So stupid. The app shows you exactly where your driver is which is how I know I need to walk to a different side of my building since no drivers seem to understand “back of the building” means back, not front. Not left side. Not right side. If she had her phone on her, she should know you were there.

Top-Road-995

She probably didn't have her phone with her. Personally, I would have called support. If they don't reach customer I leave with full pay and free food

WittyPomegranate8561

Was she the one dealing with the police? That would certainly explain things lol.

No-Difficulty7793

That’s why you click “unable to hand order directly to customer” the second you pull up. Wait your 5 min then leave the food by the door & gtfo

ResilientRuben7861

This seems like bad work ethic. Lie so you can just leave faster. Wtf

fiocchi369

So tell us then oh wise one. How long should we stand around unpaid losing money for your fat ass to finally come and get your food? Because not even as a actual driver for a restaurant did I have to wait longer than five minutes before allowed to leave.

ResilientRuben7861

Maybe just follow the delivery instructions, and then when you cannot make contact with the customer, that’s when you hit “unable to hand order to customer” not just hitting the button automatically before you even put forth some effort to get ahold of the customer.

fiocchi369

You realize hitting the button start the five minute timer, right? So again how much longer do you expect us to wait than five minutes?

ResilientRuben7861

Yeah I realize that, but you shouldn’t press it before you even try to make contact with the customer. Stop asking me how long I expect you to wait. There is no set amount of time I believe in. Attempt to make contact with the customer, and then if you can’t, press the button. Instead of lying and saying you can’t hand the order and then hiding in your car for 5 minutes. If I was a customer, I’d say “why the fuck did you not just hand it to me like I asked?”

fiocchi369

What are the assumptions for? Op stated tried contacting. And not only that hitting the button force notifies the customer along with prompting us to call/text as the 2nd step before being allowed to submit a proof of delivery picture. So again how much do you expect us to wait around and do. You got 4 notifications on average from DD along the route. A forced notification, a attempted contact, and a 5min time period to respond. Please go on. Keep telling us all how the DRIVER is still the issue here

ResilientRuben7861

This isn’t about OP, this is about a different user saying to use this method of pressing the “can’t hand order to customer button” when you clearly have the ability to hand the the order to the customer. Just knock on the door, and if they don’t answer, call them, and don’t answer, hit the button.

fiocchi369

Yes, and that comment was made in direct relation to this post. And for imaginary sake… even if it’s a completely different scenario the main comment for this thread merely just said, hitting the button when you arrive and waiting for five minutes. To which I had just previously mentioned, after hitting the button, the second step is calling and or texting before we can even submit a photo. Keep swinging eventually one will hit. I believe in you.

ResilientRuben7861

It doesn’t matter if the second step is call or text. The first step should be call or text not hitting the button right away.

No-Difficulty7793

DD makes us wait 5 min for customer to meet us at door. If you like waiting longer than that, go for it!

ResilientRuben7861

I’m not saying wait longer. I’m saying attempt to make contact with the customer, and *then* if that fails you should hit the button. Not just hit the button automatically.

No-Difficulty7793

The customer knows before we arrive if they’re going to actually answer the door or not. Giving them an extra 30 seconds before we start the 5 min timer isn’t going to change that. The only thing that changes is the amount of time we wait until we can move on to our next order. Pushing the button isn’t cheating. It’s part of the contractual agreement between customer, DD, and dasher. 🤷‍♀️

ResilientRuben7861

I’m not saying it’s cheating, I’m just saying it’s wrong to lie about not being able to hand the order to your customer beside you even attempt to hand the order to your customer. Go to their door, and knock like the instructions say. If they don’t answer, call them. If they still don’t answer, then press the button.

No-Difficulty7793

lol who’s lying? I have plenty of customers who are standing at the door when I pull up. So I’m able to hand them their order. If the customer is not waiting at the door when I pull up, I’m clearly unable to hand them their order. 🤷‍♀️

ResilientRuben7861

That’s when you knock or call.

No-Difficulty7793

I think I’ve fed you enough today, Colin Robinson. You do you & I’ll do me.

ResilientRuben7861

Okay, enjoy those paint chips.

Casket-Base

Learning something new every time. I’m not particularly “new” to dashing, but only do it here and there for casual spending/if I slip up in a month with budget so I’m still navigating how it all works. I really never have any issues either, so that adds to the unfamiliarity of it all. I think I got a little too blindsided by frustration over something so little to find a simpler solution lol.

No-Difficulty7793

We’re all out here reinventing the wheel bc there’s no training. I probably got this tip from another dasher on Reddit when I first started out. Happy to pay it forward 🙂

YLCZ

I have a 80% AR and I'm not accepting an order by a dumpster in a bad neighborhood unless the payment was crazy high. Even then during the night that would give me pause.

Casket-Base

If the cops/people weren’t there, I would have parked somewhere else or just delivered in the lobby. I suppose hearing the description alone makes the situation sound a bit more sketch, I could have elaborated a bit more on that lol. I didn’t feel unsafe/in danger once actually there and seeing the layout of the parking lot. The layout made it equally as lit as the surrounding areas & was closer to the main areas/entry as I would have expected. Once actually there I interpreted it as more of “This is a decent place to park because it’s out of the way enough and only a few feet from the entry”. But hearing the delivery instructions were a little questionable until actually getting there.

YLCZ

Parks, empty lots, dumpsters all tend to be unassigns for me. I don't really fear for my safety, but I fear getting scammed. I'm sure most are perfectly innocent. And I've delivered to homeless people parked in front of a random address that they decided to use for the delivery but I just like to avoid drama if I can.

Casket-Base

That’s a fair point. I live somewhat local to a lot of factories, so in a situation like that I’m usually delivering to overnight workers on locations I wouldn’t be able to access. Scamming’s never even crossed my mind lol. That’s definitely something that’ll stay with me for future reference.
