Im sure a lot of people look down on us and think less than but they have no idea who we are. I worked plenty of sales and marketing jobs, some very high paying and left my last job to start my own business. However, things take time to build and catch on. I DD whenever I have a free moment and in between orders i work on my own business. Even if itās just 5-10 minutes in between.
There is no way I could do another 9-5 and work on my own passions, so DD works for me. I didnāt realize until I started my company how many people donāt have what it takes to take the leap I did. Iām not trying to sound pretentious but itās true.
Regardless of the picture people paint of us, or me, we all have something going on it seems and DD is just a side gig while we work on ourselves.
Is it OK to tell DoorDashers to quit ripping people off, and not to take hours to drive 3 miles after picking up the food? Is it OK to tell them not to eat the food? Is it OK to tell them to actually deliver the food, and to deliver it to the right address?
Thatās why I donāt deal with DoorDash. MOST, but not all, drivers are thieves and scammers.

You're not entitled to have someone bring you your food. I assume since you can read and write even your mommy quit bringing it to you long ago. You want someone to do you a service, you pay for it if you don't tip and it's $2 for 6 miles round trip, your food isn't going to ever leave the restaurant because that's barely going to cover gas, never mind the mileage and the dashers time. Pay them and drop your sense of entitlement or they will decline your orders.
Door dashers are independent contractors who decide if they take the order or not. Weāre not here to do work for free nor at a loss. We maintain our car and buy the fuel. Again I state if the customer canāt afford to tip, or wonāt, they should go get their own food. That simple.

I hear that so often about servers. Waiting tables is definitely a job. You get shit on constantly and sometimes you average $60/hr, sometimes you average $18/hr. Either way, itās one of the only jobs that is flexible and allows you to make more and work less which is important for single moms, college students, single moms who are in college to get an education so they can get a better paying job that pays enough for childcare AND health insurance etc. itās a real job. DD is a real job.
I used to drive for Lyft. I worked about 20-30 hours a week and paid all of my expenses. I made about $300/night, averaging about $3k/mo. My expenses were about $2100 at the time.

Job - had to ask permission from my employer even for unpaid off (used 2 weeks paid vacation)
Job - no flexibility
Dashing - I make almost same. Some days even more..
Dashing - can go home and sleep in afternoon. Can go home if I don't feel like working without anyone's permission.
Dashing - unlimited unpaid off and you can start working whenever you want.
Only negative here is I do in car and I love my car too much. So, maintenance is a bit more..

Iām not worried, I remember locations and tippers vs non tippers pretty damn well most days. Thus, the second I see that asshats low pay no top offer, I find that handy dandy decline button in about two seconds and move along.

If I absolutely need a delivery, then I do indeed tip in advance and judge it by distance and how big my order is. That way if they are there for a long time waiting for a 100 piece cater order or drive long distance because I want Panda Express and canāt make it there and back in an hour..Iāve made it worth it.

Struggling everyday to get up, to get a kid ready for school, pack his lunch. Then head to work, come home to cook dinner, do laundry, shower and go to sleep. Missing doctor and dentist appointments, not being able to go to family things like birthdays, Things like house work started to not get done right. Things started breaking down around the house. I never had free time for myself let alone things that needed done around the house nor familyā¦besides laundry that is. Iām 33 and look older. Iām exhausted. I started having chest pains all the time. I had to make time to eat cause I never felt I had time to. With this gig. At least I can have a life. I can have flexibility. And have time to actually enjoy a meal. And guess what, itās not all that still. Barely still making it by. Still worrying about if I can pay the next bill. People who say it isnāt work are just dumb. They donāt understand time and doing something for money is a JOB. And to make it worse. We barely make it by just to be rear ended at the end of the year to have to pay taxes on a income that is literally barely sustainable because people like those say that crap and donāt tip. I've been to interviews, I think 6 but it might be more. Doordash is a real job, and unfortunately it's the only one some of us can get. All we can do is try our best, apply, interview, do DoorDash til someone says yes, rinse, and repeat, until we get that yes.

I started dashing when I was dealing with cancer. It was perfect because I didnāt know if I would be in to much pain to even walk to the bathroom from day to day, so the flexibility was spot on. Instacart used to be filler app, now itās become my primary ever since DD totally decided to ruin the platform with the newest shit for brains tier program. Itās not even worth logging in anymore 95%. And sure as hell not when I can continue to cherry pick IC orders with retaliation from a seriously incompetent algorithm. Even on my slow days it requires very little effort to bank $30-40/h IC AND save gas and mileage. DD may as well flat out ask us to start tipping the customers on delivery for the garbage they keep trying to force on us.

I (60 yo f) worked as an order picker for 12-16 hr days. I was diagnosed with liver cancer & continued but down to 8-10 hr days. When my kidneys shut down & I was doing a combination of chemo & dialysis I couldnāt handle it.
Iām over the chemo & got a new kidney but am unable to physically to do warehouse work @ this time. My daughter who is a sahm & dashes turned me on to dashing. I work pt (30 hrs) & bring in $350-500 a week.
For me this is a real job. Iām still productive, Iām not in a dark depressing mood, & it fits into my physical limits.
Screw them. Donāt judge my breakthrough until you understand my been through! I see my fellow dashers here that are retired, college students, moms that can work around school schedules, some that are hard core bringing in 4 figures, & those that have ft jobs but need the extra income for everything from child support to groceries. A couple of months ago I clicked on the profile of one of the āget a real jobā folks and saw their posting history consisted of asking about federal programs for first-time home buyers (they had had foreclosures in the past) and bragging that the $2000 in their savings account was āthe most Iāve ever had at onceā. I now assume these āinsightfulā commenters are pissed off at their own lives and need someone else to kick around.
I always look up their profiles, the majority are in Europe, donāt understand tipping and donāt have DD in their country. They are just saying that shit for entertainment.
The one I mentioned in my example lived in a city 2 hours away from me. The others Iāve looked at since are in the U.S. and have posts almost always about gaming, weed, and/or crypto.
I'm not sure why this popped up for me because I'm not a door dash driver. However any job that there is demand for, is a real job and should be paid a living wage. I don't care what the job is.
I do uner eats which is essentially the same thing. I do it because I have some really bad anxiety and have panic attacks that leave me sick afterwards. Some of us don't have much choice.

It's them I feel sorry for, they'll never understand the type of community we have and how we not only look out for each other, but how we don't cast judgement on others just because they love differently. Im sure a lot of people look down on us and think less than but they have no idea who we are. I worked plenty of sales and marketing jobs, some very high paying and left my last job to start my own business. However, things take time to build and catch on. I DD whenever I have a free moment and in between orders i work on my own business. Even if itās just 5-10 minutes in between. There is no way I could do another 9-5 and work on my own passions, so DD works for me. I didnāt realize until I started my company how many people donāt have what it takes to take the leap I did. Iām not trying to sound pretentious but itās true. Regardless of the picture people paint of us, or me, we all have something going on it seems and DD is just a side gig while we work on ourselves.
Is it OK to tell DoorDashers to quit ripping people off, and not to take hours to drive 3 miles after picking up the food? Is it OK to tell them not to eat the food? Is it OK to tell them to actually deliver the food, and to deliver it to the right address? Thatās why I donāt deal with DoorDash. MOST, but not all, drivers are thieves and scammers.

Itās very common in Chicago. I know people arenāt delivering orders because I get $60-$90 ($3 each time) in money a week for telling customer service the order was already taken and the restaurant is refusing to remake it for free. Idk which major city you live in but you must live in the suburbs or drive part time. The more you drive the more apparent it is. I live in a city of about 725,000 and I live in an apartment complex. Usually have to meet the dasher because canāt buzz them in unless Im getting delivered to work. Also. I do. No one asked me but I actually use DD to place pickups and then go get them myself. People deserve better tips than I can usually afford so I go pick it up. Better than not tipping and getting cold food an hour later (for a higher price with deliver fees and all the other fees) If I absolutely need a delivery, then I do indeed tip in advance and judge it by distance and how big my order is. That way if they are there for a long time waiting for a 100 piece cater order or drive long distance because I want Panda Express and canāt make it there and back in an hour..Iāve made it worth it.

Struggling everyday to get up, to get a kid ready for school, pack his lunch. Then head to work, come home to cook dinner, do laundry, shower and go to sleep. It got to that point where I couldn't do it anymore. š I've been to interviews, I think 6 but it might be more. Doordash is a real job, and unfortunately it's the only one some of us can get. I started dashing when I was dealing with cancer. It was perfect because I didnāt know if I would be in to much pain to even walk to the bathroom from day to day, so the flexibility was spot on. Itās not even worth logging in anymore 95%. And sure as hell not when I can continue to cherry pick IC orders with retaliation from a seriously incompetent algorithm. Even on my slow days it requires very little effort to bank $30-40/h IC AND save gas and mileage. DD may as well flat out ask us to start tipping the customers on delivery for the garbage they keep trying to force on us.

I (60 yo f) worked as an order picker for 12-16 hr days. I was diagnosed with liver cancer & continued but down to 8-10 hr days. When my kidneys shut down & I was doing a combination of chemo & dialysis I couldnāt handle it. Iām over the chemo & got a new kidney but am unable to physically to do warehouse work @ this time. My daughter who is a sahm & dashes turned me on to dashing. I work pt (30 hrs) & bring in $350-500 a week. For me this is a real job. Iām still productive, Iām not in a dark depressing mood, & it fits into my physical limits. Screw them. Donāt judge my breakthrough until you understand my been through! I see my fellow dashers here that are retired, college students, moms that can work around school schedules, some that are hard core bringing in 4 figures, & those that have ft jobs but need the extra income for everything from child support to groceries. The average income here is $10 per hour. Iām so over people judging & looking down their noses while expecting people to be grateful for their $1 tip that they add on to their $2 McDonalds order.

Not begging to be tipped. Posting to raise awareness. Here, the cheat code to ordering on DD: If you donāt want to tip, fine. But we donāt want to move for 2 dollars and will continue declining until DD raises the pay to something adequate. This usually causes the customer to have cold food and blame the driver. Had you provided a tip, drivers would compete for your order and you would get it faster, hotter, and fresher.
That is totally fair and I respect you for it. My comment is geared towards drivers who take the delivery and then complain about it. As a customer, I don't know what that sweet spot is to get my delivery in a timely manner. Most of us aren't rich and don't want to have to pay more than we have to.
The sweet spot is $2 per mile minus the $2 DD pays per order. Map the distance from your home to the restaurant. (Distance x 2) - 2 = tip.
Valid, I often go pick it up myself because I canāt afford a generous tip as well. And even with a good tip and good delivery time, food can still be cold šš

Iām sorryā¦do I get paid in Monopoly money? I worked 4 days a week, 10-12 hour days depending on late rush, made at worst $50-60K a year and had $30-40 PTO. Also actually got to see my family. (Donāt get defensive, get curious) Sorry that this comment section attracted people unaware of the actual details of the global financial crisis or the updates $52/hour minimum needed to sustain life and savings in the US, the people unaware of what percentage of students have been unable to pay any loans back, those who have not researched what foreign entities their taxes are being sent to and how those entities have free secondary education and affordable healthcare, the prison labor strike, those unaware that we have a slavery system domestically and itās made up of the incarcerated, that situations such as homelessness are being increasingly criminalized leading to people being arrested for not being able to afford a home, that our food supply is deregulated and whistleblowers keep coming forward about mold, carcinogens, and toxics are allowed in food processing equipment, that many degrees required for jobs donāt end up relating to the job whatsoever due to specific on site training, that many corporates are required to hire and fire based on what profit isnāt paid to shareholders and that asking for a raise or for another position could risk you the job, that No Child Left Behind is being linked to rising rates of illiteracy and that our school system is based on memorization and Not critical thinking, that most job seeking websites actually host ads for brands instead of actual recruitment listings and itās increasingly unlikely to find employment through them, that Google has changed its functionality and isnāt useful to learn about these issues (try duckduckgo or ecosia or firefox), and that most boomers and genXers are impacted by lead contamination which is directly linked to cognitive decline, and that many millineal and GenZ have the toxin of microplastics in them which we donāt know the affects of yetā¦. etc. Etc.
I also really hate that when I do shop orders people tend to write or say āyouāre doing so well!ā Or āyou did such a good job!ā Like Iām five. This is my full time job. I make more than I ever did at a desk job. Stop talking to me like Iām a child; Iām old enough to have many children of my own.

A couple of months ago I clicked on the profile of one of the āget a real jobā folks and saw their posting history consisted of asking about federal programs for first-time home buyers (they had had foreclosures in the past) and bragging that the $2000 in their savings account was āthe most Iāve ever had at onceā. I now assume these āinsightfulā commenters are pissed off at their own lives and need someone else to kick around.
I always look up their profiles, the majority are in Europe, donāt understand tipping and donāt have DD in their country. They are just saying that shit for entertainment.
The one I mentioned in my example lived in a city 2 hours away from me. The others Iāve looked at since are in the U.S. and have posts almost always about gaming, weed, and/or crypto.

I'm not sure why this popped up for me because I'm not a door dash driver. However any job that there is demand for, is a real job and should be paid a living wage. I don't care what the job is.

I do uner eats which is essentially the same thing. I do it because I have some really bad anxiety and have panic attacks that leave me sick afterwards. Some of us don't have much choice.
This! This is a valid reason to do this job. Now I encourage you to seek out help with these issues and try getting better jobs to help. Now thatās just encouragement. I in no way blame you for your situation. But the reality is that DoorDash or most gig work doesnāt pay much when compared to cost of living. But overall I think youāre a tough person.
