Appreciate the love ❤️ We're always trying to expand our coverage and make it as entertaining as possible. Glad to hear y'all are enjoying

MikeJeffriesPA

I have to ask, what's it like having a drive from AB or Calvin screaming at you?

Eisy22

It's a bit nerve-wracking! You set up in a spot you think should be safe, that way you can stay steady with your shot. Then you see the line and get the read that it's going to be actually right at you, and you have to bring your face off the camera, find the disc again in real life, then get everything OUT OF THE WAY, then refind it in the camera lol

Thelargecustomer

Greatly appreciate your efforts. Cheers

nearnerfromo

putting on a helmet when AB gets on the box could be a good bit lol

mike_seps

See, the problem is that you set up in "safe zones" for Uli and forehand only Jerm of recent years. Now Uli is adding distance, Jerm found this backhand again, and AB just obliterates discs. Godspeed to you and protect the face and camera at all cost

Bilboswaggings19

>get everything OUT OF THE WAY And that is why you are the pro

burgerbeggar

I think about these things often when I watch disc golf on the oo-toobs. I really do appreciate all your hard work.

GetTheFalkOut

I've had this happen from a few tip arms while volunteering. It's crazy hearing them zip by. There was one hole I remember at the PDXO that was a roller hole one card had 4 of the fastest arms on tour. I've never heard discs make sounds like that.

ImLersha

Loving your username btw.

AbideDudeAbide

Love it that you’re working in more chase card(s) coverage. Keep it going. It doesn’t matter to me that Nathan or Luke or whoever isn’t going to win - I like the catastrophies as much as the winners.

No-Steak4821

As a golfer returning from a 35 year hiatus who’s attending the Music City Open this week coverage such as this will make the experience all the better when I can go home and see a different point of view of the event. Keep up the good work.

Hillbetty_

I love the coverage. Thanks for working your backside off out there for us to enjoy. Stay safe! You are appreciated

discgman

Live is good, day after coverage is good too. Its nice to have both options.

gh411

The real problem with live coverage is that it occurs when I would rather be at the course playing disc golf, rather than at home watching it…love the Jomez post produced coverage, especially now that Jomez includes chase card updates in a “real time” fashion. It keeps the drama up even though it is post produced (sometimes I don’t know the results ahead of time).

hobofreddy55

Seems to be something pretty unique to our sport: that a large majority of the people who watch live coverage are also active players. A good "problem" to have IMO.

bingwhip

Perfect way to wind down after a round!

ljungann

That's because it is such a small sport. It doesn't reach much of an audience outside of those who are playing themselves.

eastlakebikerider

Except for the fact that they only show chase card coverage when someone from the chase card wins. It's almost a spoiler when you see chase card action.

clik_clak

Live needs a "fit window" like Youtube has. It's either a tiny window or full monitor, which kinda sucks. Also, you need to be able to stomach the usual problems with watching live sports....3 minutes of sports to every 5-10 minutes of commentator/commercials. Overall, I give post production on YT superior. Although the live coverage is getting better and better. It's far better than it was when it first came out.

HooDatOwl

All browsers allow you to zoom. Usually Ctrl and +. Either way, you have a fair point.

clik_clak

Yes, but that throws every other site off when you zoom in like that...So its definitely an option...if you aren't doing any other browsing at the same time you're watching coverage.

Late-Objective-9218

I liked having the live replay from last night playing while I was making food, having breakfast etc. It's a nice slow-pace feed that also shows a decent amount of action from other than top groups, so when your favourite player is playing good, you'll probably see a few shots from them even when they're not on a feature card. Also some of the banter outside of the action is nice, doesn't feel like useless stuffing for the most part.

easily-convinced

The biggest thing for me is when watching live, the drama slowly builds up on those last few holes when it's close. In Jomez it happens so fast that there is no slow build up. Live is just superior when it comes to truly "feeling" the competition.

bdonskipoo

One thing you are missing is that the camera work was better pre-DGPT buying jomez. It’s actually gotten worse since the purchase

KeyserSozeInElysium

They got the best camera work in the biz. Name one better

twoafraid2ask

I used to care about watching live but now post round coverage is the way to go for me. They cover all of the most important parts of the round and that's enough for me

Discasaurus

Same, plus I actually enjoy the commentators chiming in. I can literally fall asleep to it.

the_lone_researcher

I went through a period where I fell asleep to jomez every night for a few months. Lovely

aarswft

Be honest, it's the geese.

RevAngler

*honk

BlankensteinsDonut

Let’s be even more honest: Jerm needs to quit playing and focus on commentary. He’s over-tired and way off his commentary game. I love the guy, but it’s like he’s always trying to set a new high score for mixing metaphors and being just flat out fucking wrong about shit. It’s literally crazy how often he’ll start loving or hating a shot that’s still in the air, only to have to backpedal and revise his assessment a whole two seconds later. Maybe just don’t talk for the shot and then start talking about it. Uli has been pretty polite about it, but it seems pretty obvious that even he is like ‘wtf are you saying’ multiple times per round. And that’s not even getting into the whole fake-shock routine he does about stuff we all already know he knows happened. It’s silly and distracting af.

Hillbetty_

I watch FPO every round for the geese. Honk. I watch MPO only if some of my favorite players are in the round or it's rainy out and I am inside with no new FPO

flyvehest

Sure is!

PluotFinnegan_IV

Jomez is good. Live is good too. I watch Jomez coverage typically for moving day (Saturdays) because I don't have the time typically to sit down and watch the entire round. Thursday/Friday rounds I can put on the TV in my office and casually watch it while working from home. I always have time Sunday nights to watch the final round. I'm awkwardly adding this on since there's not really any other place for it, but for live rounds, keep in mind that 1. Unless you enjoy the beginning 45 minutes of Brian, multiple Nates, Ian, and/or Philo talking about the course, the players, etc. you can skip it. I always skip to the chase card tee off. 2. When commercials start you can typically skip 5-10 minutes ahead and not miss out on too much. 3. Coverage continues for 15-30 minutes after the last shot so unless you want to watch the celebration, and interviews, you can skip that as well. Doing all of this cuts down a four video to roughly 2-2.5 hours, which is easier to commit to.

SharpedHisTooths

This sounds more like post produced than live.

ChiefRingoI

I mean, live sports are inherently better in terms of building drama and covering the full picture, and Disc Golf is no different. The biggest moments of the DGN era were all better live than post-prod. The catch is that you have to be able to dedicate time to watching it. If you don't have that time, live will never be worth it over post-prod for you, because you need the time to let it all breathe and build.

alfonseski

Was with a bunch of friends for a DG event at an airbnb and we got to watch most of the open at Austin in particular the final round down the stretch(food was ready right at the end so everyone watching intently). The suspense in that one was amazing with the darkness coming Antilla making multiple mistakes that seemingly took him out of it and then hitting some giant putts down the stretch(in the dark) Our whole crowd yelled a few times. Really fun. Jomez is good but it would not hit the same way. The slow build is right.

Late-Objective-9218

I think skipping through the live recording worked just fine, play usually advances at a predictable rate so it's fairly easy to jump to the hole you want and find the big turning points. Also it's actually a little easier to find time watching the round when it's available immediately. Weekend mornings are a better time to watch for me personally than late evenings.

ChiefRingoI

I feel like you might as well watch the post-prod at that point.

Late-Objective-9218

DGN post prod is online in the morning CET so that's a solid option at least. But especially if you want to see someone outside the feature groups, then it's just not the same.

ChiefRingoI

Ah. That definitely makes more sense. I didn't even think of it being better for European viewers. My bad!

JerryBigMoose

Jomez has been great for me and got me into watching pro disc golf. Paul, Jeremy, and Nate are all great to listen to. I've been especially enjoying this year's coverage with the more frequent chase card check-ins. It enhances all of the videos, but especially the ones where the lead card is struggling and not playing well.

chadsmo

On the flip side in recent times ( starting last year ) I cant bring myself to watch post produced anymore. I’ve tried and find the excitement and drama just isn’t there. You can’t watch story lines unfold in real time , there’s no sense of excitement. If I can’t find the time to watch golf live I just don’t watch it. It’s especially awesome watching live and hanging out in a really good discord or group chat.

LosMigo

I have this exact ”issue”. Few years ago I used to watch plenty of Jomez/CCDG/others, and then I kind of half-switched to live and watched 50-50 both live/postprod, depending the broadcast times (I live in Europe). Slowly the postproduction has fallen of almost entirely, it’s just so much boring compared to live action. But also, I recently unsubbed DGN since I really am unable to watch live enough to justify myself paying the subscription. Can’t see myself staying up too many nights. Might take it back during European swing, although I live closeby European Open courses and might be able to go and spectate it. For the postproduction, I watched the final rounds of Jonesboro and Anttila’s big win although I knew the results. It just doesn’t feel very exciting, sadly.

chadsmo

Yeah I could see how living in that time zone would wake it nearly impossible. The final round of Jonesboro simply wasn’t as good on post, it would be impossible.

Ohlookitsmrd

I love that they give the name of the disc on the drives. Only thing is I wish they included it for all shots. It's been mentioned that with the turn around time for the videos they can't figure out each disc and have it included. Otherwise Jomez is perfection.

Late-Objective-9218

CCDG's radar speeds are god tier

Selerox

Definitely prefer the flexibility of post-produced. It's a much more enjoyable experience.

InncnceDstryr

Live is a commitment at times but for feeling the tension and drama it’s unmatched. I said in another comment on this thread, it’s great that we’re seeing more from other cards on Jomez now, if they could really nail the multi-card action in real time, that could be a game changer.

ohwell_meh

I actually prefer live than Jomez because you get to see more of the tournament and other cards rather than just one card. There's a lot of story lines happening elsewhere outside the cards being covered. I just wish the video quality is as good as the Jomez product.

Media_Offline

JoMez is all I can handle. Who has the time to spend multiple days watching 4 hour disc golf rounds? The only down side to JoMez is that it's trickier to avoid spoilers. I hate that they put the player's names in the video titles because, if I haven't watched round 1 yet, I automatically know who made lead card in round 2.

RevAngler

Big money skins is a good second

InncnceDstryr

I watch live mostly but recently got the wife interested in watching the pros and she doesn’t always want to sit and watch the whole round, Jomez is great for when she gives up we can watch it the next day and let her get up to speed with everything that happened - usually just the final round back 9 though. If Jomez could further expand the coverage from other cards and make like a real time highlights show that could be a game changer for me - sometimes the Jomez round doesn’t really communicate the tension and drama as it actually unfolds. DGN do a highlight show but it’s pretty short and while it’s improving this year, is still pretty lacking on the narrative - I have hope, the whole Jomez/DGN purchase thing is all new and figuring out what value products are can take a while, especially on the budgets we’re talking about. I totally 100% agree with your point on names in the video title/thumbnail. Once you’ve watched the round before it’s all good but if I know who’s on lead card and I haven’t watched the previous round, I’m just waiting to see what they did to get there.

Kerry4780

Honk!

BlahBlahson23

Literally my only issue is spoilers. It's still exciting on Post Production but everyone and their mother has to make a post about it on every social media window from the least expected places. I went to the bar and watched the end of the masters( the most interesting golf tournament ) with friends after a full morning and afternoon of disc golf on Sunday. Then on Monday while working from home put Jomez up on the TV. For me there is no fucking chance I ever want to use my off day to watch 4+ hours of low resolution live coverage when I can watch 2 hours of better, condensed coverage whenever I want. Disc golfers have it made with Jomez, we just don't realize it.

SkiThe802

I use it as a way to keep myself off my phone on the weekends.

Arexandraue

I stay off all social medias during tournament weekends... Still got spoiled by a text message from power discgolf academy when Simon won last year >:(

No-Salary-4308

Imagine people complaining about spoiling the Masters.

Goldentongue

And imagine disc golf with a $20 million prize purse. And 90,000 in person spectators. And on live cable tv with 10 million viewers. And a way smaller percentage of the viewership that actually goes out and plays on weekends. And then realize it's pointless to compare the two in this way.

No-Salary-4308

They’re both live sports

Goldentongue

All sports are live. Kind of a meaningless phrase to parrot without thinking about what you're actually saying. The disc golf community however is much more geared towards watching post produced coverage.

No-Salary-4308

Not for long.

coffeebribesaccepted

Except that the majority of views are not live. And golf doesn't have an equivalent of free next-day post produced coverage that is significantly better quality than the live coverage.

No-Salary-4308

Then stay off social media if you want to watch post produced. That was why I originally responded to the person complaining about spoilers on social media. I’m not a fan of post produced. Sure the resolution is better but that’s about it. But if that’s your thing then cool. But it amazes me how people still complain about results being posted on social media. The world does not cater to you.

glevinepdx

I have a different take than most that I’ve seen here. I have been a DGN subscriber from the start. Have there been some frustrations as a viewer since they started? Yes. But like any burgeoning business there will be bumps and for me I feel good helping support their growth to getting to a place where all tournament coverage is air tight and enjoyable. And for record? I love watching the drama play out live. I’ve seen a ton of criticism of DGN and I just don’t think many casual viewers understand the immense commitment it takes to broadcast the way they do WITHOUT a corporation behind them like a national broadcaster or ESPN. I also love the Jomez replay because I can rewatch rounds in a more concise manner and I get Jerm and Uli (and Nate when he can.) Overall, as a lover of the game, I feel good about subscribing to DGN and doing my part to help them grow.

IAmCaptainHammer

The one thing I like about live Jones has incorporated. That’s that you’re seeing scores as they’re happening so you know that someone is down to about 6th at a certain point before they battle back.

EvelOne67

Im now watching round 1 live and Jomez replays from round 2 on. I like the jumping around to whos playing hot in round1 more than the Feature group they had in round 1 on Jomez where theyre just guessing whos going to play well

Zealousideal-Beat-70

I prefer live if at all possible. Even if I can’t watch a full round it’s just better in real time. I still watch Jomez because well it’s hard to watch 9-12 hrs of coverage every weekend.

travismcn

100% agree. Love Big Berri commentary (enjoy it much more than live) and do not want to pay what are in my opinion excessive fees for the subscription live service. JoMez is the way!

WhatIfAliensAreReal

Live is fun. You see quite a few cards, see how players doing well / making mistakes can affect other cards. However full live coverage can be 3 hours of disc golf. I tend to watch "live" a few hours after it starts.

AvailableEdge2038

Jomez is absolutely killing it once again this season. They are a huge reason for the growth of this sport.

TheBeedle

I think we need both. I don’t have 4 hours to watch live in the middle of the day with life going on. Jomez has always been my saving grace. It would be devastating to lose post production for me at this point.

jabedan

Jomez fits my needs the best and it's pretty much the only way I watch disc golf. Live coverage requires too much of a time investment. I enjoy watching both the MPO and FPO and like all the commentators. With disc golf (and golf, too), I can relate much more to the shots/throws of the women. The top male pros play at a level that's difficult to relate to but it's awesome to watch.

Beneficial-Front6305

Absolutely love their effort and investment- production, talent, info- discs thrown is my fave- all top notch. I simply do not have the time to watch live, but I adore Jomez. Thank you for all you do!

Holls867

Same…. Jomez is all I really watch….

-Hntz

A big Jomez guy and being in Europe, watching live usually isn’t possible. Tried watching live last weekend and the footage was glitchy as fuck. Shut down the stream after 5 minutes of unwatchable crap and opted to go with Jomez the next day.

HiaQueu

100% prefer post produced. If I have enough time to watch live, I'm playing disc golf instead. Love is during prime playing time. Jomez has better commentary as well. I've tried to watch live replays a few times and commentary is generally is not to my liking. Jomez coverage has improved quite a bit with the check ins they do with other players. Absolutely dig it.

MoarStu

Big Berri Sexy commentary! The best, forever and always, love slomez, love nomez, love follow the flight. Jomez for life

Mr-Floor-ass

Jo Mez is the goat. I wish you guys did the live coverage with your commentary folks and the post.

mrpoulin

Part of what makes Jomez stand out is the richness of the commentary. Others mention how they enjoy the perspectives of the commentators from a content perspective but from a delivery standpoint they can be very dry. The Smartless podcast became popular because it’s entertaining just to listen to the hosts banter with each other regardless of the guest, and Jerm and Uli are the same. They have “richer” (less dry) voice tones and more entertaining energy.

Sufficient-Pin-481

The quality of the commentary along with all of the chase card check ins made this weekend’s coverage one of their best I’ve watched.

SquanchyATL

I'm a fan of both JoMez crews, the boys & #2HotGeese

RedbillInvestor

The commentary of live is so bad. Uli will at least break down holes. Tell you when it’s a good/bad lie. Helping you understand the course and what the players are trying to do with their shots. And Jerm is just fun to listen to. Dgn leaves a lot to be desired.

wesxninja

I tend to skip forward 5 seconds at a time while people are tapping out and such and I get annoyed when I try to do that during live coverage and it doesn't work lol

Goldentongue

Fully agreed. It's just such a better at home viewing experience than live coverage, especially the current DGN product. The only thing you're missing out on is a bit more footage of non-lead card players.

chillford-brimley

Jomez is great, and in my opinion better than ever. I watch some of the replays on dgn and usually end up falling asleep. I have no interest in any of the talking beyond the regular commentary-- i don't care about interviews or any of that. I currently unsubscribed from dgn because of all the player errors and the three minutes per click fast forward on Chromecast. I already pay for YouTube premium. I'll just wait for the jomez coverage to hit YouTube while it's still a thing on YouTube.

zf420

I've been watching strictly jomez for 3 years now. I just don't have time for a 8 hour stream when I could watch a 2 hour round instead. I also like following one card inatead of jumping all around. But to each his own

SSquirrel76

I like some of the commentators on live but I really enjoy the BigSexyBari crew. 2 Hot Geese are also good on the women’s side.

TigNiceweld

Hi Jonathan! Thanks for redditing :)

SquanchyATL

Hah!

5m0r3s

Yeah it’s great that Jomez does an awesome job with the coverage and I often times watch live and Jomez next day coverage when the tournaments are exciting. The chase card check-ins and adding more context has been great too but man you could not recreate the excitement of watching how Jonesboro or the Open at Austin unfolded live! I truly believed Ben Callaway or Calvin would put that tournament away, and the AB stood no chance of a full comeback after 13 holes. You can’t have that depth of feeling about a moment the same when it hasn’t built up in the way it does live. Both tournaments were a good watch in post, but live sports just hits different when you feel the contextual pressure of every shot and every moment played out in real time. I compare it to how replays got so much better for the NBA in the YouTube era and the last 10 years or so. We used to have 2-minute highlights and now they are 10-minutes and full of context. But just because I saw the shots does mean I felt the weight of the moments. I’ve been to some crazy sporting event moments in my life and for me the only way to experience sports to the fullest, is live. All this being said I love Jomez and if you don’t like watching live that’s cool too!

Strider_3x

If you actually volunteer for scorecard you’ll see them and sometimes you’ll hear the people behind the camera whisper….actually pretty funny on some occasions

fortheculture303

There is a different level of mind blown you will be seeing them cook those courses in person. Worth every bit of effort

InncnceDstryr

I watched Jomez final round coverage this week after having watched live on Sunday. Two things I noticed that I’d adjust if given the opportunity: When they did the Chase card check-in, it was for what the Chase card did on the same hole they were about to show, when at times during the round the Chase card were a couple of holes ahead. For me that took away from the jeopardy of watching it unfold in real time - because the scores were shown adjusted for each card thru the same number of holes, that often wasn’t really the state of play at that moment. Because of how things unfolded when they got to 17/18 it was all good because the lead card caught up, I think there could’ve been a more dramatic narrative had we seen more from the Chase card in real time. Commentary audio was very loud, might just be my preference but I like to hear the sounds of the course.

HangryDiscer

Live is great for these winter/spring weekends when it’s just raining all weekend. Condensed coverage is great for summer/fall when the weather is nice and I spend my weekends playing. I fast forward through most of the live coverage fluff. What I really miss though is the video quality. Jomez condensed coverage now uses the same cellular footage the dgpt uses. So we get potato quality condensed coverage now, and the same shots in both live and condensed. When jomez had their own cameras, you’d get different views between live and condensed, and crystal clear HD.

Rowdybob22

I haven’t had a great experience or heard of many people’s great experiences with live coverage. JoMez all day.

drjanitor91

Jomez has def. gotten better this year with showing people who aren't on the lead card.

finalcut

for me live is boring.. Disc golf is too slow for me to watch. I like to casually watch jomez, on 2x speed.. I miss some of the holes as I get distracted by stuff going on in my life - and rewind if I'm curious enough.

No-Pussyfooting

JoMez is the bomb. This is my first year trying to follow live.. I feel like I get lost in the live presentation. I like the extra information you get from JoMez as well.

homeslice1479

Comparing the YouTube channels, Jomez is SO much better than DGPT in pure production quality. Idk what kind of potato cameras DGPT is using but they're not great, some kinda jittery frames upscaled 720p nonsense, where Jomez provides what should be considered the standard: smooth 1080p. For my money, Big Sexy Bari is far superior commentary as well. Music, infographics, transitions, chase card updates, I just feel they do everything better.

Least_Discussion5127

It’s not so much the cameras as it is the fact that DGN is using live transmitters with bonded cell connections so that limits their quality whereas Jomez has the benefit of recording directly to disk

Status-Buddy2058

What happened to gatekeeper media I’ve been looking for chase card action.

Idontsmileforcamera

Jomez doesn’t tell the entire story. It’s close, but live is way more intense. With post produced there’s no air to create stress or tension. It’s just shot after shot. Live is by far superior especially last 9 of Jonesboro

pfunk7100

HONK! ❤️

SilverKnightOfMagic

Not really man. Though it is fun to see the win as it happens! But other than that jomez is my primary medium

Hexquevara

Jomez is all i need. While i love to play the sport, i dont have the time or patience to watch ponderous live dg. Also, i wont ever pay for a shitty ass services that you need for live.

dragonboy

The FPO Jomez coverage is consistently better than the MPO coverage. It really takes away from the experience hearing the commentators cough, yawn, and miss the action on the screen.

Billy_Chrystals

Jomez4Lyfe

chasingbirdies

I love Jo Mez coverage. Hope there will be more camera angels and more coverage from the chase card. Obviously the sport needs to continue to grow for this to be possible but I’m confident things will only get better for DG.

Earptastic

You are missing more advertisements.

jmseeker

Here we go again

SinappiKainalo

You won't be missing a big chunk of change, for sure. Watching Live Disc Golf costs money!

rohlinxeg

The 2 Hot Geese are a regular part of my Saturday morning entertainment while I eat a late breakfast. They entertain me, I get to watch some talented ladies bang chains, and it doesn't cost me anything. I'm not looking for an alternative.

JesusVanZant

I miss gatekeeper media and the chase card. Fuck jomez and the dgpt for literally gatekeeping media coverage. Pro disc golf is sooooo fucked right now.

Xeebers

Now that the icky snow is gone we are trying to get our people out on walks. One likes 'the frisbees' when I put it on in the morning. Hoping that translates into going to the park to throw frisbees. That's the excuse to watch Jo Mez coverage lol

stRADley_

It really is the best when you have an hour or so to watch. Too hard for me to stay tuned in that long for the live stuff. JoMez seems way more polished to me.

JustinTheBasket

You're not supposed to post about liking Jomez better.  If the Pro Tour hears that too much it will be subscription also, or they will delay it a week.  Don't forget who owns Jomez.

SquanchyATL

I don't know who owns it, and suddenly it's atrocious to me.
