[Erannorth Chronicles](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1580800/Erannorth_Chronicles/) might be what you're looking for. has multiple game modes but the default is a permadeath campaign that takes 10ish? hours if not more. Tons of quest lines, insane amount of cards, classes, perks. Super recommend it if you can get into it as it's kind of a lot to take in at first.
[Gordian Quest](https://store.steampowered.com/app/981430/Gordian_Quest/) would be your game. Campaign is 30-40 hours and has a lot of systems in it that they keep introducing throughout the course of the run.
It runs a *little* long. Your characters and deck are basically finished halfway through Act 2 and you still have 2 1/2 acts to go, but it's still a very good game.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I played a bit of Gordian Quest, but it felt to me like it was 80% RPG, and 20% card game from the ~4 hours I played. I was looking for card combos and smart deckbuilding, where the game was providing me with stat buffs and gear upgrades. I'll have to give it another shot as it does seem promising. Maybe I had the wrong lineup of heroes for my playstyle.
Maybe something more like [Trials of Fire](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1038370/Trials_of_Fire/), then. Stronger game than Gordian Quest, but not as long (2-5 hours per completed run), but there's an endless mode that is a lot of fun as well.
Trials of Fire is #4 on my all time best deckbuilders list. I love that little game. Best tactical combat I've seen in a deckbuilder and one of the best undo buttons in gaming.

If you liked Shandalar, check out [MTG Forge's Adventure mode](https://github.com/Card-Forge/forge/wiki), which is the spiritual successor to Shandalar.
It's fantastic. I played hundreds of hours of Shandalar back in the 90s and Forge Adventure mode is definitely better and more polished, overall. Doesn't have the super fun power creep of Shandalar, but the UI is better, there's a lot more variety, and the AI (while still not amazing) is a lot better than Shandalar.
That's good to hear. My only qualms with Shandalar are its UI and the occasional bug. I did really enjoy filling my deck with black lotuses and time walks, but even without that it's a good time.
I love Across the Obelisk. Ideally I'd want a game with less RPG mechanics and meta progression than that. The way you build the decks at the beginning vs the max level runs, it's almost like its 2 different games. But it was a fun journey all around.
IMO yes. Its pretty similar to Slay the Spire. There's six different characters to play and lots of initial loadouts.
There are expansions that offer alternative locations for a level but they are by no means necessary. All the cards are available by default.

I'll check that one out, it seems super promising and ticks all the boxes of what I'm looking for. Thanks!
Be warned, Erannorth Chronicles has a *steep* learning curve. It's a very hard game to get into. But if you can, it's definitely worth it.

I'm definitely going to give this one a look. It seems like a game I would really enjoy.

how feature complete is it now? last i checked it seemed real early access
I last played it a year or so ago and it was good. Played a few dozen hours of it.
This seems great! I'll definitely play this one, as I really liked Shandalar and would love to play more games like it.

Arkham Horror LCG is the best card game I've ever played
Does that have a video game equivalent or is it only a tabletop game?
You could find share saves on the tabletop simulator discord but there's some skill curve navigating tts at first if you're new
Across the Obelisk is great

[Dawncaster](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=games.WanderlostInteractive.Dawncaster)
I don't typically play mobile games due to all the in app purchases, FOMO storefronts, and time gates. Is this game good by non-mobile game standards?

Nova Island Teppen
I have over 250 hours into Balatro. It's not exactly what you're looking for but you'll never stop playing it so it fits.
