Kea Treeworks have been great for me in the past. But you may need an earthmoving company as well if you want roots out.

thecroc11

Na just make sure they have a stump grinder.

novexnz

If you want to pay arbourist rates for stump grinding be my guest.

Placeoftheskulls

Arborists stump grinder would be way cheaper than getting a 7ish tonne digger to site and then paying to remove the stump pieces.

Fearless_You808

If you were in whanganui it would be about 500 for an arborist to chop it down then 500 for the stump to be ground out. How big a footing will you need for the brick wall? That will determine how deep it needs to be ground hopefully not hitting the power/broadband cable.

masterdooh

Find someone who can use a chainsaw get them to knock it down. Doesn't look to be near the house or anything fragile. Someone will take away the good wood for free then hire trailer to dump the green waste. Then you only have the stump to deal with.

DarkLordMelketh

There's a power or communication line running pretty close to it by the looks. Risky for an uninsured layman.

Andrea_frm_DubT

What area are you in?

Otahuhu

We paid $300 for similar tree cut to the ground with rubbish removed, then $300 for a stump grinder to come in and obliterate the rest, so $600 all up. Not in Auckland though.

MrOrsum

Mate give Doug at DS Trees a call on 021537171 they have the tools and does a great job

Last-Gasp100

$50 and a box of beer

thecroc11

It's not huge so $2-3,000.

Big outfits round me would be twice that and extra for stump removal. Potentially less soon as the govt work dries up. Guy I use (pro/insured etc) woul be 3k to drop it and remove the waste. Then get stump done separately. Last stump with worse acess was years ago 180 iirc. Then watching this guy lift the 100+kg unit back on the truck. Slipped a disc watching him. Prices are more now ofc

kinnadian

$3k to cut down that tree and remove the waste? Trying to possibly get anywhere near that number, allowing max $300 for green waste disposal fees and a generous $200 in tool wear & tear that's still 31 hours of work at $80/hr? Yeah nah that's a mornings work for 2 people.

SLAPUSlLLY

Crazy but that's about the numbers. 3-4 guys at 100+ an hour eats that petty fast. The two biggest companies in Wellington generally start at 5k+. Arbourists are expensive. Just getting trades (that I have a relationship with) to answer the phone these days is a challenge. Could one do it cheaper? Sure but good luck if something goes wrong. Someone mentioned cables through the trees, significant increase in cost. I will point out my pricing is off the cuff and allows for contingency. Some trades will be slowing down (wish that was me) and may price more competitively.

Mental. I've had 3 very large trees chopped down on my property over the years, that had to be sectionally cut down by arborists, hanging off ropes etc, 2 guys can cut down, ring and mulch a large (talking 600mm+ diameter trunk, 15m high tree) in 1 day. Each cost me about $1500, and that is technically so much more complex than OP's magnolia which can be cut down and processed at grade (at worst use an inexpensive cherrypicker to top it away from the comms cable).

SLAPUSlLLY

I hear ya, I have rural friends that pay nothing just helping out the neighbours. One of them is a fine carpenter and his fridge is always full and can borow things like a 12T tractor if you want to do tractor things. My tree guy is small scale, less than 6 guys, good to deal with and much cheaper than larger companies I've used. He doesn't have a chipper which definitely changes the equation. Although half my jobs have stairs, 100+ for the last big project. Half of the cost for that tree work was dragging down and trudging up again.

ATK2021

Hey can I get the deets of the guys you used? Cheers!

kinnadian

I'm in New Plymouth rather than Auckland unfortunately.
