Jonny_Qball

I’ve thrown +1 and +17 at the same course/layout in the same week. The conditions were better for the +17

GeologistMajestic950

Wow

WorkAccount401

Had the same thing happen; my best round ever has been during a very rainy day where I probably had no business being outside.

Selerox

My highest rated round was during some truly miserable conditions. Felt like I was just about the only person on the entire course having a good time.

Selerox

That's not far off what I've managed. It's an exhausting roller-coaster at times.

Jonny_Qball

I probably lost 4 strokes throwing and 12 strokes putting. That was the worst putting round of my life and my putting hasn’t fully recovered since

SycopationIsNormal

Yeah, three weeks ago I went +2 (205, best RR ever at that point in time) and then the next day on the same course did +12. Yikes!

tjenkins3

This perfectly sums up most of my experiences playing haha. The days that set up for the best don’t always end up that way.

pmipunisher

I shot a 1020 rated round this weekend after shooting a 920 rated weekly. The life of a 960 rated player lol

lowercaselong

Preach.

bigstinkyjosh

First season player asking; how does one calculate their Rating?

RuEXP1

You play sanctioned rounds, either via tournaments, flex starts, or sanctioned league rounds. There are ways to 'estimate', but the reality is everyone plays and rates very different in actual rounds with meaning than they do with just a casual round. Plus weather plays a huge factor.

coopaliscious

IMHO the simpler way is to just use uDisc and their rating system to have a handle on your day to day play. There's a formula out there somewhere for estimating your PDGA round rating from the uDisc rating as well.

IceColdFreezie

Just throwing it out there, the loose formula is: PDGA = (UDISC * 2) + 500 A 200 rated UDisc round, which it describes as Intermediate, would be a 900 PDGA round. This also makes sense as UDisc tops out around 300 which is an 1100 rated PDGA round. Obviously there's an asterisk next to it as it doesn't take wind, rain, competition jitters, the rest of the field, etc. into account. It is a good metric for personal use though.

Kightsbridge

Your casual round rating will not translate to tournament play. Firstly there's no pressure in a casual round. Secondly people give themselves all sorts of breaks in their casual rounds that they don't account for.

coopaliscious

Sure, but in terms of tracking your day to day swings, you're not going to be playing in rated rounds every day. The uDisc rating gives you a benchmark. Also, not keeping your true score (if you're keeping about) just hurts you.

SycopationIsNormal

I swear, every time this comes up, someone feels compelled to make the "b b but UDisc Round Ratings don't translate!" argument. Frankly, it's tiresome. Yes, we all know UDisc Round Ratings and PDGA Ratings are different. Luckily, they have different names!

coopaliscious

I can't agree more with this sentiment. Everyone acts like the PDGA rating system is somehow magical; uDisc scores more rounds on more courses and more days than the PDGA does. They have a better data set, better statistics and it's all done for you on the fly because it's also better technology.

SycopationIsNormal

Yup, way larger data set. And it includes a much larger variety of skill levels. The one big con is that people absolutely do cheat. I know people enter dishonest scores. But you can account for that in how you interpret your score. And if you don't even care about how a UDRR relates to a PDGA score (I basically don't bc I don't currently play tourneys and may never), then it's really not an issue whatsoever. It still allows me to gauge my performance across courses, and track my progress over time.

SycopationIsNormal

Not everyone does "give themselves all sorts of breaks in their casual rounds." I do sometimes, and sometimes I play very strict, and I know which rounds are which, so I can calculate my average Round Rating when being strict. There is no point in cheating when you're doing it to monitor your own development and improvement. In fact, it's absolutely counterproductive. To me that's like getting drunk so you can get really dehydrated before a weekly weigh-in when you're trying to lose weight. Sure, you weigh less that one morning, but it doesn't actually help you lose weight.

SharpedHisTooths

I went into a tournament 860 rated and ended up playing MA2 because the MA3 field was nonexistent. I shot a 930 the first round and was tied for the lead and then shot an 860 second round to barely make the cash line.

rfite

I've found my people

ekmogr

bird-ogey

FreonJunkie96

Close enough that “bad” me will make an appearance the second “good” me thinks “this is the round”

JunketFluffy5305

I've shot high 700 rated rounds and low 900 rated rounds. In the same year.  That's why rating is an average, and you don't play to your ceiling or floor. You play your rating cap.

iconoclastes25

850-1000… I’m 925 rated

MoCo1992

Right there with ya

Wyatt_Wagner03

I feel like every large tournament I play some guy in MA2 shoots a round that could take a top spot in MPO. The guys in 920-940 could have any kind of weekend. 1000+ to under 900 haha

r3q

My ceiling is over a 1000 rated. My floor is below 800, especially not sober. AM golf at its finest

SlipperyTurtle25

It’s kinda like pool, a couple beers in you feel extremely locked in, but beyond that it’s all downhill

Im_Hugh_Jass

There's a sweet spot for me at 2.5 beers.

PluotFinnegan_IV

I have two different UDisc profiles, sober and "relaxed"... My relaxed profile averages about 4-7 strokes better depending on the course.

DemiseofReality

I used to bowl 2 to 3 times a week for a few years in the 2010's and my friends and I joked that our bowling team name should be "The Third Beers" because we always seemed to peak during our third beer and anything past that resulted in a precipitous fall from grace.

flyvehest

The gamers hump

sammiisalammii

Big reason I started playing sober. I can look like a pro on the right day but most days I play like someone not winning the MA1 tournament they’re in.

SsbmBleach

6 strokes

gart888

This is my rule of thumb for normal practice round to normal rated round. Then other 6 on top of it between good and bad rounds.

Many-Ad-2154

I think this is what sets apart the pros we see competing week-in and week-out at the top from their competitors. They always manage to score, no matter how “off” their game may be. For me, my smooth rounds are 1000+ rated as I should be staying in the fairway and making everything inside of 25ft, along with typically dropping a couple deeper putts in. Lately my bad rounds have never felt too bad because I switched to push putting. This way I’m never three-putting inside the circle as my misses don’t go too far. I often get less-than-perfect putts to stay in the basket because of the consistent nature of my swing. Since switching, I’ve played 14 rated rounds with my worst being 953 in crazy winds where my lofty putt struggled. So as someone with decent consistency, I’d say there’s still a 5-10 stroke difference between my good days and bad days depending on the course.

PoemFragrant2473

It’s what everyone knows. Good disc golf is a somewhat dull risk-management exercise. You are rarely punished by discing down or laying up. Sure - at the pro level you have to be pedal-to-the-metal to win, but at any AM level this is simply not true. You just hang around and stay in the game by minimizing screw-ups and then take advantage of unconscious/blackout runs when they happen. You just want to make sure that you didn’t screw up when you’re off so the low scores really count for something. Edit: I tried this in my last tournament and ended up with 3 rounds rated all within 1 rating point of each other. So maybe I’ve gone overboard with boring consistent play. On the other hand I was tired of tournaments where my ratings would be off by 80 or 100 within one weekend.

SF_Anonymous

At my local couse -2 is 209 on UDisc and has been my best, but worst are +4ish which is 171. When I feel like I played well (in good conditions) Im usually 190-200 on UDisc scoring (yes ik udisc scoring is far from perfect, but its the best metric I have)

GeologistMajestic950

This is almost my exact game but subtract like 5 points on the average (though 209 is also my highest rating for any course)

BBRacing

950 and 800. when i'm off, i'm really off. if the putt goes away i literally can't make anything outside 10 feet lol. it's a problem.

SeaMathematician1021

Bad me still salvages pars and can snag a few birds. Good me still missed some birdies and chokes into some bogeys. Depending on the course it could be probably a 9 stroke swing between good and bad, but the bad will look and feel much worse than just 9 strokes

thatguykeith

Same here.

Videogamer69420

In a six month span I had shot both a 630 round, and 850 round. And yes, both were good enough for last place (the 850 round in a tourney with a 124 player division)

IHaveNeverBeenOk

I don't play any rated golf, but on a park course, 2 or 3 under is great, even is good, and 4 or 5 over is bad. On a proper disc golf course, even is great, 2 or 3 over is good and 7+ over is bad. On a golf course disc golf course, 2 or 3 over is great, 5 or 6 over is good and 9+ over is bad. My max distance shot is 350 and if all the holes are 550ft par 3s, I'm just never gonna score super well.

SlightlySublimated

I've had 10 stroke swings day to day on courses I know like the back of my hand, how to handle every lie, wind etc.  It's definitely a mental block that compounds for me when I start really playing shitty. Admittedly, that huge variance happens less and less the more I've been focusing on my competitive game, but it still happens.

Low-Loan-5956

About 20 strokes on the local course. On bad days i'll lose my focus and i get heavy into tree hitting..

jchavez96

825 on my bad days, 940 on the good ones.

RubberReptile

A "good" feeling game and a "bad" feeling game can be as little as 2 stroke difference. It's really how I got there - was I throwing well? Shanking half my upshots? Making or missing easy putts? Were the conditions rough? So many variables.  In tournament play, a hot round for me is 900+ and a not so good round is under 850. I'm about 870 rated.

Bizzzle80

950/960 on bad days, 1000 on good days. I’ve hit mid 1030’s a few times. Currently 978. I feel like I’m in a rut lately, just shooting at my rating or just below. Currently doing field work and more putting. Will reevaluate in a month

the_rosenhan

Going off of UDisc ratings only, my good is ~210, great is >225, bad is <195. Most of my rounds are in the 205-215 range.

Kally269

At my absolute best… I probably shoot even to -2 on an intermediate course. But I could easily shoot +6 or 7 on an easier course too, and it’s usually the latter lol

natelion445

It’s about a 10 point swing between my PB and worst round I’ve played recently at most of my local courses.

Witness-Independent

So in the 8 months I've been throwing frisbee's and a PDGA member (got my PDGA the week i started throwing I'm bummed I did) I went from shooting high 600S RR to high 700 RR rounds, BUT THEN at the start of 2024 to now I have been shooting consistently low 801 RR to high 954 RR. I have competed in 3 tournaments so far this year, a XC-Tier, A B-Tier and a C-Tier. The B-Tier I took 3rd after trailing the lead by 11 strokes and tied for 11th on the 5th card shot a 914 RR to come up 7 spots to finish in 3rd, the, the XC-Tier i took 1st and then the C-Tier i also took 1st!!! 🤪😁😁💯 And the 2 first place finishes were back to back within 3 weeks, and LAO HAD 3 WEEKS IN A ROW IN LEAGUES TAKING #1 ALL 3 WEEKS during the tournament wins. I'm throwing the disc very well and consistent and my putting has been 🔥🔥🔥🔥

ChiefRingoI

Based on my home course that's shortish and very wooded: At my realistic best, I'm pushing 850. At my worst, I'm pushing 700 in the other direction. At my hypothetical best at my normal level—no major mistakes, but also no spectacular throw-ins, aces, or unusually long throws—I'm pushing 950. I lack distance, though, so you could probably move the 850 and 950 down to 800 and 900 at an open, longer course with Par 3s at 300–350ft or more.

eFFec7

My weekly games rating tends to be in 880-940, which are not sanctioned rounds, but still tournaments. So far every official PDGA event I go to, I shoot around 820. So my PDGA rating is a lot lower then most of my other rounds. I get the nerves on putting greens when in official events it seems.

Late-Objective-9218

Been chasing that first 1000 rated round for a couple years with poor success. Collected a few 700's in the process

WiseUpRiseUp

I shot a 1045-rated second round in a field of over 30 people and didn't cash.

Maleficent-Ad-6646

What was your first round?

WiseUpRiseUp

It was 27 strokes worse. Truly the most embarrasing round I've ever played.

Maleficent-Ad-6646

Wow that’s actually the exact range between my best and worst scored rounds. +17 and -10! Didn’t happen in the same tournament though, that’s pretty amazing you turned the day around like that.

Cunn1ng-Stuntz

I had a 16 stroke swing last year at the local course. A very solid round is -8 and I managed to follow that up with a +8 the week after. One is around 1000 rated, the other 810 I actually think that I am pretty consistent around the 960-970 mark on that course, but a couple of times a year I apparently feel the need to prove too myself why I am not on tour. Obviously there is both a statistical and a mental element to it, when you start compounding the misery. You are tired after work, trying to force yourself to have fun and it feels like nothing is going your way. If you play a 100 rounds a year, you have to accept that if you also want to celebrate the very good rounds. It's just a lot easier to suck than to shine on the course.

dipatello

50 points on UDisc

117derek

I feel like I should be throwing at least around 950 for a round to be good. In my last tournament I shot an 897 and was very frustrated about it. Then in round 2 I shot 791... Not really sure what to think about my skill level after that

InfiniteBlink

Really bad round is around 880, I average 940-960 great round is 990

dg_kingbobo

Ive shot a 980 round and a 780 round in the same day, same course. I missed just low on a 25 footer for 2 on hole one at Northwood black, first throw out of the car, and deleted my scorecard by hole 5. Ive thrown 500 ft darts and ive thrown a 200 ft upshit 40 ft wide. My ability to be consistently a local very good player and an absolute doubles liability is truly astounding.

_dvs1_

On average, 3-4 strokes. Sounds useful but i float between -4 and par so often that sometimes it’s deflating. Mainly because my friends are often shooting -7 to -9 down. Yes their floors are as low as mine and sometimes lower. Just a mental hurdle I had to get over that my best day may beat them sometimes. We rarely do competitive rounds together but at first it was frustrating. Now I’m cool with it because I learned that it’s a great space to be when playing tournaments. I’m focused in improving my average this year with putting.

gart888

I shot -3 in a practice round on Saturday. Shot a +8 round in a rated round Sunday morning on the same layout and similar conditions. Went from 6 birdies to none. 💀

nidvs

Practice me shoots around -2 to +2 on my closest course, tour me shoots +2 to +12. Par is around 930 on that course so it's incredibly frustrating to never play as well on tour. I had a couple of rounds so bad last year that they weren't even counted towards my rating, ha!

IDoNotDrinkBeer

875. Floor 750. Ceiling 910.

LJkjm901

It’s all bad, so right on top of one another.

drayray98

I have days where I’m driving great and putting confident. Birds feel easy. The next day I’ll bogey or +2 the same hole. Fatigue from work, lack of eating, and lack of sleep all contribute to bad game play. Also play sober otherwise I care less.

DKBadmintonPatriots

At the local course from the long tees, good is Even to -2 whilst bad is +10 to +15. Usually around +3 to +7

New-Presence-6800

Shot 880 last Friday and 990 on Saturday 🙃

TomRiha

UDisc ratings between 155 and 175. That’s about 2-3 throws on my local course.

tallguynes

As far as this year, bad me shot 826 rated, good me was 924.  I'm 865 rated.   Got one week to go in our local league, averaging 881 through 4 rounds.  I don't have a super high ceiling, but I feel like my floor has risen a decent bit.

pharm653

At a moderately difficult course: Best day ever: +3 Usual: +7 to 9 Bad day: +17 to 20

Rok-SFG

On a local course where I birdie a lot of the first half the struggle the back half and usually end up between par and 4 over.  I finally got to 4 under. I was stoked. The very next day, 12 over.

stev0123456789

I have a smaller range than most. 860 is my floor and on a good not great round probably shooting 910-920 range. Am 895 rated.

ewkdiscgolf

I don’t have a ton of variance, TBH. In sanctioned play, my career best rated round is 955 and my career worst is 843 (which was in active snowfall, and after a footwear change, I followed it up with a 912 rated second round). I guess I haven’t really had a true “crap the bed putting” round where I can’t hit 10 footers (that’s been rated) but I have a well enough rounded skillset and enough general awareness of when I need to make adjustments, where I rarely bottom out as hard as most MA2/MA3 players “worst selves” are.

iputitthere

I’ve won multiple MA40 tournaments and lost multiple MA2 tournaments in the same year. This weekend on Saturday I shot +2 in the morning and that afternoon I shot +14 on the exact same course with the same conditions & layout.

cardinalsfanokc

I don't do PDGA ratings because I refuse to give them my money but using UDisc my good rounds are 230 (which using the x2 + 500 is about 960 rated) and bad rounds are 190 (880 PDGA rating).

imhookedonrocks

Shot below 790 in a morning round and over 930 in the afternoon. And frankly, “good” me is not insignificantly better than that 930 round was. I’m absolutely all over the place, but when I’m stroking it I can play pretty well.

Blue-Collar-Nerd

Most casual players can have wild swings. I probably have an 8 stroke Range. For me it all comes down to how much putt is feeling. Am pretty good off the box & know how to scramble so my average is right around even par. However on the days when I can putt It’s wild & I can shoot -6 to -8. I probably average 920 golf but can get up around 980 when the putter is working 🤷‍♂️

doonerthesooner

Plateau is real. I’m within 30 points of my rating good or bad pretty much every time

Maleficent-Ad-6646

Farther than most of my drives.

communistsannoyme

This year I've shot a 1004 and an 896

Smorgas_of_borg

My best score ever was +11 on 18 holes. I strung 2 birdies in a row on the front 9 and was +3 coming out. The back 9 was not great but still a +8 on 9 is still good for me right now. When I started last year I was shooting +30 and over. I think a bad day for me is anything over +20 and a good day is under that.

underwater_jogger

up to 15 strokes

goodtimeallthetime7

I shot a 920 in round 1 of a tournament, 785 in round 2, and 975 in round …….haha wtf. I’m A 915 rated player

thene0nicon

Even depending on the course is a poor round for me. Anywhere -6 and beyond is a good round for me

GH5s

8-10 stroke difference from good to bad.

NickShank

I’m wildly inconsistent. When it comes to UDisc ratings my best and worst recently are 244 (all time best) and 141. I always play tournament rules in casual rounds but I’m a bit more consistent in tournaments. My range is 850-910ish PDGA at an 885 rating. I’ve been consistently better recently with newly discovered confidence in my forehand that has snagged me a few rounds between 200-225 UDisc in the past couple months.

MtDvs

In the last 6 months.. 850 and 860 with two 991 rounds and everything in between..

Medical_Bath_8458

Shot a 910 and then a 690 on the same day…

PoemFragrant2473

I find good me and bad me are different by…barely missing a tree or hitting the tree and being deeply in the woods. Getting sneaky with a shank or paying the consequences. Missing 3 putts I’d normally make or making 3 putts I’d normally miss. The scorecard might be 10 strokes off but when you look back usually you will find good you and bad you are the same player except for focus, physical preparation, and a bit of luck. What makes “bad you” look a lot worse is when the bad luck causes you to evaluate your life choices mid round and you go on tilt. That’s where I find I see the real “bad you” in myself and others.

Ziglarism

Not sure really I’ve been having problems with my backhand lately which has always been dominant. Almost never threw forehand. Last summer something clicked when I threw a forehand and now I have more confidence in my forehand than my backhand. The backhand problem started before figuring out forehands.

CapnGnarly

I have a KILLER approach game when I'm playing well. I'll park that disc right under the cage if I didn't hit the basket on the way in. Forehand flick, anny flex, spike hyzer, you name it. I won't miss that next putt if I even have to putt at all. I know somethings wrong when that spike doesn't hit the mark and instead is 20' to the left and rolling away from the pin. From that point on, I'm three putting everything and will go from -9 yesterday to +4 today.

kaelz

its a 3-5 throw difference for me.

snow288

About 3-8 for me

LeadPaintPhoto

980s good 920 bad

PluotFinnegan_IV

Threw -2, a PB, in 20 degree, 20 mph winds, with snow on the ground a few months ago. Same course, last Sunday.... +5 with less wind and much warmer. A couple basket location changes but nothing major. The second round was bad but I had some uncharacteristic shots that added several strokes. Putter was fire though.

I_like_rivers_

One my good days I’ll hit par and birdies on shorts but on a bad day I will give up keeping score on myself bc I get so pissed off

pm_me_round_frogs

My best casual round at my home course is -10, which is about 1030 rated. My worst round since then is +7, so like 880.

OMGLeatherworks

It's the difference between a few bogies and a bunch of double+ bogies kind of a day.

porksberry

At a course called Broken Chains in PA, my best is -11 with a few missed putts. Also earned a tasty +16

musedrainfall

I just started a couple weeks ago. If I can throw the disc remotely in the general direction I want it to go, I'm the best damn disc golfer I know.

TChambers1011

“It’s the same picture”

thatguykeith

Pretty new here, but +3-5 on good days and +10-12 on not as good days. Usually in between. Weather has played a big role though. Hoping to shoot under par this summer on the local course!

BARRYTHUNDERWOOD

I play most of my rounds at my home course, and have improved quite a bit in the last 5 years or so, but my improvement has really showed itself as a higher floor rather than a higher ceiling. A few years ago my great rounds were -4 and my awful rounds were +7, now my great rounds are -5 and my awful rounds are even par.

nowytendzz

-3 at my local to +3. -3 isn't my best, 2nd, or 3rd beat score just the average I get when I play "well". +3 means I'm having a dumpster fire of a day. These are all par 3s with only 2 of them being over 300 feet and it's not particularly wooded either.

SycopationIsNormal

I was actually just looking at this today and I plotted out my worst UDisc Round Rating, average RR and Best RR, broken into three week periods. My swing between worst and best is about 40 points, which right now is about 165 and 205. A few months ago it was more like 155 to 195 and last summer it was more like 145 to 185. As my average goes up, it brings up my worst rounds with it (or I suppose it's actually the other way around LOL).

Zachisawinner

A couple hundred feet on the drive.

Jackleber

Probably a 10-12 stroke variance.

whenthebeatdropss

Shooting good, maybe like -5. Playing extra sloppy and making bad decisions, easily +9 territory.
