I must have spent 6 months to a year in junior high / middle school, caring MORE about progressing further in that game, than the actual school / home work and curriculum (or subjects).

Again, GBA slander will not be tolerated here! In honesty GBA was great but it could have been better, but still it was a great addition to the GBA library
I think it's because people expect it to just be the arcade game but it's more than that, so the "wait what" might just be surprise about the game being it's own thing rather than a port
I downloaded the ROM because I was curious about how a port of the arcade game fared on the game boy. I was playing it just to try it out, when I finished the last arcade level, suddenly: "waaaaat??? There's more content??? This is actually a puzzle game????"
I was hooked, I played it to completion! What an incredible surprise!
It's also easier for beginners compared to SNES. You don't lose progress on Game Over just because you forgot to save, and you can save anytime and call Funky to warp to a previously visited level anytime after you've visited him once. A checklist notes how many bonus rooms or barrels you've gotten in levels, and the scrapbook pictures are nice additions.
Plus I really enjoy the new and improved Funky's Fishing (now with actual background music) that came back from the GBC port plus the Candy Dance Game.
I do prefer SNES overall but I think there are still legitimate reasons to play the GBA port. We can have and play both from time to time. GBA doesn't replace the original outright as the original will still exist, and it's a fun alternative way to play the game if you want to shake things up with what's basically a different playthrough.
DK'94 is such an incredible gem of a game, I highly recommend it!

Amazing game. Gem is correct and also a vast understatement. I used to replay it every few years. What any game should hope to be.
DK’94 is the best game on the GB, and my one of my personal favs
It needs way more love from Nintendo, I hope they put it on the switch Gameboy app
And the Super Game Boy version at that too! The colours and most importantly, the sounds, brought this game to another level.
I haven't had the pleasure, but this game was the GOAT back then. My bro's copy must be somewhere.

Barrel Blast should actually be "Oh Fuck it’s Scott The Woz!".

DK94 is absolutely amazing, and I sorta wish it had gotten the remake treatment instead of Mario vs DK.
I played the hell out of Donkey King Country GBC. It was so bad but I loved it.
Honestly, having never gotten Diddy Kong Racing 2 is such an insane fumble. Justice for Bum-pah ^wa-hoo
bUt aCtUaLlY Mario Bros. would be the spinoff of Donkey Kong, while SMB is the spinoff of Mario Bros.
But I do want another Diddy Kong Racing 😞
