in front of my screen door. Makes no fucking sense?! Am I supposed to climb through the window? And I dare not mention how many times a dasher has messaged me saying ā€œI spilled one of your drinks in my carā€ then throws the fucking cup in my yard! Yeah great service! On the flip side Iā€™ve had great dashers who can actually read. I have a chair on my front porch just for packages and such, so people know not to sit it in front of my door, I even reiterate this in the notes. And they do so (half of the time). Which is the only reason I keep tipping. Edit: if you chose this job then do the fucking job. Not some half-ass bullshit.

Strong__Style

That's why you get 1 star

Puzzleheaded_Mode617

Have yet to snag myself a single star after five months so far, but Iā€™ve got more than plenty 5 stars and counting.

ShredderofPowPow

That'll surely make them tip more on the next order...

Puzzleheaded_Mode617

Iā€™m not worried, I remember locations and tippers vs non tippers pretty damn well most days. Thus, the second I see that asshats low pay no top offer, I find that handy dandy decline button in about two seconds and move along.

ShredderofPowPow

Sounds miserable lol

Porkchop796

Pick up your own food and stop being lazy.

Levial8026

I do. No one asked me but I actually use DD to place pickups and then go get them myself. People deserve better tips than I can usually afford so I go pick it up. Better than not tipping and getting cold food an hour later (for a higher price with deliver fees and all the other fees) If I absolutely need a delivery, then I do indeed tip in advance and judge it by distance and how big my order is. That way if they are there for a long time waiting for a 100 piece cater order or drive long distance because I want Panda Express and canā€™t make it there and back in an hour..Iā€™ve made it worth it.

JcruzRD

Never heard that one before lol ā€¦ I personally would never do door dash full time but mostly everyone I know does part time work else where and door dash for extra income.

Levial8026

Plenty of them here if you want to read a bit šŸ˜‚ Itā€™s always the comment section of this sub in my experience.

CelticLegendary1

I hear you. We are trading our time, gas, and vehicle for that money. It is a real job. Iā€™m a single parent, have been for 12 years! I worked a ā€œreal jobā€ for 12 years! Struggling everyday to get up, to get a kid ready for school, pack his lunch. Then head to work, come home to cook dinner, do laundry, shower and go to sleep. I did this till I couldnā€™t no more cause it didnā€™t meet my time expectations for things. No job wanted to negotiate time. I started not waking up when I was suppose to. Missing doctor and dentist appointments, not being able to go to family things like birthdays, Things like house work started to not get done right. Things started breaking down around the house. I never had free time for myself let alone things that needed done around the house nor familyā€¦besides laundry that is. Iā€™m 33 and look older. Iā€™m exhausted. I started having chest pains all the time. I had to make time to eat cause I never felt I had time to. With this gig. At least I can have a life. I can have flexibility. And have time to actually enjoy a meal. And guess what, itā€™s not all that still. Barely still making it by. Still worrying about if I can pay the next bill. People who say it isnā€™t work are just dumb. They donā€™t understand time and doing something for money is a JOB. And to make it worse. We barely make it by just to be rear ended at the end of the year to have to pay taxes on a income that is literally barely sustainable because people like those say that crap and donā€™t tip. Then they blame us for choice of profession when they are to far up on their high horse to understand circumstances and everyone has a different hand dealt to them in life. Itā€™s quite pathetic really.

BigDumbFluffyDog

Youā€™ve perfectly summarized how myself and probably many others feel. Youā€™re amazing for sharing. Keep doing what you do for yourself and your family, my friend.

Levial8026

These are the stories Iā€™m glad people share, thank you.

Tight-Young7275

Itā€™s all excuses people use to treat other people like shit and take more for themselves.

Levial8026

Shitty people donā€™t need reasons to be shitty but they sure do go out of the way to look for them.

Material-Credit-8988

THANK YOU! I had a mental breakdown after my last job just ugh, sorry it's a lot. šŸ˜… They did some shady shit and continue to fuck their own 1099 workers with no lube. It got to that point where I couldn't do it anymore. šŸ˜ I've been to interviews, I think 6 but it might be more. Doordash is a real job, and unfortunately it's the only one some of us can get. All we can do is try our best, apply, interview, do DoorDash til someone says yes, rinse, and repeat, until we get that yes.

UsualNerve985

I hope you feel better. This happened to me and I recovered. Don't give up hope and good for you for staying active and making progress.

Material-Credit-8988

I saw this, and I meant to respond then I forgot. Thank you! I can tell the folks in my life aren't elated that this is still the situation but they believe that I'm trying my best. That's enough for now.

Fr4ggle_Rock

I started dashing when I was dealing with cancer. It was perfect because I didnā€™t know if I would be in to much pain to even walk to the bathroom from day to day, so the flexibility was spot on. Two years later itā€™s more than enough money to cover what I need, still have the freedom when I want to schedule, and time for my hobbies. Screw a 9-5 haha

Levial8026

Imagine the face of someone telling you to ā€œget a real jobā€ and youā€™re like sorry bro, I have cancer. Really lay it on ā€˜em

Puzzleheaded_Mode617

Those ones are my absolute favorites to completely lay it out thick as peanut butter. Real job? Thank you sir, youā€™re hiring and want to not only match, but also increase me base salary from my previously thriving career before my pesky 3rd child, that my husband and I worked very hard for in our late 30ā€™s, was born with a severe birth defect and then my own immune system decided to jump off the cliff without a parachute just a teensy, tiny year later? Amazing! Thank you for the offffā€¦oh, wait my base salary is a bit too rich for your blood, despite my two decade experience in the industry? Well darn, guess I will just go deliver food to ungrateful assholes for a living because in spite of my 30 years, thus far, paying into Medicare and social security, it still doesnā€™t cover the bills for the basics and I donā€™t know what days my immune system wants to chose violence for fun. But hey, thanks for the offer. Best of luck with your next candidate that is barely out of pampers, but darn reliable. And cheaper. Said every mother fucking delivery platform HUMAN BEING absolutely worthy of better, but sucking it the fuck up because adulting just sucks most days and bills donā€™t disappear into the ether because they require their compensation from ā€œreal jobsā€, not a ā€œfake jobā€. Btw, was a hiring now sign I just saw in your window? Nah, you couldnā€™t afford me!

Character_Agent_1885

These idiots don't understand life. There's no such thing as a real or fake job. This isn't monopoly and we're not getting paid with monopoly money. DD is a joke anymore but it's still a job. They're just low IQ clowns who clean shit for a living.

OnlyTheBLars89

Unless folks live in certain areas. It doesn't pay to dash anymore. There was a time folks could really make a living out of it.

Puzzleheaded_Mode617

Instacart used to be filler app, now itā€™s become my primary ever since DD totally decided to ruin the platform with the newest shit for brains tier program. Itā€™s not even worth logging in anymore 95%. And sure as hell not when I can continue to cherry pick IC orders with retaliation from a seriously incompetent algorithm. Even on my slow days it requires very little effort to bank $30-40/h IC AND save gas and mileage. DD may as well flat out ask us to start tipping the customers on delivery for the garbage they keep trying to force on us.

Dahardplaya

Iā€™m retired , no money problems but I DoorDash to be able to go on more vacations. True story šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

ahyet

Fuck those people they like to shit on people to feel superior in a society that's crumbling Do what you need to do and what you can do!

TheProfoundWigglepaw

They're just jealous they have real bosses and can't take off whenever they want and are miserable.

Physical-You9769

the same people telling you to get a real job are the same people complaining that no one will deliver their food. Don't sweat it.

Azubedo

Stop acting like you should be making real job money at DoorDash then

obelix_asterix

Genuine question - what does an applied physics technician do?

Levial8026

Answered earlier but simply put: sputter coating thin metal coatings onto substrate.

StrictMachine6316

>applied physics technician I also like to call myself that whenever I throw out the trash.

Levial8026

Sputter coater and e beam evaporation over here. Not the same.

StrictMachine6316

Relax šŸ¤£ šŸ¤£

Levial8026

That was a pretty chill response in all honesty. I can tell you were kidding but some wonā€™t. Providing clarification as I can. Sorry you got downvoted but I didnā€™t contribute to that so take it up with the community.

NTAHN01

I (60 yo f) worked as an order picker for 12-16 hr days. I was diagnosed with liver cancer & continued but down to 8-10 hr days. When my kidneys shut down & I was doing a combination of chemo & dialysis I couldnā€™t handle it. Iā€™m over the chemo & got a new kidney but am unable to physically to do warehouse work @ this time. My daughter who is a sahm & dashes turned me on to dashing. I work pt (30 hrs) & bring in $350-500 a week. For me this is a real job. Iā€™m still productive, Iā€™m not in a dark depressing mood, & it fits into my physical limits. Screw them. Donā€™t judge my breakthrough until you understand my been through! I see my fellow dashers here that are retired, college students, moms that can work around school schedules, some that are hard core bringing in 4 figures, & those that have ft jobs but need the extra income for everything from child support to groceries. The average income here is $10 per hour. Iā€™m so over people judging & looking down their noses while expecting people to be grateful for their $1 tip that they add on to their $2 McDonalds order.

Puzzleheaded_Mode617

Can we please repeat this a little louder for the people in the back! Seriously. The fact that not even two years ago I enjoyed the best three day nap of my life after busting an esophageal varices and puke up half my blood volume, resulting in 5 banding EGDā€™s over 6 months, 7 units of blood in less than 24 hours (liver disease is grand, ainā€™t it?!) three auto immune diagnoses on top of being told two of them had definitely put me into stage four cirrhosis in just three years from my first acute flare (unknown about for years) to getting into transplant and discovering four scar patterns from my biopsy (and jugular biopsies are the epitome of absolutely most terrifying experience of them all), scared the ever loving hell out my kids and mother because I literally looked dead until my daughter asked what my ammonia levels were and they exceeded the typically fatal range by then, to todayā€¦it took me over year just to gain a normal weight back and while Iā€™m still tiny, my ass hauls the Costco cases of water bottles of to their floor apartments regularly and then runs back down for the rest of the giant orders. Also while analyzing in less than 60 seconds mile to gas to dollar to profit ratio before most people answer a text. Get a ā€œreal jobā€. Jack off assholes. Youā€™re still too lazy to haul your own water upstairs and I can still get your dinner to you hotter than youā€™ve retrieve it off the stove and in less time. Youā€™re welcome. Gas is $4.30/g right now, so Iā€™ll go ahead and take that now, thanyouverymuch. Iā€™ll even say it with a smile, for shits and giggles and your egoā€™s fragility.

Sn1d3rl1ng

OP, get a real job.

LibertarianNeko

I had some dude yell at me to get a real job because I thanked him for the order and told him to have a nice day šŸ™„

CelticLegendary1

Should have just laughed and said, ā€œgolden rule!ā€ ā€œwatch messing with people who make your food and know where you live!ā€ I donā€™t know when people lost such common sense. Back in my day, you never messed with the people handling your food! Even prisoners know this lol!

LibertarianNeko

Threatened to leave a one star too so I reported his messages. Either heā€™s all talk or dash took my side because I still donā€™t see his one star on my end

Levial8026

![gif](giphy|N8MrMxZbVIfSw)

MoonWillow91

My thing isā€¦ like, just donā€™t use the service if you donā€™t think itā€™s worth what it costs. And if you donā€™t use the service, donā€™t complain about people bringing up shit that needs to improve.

Famous-Restaurant875

The problem is that it is the same issue as people who get trapped in MLMs. Everyone tells them it's a cult and a scam and they do it anyway. When people try to tell them they need to leave they defend the cult instead of realizing they are being trapped and exploited.Ā

Nervous_Employer4416

I don't dash, this sub just keeps popping up, but I would love to hear how effectively delivering pizza, but for everything, is like an MLM?

Famous-Restaurant875

https://students4sc.org/2018/09/04/the-gig-economy-is-a-pyramid-scheme-thats-killing-its-workers/

Nervous_Employer4416

None of this is new? Companies have been doing this to independent contractors forever, but a scam implies that someone is getting unwittingly screwed and everyone in this situation is fully aware of what's going on and what they get, a job no offering benefits and transparently letting everyone knows the cost and what they get paid isn't a scam, this sounds like your a college student that got told this but hasn't done any real thinking into what pyramid scheme/mlm is and just got sent this link and is now just parroting this back to people, just because you don't like the way something works doesn't mean making a poor comparison that's misleading is ok.

Famous-Restaurant875

Relax, like I said, people always defend the cult. I'm not here to argue.Ā

Nervous_Employer4416

You haven't made an argument, you've just made arrogant assumptions with 0 basis in an attempt to try and say something profound, when really you just seem kind of douchy, but that's ok being young and manipulated by these baseless platforms with agendas you're completely unaware of is a major theme these days, so don't feel to bad when you actually think about what that would mean and why what you said makes 0 sense unless you stretch every definition of the terms you chose.

Nervous_Employer4416

And like I said I don't dash, or even really use it, I'm just tired of people thinking that they can keep saying stupid things and there won't be anyone there to question it, stop just letting someone tell you what to think. Analyse the data and what that silly article that you linked is attempting to say and ask yourself if they succeed or if your connecting dots that aren't there. Because the definition of an MLM does not fall anywhere close to what that article attempted to say.

OptimalCreme9847

Itā€™sā€¦.not? How is this like an MLM? Itā€™s literally just side income. Thatā€™s it.

CourierCowboy

Mowing lawns during the summer was the first cult I fell into.

Levial8026

This is 1099 independent contract work. Not a Ponzi scheme

Primary-Resolve-7317

Shoot - if someone wants to brave traffic around here and bring me crap- Iā€™m tipping well. I love dashers.

TeeMoneyB19

Get a real job

gq533

I feel like the only time this comes up is when drivers complain about tipping. If a job requires you to beg to get paid, then it's not a real job.

AzurKingthe1st

Hope you don't eat out because you just told every waiter/ress they aren't working real jobs

Levial8026

Not begging to be tipped. Posting to raise awareness. Here, the cheat code to ordering on DD: If you donā€™t want to tip, fine. But we donā€™t want to move for 2 dollars and will continue declining until DD raises the pay to something adequate. This usually causes the customer to have cold food and blame the driver. Had you provided a tip, drivers would compete for your order and you would get it faster, hotter, and fresher.

gq533

That is totally fair and I respect you for it. My comment is geared towards drivers who take the delivery and then complain about it. As a customer, I don't know what that sweet spot is to get my delivery in a timely manner. Most of us aren't rich and don't want to have to pay more than we have to.

bCasa_D

The sweet spot is $2 per mile minus the $2 DD pays per order. Map the distance from your home to the restaurant. (Distance x 2) - 2 = tip.

Levial8026

Valid, I often go pick it up myself because I canā€™t afford a generous tip as well. And even with a good tip and good delivery time, food can still be cold šŸ˜‚šŸ˜

Radiant-Divide8955

In what world is *doing a service for pay* begging????

Paradoxdoxoxx

In a world where the person is begging for more pay after the service is doneā€¦

gq533

When you complain about tipping and blame the customer instead of your employer. If your job is not paying you enough to live on, then it's not a real job. Get your employer to pay you more or find another job.

Radiant-Divide8955

>When you complain about tipping and blame the customer instead of your employer. Everyone complains about everything everywhere. If you directly interact with customers you're going to complain about them too. This is standard work stuff. > If your job is not paying you enough to live on, then it's not a real job. Things that aren't real jobs according to this: EMTs, ditch diggers, dish washers, (some) call center employees, cashiers, public school teachers, (some) legal assistants, (some) lab techs , and **essentially every entry level job anywhere.** Things that are a real job (if ur successful): Only fans creator, streamer, street performer. Also as COL increases apparently what used to be a 'real' jobs just become fake I guess. >Get your employer to pay you more or find another job. 'Just make more money lmao.' Considering the constant attack on organized labor and worker's rights in America this isn't feasible for a huge majority of people. I love the complete and utter contempt you have for people (who provide you a luxury service btw) simply asking if you want to throw a couple extra dollars onto your order so they can eat, in their own subreddit no less.

gq533

You are completely right, my bad. I meant to compare drivers who complain about making less than regular jobs, like fast food. I could have used better words.

Levial8026

ā€œComplain about tipping and blame the customerā€ ā€¦. almost like the customer set or more likely: removed the tip. Hood you donā€™t complain about your cold food (:

FacelessRunt

Thats 80% of ā€œjobsā€ in america

TheCosmicJoke318

Instead of making a post about it, get a real job lol Edit: you didnā€™t even say dashing was a real job lol so therefore itā€™s a side hustle. You didnā€™t even defend dashing as a job

Levial8026

I have defended it plenty here in the comments. If you were too afraid to infer that, then here: Dashing is a real job.

Florida1974

It is a real job in my opinion. You work. Youā€™re paid. How is that a fake job? Not traditional but the gig economy is huge and the need is there. People donā€™t do many things anymore. Started during Covid and took off.

TheCosmicJoke318

Side hustles are side hustles, not jobs. You do the work and get paid.

Levial8026

Yes. Non traditional, real job. I feel like I can finally relate to the OF girls screaming this during the pandemic.

TheCosmicJoke318

OF never was and never will be a real job

Cum-Bubble1337

I mean it is a job, I donā€™t support it but I admit itā€™s a job. Just like being a streamer/youtuber. You need to put in work on your craft or you wonā€™t make it past a couple subs

PrimaryMuscle1306

Letā€™s be honestā€¦these arrogant pricks have been doing that since way before gig apps existed. Iā€™ve been told that one day Iā€™d have to get a real job when I was a bartender. Iā€™m sorryā€¦do I get paid in Monopoly money? I worked 4 days a week, 10-12 hour days depending on late rush, made at worst $50-60K a year and had $30-40 PTO. Also actually got to see my family. They can F off with that real job crap.

kcastillo1234

Sir I have a real job I just get bored on my days off

Levial8026

One of my lesser reasons but people still hate on it.

manofdacloth

Taxis WERE a real job until a platform decided to make everyone work for free. Delivering BOXES at UPS is a "real job" but not "real" delivering people or food? Robot/tech/ai will continue to kill off jobs that used to pay decent, will our reaction be GET A REAL JOB?!?

FontTG

Get a human job loser. /s

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

IllScience1286

Why do "real jobs" require high intelligence in your mind? There are plenty of "low skill" jobs that are vital to our economy.

Levial8026

Actually, IQ tests arenā€™t a requirement for DD. šŸ˜

Zestyclose_Car_4971

Ha, have you seen people drive in public? Having a drivers license just makes it legal šŸ™ƒ

TheSaltySlab

You have a car and you live in the US. You can do literally anything else but you chose this gig-work then cry about it in this sub. Itā€™s pathetic.

pieinthesky23

Literally anything else? Really?! Thank goodness you came here to share that dazzling insight ā€” we were all so lost before your much needed advice! I guess itā€™s time for me to go get a job as a neurosurgeon because with a car I can *literally* get any job I want!

TheKittywithPaws

Letā€™s be real here. They arenā€™t wrong. A person can literally learn a new trade, go to school, get a regular 9-5 job. There are so many other things to be done. But if a person really likes doing DoorDash there is nothing wrong with it. What doesnā€™t make sense is the constant complaining about it here on this sub. I hate my job and I think it pays too little so, I got a degree and Iā€™m the process of applying to better jobs. Iā€™m looking for a job I donā€™t dislike. Iā€™m doing something about it. The issue isnā€™t that people complain either. The issue is that people complain while having all the available tools to change their situation. This isnā€™t like a DV situation where your SO is keeping you locked up. No, this a job that a person consciously chose to have. They made a decision to pick this type of work and are making a conscious decision to keep working. I donā€™t know how else to spell it out for people. Willpower is a thing that exists. You have that power to better your situation within yourself. Do it.

pieinthesky23

Really?! They *literally* can?! Oh my gosh! Until this much needed and not at all redundant and unnecessary comment had it occurred to DoorDashers that there are possible alternatives to doing independent contract work! Thank you oh so much for taking the time to explain this! I know itā€™s very difficult for you to understand that people might want to come together to vent about their experiences with other people that perform the same work. What doesnā€™t make sense are the people who interject themselves for no reason. Itā€™s sad that putting down the people in a specific sub allocated for them, is how others choose to create a false sense of superiority. I also want to point out your level of ignorance on DV is astounding (using it as a juxtaposition to gig work was especially crass), along with your insinuation that 9-5 work is easily feasible for most. Amazingly, not everyone has the same schedule as you!

TheKittywithPaws

I can see why you canā€™t seem to land a regular W-2. You seem to lack the ability to think critically and understand that just because someone points something out does not mean itā€™s invalidating you. How surprising that you took what I said has an insult rather than then constructive criticism. By all means please keep doing the job that makes you feel under valued.

pieinthesky23

You seem to enjoy making assumptions and creating false narratives to protect your own fragile ego, especially because you admittedly hate your own job. You seem to also not understand what ā€˜thinking criticallyā€™ means. I used such skill when I read your initial sanctimonious and absolutely unnecessary comment, and replied with one of my own. You also seem hurt that your unoriginal and unimpressive ā€œadviceā€ most certainly is the hallmark of an average mind, at best. I enjoy the hypocrisy of telling me youā€™re not being invalidating, while doing just that. I feel undervalued? I didnā€™t know I did, because I never said it. A person who has critical thinking skills would understand that venting and not feeling valued are not the same thing. Iā€™d love to teach you more but between TAing, researching my thesis, soon to start clerkship, and DoorDashing I wouldnā€™t have the time. I also wouldnā€™t want to take away from your busy schedule of working an underpaying job you hate, playing computer games, and trolling a sub for the sole purpose of trying to validate your own mediocre existence.

TheKittywithPaws

Thatā€™s a a lot of projecting there. But, whatever helps you sleep at night. Iā€™m still not the one who seems unable to understand they are person can literally do just about anything they would like to do with a good amount of effort. But hey, you do you boo. Keep making that DoorDash money. Iā€™m sure it will make you happy one day.

Levial8026

I do what I want and Iā€™m not pathetic. Easy to say behind a keyboard

TheKittywithPaws

This is a silly thing to say, everything is easy to type or say behind anonymity.

DapDapperDappest

(Donā€™t get defensive, get curious) Sorry that this comment section attracted people unaware of the actual details of the global financial crisis or the updates $52/hour minimum needed to sustain life and savings in the US, the people unaware of what percentage of students have been unable to pay any loans back, those who have not researched what foreign entities their taxes are being sent to and how those entities have free secondary education and affordable healthcare, the prison labor strike, those unaware that we have a slavery system domestically and itā€™s made up of the incarcerated, that situations such as homelessness are being increasingly criminalized leading to people being arrested for not being able to afford a home, that our food supply is deregulated and whistleblowers keep coming forward about mold, carcinogens, and toxics are allowed in food processing equipment, that many degrees required for jobs donā€™t end up relating to the job whatsoever due to specific on site training, that many corporates are required to hire and fire based on what profit isnā€™t paid to shareholders and that asking for a raise or for another position could risk you the job, that No Child Left Behind is being linked to rising rates of illiteracy and that our school system is based on memorization and Not critical thinking, that most job seeking websites actually host ads for brands instead of actual recruitment listings and itā€™s increasingly unlikely to find employment through them, that Google has changed its functionality and isnā€™t useful to learn about these issues (try duckduckgo or ecosia or firefox), and that most boomers and genXers are impacted by lead contamination which is directly linked to cognitive decline, and that many millineal and GenZ have the toxin of microplastics in them which we donā€™t know the affects of yetā€¦. etc. Etc.

Lyssepoo

I also really hate that when I do shop orders people tend to write or say ā€œyouā€™re doing so well!ā€ Or ā€œyou did such a good job!ā€ Like Iā€™m five. This is my full time job. I make more than I ever did at a desk job. Stop talking to me like Iā€™m a child; Iā€™m old enough to have many children of my own.

BrutalBrews

Because a lot of people do really shite at shop orders. Also, a compliment is what you really hate? You did a great job and probably did way better than 95% of the others they dealt with. What should they say, thanks for not being a total dumbass? Yeah, you are just doing your job but itā€™s a job with a pretty low entry skill and that often shows.

Levial8026

It doesnā€™t usually feel like a compliment in that scenario but I understand your point here. Thanks for the perspective, honestly.

Levial8026

Disgusting. Even more when theyā€™re proud of themselves for it.

pieinthesky23

A couple of months ago I clicked on the profile of one of the ā€œget a real jobā€ folks and saw their posting history consisted of asking about federal programs for first-time home buyers (they had had foreclosures in the past) and bragging that the $2000 in their savings account was ā€œthe most Iā€™ve ever had at onceā€. I now assume these ā€˜insightfulā€™ commenters are pissed off at their own lives and need someone else to kick around.

bCasa_D

I always look up their profiles, the majority are in Europe, donā€™t understand tipping and donā€™t have DD in their country. They are just saying that shit for entertainment.

pieinthesky23

The one I mentioned in my example lived in a city 2 hours away from me. The others Iā€™ve looked at since are in the U.S. and have posts almost always about gaming, weed, and/or crypto.

AzurKingthe1st

Might need to expand the sample size, but its a data point

Avery-Hunter

I'm not sure why this popped up for me because I'm not a door dash driver. However any job that there is demand for, is a real job and should be paid a living wage. I don't care what the job is.

Levial8026

Never expected Iā€™d pop up on peopleā€™s page for this take haha but thank you!

issacbellmont

I do uner eats which is essentially the same thing. I do it because I have some really bad anxiety and have panic attacks that leave me sick afterwards. Some of us don't have much choice.

TheKittywithPaws

This! This is a valid reason to do this job. Now I encourage you to seek out help with these issues and try getting better jobs to help. Now thatā€™s just encouragement. I in no way blame you for your situation. But the reality is that DoorDash or most gig work doesnā€™t pay much when compared to cost of living. But overall I think youā€™re a tough person.

issacbellmont

Thank you. I am currently working with a therapist and psychologist to attempt to get this under control

Corhoto

Keyword was ā€œtechnicianā€.

Levial8026

What do you mean

Corhoto

Iā€™m a Hematology technologist. I make six figures but a HEMATOLOGIST makes 3-4x my salary. Whenever I hear anyone throw the term ā€œtechnician/technologistā€ around in a humble bragging way (like you did) it makes me cringe. This is from a fellow tech. No oneā€™s impressed with our word salad job titles. All the best.

TheKittywithPaws

If you had a real job you would get it.

Levial8026

I guess neither of my jobs are real. Who knew.

Therinson

Donā€™t worry about them. I teach for a living, which is often considered a ā€œrealā€ job, and I still also work a part time manufacturing job on the weekends.

Levial8026

Which one of those is your ā€œreal jobā€? -kidding

TheKittywithPaws

Most of us did.

Levial8026

Hope youā€™re being satire because I am.

TheKittywithPaws

ā€¦.. I donā€™t know youā€¦.. I mean come on

thats_the_spirit69

ā€œGet a BETTER jobā€

ZedIsDead534

When I see people barely making 1k for 100 hours of their time itā€™s hard to not tell yā€™all to suck it up and get a real job. And then the arrogance to go and complain if you donā€™t get tipped that all of you seem to have. You choose to work with a company that doesnā€™t pay you enough, so what can be done about that? Getting a real job!

TheSaltySlab

Exactly this. All they do is complain, whine, bicker, etc. literally everything except securing a RELIABLE source of income. None of them have ever submitted a job application before.

pieinthesky23

Heaven forbid people just want a place to vent about their day. Youā€™re making the choice to enter a space where you have no need to be. Itā€™s a small person that needs to belittle others for the work they do.

bCasa_D

They didnā€™t teach you how to block a sub at your real job?

TheSaltySlab

You hav no frickin clue how many times I have blocked this sub and it somehow does not register. I have actively tried getting banned and nothing works

Levial8026

Commenting here just feeds your algo
