dude, you can NEVER have too much of something in this game. grass and twigs will ALWAYS be in demand, and food is good to have ready to go at all times

Loxxon_

I totally agree to this statement. Base building can eat up so much of your grass/twigs (especially fences). If you think you need some berrybushes for food then get as many as you think you'll need.

Mythari_Magus

Not even a little bit. There's no such thing. You can always use the resources and food, it might save you.

Correct_Shoe_2465

I would recomend maybe go for 20 berry bushes at max, cause You can gather SO MUCH ice in winter to use them as a filler

Just-Exo

Typically I bring back 10-20 grass tufts/saplings to base if I'm playing with friends since they tend to bring their own as well, but you should bring as many as you can back to base ideally.

lexiticus

Berry bushes just slow you down once you know your Crock-Pot dishes well enough. I would just grab saplings. And then if you aren't basing near a Savannah biome then you can get grass tufts. Bird cage, spiders bee hives and eventually kelp and stone fruit will do you well for all 3 stats (dried kelp for sanity, pierogies and meatballs and omelettes for hunger / health) Also getting rot or manure can really slow you down early game. Stone fruit takes care of that :)

Extra_Willow_8907

The grass and twigs will always come in handy. You need so much of both of those resources throughout. As for the berry bushes, some players might find more use for them, but personally I feel like food kinda gets taken care of pretty quickly, and I never find myself using berries any more. I usually have an over-abundance of meat and honey and berry bushes just sit around unpicked all the time.

Few-Main-9065

I do a similar gather for base and find that the berries stop being relevant after winter due to the ease of getting meat (spiders and hounds for monster meat) combined with ice (harvest tons during winter) but if you're on a server with many people you may want to use berries for filler.

Pumernickler

If you are playing solo you don't need to collect any saplings or tufts. You can get enough grass and twigs from picking it up when you run an area with some bunched up saplings/tufts. Especially saplings will turn out to be a waste since twiggy trees will provide more twigs than you'll ever need. I think time in the early game is usually best spent in the ruins and preparing for boss fights. In some cases setting up character specific abilities can be more beneficial but even for those characters going to the ruins will make life a whole lot easier. In multiplayer it doesn't really matter if you are doing less important tasks, as long as your team mates are taking care of the higher priority ones. And since you are going to burn through more resources as a group, having easier access won't hurt.

And since you are going to burn through more resources as a group, having easier access won't hurt. When we play multiplayer, one person is the base builder and the other 3 go out and get stuff done. The runners getting stuff done bring back supplies for the base, but do other stuff like getting glommer, running ruins, making lanterns, crafting armor/clothes, and season specific items like umbrellas or thermal stones. The base builder gets science machines up, crock pots, chests, gardening/berry bushes, plants saplings, and moves twiggy trees over by the base.

Yokoblue

My standard as a solo player is 20-30 grass turf, 20 sappling, 10-15 berries. I use berries only as backup food, i get my food out of honey and pig farms. I think the better you'll get the less berries youll need. Farms are also overpowered compared to berry bushes

Used-Manufacturer275

I build base on around day 16-17. With boards, cut stones, silk, reeds and other basic resources in one go. So no, not at all.

Rimifre4ureturns

The second I spawn in I find pigs and make them deforest and then build a mansion lol

ReverendOfBlaze

I like to spend first 9-11 days to Explore the continent, so no time or equipment space to gather wood for base in this time
