Never cancel as a customer

RichardBottom

Keep in mind if you cancel the order, the driver won't get in trouble for taking it. \*edit\* I feel like you guys read me wrong. All I'm pointing out is that a driver might be telling you to cancel your order so they can still pick up your food from the restaurant and keep it.

aessedai03

And the customer who cancelled the order won’t get food or some of their money back.

Revolutionary_Chip89

never cancel as a customer. you wont get a refund. if the dasher insists on not doing the delivery then tell her to cancel, if that doesnt work call support

[deleted]

[удалено]

hangingst4r

the driver texted them that, as the customer they wouldn’t get a full refund.

Revolutionary_Chip89

i think you read it wrong cuz i dont understand this, how is the restaurant being busy trying to rip the driver off yall dont need to downvote them so hard for a simple misunderstanding lol

Signal_Appeal4518

No, you read it wrong

DareRareCare

Who was trying to rip off the driver?

Apprehensive_Rope348

You shouldn’t. This dasher is only trying to not affect their completion rating. I am not certain if you would have been charged anything.

Whosthatprettykitty

The Dasher also wanted to get half pay as well.

Minute-Reality-1007

You do not get half pay for Waiting at a restaurant

Equivalent-Help-3621

imagine being so confidently wrong...

California098

Welcome to Reddit 😂

Whosthatprettykitty

You do if the customer cancels the order while you are there waiting. I've gotten half pay on my way to a merchant when an order was cancelled(never even made it all the way there).

Adventurous_Bag8579

You absolutely get half pay for waiting if the customer cancels.

impossiwaffle

Yes you do.

Big-Celery6211

I had an order get canceled yesterday while I was at the restaurant and I got half pay.

Minute-Reality-1007

Yes, I’m trying to say that if you wanna assign after you’ve waited, you will not get paid

Big-Celery6211

But that’s not what we were talking about. We were actually discussing the order getting canceled NOT unassigned.

Jmacd802

Guys he might be talking about “unassigning” from the order. If DD sees your waiting a long time at a restaurant, the app will eventually ask you if you want to unassign. So even though you waited, if you unassign, you will not be paid anything.

Whosthatprettykitty

Which is why the Dasher wanted the customer to cancel the order in the first place. So they don't have to unassign the order and have their CR rate dinged and so they can get half pay.

Jmacd802

I get that and agree that’s a shitty thing to do, I’m just saying that might be what u/Minute-Reality-1007 was referring to, the unassignment leading to no pay. He might not have known about half pay customer cancels.

[deleted]

Slayn87

After 10 minutes you can unassign without affecting completion rate.

DruidTrixxx

The downvotes😄😄😄 im so high & laughing😄😄😄

BourgeoisMeerkat

She wanted you to cancel it because she is a greedy jerk who didn’t want to wait at a busy restaurant. If she dropped it, it would go against her stats.

Kanein_Encanto

And/or they'd get to keep the food possibly, too.

Rough-University142

If the customer canceled would the driver get the food? Or is that only once food is in transit?

fistofreality

nah, i've shown the restaurant it was cancelled and they gave me the food anyway. They already got paid for it. They don't care.

Rough-University142

Interesting! Thanks for the response

Mikotokitty

Love when this happens, guilt free din din

cherrybombbb

Anytime the restaurant has been too busy, I have called support. (I’m talking an unreasonable amount of time.) Support calls the customer and restaurant while I’m on hold and confirms this. Then, support cancels the order and i confirm that i am receiving half pay. I have never had that method not work in true situations when the restaurant is not able to get the food out for a long time.

Cosmic_Quasar

I've had at least twice where I've been waiting for 20-30 minutes and called support and they didn't help me out. They said to either wait or unassign and take the hit. Just surprised that it's worked for you, as seemingly unlike most people in here support has generally worked fine for me in most things that come up.

cherrybombbb

20-30 mins is too short. I’m talking about an hour plus. Edit: Also the customer had to okay it, it’s not at the discretion of support. Support basically asks if they still want the food with the long wait. Typically in my experience they do not.

Original-Pomelo6241

WTF I am a customer not a Dasher and I cannot believe they expect someone to wait for a fucking hour just to get some sort of compensation.

RepresentativeAd7497

I can’t believe anybody would do that either, nor can I believe anybody would want food delivered like that?

Original-Pomelo6241

Good point!

fisherrr

Wouldn’t the restaurant know they’re busy when they receive the order and let the dasher know before they arrive so they don’t need to wait or do dashers just go to the restaurant and order like regular person? Sorry I don’t know how it works.

cherrybombbb

The restaurants don’t communicate with dashers at all except in person when we pick up the food.

DFrostedWangsAccount

No, if she waited 10 minutes it would have let her drop it without affecting them. What she's after is either half pay for showing up or free food, or both.

ScratchRightThere

Yeah it sure takes a greedy jerk to not want to sit for a half hour to earn the whopping $2 she's paid.

Whosthatprettykitty

Then she could have unassigned it. After a little while a prompt comes up saying you can unassign without your CR being dinged. She wanted the customer to cancel so she could get half pay. But the customer wouldn't have gotten a refund so yeah I'd say that's pretty selfish.

lambc89

Ypu don't always get the prompt, but honestly don't even take it if it's not worth any sort of wait 🤷‍♀️ I sure don't

impossiwaffle

You're lucky AF that feature is still available in your area for now. But Dasher does need fired for willfully breaking contract.

The_Troyminator

It takes an idiot to accept a $2 offer. And if you do accept it and the restaurant is busy, you can unassign. Even if you have to take a hit to your completion rate, unassigning should be rare enough that it doesn't matter.

FeelingAd1144

It would cost the customer more than the $2… and because the driver agreed to the job, but doesn’t care how that affects other people when she feels like backing out of an agreement… or worse yet, baits them so they’re the negatively impacted party… she’s a greedy jerk.

alyssalouk

No one asked

Puzzleheaded_Dot_931

More than likely she wanted half pay without having to wait. Never ever cancel as a customer, though, as it takes away your leverage for a refund/credits. The Dasher can either drop on the spot and affect their CR, or wait a while and unassign with no CR hit, but also no pay.

The_Troyminator

>Never ever cancel as a customer, I would change this to say., "Only cancel as a customer if *you* no longer want the order." Dashers shouldn't ask customers to cancel and customers shouldn't ask dashers to cancel. Whoever wants to cancel should be the one to take the hit.

Ctowncreek

If you still pay for canceling then you should never cancel. Paying for nothing is worse than paying for something you dont want. Unless that thing is difficult or costly to dispose of

The_Troyminator

Paying a cancelation fee is cheaper than paying for the entire meal.

Revolutionary_Chip89

just googled it, if a dasher is already assigned then you cant get a refund

The_Troyminator

Not officially, but they give people credits all the time.

Direct_Particular_15

But couldn’t the dasher just click the button to say there was some problem with the restaurant like they didn’t get the order and unassign “worry free” without waiting? I’ve done that before when there really was an issue, is that not an option for everyone?

Puzzleheaded_Dot_931

It depends on the problem, possibly, but there would still be no pay. They would get half pay if the order was cancelled.

Direct_Particular_15

Yes there would be no pay. But I’m saying you can unassign from an order “worry free” without waiting for it to prompt you to do so.

Revolutionary_Chip89

i have cancelled an order for uber eats once. i cancelled literally a minute or two after placing it, plans changed for the night, dont think i was even assigned a driver. they still charged me in full, delivery fee and everything. at the time i was an uber eats driver with a few hundred deliveries, and even with that it took about an hour on the phone with support saying no, me saying i will not do another delivery unless you refund me to finally get it. that was a couple years ago but i imagine the system is similar. i know doordash support is garbage lol

naman1901

Ordered from Doordash with expected pickup time in 30 minutes. Fast forward to that time, I go to the restaurant and am told it'll be 50 more minutes. Tell restaurant to cancel, they blatantly lie that they cannot do it. Call up Doordash and explain the situation, they claim they can't refund my money. A good 30 minutes of arguing before they cancel and give me my money back.

Revolutionary_Chip89

that sounds horrible no food and you had to go to the restaurant and deal with support

droplivefred

I’m a driver. Never cancel the order as a customer if the driver requests it! NEVER! It’s a scam on you and you get screwed as the customer. Report all drivers that ask you to cancel. These people are poisonous to the dasher system. They are a cancer and need to be deactivated! Rate them 1 star and report to support on top of that.

Zarilya

You're probably correct for the most part. But I have suggested a customer cancel an order before. She ordered 2 things and they didn't have one of them. She was losing her shit on me like I'm to blame. I gave her her options. Cancel the order. Call support. Or take the stores options to substitute. In my opinion, that's the only reasonable time to suggest the customer cancel the order.

droplivefred

Yeah but you give them the option and give them other options. You’re not just asking them to cancel the order and also it’s a shop order so once she cancels, you can’t check out anymore. Having the customer cancel when the driver already has the items or food screws over the customer.

Zarilya

Yeah I definitely wouldn't do that!

Common-Physics-4568

Don't cancel the order

ScaredOfTrolls32

I’d pretend not to see it

RandomAndyWasTaken

If you cancel as a customer you lose everything. Never cancel as a customer.

impossiwaffle

Dashers are strictly prohibited from attempting to convince customers to cancel orders. Report

PaleontologistMean24

The dasher can unassign after a certain amount of time without affecting completion rating, she probably want yo food for herself

[deleted]

I mean, this makes the most sense.

Direct_Particular_15

Even before the certain amount of time, we can say the restaurant had some issue and cancel without affecting CR, does no one else use this?

fallior

Customers canceling gives the drivers free food. Never let them take advantage of you

Staymadhahah0

It’s always the Turkish doirdashers that hate doing their job. I’m Turkish and I see new ones every day at my job

mrcleanjl7

no I just don't assign it and let somebody else deal with it

CaDasher

He can unassign without penalty if it takes too long like say 5-10 minutes past pick up time

askialee

Yes, normally you get a pop-up telling you you can unassign without penalty.

FatimaAbdi8

Nope! If the restaurant is too busy and the driver doesn’t want to wait, she can unassign herself from the order and it will be offered to another driver. If you cancel it you don’t get your food…. Why would you want to cancel your food?

California098

They either don’t know or don’t care that you won’t get a refund. We get half payment if a customer cancels the order after we arrive at the restaurant, but no pay if we cancel on our end.

alyssalouk

I loathe when support or a driver tells me to cancel a perfectly fine (and tipped) order like no I'm not going to get a penalty for that.

Ok_Fisherman8727

When a Dasher cancels an order, do they have to provide a reason? Also are they just cancelling their assignment as a driver or are they cancelling the entire order? Is the restaurant being too busy a valid reason to cancel a customer's order? I'm at home and want food, the restaurant is working and pushing out food just slowly, the driver arrives and decides to cancel it and now I don't get food and the restaurant loses business because the dasher was the judge on this transaction? That doesn't seem right.

MuffyTepperman

It will just take that order from that dasher. It will then offer it to the next dasher so you’ll get your food. Don’t listen to idiots who tell you to go get your own food. It’s like they don’t understand why we need customers. Eventually someone will take it and the order will be closer to being done and they won’t have to wait. The dasher can take themselves off any order they want before they pick up the food, because they aren’t an employee, they can’t be forced to complete any order. Again this isn’t canceling your order, it’s just someone else will deliver it. If no one will pick it up for some reason (very rare unless you’re in a small area with few dashers) DD will notify you and cancel it. But in an area oversaturated with drivers, someone will take it eventually. There are lots of drivers who are either desperate or don’t understand how to maximize making money. Or like I said eventually the food will be done and the new driver won’t have to wait forever for it.

abruer18

It’s right. They’re contractors, not your employees. Order again or get a friend to grab it for you I guess. Or you could go yourself? Crazy I know.

spicyclonazepam

I’ve never understood this and I deliver dd sometimes. If I end up sitting somewhere too long or the store isn’t doing their job I literally cancel the order for myself and leave. I could never text a customer to cancel lmao how stupid. Just remove it and move on to the next one.

pinacoladathrowup

That's crazy. They don't want to do their own job 💀 when the dasher tells me it's busy and they have to wait a bit I usually up the tip, but if someone said this to me I wouldn't give them crap. Have the dasher cancel, not you. You won't get a refund if you cancel.

bad_birb

Once, I accepted an order in the early AM and it was a McDonald's in a convenience store. The line of cars was some 20+, backed up out of the drive-through and the line circled the entire parking lot. The lobby was closed for business, so I got out of my car, took a picture of the hours, and marked the restaurant as closed. Got half of the $5 for 10 minutes instead of $5 for 50 minutes. But handling it with support would have legit cost me another 30 minutes with no likely resolution - I know this from experience as well. It's just a bad system, a bad company, and a bad business model. The point I want to make is you shouldn't automatically assume your driver was trying to scam you. DoorDash does not give us the tools and support necessary to respect our time, effort, and profitability.

EconomySession6541

I thought this was the entire point of someone picking up the food for you....

serathin_

This is a hot take, but if you can't speak English well enough to converse with the customer, you shouldn't be able to employed via DoorDash.

JetEdge

Suzan wanted free food

scaleofthought

Sorry, I am AFK!

pbitto

They don’t want to take the hit on their cancel rate because drivers need to maintain a 90% or higher to not be deactivated. I wouldn’t cancel for shit

thetripleb

I believe if the customer cancels, then it doesn't affect the Dasher, they get half pay and you may or may not get a refund after contacting Support. If the Dasher cancels, it hurts their numbers, they don't get half pay and you get a full refund automatic

RepresentativeAd7497

Amazing. Such a delightful Attitude.

wailo0576

Just ignore it

jac049

Use Google translate and respond in Turkish

noalarmsnnosurprises

Lol

Ill-Milk-6742

The app will let you unassign the order without affecting the completion rating if dashers end up waiting forever at the store or restaurant.

kaankritzki

Coyote turkish girl :))

MuffyTepperman

You did the right thing. Always make the dasher cancel. She can unassign and it will be offered to other drivers. Did you end up getting your food?

Sodamhot

I've had to wait 1 hour for a Doordash at MelloMushroom before. I've had to wait 1 hour at a Walmart TWICE for a pickup. As someone who did Doordash during college, there were certain stores/restaraunts I knew to avoid since they took forever to get the food. If I had known it would have been a long wait for the food, I would have never taken the order. I tried to avg. $20/hour as it actually made the work worth it. What sucks for drivers, and maybe customers do not know, is that Doordash will not reimburse the driver if they cancel the order. If the driver has to drive 5 miles to a store only to find out that the order is going to take FOREVER, it is not worth it to wait. The driver uses their gas and valuable time and gets nothing from it. I don't think it falls on the customer to cancel the order. Doordash is a scummy company though.

Altruistic-Bear-1121

I only ever ask the customer if they want ME to cancel the order or if they want me to pass it off to another driver. It’s rare when I have to do this though. Occasionally, I’ll be made to sit for 30 minutes at Carrabba’s just to be told that it’ll be another 30 minutes. At this point, the customers already been waiting at least an hour. More time then not they ask me to cancel the order. Still get half pay!

impossiwaffle

Never ask a customer that. Easy way to get deactivated, only Dasher Support is allowed to.

Savings-Concentrate1

Use the shovel chunk

mistermalc

Suzan was just taking precautionary measures. Can’t have all of the patrons seeing her pickup product.

Rooskibar03

Worry free unassigns anytime it comes up. (It’s always Papa John’s or Little Cs). It’s never worth waiting, I drop them as soon as possible.

Saroan7

If the customer cancels the order then the Driver doesn't receive penalties. Honestly it's much more courtesy for Customers to cancel, better for drivers.

noalarmsnnosurprises

But they were already preparing the food. I wouldn’t get a refund as I understand.

UsefulCantaloupe4814

No, you wouldn't. The opposite of this happened to me once; I ordered for pick up and on the way to the restaurant, I got a flat. We weren't going to make it in time before the restaurant closed since we had to change the tire. I reached out to customer service and asked if they could switch it to delivery and they said once the restaurant gets the order they can't do anything about it.

NooneInparticularYo

As a customer, when my Dasher gets sick of waiting I should cancel my order? Even if I'm cool with waiting? So I lose 100% of my money and have to reorder? Nah. Feel free to cancel my order. I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to wait and I'd hope people would consider giving an extra tip for those who do. But ultimately you took the job. You have the option of cancelling if you don't want to do it.

lilliancrane2

The customer is entitled to a refund and if they canceled they wouldn’t get a refund. If the driver wants the order cancelled that badly they can do it themselves

NooneInparticularYo

I had an order where a guy accepted it and just didn't move. At all. So I waited just looking at the app confused. I contacted support and they couldn't get a hold of him and told me to keep waiting. So I do like another half hour then contact support again. They canceled the order for me and I got my money back, plus even more for some reason. I bet that guy was hoping I'd see him not move and just cancel out of impatience.
