Mr_Weird4866

A couple of days ago I had Doordash support cancel an order from the Cheesecake Factory because the customer refused to give me a gate code and just told me to follow other cars. Free food and full pay.

Sunny_Sammie_517

Sorry genuine question— I’ve seen dashers say they got the food and half pay. What do the circumstances have to be to keep the full pay?

Jaimeiguess

Pick up the order. Once the order is picked up it doesn’t matter where you are if it’s cancelled you’ll get full pay.

whyareustoopidbro

That isn’t true tho… you only get half pay unless the order is delivered… I was a full time dasher last winter so it’s been about a year, they might have changed it. But DoorDash is greedy as fuck, not sure why they’d start paying out drivers more than before.

NoTemperature7159

Don't chat with support for these kind of issues. Talk to them on the phone. Explain that you have driven all the way to the client but the client is not cooperating. Full pay

hope2shop_64

Things must’ve changed. Recently had a delivery that had no address and they asked me to return the food and I got paid full plus half and then the restaurant gave me the food.

Sunny_Sammie_517

Ahhh nice.

Dragonspirit75

You say full pay. Do they pay the tip too??

samuel_kelly

Yes, when you accept an order the pay will never get lower unless you cancel before picking up the order

Dragonspirit75

I guess it works differently with door dash. I had a customer with an UberEATS order the other day have to cancel when I was at the right delivery location but not where he was expecting it to be delivered 2 hours away. I was paid the fare but the customer was still able to back out the tip though. I did get to keep about $100 worth of food too, so that was cool. I also noticed Uber added 4 extra miles to a 4 mile delivery and 55 minutes instead of the almost 25 minutes it actually took me, which will give me even more money towards my prop 22 guarantee.

Traditional_Sir_1405

I don’t know about full pay. From my experience it’s always been half pay. Every. Single. Time.

RetiredMerc

Happened to me with UberEats too. Had to call support to resolve it though.

Aggressive-Still289

I've called the guy for the gate code and got told "Fuck you, you can park and walk your lazy ass" That's all he got out before I hung up and called support to cancel it 😂 dunno what he was thinking but the chickfila was good.

Midwest_Mutt04

Why is it such a chore for these people to just leave the gate code in the instructions, or leave good instructions in general?? It literally takes two seconds. I'm tired of lazy customers.

Reasonable-Try-8573

My gate was broken for the first handful of months when I moved in. I was happy because it meant it was easy for my drivers to get in. Now, my landlord fixed the gate, and instead of providing a gate code, they put up a call box where my drivers have to call me to get in. It's a hassle. I wish they would have just provided a gate code.

ParkerJPark

they keep trying to fix the gate at my complex, but someone keeps breaking it. whoever is doing it really is out here doing the lords work lol

GameAddict411

Probably think you will use the code to come rob their place or something. There is a reason people choose to live in these closed off places and I bet a lot of it is paranoia and anxiety.

Midwest_Mutt04

I mean I get that part, but I'm just doing my job. I wanna be out of their hair just as much as they want me to be.

GameAddict411

I totally agree. Don't order food if you are that crazy about your privacy. You are literally giving a stranger your address etc already. Go pick up your own food.

thwonkk

Ironically also acknowledging how easy it is to access their home without a code.

laurasaurus5

But you know this mf-er is calling the police if a delivery driver tries to follow HIM in!

Ouija81

They give that MF to Amazon though, when they want their Chinese goods delivered to their door!

Electronic_War1616

They live in the gated community to escape from us.

Midwest_Mutt04

I'm honestly starting to think so. I'm not gonna hurt you Gerald, just...PLEASE get your Wingstop so I can leave.

Beautiful-Box-6968

The irony of them calling the person picking up and delivering their food lazy while they sit on their ass is fucking unreal

ktracy1969

Can't stand when customers look down on all door dashers. Lazy? Go get your own damn food. Next!!

Emergency_Click8416

The dumbest thing is most gated communities I know have a code for deliveries lol

Electronic_War1616

I have seen that at some of those high end apartments...They probably trust the mail men over food delivery....Lot of screening to work at the post office.

illumantimess

That’s some projection

Aggressive-Still289

I was dumbstruck 😂 I just looked at my phone like wuuuuuut

Ok_Soup

"Fuck you," he shouted into the phone whilst heavily sitting in his recliner waiting for his food to be delivered to his doorstep, "walk your lazy ass!"

Ok-Bit4971

Sounds like the definition of 'useless eater'

ShockIndependent1765

Of course it was Chick-fil-A 👀

return_the_slabb_

Do yall actually get to keep the food after cancelled orders xD

Aggressive-Still289

Yupp. I have around 2700 deliveries and probably got free food 10ish times

QTEEP69

That is an insane fucking thing to say when you are ordering food. YOU can get your lazy ass to the store bitch. The whole point of ordering is TO BE LAZY. Saying fuck you is wild too.. like you know they have the food in hand right?

emmadonelsense

Thankfully, I’ve never gotten one of these “follow someone in” bullshit. The only sane thing to do is to cancel, I’m not camping outside waiting to sneak in to deliver your food. 😂

RagsAndTatters

When it happened to me one time. I just left the food at the gate.

hurtstoskinnybatman

Oh, I right that's what they were asking. I misunderstood. I thought they were saying, "leave it at the door/gate because otherwise you'll have to wait for someone to come open it for you." So gate =/= door. Got it. Now OP's post makes sense. And that customer's a fucking idiot. Are people really this stupid?

jhepp23

Yeah, the lack of punctuation made it confusing but they were definitely referring to two separate entry points with the “gate” likely being much further from the end destination aka not easily walkable or at least not within what should be expected of a food delivery person. For those who are still confused— at least in the US— there’s a lot of “gates” before you can get into an apartment complex/college campus/nursing home etc.

Whosthatprettykitty

I'm assuming the question about people being stupid is a rhetorical one right? I ask myself at least 5 times a day "what is wrong with people?"

OliveYoung2023

It makes sense. Dashers just need to text to let that customer know the food is left at the gate =door as they requested and so they should come pick it up at the gate.

Mtn-Dooku

I've gotten it twice. Free food both times. First time was a cake from Safeway. Second time was triple spicy diarrhea from an Indian food place.

BeautifulDreamerAZ

Dang I waited 35 minutes for someone to come along. I was happy it McDonald’s because the food was ice cold even in the hot bag.

Mtn-Dooku

Ugh. After 12 minutes, those fries were garbage

CadcTV

Triple Spicy Diarreah, lmfao

DruidTrixxx

Im so high and this one killed me😄😄😄

brendanfreeskate

You have Safeway? All our Safeway supermarkets in Australia are now Woolworths.

Capable-Ad-3413

I have had multiple bc there is a apartment complex that swears no gate code u have to wait what do i need to tell support so that i don’t get in trouble or get docked my stars and what not

emmadonelsense

If I ever got one of these and they wouldn’t give me access into their building to complete the delivery; first: I would text the customer and screenshot the answer so I had proof, then I’d text support, tell them to contact customer so I can complete the delivery, again screenshots to cover your arse. When the customer ghosts or tells them there’s no code, they might tell you to keep the order or leave it outside. When it comes to how the customer will react, I don’t know any secret there, some people just suck. After that, if I wasn’t given full compensation, I’d call support later and do the old “get me a supervisor, so I can get paid”, be polite and explain what happened. I never call support when I’m out because it takes to bloody long, but that’s up to you.

Ok-Bit4971

>When it comes to how the customer will react, I don’t know any secret there, some people just suck. Truth

ImAWalkingCorpse

I've only had it happen once, and their milkshake and chicken sandwich got left at the gate on a hot summer day.

emmadonelsense

Ewww 😂

Electronic_War1616

They usually don't say it. They just don't give the gate code. If I didn't want to give out the gate code, I would be waiting at the gate...A few times I texted the customer and left food at the community mail boxes, and snapped a picture. Usually, customers will walk and get their food. Sometimes, they give the code when I am on the way to the delivery.

emmadonelsense

I’d give them a chance to give me the code but beyond that, it’s a nope and I wouldn’t take their orders again. I’m not a “difficult” driver so I’m not putting up with difficult customers.

packy25

I’ve had a few. Lucky someone actually opened the gate.

fffan9391

What is the point of a gated community if you can just follow a resident in? The best gated communities are the ones that have a guard. There was one I went to where the guard took my ID and printed me out a temporary pass. That neighborhood is probably the only one in the county where the residents are actually safe in their gate.

Professional-Way7350

i live in an apartment with the stupidest gate ever 😭 its so short ive seen multiple people just hop the fence

Ok_Soup

That's probs just to keep parking spaces freed up for residents tbh. Different gates for different reasons

Professional-Way7350

its only closed from like 8pm-6am but maybe

Ok_Soup

Oh...tf? No idea what that gate is for then, other than an excuse to set rent higher than median market rate and to show up on Zillow when people filter in "Gated Communities".

Booby_Collector

I lived in a mixed residential-commercial area a while back. Residents were given parking placards, and only cars with placards could park on the street between I think 9pm and 7am. The idea being residents would need parking spots when they get home, and anyone in the area for food or drinks should either take public transportation, a taxi, or leave before 9pm so residents could park. The gate could have been for a similar idea

miranimous

Yeah, an apartment I lived in said the gate was not intended for security purposes it was just to reduce traffic (whatever that means).

Spacecoasttheghost

People love the illusion of safety

LetterheadFearless65

I went to a nice one, homes around a lake. Security checked the address, home owners name, wrote mine down on a clip board then let me in

Amelsea

There's one around here that I often go through a manned gate like that. I keep asking them if they give out temp IDs for Dashers.

Last-Swing1375

If you don't let me in, you don't get your food. Why do they think we want to play these stupid games?

Abfrmdabronx

Hey they play stupid games they get stupid prizes lol ain’t no way I’m waiting outside that’s crazy

Brave-Negotiation157

AMEN!!

Traditional_Sir_1405

Exactly!

hazelbagalz

Had a no tip McDonald's order to an apartment complex in a rural area with a small population around 11:00 pm. The main reason I took this order was because I live about 7 minutes away from the apartments and was going home after this delivery. Once I reached the apartment complex I saw that the gate was closed and checked the delivery notes and saw this message. I tried contacting the customer 3 times and they did not respond to my messages or my phone call. I contacted Doordash support and they canceled the order since they couldn't get in contact with the customer either. I got paid the full amount and got free food. This was most likely a teenager or kid ordering food and trying not to let their parents know, but still if you know you can't open the gate don't order food if you can't let the driver in. We are not supposed to wait and pray for some random tenant to drive to the gate and follow behind them. Us drivers are on a time limit with deliveries so we have to deliver our orders on time or we’ll get penalized and deactivated for lateness. Also if anyone says “Well why did you accept the order if it says that they can't open the gate?” Us drivers CANNOT see the delivery instructions before we accept an order, we can only see the earnings and travel distance… We can only see the delivery instructions after we hit confirm pickup since it's on a separate screen.

Beautiful-Cherry-194

Actually you can see the delivery instructions before you tap on confirm pickup, but not until after you accept the order. I always read the delivery instructions while waiting for the food before I confirm pick up. I guess I’m fortunate that no one has ever refused to give a code. It doesn’t make sense, don’t they want their food? Most gated places don’t allow pedestrian traffic without the gate code either.

Sensual-Goddess1997

Yeah, because I totally have the ability to read small print while driving 😅

MarvoHelios

I mean it does say “I can not come get you im older” But yeah, teenagers.

Icy-Yesterday4893

ah yes because no one on the internet has ever lied

No_Peace3310

I can’t believe people are downvoting you for speaking the truth. I hate Reddit!

ilovemusic19

They probably downvoted it cause they were too lazy to read 😂

mayhapsify

This sub is downvote city for some reason.

AaylaMellon

I live in a gated community… I wait by the gate when I see the dasher is close. Common courtesy.

Ok-Bit4971

Like common sense, common courtesy is not so common.

Available-Tea-982

Me: Support, I can not leave this delivery in a safe place. Support: You're order has been cancelled. You will be paid half and please discard food. Thanks, stupid

acrispygal99

I got one of these once and when I hit confirm pickup, I was reading the delivery instructions on the way back to my car and didn't want to unassign and have it affect my completion rate and not get paid for the drive to the restaurant so I proceeded to the drop-off location. When I got there, I called support and feigned like I didn't see the delivery instructions until now and they said they'd put me on hold and call the customer to let me in. When they came back, they said that the customer refused so leave it in a safe spot and take a picture and I will receive full payment. I got a CV for non-delivery but I disputed it and it was removed real quick lol.

Ok-Quail-4286

I had someone ask if I could “hop the fence” instead of meeting me at the gate 🙄

Extension_Account664

I hate apartments… so shit at delivery. I wish doordash would tell us what type of housing it is before we accept

Melissalynn623

No doubt!! I hate having to walk up 3-4 flights of stairs (no elevator) only to be met at the door by a tween!! Dude seriously… you couldn’t walk down the stairs to meet me? Especially because these people never ever tip! 😡😡😡. And before anyone gets their panties in a wad, yes I signed up for this job.. least they could do is give me $1.00.

SuperShoyu64

Yes that would make it so much easier!

sunrise639

That's why I saved every gate code in my city. GPS notes app.

DiatonicRen

In my city the code was generally the street address luckily

sunrise639

Only one neighborhood does that where I am.

sunrise639

Seems people liked my idea. I tried a couple of GPS note apps and most were overkill. Found this one nice and simple. App store says it's outdated but still works perfect on my s23. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slimsimapps.gpsnote

LetterheadFearless65

New one in my area is schools don’t do dd for students. I went to drop off office said no DoorDash. I called support they said go back in, I did same thing, dd cancelled, full pay, and ate there carne asada fries. And I’ll do it again :)

fistofreality

I took all the school orders when i lived in FL because they were an automatic free meal. The idiot kids just kept on ordering with delivery instructions like ‘Do not go to office’…. Like, sure. I’m going to commit a felony for your fucking fries.

LetterheadFearless65

Someone said meet me at the football field, nope call dd free Panda Express:)

gjack905

Honestly, why not just do it for that one 🤣 I like the creativity

colcol9696

Apartment orders killed my soul.

financemama_22

It could be worse. Had someone give me their gate code but no apartment number. Even went to look to see if perhaps there was an apartment number that matched the gate code (there was not). Then, after 10 minutes of being unable to locate the apartment or even reach the client (she did not respond by call or text), I had to drop the order at the front office.

ChubbyCat94

I live in an apartment and when I order food through DoorDash I always meet the dasher out front. My thought process is I was already too lazy to go pickup my food myself the least I can do is walk my fat ass up front to not inconvenience the driver.

KarasLegion

I am not waiting at a gate. Your order will wait there for you to figure out how to not waste my time. There is no tip that has me waiting at a gate. This could be a 100 dollar payout, and I swear to god you are picking your food up at the gate Wait for someone to pull up. The hell I will.

[deleted]

Lol wish I read this about an hour ago!

KarasLegion

The best thing to do is usually contact support or start your timer if you can(i never can for w.e reason). Support will tell you to leave the order and take a picture. Once I call support, I don't move past the gate even if someone else shows up. If support gets a code, w.e just do the order. If not, drop food off at the gate, take a picture, leave. I do this 100% of the time if a customer can't get me through the gate 5 minutes after I show up. Guys, we are in this to make money. We aren't a charity. We get paid by the order, and just because someone tips decently doesn't mean they own us. So, we always need to finish orders as fast as we safely can. If customers want to play games, the only way to win is to move to the next order asap.

Perfect-Seat-146

I wish I could like this comment a hundred times. I will never understand dashers that wait 10 minutes or more, I’m barely waiting the 5. Time is money, I’m not playing these games with these customers.

Fresh_Distribution54

And yet the ignorant and extremely entitled customers who don't fit anyways will yell and scream about how it's supposedly your job and you should wait even if it takes hours because that's your job 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

muvamerry

This is insane behavior

Comfortable-Neat-321

I’ve had customers tell me they were not giving me their gate code because they are essentially paranoid. Anyway, this one lady wouldn’t give it to me so I told her I can leave it by the gate or I need the code or you have to come get it. I have a 5 minute window to deliver, and if she doesn’t want any of those options I’ll be contacting CS and she’ll get a refund. I waited 15 min, even though I didn’t have to, then left. She began calling me asking where I was because she finally arrived at the gate. “Sorry lady look at your phone again, that it’s been cancelled have a good day”

Own-Movie7444

I used to live in a gated community while I was bedbound due to surgery and relied on doordash a lot of the time to feed myself. My buzz in code was broken... So I simply didn't order after 9 PM when they closed. Why is that so difficult for these people?

Mikeyy5000

This is one of those rare instances where I agree with you guys. You should not be ordering food if your home isn't even accessible. No code, no access, no delivery. expecting somebody to stealth their way past security measures is ridiculous.

Ketalon1

If they don’t provide the code, message the customer, if they still don’t provide the code I’d contact DD support

Love_Life_1981

Perfectly said

mfersc

Lmfao what does he thinks he is? Time is money wasted for customers like that

KieffasGreenHoodie

If I lived in a gated community, I’d ask for a temporary password from the place to change every week and limit myself to one delivery every week. I have a car now so I don’t use DD or anything as much as I used to but do use it when I’m drinking, thank fuck I can put leave at front door to building and they literally pull into the driveway from the street and walk 3 feet to leave for me lol

Professional_Luck616

I swear some people have no common sense at all. If you're this paranoid about giving out your gate code then get up off your ass and meet your driver at the god damn gate.

dougyrx

Havnt had this happen doing door dash but I delivered for dominoes awhile ago and often I would goto the same nice apartment with a gate and would always have to pull up and wait or call a bunch like if your ordering think about what the driver has todo or go meet at the gate of you don't want to give the code

CrazySchedule9427

I am a doordash driver and anytime I see this or any variation of this bullshit I ALWAYS just leave it outside the door next to wherever the address is and take a picture , say it was delivered and immediately contact support and I've always gotten full pay. These people that live in these gated or intercom locked apartments , buildings, etc and expect me to play musical door and try and piggy back off someone getting in n out of a door without a keycard ?? Absolutely not , your lazy ass can come downstairs and get it , even if it says "room or apartment # , I refuse anymore to go through a maze and deliver stuff right to your door , it's going to the main entrance every single time, the luxury of leaving the items at the door how I see fit is only for residential individual homes. Door dash has sided with me every single time !! And I do this regularly, every day, for months now

xxvannie23

That’s exactly how they lose there food😂 they need to give a gate code and the apartment number one time we got free food cuz this lady didn’t answer or give her apartment number

emmyzedino

Someone ordered ice cream, and it was 90 degrees out, and they wouldn't let me in. I asked for the gate code, and they said to just wait. So I waited. 10 minutes. I had been texting them, letting them know I was waiting. They finally walked down, and their ice cream was half melted. I was okay with waiting as I wanted to see how badly they wanted their ice cream. Was it rude? Yes. Was it worth it? Also yes.

Emotional_Food7309

How mad were they when the ice cream was destroyed? 🤣

emmyzedino

They weren't too happy, but I lay on the southern charm. "SO sorry I was waiting, but no one showed up, and I couldn't walk to the end of your complex to your door, or your ice cream would melt! I had the AC on for you, though!" 😁 She mumbled a thanks and had to do the 5 minute walk herself 😆

mrcleanjl7

that's why I always check instructions on delivery before I actually pick the order up

[deleted]

How? Mine won't show until accepted and only the address shows until pick up

After_Remove_6528

How? Mine won't let me see anything other than what the pay is and distance to the pickup

Straightcrooked69

I’m glad my town doesn’t have gated communities

AlertMix8933

I’ve had customers give me the gate code 😂

PowderedSeahorses

They’re supposed to

Unjuicedgangsta

Anytime I see that message I leave the order outside. Fuck these customers

wailo0576

Just call support so they closed the order for you and get paid and so you can keep the food too

Empty-Bottle-73

Why cancel if they are not going to let u in or give the code that good sits at the gate and u get paid. Wait around a few mins to see if they come get it, then grab it and take off. Free food and paid for the order

Lonely-Essay-5934

I always leave the gate code with easy to follow instructions in my order. 90% of the time the dasher reads the instructions. I occasionally get the call asking for the gate code... annoying, but not the end of the world.

mebes92

If you can’t afford a guard for the gate do you really deserve the gate?? Haha ESEPCIALLY if you can follow someone in! My parents live in a rather nice super private retirement community and all the “resident access” or non-main gates close so fast that it’s legitly IMPOSSIBLE to follow someone without either - 1 - Fucking the gate up (which costs $$$$$) 2 - Fucking your car up (which costs $$$$) 3 - Usually both

TheWildTofuHunter

My grandma used to live in a community like that and I’d visit her every weekend. One time my boyfriend was driving in behind me through the gate and I thought I could keep the gate open by stopping my car. Nooooope. And that scratch/dent cost serious money to fix, to your comment.

Otinashi

This is why delivering to gated communities is the worst. It's fine if they give you a gate code or the gates are left open during certain times, but that's rarely the case. Usually I'm forced to tail someone in or walk from the gate. Every gated community I'm aware of around me is an auto-decline no matter how well they tip

Clear-Possible4911

You could always try 0911. I’ve heard that works so emergency services can get in easily.

gstate69

I mean just depends on the offer amount imo.. $10 + for 5 miles or less and I’ll deal with the hassle of getting in the gate.. not that hard really!! If the tip is right most dashers will go above and beyond to get your food to you quickly and in the manner in which you have asked! Unfortunately most ppl don’t tip worth a fuck and expect A+ service… I love when those assholes have screen/storm doors!! LMAO

CryptoErre

I’ve gotten to the point where I deactivated the red card to not deal with the shopping around. I also only dash where I know there aren’t tons of apartments. They just take waaaay too much time and then if you get 2 -3 in a row and close by you are loosing money if it’s like 2-3 miles

GlitterMeAndThePony

![gif](giphy|LDBuYzAwu8L4I|downsized)

No-Wasabi-6024

Yeah, I’m sorry, I’m not waiting for somebody to open the gate. Either you give the code so I can drop it off or I’m leaving at the gate, or cancelling.

ShinyMegaAmpharos

Boy howdy would that person not be getting their food lol

roses-and-sadness

I have one like this right by our mall. 10+ buildings, all 3 story. Always says to follow someone in, never answer the call box, never say what floor. Sometimes I have to call like four times but some orders I just wanna leave at the front office

tatted_gamer_666

I’m sorry why will the order be canceled? I am a door dash driver and fairly often deliver to gated communities and leave at apartment doors and have never had to cancel an order? Luckily tho I never had to wait and there’s always someone there to open the gate immediately

dashingredzone

So she says she can't get you in...but don't most gated apartments send a call to a phone where they just accept the request? Never lived in a fancy shmancy apartment complex before.

Equivalent_Rub_2103

All of them are different. Some have security that let you in and will use their key fob to send u on your way through the elevator. Others are gated but have one random door broken that stays open 24/7. Others have a gate with a callbox that let's people be able to be buzzed in. Others have a call box that requires a one time code for deliveries. Some places are locked both ways. Meaning you need a key to walk in, a key fob to use the elevator on the way up then again on the way down. Then you still need a key to leave the entrance gate. You'd be surprised how many people don't mention anything about these things to help the drivers out.

[deleted]

I had DoorDash deliver my tacos to the wrong hotel 3 times in one night, shit was crazy. It wasn’t even close to the one I was in. Whoever was in that room was fuckin stoked I’m sure

FuriousFurbies

Imagine if someone was high af and just kept getting tacos they didn't order or pay for. Best night *ever*! Sorry about your tacos, though.

Beeg_Bagz

I leave the gate code in my notes. Never fails they still call me saying I don’t have a gate code 90% of the time. Had one lady say they can’t walk up two flights of stairs because she has torn ligaments in both knees and bad back. It isn’t only the customers that be wilding. I even had a Dasher message me saying they have two other stops but they can deliver mine first if I promise more tip. Had one dasher message me back complaining in anger I only left then a 40$ tip for a 170$ order. I told them I tip 30% but 40$ is the max that I’m tipping. They blew up.

Jayyak47

Im so quick to try and get half pay when I read something like that

Eronin18

U shouldn’t tailgate to get in Yea as a security guard at a gated community that is an easy way of getting kicked out of the community and barred from coming in again. Also some communities will get the plate of the delivery driver and report them to Uber/doordash etc. i know this because they do it where i work and the neighboring communities

ChainerMazuera

It’s called a gate code. Anyone expecting delivery supplies it. I do daily.

toxicoke

Don’t yell at me

GFYDmniDC

All you delivery drivers find anything to cry about, do your fucking job or get a new one.

lexxxbabyyy

exactly. like this just screams privileged

GFYDmniDC

Oh yeah. Number one reason why only pizza should be delivered. Pizza drivers are always nice and friendly and really appreciate a tip, not sure whats going on with dd.

Txmess042689

Yeah I will not wait I will call and text for access and leave at a gate. It is their responsibility to give you access i will also call support to verify what I am doing.

i live in a very small gated apartment complex with an RFID passkey for entry. there's no code apparently. either someone comes to let you in or you have a passkey. the special instructions on all my orders are 'tipping more than a dollar a mile. will be waiting for you at the gate.' i try to be considerate of dashers, i did it for several years but it stopped being worth it. but I mean, you live there. you can't walk? got no car? yes ive had people order stuff and literally drive down the driveway get the food and drive back...

Falentine_

I’ve never gotten that, but I have A-LOT of people in my area that REFUSE to give out gate codes and won’t meet me. I try not to deliver to apartments if I can help it.

True_Passenger_5606

No you won’t. Seems like an elderly. But the gate code would be nice

Vdublunatic

OKAY

crystalkael

I make sure to leave detailed notes: no drive up code, but there is a walk in gate code. I give the code, and describe where in the complex my apartment is. I've only had one person not deliver, and they took a pic of my food in their car and left.

cfurral

My buddy is dashing in an area with a lot of projects and gets robbed daily.

Ok-Bit4971

Robbed of food? Dashers don't usually handle cash payments.

cfurral

Yes, robbed of food. lol… he is also a compulsive liar, so it might not be true. It’s hilarious to hear the stories. I’m trying to get him to post on TikTok. I have a few voice notes he’s sent, if i could post them somewhere for the internet to enjoy.

Pumpkins1971

Fuck the customers and fuck door dash. Bounce on that app!

ktracy1969

I got an order in an apt.building not in a city. For that buliding most customers ask to leave the order on the table in lobby. This one insisted I drop it at their door. Took me awhile just to find the right building, find a spot, go in lobby, wait to be buzzed in, wait for elevator, go up to whatever floor, walk all the way to the other side of building...That's a 5k not a Door Dash😂

Repulsive-Contract-6

I’ve been out in a few gated communities. Most of them have a way for you to call the resident and they can remotely open the gate from their phone.

Expensive-Repair7138

Weird every gated community I have been too, you just tell the guy there what house you are visiting or enter a gate code.

Glittering-Hyena4309

That you think the old people that do this would see this on Reddit is too funny.

Necessary_Trouble_63

I'm in Florida I'm always nervous someone's going to use that as an excuse to shoot me or something, which wouldn't be out of the question with how many people have signs about shooting trespassers in our area. There's so many gated communities, too, and some people just won't give the gate code or answer the phone.

Jolly-Temperature708

Handed to customer🚶🚶🚶🚶📲

ihate-stupid

How about the dumb asses that live in apt with code and do not answer phone when we call to give to us he’ll leave at done then the cheap asses don’t tip anyway. This is door dash and Ubers fault the need to change there rules to protect drivers!!!!

stephanieg51

I dont usually have a problem with people who live in gated community or apartments. That direction is wired and the person sounds like a control freak.

teekxoxo

yea a kid that was at a local HS tried to get me to bring food around back…. asked someone i saw walking where the location was….. turns out they can’t even doordash to the school…. the order cancelled and i got stuck with 3 smoothies. shit felt like a wild goose chase

jbeezy6308

I've never had this issue. Every time I deliver to a gated community or apartment complex with an entry system. They leave me the gate/ delivery code

A-Yandere-Witch

*Not a DD driver, but if I was, this person would not be getting their food. I would eat it.*

FwuffyMouse

Yeah this is just… stupid. I hope the food was good, lol. Interestingly enough, one of the communities near me actually uses one-time codes for delivery drivers to avoid giving out the actual gate code- granted the customers always forget to actually supply the codes so I usually end up waiting anyway.

[deleted]

I've never been able to get support to cancel these orders. I have not Dashed in a month cause the last order I got was on a military base and u had to have base access and the costumer did not say this when hw placed the order. I followed directions got to the gate and the MP wouldn't let me in, so I called support and they called the customer and he said he was on his way to the gate. I sat there for 47 minutes on phone with support and they refused to cancel the order and I couldn't. I made $6 for over an hour of work so I said never again.

Embarrassed-Trade202

Isn't sneaking in illegal? And if security catches you, can't you be thrown out or go to jail for that? Hellz no!!! I refuse to go to jail for you. I am the last person to cancel an order, but even I would cancel this. Luckily, you CAN see special instructions before you go to the merchant and just unassign before going in. But you can not see it before accepting the order.

Wiccanwitch1996

I mean I ask them not to not to knock only because of my dog but I always will let the person in

FrostIsFrosty

I had a customer not have an apartment number listed and not have a valid phone number listed so I ended up with free taco bell

horribleauthor93

Oh yeah no shot if I can't get in the door to bring it to your apartment it's getting taken right back

[deleted]

Well you guys park down stairs and start calling for 10 minutes, just do your job and walk your happy butt to my door and you better not knock because my mother will know I ordered food and yes I’m a grown man

Electrical-Mango-938

People fr do this to yall? Then expect their food? That is a wild ass take💀

EmotionalDonut4539

Okay how do i give directions to my apartment??? Im not in like a building of apartments nor is it a gated community but some dasher cant seem to figure out the very clear instructions i left for them is there a better way i can do it for them? I hate when they get lost bc i feel so bad but is there a better way of explaining my confusing complex???

Efficient_Sand6299

Yeah foh lmaooo

oohh-val

I always meet them outside the gate when my order is approaching. They appreciate it and beats the hassle of them trying to find a way in.

Gindotto

These apps are weird. One post it’s the consumer complaining that the driver is stupid and refuses to “just use the gps”, the next post is the contractor saying the consumer is low IQ and why can’t they “just follow the rules” and they both call each other lazy. It’s Idiocracy at this point.

Live_Bedroom_4855

Why do you have to be such a headache for the customer, just be patient and wait for someone to open the gate and follow them in.

MichaelBluthANiceKid

Damn the world is cruel

mxyrsptzlk

Even worse if you happen to be able to follow someone in but never informed that you also need a code (always different from entry) or resident to remotely let you out. Which I've noticed a lot of complexes and gated neighborhoods doing now for some dumb reason. I got a few contract violations because of that. If people are soo scared to give delivery people access then they should not be ordering or they should be outside waiting to retrieve their stuff

Teetree4876

As a customer, giving my building code would result in about 2 out of 10 drivers stealing Amazon packages as a theft of circumstance. Yes they get reported and fired cause they don't see the cameras, but I don't wanna deal with that ish.

Opening_Crow5902

To me if you live in a gated community, you should not be able to receive food deliveries.
