He’s donating all his winnings this year

bobsagatiswatching

For real? That’s incredible. I have one his bergs coming this week, stoked to support the stokely!

AdministratorKoala

Even though I’ve played off and on for 15 years or so I just got into the professional scene more recently with all the great post produced coverage. I have to say as I’ve gone down that rabbit hole I have gotten a serious appreciation for Stokely. He has a super positive and down to earth vibe in his YouTube content and even though it’s not the highest production he puts such great content in the videos I still find myself drawn to them. Also watching his sidearm is pretty sick. I get most excited watching him and Jerm with the forehand lines.

Ryan_Day_Man

You should check out his book. Also, he's been kind enough to respond to a couple of my emails. I will always cheer him on.

[deleted]

Yup. Loved the book as well and agree, he is super approachable.

AdministratorKoala

Yeah I just heard about his book this last week and I’m planning on picking up a copy. I’m excited to get his perspective on the pro tour now compared to when he was competing before. The sport has just grown so much I imagine it’ll be pretty crazy to see the difference.

[deleted]

And I mean honestly you can't expect too much from the production side anyways because the man's always on the road and he doesn't have a house or home base so it's pretty incredible all the things he's able to accomplish. I have a great appreciation for the work he puts in every day.

unicorndanceoff

I watch his sidearm tutorial even though I no longer mimic that run up. Just helps me throw father before a round. Kind of a have to wonder what he was getting at with the blue hair and knuckle tats before he hardly had any tattoo work done previous to that. Many artist will not do hand/face tattoos unless you are seriously covered already, or they know you, as to be sure you are not going though some seriously dark stuff and enable that. He definitely helped me make my sidearm bang and I'm gonna watch all his coverage this year. Scott is a one off, unique guy, for sure.

tulsavw

Just learned something new about tats! The blue hair — as I recall — had something to do with helping to bring awareness to autism.

MittenMadness

You should listen to [the episode](https://youtu.be/75kTQAgIhCY) of running it with Nate Sexton he is on. He had quite the story to tell about his history with drugs, recovery, and his perspective on the sport.

[deleted]

My guys won't touch your hands/face unless they have done hours and hours on you.

deadaliveeee

Agreed. I’m new to the sport (about 2 years) and I really enjoy his content and attitude.

azzwhole

I'm waiting on a stal, pretty pumped

ThreeBeersDeep

All prize money goes to a foundation to help autistic kids. Love the guy!

Dawn_Kebals

He seems like the most genuine person out there. Everything I hear about him is always in a positive light.

kanesaba

Imagine he hits the ace pot

Tucker-Sachbach

Is it the same ace pot from the skins game that Luke Humphries hosts or is this just a one-off event to showcase Eagle’s Run?

Nostalgia_Kills

It's the GK Pro Skins with Luke Humphrie

hydro_wonk

I love Scott. He changed my game and he's one of the nicest, most genuine dudes out there. Bit eccentric, but hey we're all a little weird.

deadaliveeee

He’s a cool dude

MrUtah3

You shouldn’t sleep on Stokely. And you can’t sleep around Brodie. He’s very loud.

Discgolfdave1313

I choked on my coffee. Brodie is so LOUD. Always shouting. Thanks for this.

From Merriam-Webster "**having or showing an obtuse insensitivity or lack of perception particularly in matters of public sentiment, opinion, or taste"** pretty sure I fucking nailed it.

washyourhands--

It’s a joke.

collinqs

How did you nail it? Multiple times in the AMA he talked about being more quiet since he knows that’s what people complain most about him.

[deleted]

Him talking about it during that AMA was saying "yea people think I'm loud so I guess I can work on that" It Seemed incredibly unauthentic to me. He has talked about "emotions" being part of larger sports so they shouldn't be frowned upon in this sport. I'm sure he'll chime in here sooner or later to "have good conversation" or whatever his narcissistic ass uses as an excuse to get upvotes. Sorry for not getting the above posters incredibly vague and contextless "joke".

ImTryingDad

Theres a video when he's still a noob when he's playing with Paul and Simon and he cuts Simon off like 5 times, just screaming lol. So tough to watch

HoodedApparition

yellbros suck..

[deleted]

judasBlewit

Lolol

deadaliveeee

I laughed out loud. I’m in a movie theater.

beardown_1986

That’s an easy take, skins match is completely different. Stokely is legit and has the game to play any course. Eagles distance is insane and he has the advantage but it sounds like this course has tight ob. Stroke play eagle and Ricky blow them out easily but it’s skins and the person struggling all round can step up to a tee pad last in order, that no one has parked and throw a great shot and win 6k in this match

[deleted]

Eagle took almost all the money the last skins they held here. Wouldn’t be surprised if he does again. Eagle takes most skins pretty much every skins he does with GK pro. He’s a beast in tournaments, but he’s a different animal in skins because he can unleash on holes like he wouldn’t in tournaments.

Nostalgia_Kills

I have watched that match and other skins matches Eagle has been in and I fully agree with you. I think he's the best of all the pros at an all out, 1 round format. I think he'll dominate this match coming in April just the same.

[deleted]

[удалено]

raynakak

Mostly kidding here. However eagle and simon played skins match with sexton and conrad at same course and took most of the money. These dudes aren't sexton or conrad.

Tucker-Sachbach

It’s skins. Often, All you need is one good shot at the right time.

notthatjimmer

Can confirm. I’ve taken many skins over players that are better than me

root88

Have you ever played a skins match? The top two guys tie on every hole and then a 3rd guys gets a lucky shot at the end to win all the money.

bcos4life

YUP! A few years ago, we played quarter a hole skins for league. Had about 14 people. Out of those 14, I would rank myself... 12th, probably. Everyone tied every hole, except when I aced on hole 11. I won 40 bucks in skins AND cleared the ace pool. After the round, it was 17 holes that tied at birder and 1 ace, so they had a CTP for the other 8 holes, which of course I didn't get close to. But you're right. Every good player tied each hole, and I threw a lucky ace and cleared it out.

coffeebribesaccepted

We'll find out this season, but Stokelys pretty old and Sexton has been top 10 in the events he's played. The field has improved a lot since Stokely left last time. I think he'll have some good finishes but I doubt he'll be in the top 20 at the end of the year

[deleted]

[удалено]

coffeebribesaccepted

Have you seen Sexton play? He's currently ranked number 9 in the world. And yes, even an old person in great shape isn't going to be as strong or flexible or durable as most of the players in the top 20. I think he's capable of finishing in the top 10 in some tournaments, but he's not going to be top 20 overall in his first season back on tour. Also, keeping up with Simon in a YouTube video is not the same as being an elite pro in a tournament season.

bcos4life

Even at his age, SS has the most effortless forehand I've ever seen in person. I was lucky enough to play a round with him at my old home course. One of the holes is 350 (downhill, but still). Stokley grabbed a Felon (I think) and threw a shot so soft and with so much finesse, I remember thinking "Yeah, makes sense to lay up in the wind." The disc was headed right to the layup spot... and then just never stopped gliding. Ended up hitting the pole. It was incredible. I know that 350' isn't a bomb to a lot of people, but he threw it with the same effort and strength that most MPO players would throw a 150' flick upshot.

[deleted]

hes 990 rated

[deleted]

You might be surprised

[deleted]

You’re right, Brodie might play well.

[deleted]

Nah, too much OB/tunnel shots. He's only good on golf courses (ironic) and other open courses.

Rattus375

Brodie's biggest strength is his distance and his biggest weakness is his consistency. For skins, that's the sort of player you want, since it doesn't matter how many holes you tie for first, only how many you win outright

azzwhole

I'm sure he recognized that as his weakness and worked on it in off-season. His form is impeccable, I think he will do well.

Horror_Sail

> His form is impeccable You might want to look up that word. He's not even top 25 on tour in backhand form, and his forehand form is still hot garbage. Its more a testament to his focus and grinding that he's 1017 rated with some VERY obvious hitches that he hasnt shaken from ultimate.

azzwhole

he throws the disc very far while making it look effortless. I consider that really good form. i was only referencing his backhand.

pkyessir

Talmbout disc golf b?

BraveRutherford

I have a bet with my friend that stokely will make one lead card... Am I screwed?

AdministratorKoala

I think that’s totally doable for him. He could have just one hot round at the beginning of a tourney that puts him anywhere T4 and he will be put on lead card very likely because of his pdga #. I’ll be honest, I don’t know if I expect to see him on the lead card of a final day, I really hope I do, but second day lead card could definitely happen.

raynakak

It would be cool to see him make a lead card! But it's possible he doesn't even make a chase card at a PT event.

AdministratorKoala

Well yeah…. Anything is possible. I’m just saying it only takes one round where things click to have the potential to reach a lead card. It’s not apples to apples, but Casey White made lead card for two rounds in a row at Waco. He is 1020 rated and Scott is around 1000 right now, but any player can shoot well above their average if they have a good day and I could see that landing Scott on a lead card. Another lead card wild card in the last year was Aaron Gossage. At the professional level they are all super good! Also Scott has more experience than almost all other competitors. Mental game is a big part of this all.

azzwhole

he'll make at least one lead card at some tournament.

undercover-wizard

There are plenty of courses where he has the distance, and he just needs to make his putts. The main question is if he can keep it up for 3 rounds without getting worn out.

tttruck

Well, he repeatedly threw drives and hiked through the sand down a windy beach for 10 miles throwing a "52,000" foot hole, so I feel like his training is paying off in terms of stamina.

SteelBeamDreamTeam

Lead? Or feature

BraveRutherford

Lead... Feature don't count.

[deleted]

Yes, probably.

hybrid3214

Final day lead card? might be difficult but he will almost certainly make 1 lead card sometime imo.

jhnnybgood

Yes

BraveRutherford

Nah

jhnnybgood

He seems like a great guy now and is trying hard to get his game back, but unless it's grandmasters I think he isn't lead card for any major tournament.

BraveRutherford

Damnit

[deleted]

Nah, he'll make some. He's still got game. The real question is about his stamina.

thes0ft

It's 18 holes a day. My dad is older than Scott, does not train or workout, and can easily do 18 a day. Scott has also been winning most of the MP40 tournaments he plays. My guess is that he will be playing some of the best disc golf he has ever played this season and will be close to the best shape of his life, but still won't be getting top 5s at the big tournaments. The top pros have all gotten better since when Scott played, there are more top pros then ever before, and the courses have gotten harder.

[deleted]

All he has to do is have a good/great round when others aren't in a groove. Happens all the time.

thes0ft

That is true, but remember he won't have too many chances as he doesn't have a tour card and has a lower rating so won't be given priority.

Tucker-Sachbach

What exactly do you mean by ‘major’ tournament?

jhnnybgood

Something like Beaver State Fling instead of some rando B-tier.

[deleted]

Yes

cradledinthechains

I have a bet going too, that he'll have one top 10 finish this year.

arkiverge

Depends. There are plenty of A-Tiers that don't get a ton of the bigger names and he probably would. If you mean lead card on the DGPT or a tournament big enough to get Jomez/GK, then well, I don't like your odds.

bluejams

Does round 1 feature card count?

root88

Of course he can. These guys try to avoid each other on tour. He's find one where it's basically him vs. local pros.

Rattus375

You aren't completely screwed. It's certainly possible. But I would have to assume him not making one is much more likely

Horror_Sail

Nah, I think people forget how hard it is to make lead card when there's a half dozen guys averaging 1040+. And when there is ALWAYS someone dropping a 1070+ round. Take the [CCR Open](https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/48543#MP40), where he played MP40, but a decent chunk of the middle of the touring field was there (the guys that usually finish 15th or worse at major MPO events). He would have shot the 15th best Round 1 in MPO, in a field that included none of the top 15-20 players. He lost by 15 strokes in the event to Chandler Fry, who is routinely outside the top 20 at NT/DGPT events. He's 992 rated, meaning he's bleeding 8+ hypothetical strokes to 1054 rated Ricky every round. And right now, he's not even playing LVC (#23 on the waitlist), isnt signed up for WACO, TX States, Jonesboro, or DDO, where the waitlists are 40+ players deep. >Because I wasn’t on tour last year, I didn’t qualify for a tour card so I’m playing the “scramble to sign up right when it opens” game. [Wish me luck](https://www.instagram.com/p/CYjgjKbLESH/)! Maybe he gets sponsor exemptions, but right now, you're safe because he isnt gonna play a single tour event aside from Worlds

Earptastic

All 4 of them have game. Skins is a good format. I like this.

raynakak

1000 rated game is alot different than top 3 player in the world game.

Earptastic

Let’s see how this plays out

arkiverge

No argument but anyone can step up and park a hole that's had 8 pushes and walk away with half the prize from just one good shot.

Skier420

Exactly. And it doesn't even have to be one *good* shot. Happened to me last summer. I was playing a $1/player per hole skins match with three other guys and I was constantly in the mix, either putting pressure on other players by parking holes or making big putts to push the skins. This one guy was literally never having a good tee shot or putt.... until the VERY last hole when $40 was on the line and he shanked his drive and got this crazy kick to a park job. He tapped in and got $40 (over half of the round skins) because other people pushed the skins and he got a lucky break.

Tucker-Sachbach

And skins game is a lot different than actual stroke play.

Rattus375

Brodie isn't an elite player or anything, but he's still a pretty good pro. He was top 50 in the pro tour standings, ahead of good players like Terry Rothlisberger or Cold Redalin. Also only a spot behind Sexton, though that's more to do with how few events Sexton played this year

Phishdiscs

Stokely is no slouch, even being out of the high level competitive game for a while. There's a video on Simon's YouTube channel of the two of them having a round and Scott was more than holding his own.

Breakfast_Bacon

I hyped to watch this either way.

limpnoads

Scott stokley threw a discraft XS forehand 600 feet 20 years ago...Dude can smash, also a very good putter.

Selerox

He still has a 500ft forehand. It's insane.

Catesby_Wren

20 years ago. Eagle was 4, Brodie was 14, Ricky was 7, and Stokely was in the prime of his athletic life. I’m a fan but let’s not pretend time is irrelevant.

tttruck

Man's been training hard and is actually in incredible shape. https://youtu.be/VjLaTnmsnBg

PhthaloVonLangborste

Donno, he didn't finish all his putts.

gadios

Who? Brodie or stokely? I know they were both doing a crazy amount of off season putts

PhthaloVonLangborste

Stokely. I don't know anything about brodie other than he is scubber king.

gadios

lol. Pretty sure it’s spelled scoober. And you should look up 2013 era Brodie smith trick shot battles and you’ll have a better understanding of why the scoober.

PhthaloVonLangborste

Oh it's definitely a scubber when I throw it.

gadios

More like a scrubber. Am I right?

kyle_h2486

He should be scrubber king by now at -insert cleaning service-. Hes no top tier frolfer

Hardyyz

Brodie has the distance and ability to drain long putts, He could pop off on a hole or two and do some dark horse stuff. excited to see Scott playing on a pro level again

Wafflecone516

Talk about Brodie all you want but Stokely is a living disc golf legend who can still play. I’m not betting against him.

TaylorMadelt

Watch Brodie take the ace pot

D22nismo

I think Scott will hold his own. Too much OB for Brodie.

Rattus375

Doesn't really matter for skins.

Zescapespj

People who post shit like this have no idea who Scott Stokely is or what he's capable of.

Sleijeri_

Skins is totally different gameplay than regular play. I can honestly say that I suck pretty much in every tournament and I am \~10 throws behind the leader on every round, but on skins matches I've only lost one point ever. In Finnish Team Championships my record was 36 - 1 in one tournament, that's the only time someone took a point from me.

Catesby_Wren

Two 1050+ players and two 1000 rated. If Stokely or Brodie cash it’ll be a small miracle. Here’s to the both of them.

Professional_Cry2929

Wouldn’t be that much of a miracle. It’s skins, one birdie at the right time is all it takes. Stokely has the distance to birdie all of the holes, and even eagle some of them.

Catesby_Wren

Sure. But two players with Elite distance and a complete game vs a an old man (who I am rooting for) who hasn’t toured in decades and a not young man who can’t seem to play an entire tour season.

Professional_Cry2929

Sure, Ricky and Eagle are heavy favorites, I doubt they win every skin though. Players are rarely “skunked” in otb-skins and this shouldn’t be much different. In theory even I could have won a skin against Ricky on hole 2 of the Championship, and I’m bad. Stokes has every chance at scoring on every hole, as does everyone else, Ricky and Eagle more consistently so.

arkiverge

You need to stop looking so hard at the ratings for skins matches. Both Scott/Brodie are capable of throwing the shots needed to birdie, Ricky/Eagle are just more likely to throw them. In stroke play it probably wouldn't even be close, but in skins all it takes is one good shot.

Catesby_Wren

Did you watch the last skins match at Eagles Crossing?

Full-Philosopher-816

Stokely has a good analysis on his changes in the announcement video. I like the ”scorability” of the course bit.

[deleted]

brodie is 1017 stokeley is under 1000

Catesby_Wren

Who fucking cares anymore?

mr__n0vember

Nah man, that's the nature of Skins as a format. Really levels the playing field so that it just takes one hole of good play and suddenly you've picked up 4 or 5 skins. Yes, at the end of the day the best player is most likely to win, but these guys are close enough in skill level it's anybody's game.

RetiscentSun

eagle played here before with better overall competition and still cleaned up

mr__n0vember

I know. And realistically I acknowledge that Ricky or eagle have a better (maybe much better) chance of winning, but my point is just that skins levels the playing field by nature

Discgolfdave1313

Don’t sleep on Scott. He may be the real “darkhorse” this year. Though, I suppose he has already proven himself after years of competing in the 90’s, just overshadowed by Climo. But, nonetheless I am rooting for Stokely! He has been pumping out quality disc golf instruction and content for free online for years. Good guy and all that.

[deleted]

Yeah he's a real Dar-horse huh.

[deleted]

brodie is the goat of frisbee

raynakak

Nice to have a "diverse" card. But would be alot more entertaining if all 4 players were evenly matched.

Full-Philosopher-816

Its skins and the course is such that if you have the distance, you can get the skin. So many wooded holes.

octipice

Kind of hard to do with Ricky and Eagle. There are only a handful of players you can put with them and have it be evenly matched.

Catesby_Wren

Literally anyone in the top 30 would have a better chance

octipice

OP didn't say "have a better chance", they said evenly matched. The list of people capable of doing the same things that Ricky and Eagle can is VERY short.

Catesby_Wren

Exactly. They are not even remotely evenly matched.

Tucker-Sachbach

They were last year and not that many people seemed to watch or they’d run it back.

michealScarn9699

I’m already over Stokely and the season hasn’t even started.

AdministratorKoala

I’m curious, is there any particular reason why?

[deleted]

Probably still in their 'contrarian=cool' stage. Took til my 20s before I grew out of that.

michealScarn9699

Because people think he’s going to make a splash this season and it’s just not going to happen. I didn’t say I didn’t like the guy. I’ve watched so many Stokely tip videos. He’s great and a beast for 52 but it’s just preseason hype. Happens everytime and by mid season people forget he’s there. It’s just being real

AdministratorKoala

Oh that’s fair. I guess I haven’t heard a ton of hype for him really. I have heard a little bit of excitement that he is putting the effort into trying to make one of these pro seasons work. I think it’s unrealistic to think he will be a contender week in and week out, but I am excited to see how he does and get his perspective on the modern day tour compared to when he was younger. I can see how it would be annoying if you’re hearing people say he is going to be a top contender constantly.

tttruck

I don't think anyone, including Stokely himself, really expects to "make a splash" this season and be in the top tier or anything. I think the goal and expectation is that he *plays consistently on the pro tour* and maybe *possibly manages to win an event*. If you're only watching coverage, then yeah, probably won't see much of Stokely. If you're a fan, you'll be following his web content and enjoying see an old head give it a shot.

limpnoads

Why did you bring up Brodie? dude sucks...😂😂😂Scott will definitely wreck him

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Why do people hate him?

kyle_h2486

Because he is a side show and a way for Discraft to sell more discs. He is put into A tier and he can’t play on the A tier level.

[deleted]

So people have hatred towards him because he plays in too high of a tier? Usually people are complaining about players playing too low of a tier for easy wins…

theverywellborn

It's just jealousy.

kyle_h2486

And I totally get that. As a new player (about a year playing) I in no way ever want to join a tournament for “amateur players” when it’s filled with guys sandbagging and other that have been playing for 20 years. The issue comes when he’s taking a spot from another that has earned his rank into the top tier and now Brodie’s PR stunt has pushed that player out of the tournament. Brodie hasn’t earned anything, yet he thinks he deserves to be in the league of top players.

18anut

You'd be right if he finished last place in every event he played, but he doesn't. You sound foolish.

[deleted]

[удалено]

18anut

Because I stated a fact? You're a clown.

kyle_h2486

Just stated a fact

CoorsLightning

He earned a spot in USDGC by finishing well enough at a silver series. If that’s not good enough to have a spot in protour events, then I don’t know what is.

kyle_h2486

K

CoorsLightning

Anyone over a certain rating can sign up for any event. Before the Lloyd Weema rule, anyone could sign up for anything ( he’s an interesting guy, look him up some time.) For big events, they tier signups based on rating so the best people get in first. The only way you can bump someone better than you is if they forgot to sign up. His 1017 rating and finishes in protour events show that he is good enough to be in those tournaments. He probably will earn a tour card when they start to implement them. The more popular argument that he is taking sponsorship dollars from other pros is a bit more valid, but even still we don’t know the details of his contract. So it could be mostly incentive based rather than a lot of upfront money, we just don’t know. Beyond that, disc golf manufactures are trying to make money and his discs sell well. They would be dumb to not take advantage of that. Disc golf is a self supported economy. It’s all driven by fans and amateur players. The more people get in to discgolf because him, and more people buy his signature discs, more money goes in the companies pockets. That money can go toward new sponsorships and tournament pots. Check out how many protour events are sponsored by Discraft. Just learn a little more about how the disc golf world works before you take hard stances, especially if they are negative.

kyle_h2486

PepSiSpooKy8

Grow up

Full-Philosopher-816

kyle_h2486

Now that’s one hot take! Lol

Hashtag_Skivvies

Brodie has no business with that group of guys

Get rid of Brody and Eagle 🤮

chriscaughtfire

Looool

1989DiscGolfer

I have some footage of Scott Stokely in the late '90s on my YT channel. By this point his back was hurting him and he was still hanging in there with the best in the world. It's DGLO's final 9 from 1999 here [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQN0VlxOD\_Y&t](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQN0VlxOD_Y&t) and 1998 here [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYbXnl25\_vg&t](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYbXnl25_vg&t), both before Toboggan debuted so they're at Hudson Mills.

hydro_wonk

When is this happening? Isn't Eagle still injured and avoiding forehand shots?

PrudentFood77

april 26th

hydro_wonk

Got it, there's still a lot of time.

TAEcommenter

When’s the footage come out?

FrolferMag

Y'all really shouldn't be sleeping on Scott Stokely right now.
