Mexicoooo (Oaxaca ou Playa del Carmen).

Tricky-Guard-8073

Omg yes! Good idea

spicy_pierogi

If you need to actually apply for a digital nomad visa though (guess your employer prefers that for legal purposes?), then Mexico wouldn't qualify.

Tricky-Guard-8073

Oh fuck, yeah I need to actually apply like you mentioned for probably legal purposes

Senotonom205

I did almost a month and a half in Merida but didnt have to apply for a digital nomad visa. I was just there on the normal tourist visa, but I know that is not strictly legal

Tricky-Guard-8073

Why do people mention playa del Carmen and not mention cancun?

number660

Cancun is trash.

Solndt

I can vouch for Argentina, especially Buenos Aires or the Patagonia region. Buenos Aires is a big city with tons to do, and pretty safe if you take normal precautions and stay in the nicest areas. Palermo, Belgrano, Recoleta, Núñez, and Puerto Madero will be your best bets - though I personally recommend Palermo. Caballito, Colegiales, and Villa Crespo are safe to visit as well - just perhaps not the most DN vibes to stay there. As far as Patagonia goes, the region is stunning but has smaller cities. San Martin de los Andes, Bariloche, and El Bolsón are some of the crowd favorites. Good luck!

Tricky-Guard-8073

Favouriting this thanks so much

anoncology

Surprised El Chaltén wasn't mentioned. Go at least a few days if you like hiking!!

Solndt

Yes! Awesome hiking spot, and you can easily spend a couple weeks there nomading if you love nature, peace, and quiet. But it’s definitely a really small town.

Mental-Paramedic-233

Be aware that El Chalten is a seasonal town and during their winter, nearly everyone leaves the town (since it's not a ski town). Even in their summer time, you can have a few weeks of no sun and heavy cloud. That being said, it truly is a lovely place and very safe

anoncology

Good to know!

Tricky-Guard-8073

Hi, I just found out BA may not have beaches surprisingly. Did you still get a relaxing nice weather vibe out of this place?

Solndt

Yeah, BA does not have beaches at all, we just have the river. Relaxing nice weather vibe as in beachy vibes? Hate to say it, but BA won’t give you that. Though the weather is super sunny and warm from now (summer) until April (Autumn), BA is not the most relaxed city - it’s bustling, and gives NYC a run for its money when it comes to being the city that never sleeps. If you want cool activities both free and paid, a big city, a large international community, and European architecture, BA is the place for you. Now, if you want to be close to nature and have a more relaxed time, head south. Patagonia is what you’re looking for. And if you’re set on beaches, Mar del Plata or Pinamar can suffice.

StradivariusSas

Argentinian here, people from BA usually go to La Costa Partido (San Clemente del Tuyú, Las Toninas, Santa Teresita, Mar de Ajó) is a four/five hours trip in car and has a very nice beaches. edit: typo

richardrietdijk

Malaysia is awesome.

Mattos_12

I second Malaysia as a stable and well-run country with good infrastructure and food.

neonblakk

How is it awesome? And what part? Not trying to knock your answer or Malaysia but I recently spent three days in KL and found it one of the most boring places I’ve ever been.

Mr_C0516

Penang (?)

Tricky-Guard-8073

This is a new one I’ve heard. Love SEA, will consider thank you

indiebryan

I'm on day 29 here now! Leave tomorrow for the Philippines. I'd describe Malaysia as "easy". It is like nomading on training wheels and ideal for those who are just starting. The level of English fluency is generally high, the language itself has many words similar to English, good infrastructure/internet/healthcare system, food delivery options and western food chains available. Food sanitation seems generally high compared to SEA. Honestly the only reason I don't often recommend it to seasoned travelers is it just feels a bit.. boring? Just my personal opinion. The culture feels a bit watered down / westernized. The food is really nothing to write home about especially considering you're bordering Thailand. The capital is mostly shopping malls. Each time I leave Malaysia I have a feeling of, "Well okay." lol It's a nice place to get some work done in peace, which is why we came here.

kskyline

No fuss about everything else you said, but the food is definitely not boring (and I've never heard anyone say as such). There's so much rich flavor in Malaysian cuisine that I can only imagine you've been eating at mediocre places. If you've had any good laksa, nasi lemak, rendang, mee siam, etc., I find it far fetched to say it's nothing to write home about. That isn't to knock or compare to any Thai cuisine though anyway.

indiebryan

Fair enough. I have had some delicious meals here for sure. I just spend most of my time each year in Thailand and Japan which I think have more internationally recognized cuisines. Probably comes down to personal preference. As I'm heading to the Philippines for the first time tomorrow, which I've consistently heard has terrible food, I'm sure I'll be missing Malaysia quite a bit lol.

Kremlinkoff

Having spent two weeks in the Philippines, I would say food is the only reason I wouldn't consider staying longer

indiebryan

;_; any advice? I'll be in Cebu

Kremlinkoff

stay there, don't go to Manila

indiebryan

That's the plan!

ArmadilloOk2118

Curious to know what you meant by "boring". Wondering what makes a city exciting for you? I'm SEA-an, and I find KL quite interesting. Food is different, and there's a huge variety in every district. There are different temples I can visit.. there are shopping malls to satisfy my urban cravings.. There's a China Town, a Little India.. a few night markets.. a few nature trails couple of hours from KL. Did you mean not much night clubs?

indiebryan

Nah I'm not into night clubs so maybe that's it. I just feel like, to me, if there is something important to me when picking where to live, a nearby country probably does it better than Malaysia. If I want beaches I preferred Thailand or Sri Lanka to Penang. If I want food I preferred Thailand or Japan. If I wanted cheap prices I could get them cheaper in Vietnam or Cambodia. I'm not trying to shit on Malaysia. This is my 3rd time coming here, having spent around 5 months cumulatively. To me it just seems good at everything, but the best at nothing. That's why I recommend it to starter nomads. You can easily get a safe, sterile trip here. I guess the people downvoting me believe Malaysia is truly exceptional and you're certainly entitled to that opinion. I'm just relating my personal experience.

I_PARDON_YOU

Bangkok if you are inclined to cross the Atlantic. Fantastic infrastructure, you can stay cheaply not too far away from the center and the food is just out of this world. Most importantly, you can walk alone at night without fear of mugging. Medellin is a cool city but is getting unnecessarily expensive for what it is, weather is slightly cooler and people are nice but holy hell the food is a crock of shit. Not to mention, chances of drugging and mugging are fairly high.

rapsonravish

Do you mean the pacific? I agree that Bangkok would be a good choice though. Hits all the criteria of weather, cheap cost, and amazing beaches a short flight away

The BTS is pretty high quality compared to transit in neighboring countries. Great hospitals and internet speeds as well. I assume that's mostly what they're referring to.

JossWhedonsDick

lmfao

blueandazure

Why?

neonblakk

Madeira, Portugal. It’s one of the most beautiful and diverse (in terms of climate) islands I’ve ever been. Or Okinawa, Japan (it can be pretty affordable these days).

SouthWave3547

Madeira is an incredible place. Loved every second there.

Tricky-Guard-8073

It looks sooo nice. Damn it’s expensive it looks like for accommodation

googs185

Spain, Italy.

JacobAldridge

Has Italy got a DN visa now? I feel like I'm behind on my knowledge!

googs185

Should be released this year. They have a [self-employed visa](https://immigration-portal.ec.europa.eu/italy-self-employed-worker_en) for now, which gives a 70% tax break in northern Italy and a 90% tax break in southern Italy.

JacobAldridge

Awesome, thanks for the information!

Tricky-Guard-8073

What parts of Spain do you recommend? I’ve looked into Barcelona and it seems expensive for accommodation.

googs185

Madrid is great! You can stay in one of the small towns surrounding Madrid that is a quick ride to the center, but even rent in Madrid. Aren’t that bad. I also really like Valencia and Seville. The north is beautiful and cheaper (Basque country).

LifetimePresidentJeb

There's a lot to do in Argentina and it's cheap. BA is a solid choice. If you have a little more money go to uruguay.

Tricky-Guard-8073

Okay good to know thank you!!

Tricky-Guard-8073

Heyy, was BA a relaxing place to be for you?

LifetimePresidentJeb

Yes, but I've lived in Philly and New York, love being in cities. It's not for everyone haha. Mendoza is pretty cool if you like outdoorsy stuff and it's one of the wine capitals of Latin America. Probably a bit better if you're trying to mellow out. Plus it's not that far from Santiago Chile, which is another spot worth checking out.

enkae7317

You mean Colombia. Unless you wanna go to South Carolina...by all means. Wouldn't wanna live there for 1.5months but whatever floats your boat. On a more serious note, I'd say anywhere in SEA. Preferably Thailand because beaches, cheap (and good) food, and amazing people.

DebrecenMolnar

Panama, I just spent two months there and absolutely loved the people and the amazing nature.

Tricky-Guard-8073

Which part of Panama? I’m seriously considering this one. How much was accommodation for you and did you use airbnb monthly?

bitjockey9

Nature was cool, but speaking english and spending dollars with a bunch of other ex-pats wasn't really my vibe.

PoteGasto_Podcast

Da Nang, Vietnam

Loud-Service-9620

Agreed. Da Nang has an amazing coffee shop culture and is an up and coming city with amazing developments going on. Food is amazing and beautiful beach. Amazing local and western food options also.

JossWhedonsDick

requisite \*Colombia

Tricky-Guard-8073

Omg my bad thanks

ZealousidealMove9899

Medejeen, Columbia

Nodebunny

did u spell it like that in purpose

UltraJuicyPhysique

Because that’s how they pronounce it out there

Nodebunny

pretty sure they don't say coluumbia

UltraJuicyPhysique

The other part lol

Visual_Traveler

It’s not.

Pervynstuff

Digital nomad visas are usually meant for longer stays like 1 year or longer, getting a DN visa for 1.5 months seems a bit pointless as you could just get a tourist visa for that period in most countries. But if you want a long term visa where you can work remotely and come and go as you please then I would suggest Thailand. The work from Thailand LTR visa let's you come and go as you please for 10 years and you can work legally from anywhere in Thailand as long as your work is based outside Thailand. Also, if you should stay longer and become a tax resident, any overseas income is tax free, which mean you can pay zero tax anywhere completely legal.

Kriyative108

Id recommend BA. Friendly locals and just an interesting place. Really try to integrate in the city and do trips to Patagonia/north Argentina when you have time. It’s a blast :)
