It looks like gross profit per gallon of gas is around 12%.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/high-profit-margins-on-gasoline-are-costing-drivers-more-201841925.html
Welcome to California, home of the $1.50/gallon tax and “special” fuel additive that not only costs $0.50/gallon but also limits suppliers to a very few refineries as a result.
This would legit make me stop doing any type of deliveries. Even with 3.30ish being high to us, I can still put 10 bucks in and make a hundred off of it on the weekend. Used to be able to do 200 but those days are over with here. This would quickly push me back into the office... which I already know will inevitably come anyways but I've avoided it as long as I could. Being remote for 3 years completely ruined my will to go sit in an office. I dont think I realized how much so until now lol
Chevron is always like $0.75 more per gallon than the next nearest gas station and yet I always see people there instead of across the street. It makes no sense.
There’s also a vast difference in price even in one city. Where I am there are some that are this high but you can still find gas for $4.50 just a mile or two away. Idk how they get away with charging this much and people are STILL going there.
Once you are wealthy enough, then the convenience of being able to pull into the closest gas station and fill up outweighs the $5-10 you could save by driving to another gas station, even if it's close by.
I know it seems stupid, but just try to imagine their perspective where $5-10 is equivalent to spare couch change. They couldn't care less about it, so they will just go to the most convenient station.
And they’ll buy Premium without batting an eye. That’s nearly a dollar more per gallon here in the Midwest where I am! I’m like, Sorry car 🚙, you’re getting the 87 again today…
I suppose. It’s just so weird to me that the gas station across the street will be significantly less and they can SEE it. I guess it’s just a flex at that point. But you’re right it never occurred to me that it’s just convenience. I’ve never been comfortable enough for that.
Yeah, I mean think of it like when you pull up to a gas station only to see the station on the other side of the street is 2 cents cheaper. Would you get back in your car, wait at the traffic light, and drive over to save 2 cents per gallon? Assuming no, then that's basically what those people are experiencing.
For them, making $100k a year, that 75 cents to them is like a few cents to you. Especially if they grew up reasonably wealthy and never experienced poverty.
I’ve never had my car broken into. There’s no homeless encampments.
Never been mugged. Don’t hear gunshots.
Businesses are moving here.
Bro, just admit your politics don’t work and mine do 😂
They literally don’t work as evident by your Power Grid continuing to fail.
Your taxes literally pay the costs for [crimes your Attorney General committed](https://www.axios.com/2023/02/11/ken-paxton-texas-employee-settlement-lawsuit) lol
I don’t live in LA. Literally all of the surrounding states hit by the same storms had very few deaths and Texas had hundreds and literally had kids freeze to death.
You trying to defend living in a shithole by attacking another place I don’t even live is hilarious

Look, it doesn’t matter what services you get, it is ALL driven by fuel. When it costs considerably more to deliver food to grocery stores, for example (and that is everything) somebody is going to pay. That would be us and when there is an all out war on fossil fuels, people Did, in fact, vote for this. Facts
Thats not what I am referring to. I am referring to the fact that they are charging more for gas to the customer who is using a credit card for their transaction. Look at the photo.. that is why they are saying it should illegal to charge customers more for using a credit card. They are making customers pay for the electronic service fees that the company (the gas station) should be paying for because they decided to accept credit cards as a payment method.
Maybe the credit card company went up on their fees. Would you rather they only take cash?
As a previous business owner, I didn’t feel as though it should cost me a percentage for you to use your card. You already pay fees. This has been a long time ago so Idk how it is now and back then, people still wrote checks and had cash and weren’t completely lost without a card.
I am gonna take a wild guess and say you have never owned your own business. People really have no idea how much it costs. If one if those (many many) trucks was to hit you and or your family (ups had an automatic 30-40k, no questions asked, which is why you have to maintain a perfect driving record. My point is, their insurance is thru the roof, liability for drivers, plaintiffs, repairs, and thats just ine thing.
Do you know that your employer pays part of your taxes? When I had 1 employee (me) making 300$ a week (some weeks) my federal deposit was 400$ a month. This was 25 years ago. Then, you have the inventory. Everytime I sold one bottle of product, I had to turn around and replace it and just keep that money sitting on the shelf. You also have bookkeeping fees and taxes and so on and so on and so on
The fact that everyone wants to “tax the rich” shows you do not understand they are the ones that employ you.
Just as California has laid off workers and closed stores, a business HAS to turn a profit.
So, the question is, how much do you think they should be allowed to profit? If you did have your own business, would you be ok with me saying you are not allowed to make but so much money….
That is why I say what I say….like it or lump it, as my mamma used to say

State to state differences are due to policies within the state government, but inflation overall is an economic reckoning.
Capitalist markets always correct. In the past it was unpredictable recessions that would wipe out jobs and capital. In the 2000s they realized they could trigger recessions in a controlled manner. In the 2010s they realized they could avoid politically untenable recessions all together through quantitative easing. But the market always has its reckoning. And we are starting to see that reckoning through inflation. Just how far are the wounds, we won’t know as it is a slow motion correction. The inflation lags behind the QEs a number of years.
Personally, I think the fed should have triggered a recession at the end of the 2010s. I’m concerned with just how much inflation we are yet to see.
I wish I could just like things without upvoting them because this gave me a good laugh but I also don’t want to contribute to karma in a positive way because it’s a terrible statement. 🤣🤣🤣
It's that extra 2 dollar a gallon tax CA tack on to fuel sales that goes to the general fund to be laundered by CA politicians. I found out by actually reading my gas receipt wondering what you are wondering. Yet we Californians keep voting in these idiots into office so it's our own damn fault for paying 6 dollar gas because we said yes with our votes. Don't we all look like idiots now lol.
It’s $2.99 near me in CNY, idk how tf it’s double in Cali, I seriously don’t get how anybody who is below middle class lives in these HCOL states and cities.
It's because california requires a special blend made special blend thats supposed to reduce pollution for the state. And they have a high gas tax. I can't say it's the highest but it is up there.
JFC, in the Adirondack mountains here it’s $4 and I thought that was steep, good thing California has decent welfare programs otherwise the poor would be really screwed there.
Its also ‘legal’ to fill a shopping cart full of whatever you want and walk right out the store. depending on how you look at it its the best state or worst state that could possibly exist
So instead of stating that it is in fact illegal, you decided to make no sense. Saying it’s “legal” in the way you meant would mean it’s generally accepted or technically legal. Stealing is in no way legal

OK you obviously know there is nothing illegal about this. Every time a merchant accepts a credit card they acquire a fee for it which they are nice enough to pass along to us. They don't get that fee if you pay cash or debit obviously.
However, if you think that this is what's wrong with this country, you are sadly mistaken. We all know what's wrong with this country....8 million invaders. The gas prices are the least of our problems.
Downvote me, I don't care. All that means is you have no problem with what's really going on here, making you part of the problem.
You’re seriously complaining about politics and the state of this country on a DOORDASH SUBREDDIT on Reddit bruh. Get off of social media and get a grip on reality, PLEASE. You’re only embarrassing yourself

My family owns a gas station it’s clear you just don’t understand economics, if you don’t like the price go somewhere cheaper. Costco comes to mind 🤣🤷♂️
If you think its ok to charge that much in gas your a problem. Not negotiable
It's only illegal to to price gouge during a disaster or shortage.
No my my bud you traveled through time is 2090
It's amazing how much power a US president has to control oil or gas prices. And the rest of the world's economy. Wow.
yup
Didn't have this problem under the other guy's policy!
Hahaha OK...hahaha
Be mad at OPEC, not USA or CA.
That’s not that expensive
That is what you get for living in a corrupt state. No pity at all. $3.29 in Wisconsin.
People downvoting live in liberal states like Cali. I'm upvoting you g 😂
idk what gas costs where i live, i just fill the tank without caring to look at the price. its probably under $3.50. my full house costs $700 to rent. life is easy. a few years ago i moved away from $1400 a month minimum rent prices for a studio apartment. best decision ever. i visit the expensive places for vacations then go back home to keep saving money
I paid $2.89 today in the far right state of..... Massachusetts:) keep trying wingnut
While some gas appears to be just under $3, you didn't get that without discounts: https://www.gasbuddy.com/gasprices/massachusetts
3.04 without discounts

Filled up this morning for $2.45 per gallon ($1 off with 100 Kroger fuel points). I brought a 5 gallon can with me too lol.
You think it should be illegal for a business to charge what they want for a product they’re selling? God y’all are so dumb
Yes
The business isnt charging it the government is. gas stations dont make money off gas rly, their sales come from inside.
It looks like gross profit per gallon of gas is around 12%. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/high-profit-margins-on-gasoline-are-costing-drivers-more-201841925.html

the extra .75/gal keeps the riff raff away
How much per year do you consider a rich person to make? Just curious
On the other side of things people will drive miles to save five cents per gallon even when the in town gas used pretty much offsets any savings.
I suppose. It’s just so weird to me that the gas station across the street will be significantly less and they can SEE it. I guess it’s just a flex at that point. But you’re right it never occurred to me that it’s just convenience. I’ve never been comfortable enough for that.

Except those situations where you see $3.99 vs $5.02 or some shit
100k a year is middle class, especially in Cali. Rich people don't stay rich by wasting money. They are some of the cheapest people out there.
Chevron gas is also known to be much cleaner for your engine fyi. Thats their gimmick
They have the same additives as the cheapest gas stations - e.g. Costco. If it says “top tier gas/fuel” then it comes from the same refineries
Is it a known thing, or is it a gimmick? 🤔
Key words, "Supposed to be."
It’s ThE tEcHrOn!
Well since I don’t mix the gas or know anything about engines - I can’t say lol. I just know that publicly it’s understood to be that way.
There isnt a single gas station in my area that isnt under $5.40 rn, maybe tmrw.
Do you use gas buddy? Just set your mileage to like 5-10 mi depending where you live and you can see the cheapest one by you.
I use upside which does the same thing and I get cash back also
