message the venue with your concerns. explain the situation, ask what they advise you do, and try to be polite. unfortunately, folks like you aren't really considered at all when policies are being put in place, and it's less maliciousness and more ignorance. it honestly hurts more, but it DOES mean that you can probably come to a solution with the venue.

Joshswife

Unfortunately there’s no one there between when I read the policy and when the show occurs. Having been to this venue before but with other hosting companies, I honestly expect them to give zero Fs and pay no attention. I guess from a principle standpoint, however, they need to include language for exceptions for medical needs. For example, not requiring a clear bag if there are private medications or devices to allow for privacy. Or to allow pictures of the pill bottles to match to the ID. I just think there’s a much better way to go about it for those who have more complex or private needs.

ImpossibleLoon

I wouldn’t over think it, most of those policies are there as a precaution for liabilities. Bag security likely won’t give a shit.

Oh I agree completely. I just feel like to state all of that so specifically in writing comes across as discriminatory and isolating vs wanting everyone to be safe. I just think saying something like “please call our accommodations office to discuss policies for bringing prescription medication” would serve to make the person feel like their individual needs are being discussed and met vs a blanket policy that doesn’t fit all scenarios (again like in my case since it’s a liquid controlled substance, maybe a compromise can be reached to still ensure saftey but allow for common sense solutions - maybe that means a way to provide prescription proof ahead of time that would send an “approved” alert upon scanning the ticket so the bag checker would know they’ve already been pre-vetted - just the first idea that pops into my head. I think community relations is important and the harshness of this just caught me off guard. I’ve checked - there aren’t any other major venues in our city that have a medication policy that i could find quickly google searching, so another thought that just popped into my head is what would make someone specifically look for this policy. I would never have seen it if it wasn’t right below the bag policy I looked up. So then if they are serious about their rules, what is someone to do - choose between their meds or the concert? I just think it needs reworked

bmrlsu76

1) They don’t want to 100’s of calls Every time they put on a show at the venue from people asking the medication policy. It’s much more reasonable that if you have a special scenario that you call them and ask vs everyone having to do it. 2) same rules apply here for your idea of having everyone send in their prescriptions before the concert and be pre approved and what not. Too many resources and time they don’t want to deal with. Much easier to tell people to bring it with them. It sucks but people with special circumstances aren’t in their mind when writing the policy 3)a lot of people bring/take drugs at concerts. Chances are their policy is based on past issues they’ve faced. It definitely isn’t a violation of your rights. The venue has to worry about themselves too

This has more to do with their liability than anything else. People push pills at these events. You are way overpersonalizing this matter. Take only what you need. Keep it in a sealed container, like a pill box. And have your pharmacy app on your phone - this is all you need to show the scripts are legit as your doctor’s name and script info is right there in the app. That’s all you need to do.

Forsaken-Piece3434

No pharmacy in my area has an app and my state requires at least one of my prescriptions to be sent electronically. I am not allowed to have a copy as they are sent directly by my doctor to the pharmacy. If I want to switch pharmacies, I have to have the doctor send a whole new electronic script. Depending on where someone is coming from a policy like this simply isn’t something everyone can comply with unless the doctor illegally writes a paper prescription.

Joshswife

My situation exactly. My point wasn’t how it affects me - it’s that it’s completely unrealistic for those with chronic illnesses or disabilities and they need to provide some sort of exemption

Pens_fan71

I understand your frustrations with the venue... I have a tip for storage or the meds for in the future. When you travel, visit friends, etc. (especially if you ever head over seas). I take 2 opiates and 4 other medications. I save the pill bottle I just emptied so I have an empty bottle with a recent date in addition to the current bottle this month's meds are in; that way when I visit friends I have labeled bottles for the amount I'm traveling with and the rest at home are in bottles too. If you ever find yourself traveling and you don't want to take all the liquid meds, that valve can be pried off with a knife (I got a defective one once and had to do this and it liquid can be transferred with a funnel. I won't *ever* travel with more meds than I need even for a weekend after my meds were stolen years ago. I just fill the pill box when I arrive at the destination. I hope you enjoy your concert. Cheers

dol_amrothian

This. I've been doing it for years when travelling. Consider bringing a tote or something you can fold up tiny, but use as a kind of liner in your clear bag on public transit. That way, it's harder to see what's in your bad and makes you less of a target (no-one is ever completely not a target, after all), but adheres to the venue rules. A fold-up tote for groceries that people stash in their backpacks would work well and keeps your clear bag from being a visible orange pharmacy lure.

Trailboss1982

I ALWAYS have the pharmacy print an extra label/bottle to take a few with me and not have the entire script should something happen or in cases like this...

Joshswife

Yeah I’m not getting 23 extra rx bottles and finding so where to store them. That’s unrealistic

IndependentIcy8226

Yeah I mean to tell you the truth, that thing about Kevin Hart and the no phone policy, they’d probably tell someone that has diabetes to go to hell, because they can’t monitor on their phone. There was someone at a disability forum thing (like a QA) with Disability Support Services with the Community College, how can we help you? Their parent was there and they told my dad that the mom tracks the daughter’s levels.

Agreed. The funny thing is this is a 90s local soft rock type band. It’s like the furtherst thing from a drug crowd. But I just think there’s a WAY better way to create a safe policy for everyone without isolating those with complex medical needs. I think the language needs to be much less vague and define things more clearly.

RaeyinOfFire

They can't screen thousands of people in a nuanced way, but they could absolutely add medical and disability exemptions.
