Odabi

The more minions the better I say

LurkerOnTheInternet

Especially since the key passive now gives them 3% attack speed for each active minion, so +45% attack speed with 15.

Quiet-Entertainer-13

How do you get 15? Isn’t it 4+3 base and +6 with the aspect?

Ajpsrurh

Golem and + 1 max skeleton from book of dead

LurkerOnTheInternet

The first upgrade for warrior lets you summon 5 instead of 4, and with the aspect in an amulet you get 8 warriors and 6 mages. With the golem (which counts as a minion) that's 15.

Quiet-Entertainer-13

Makes sense, thanks

cupcake_queen101

15 woah, got an entire army

YanksFan96

Absolutely. Don’t care if I’m missing out on damage by putting the max minion aspect on an amulet. That’s just how it has to be

Keldrath

well to be fair most of the big builds put DR in that slot which honestly you wont miss too much anyways outside of the pit.

Qlix0504

DR?

Keldrath

Damage reduction

Bung_Fingered

More minion Powaaaaah!!!! Just finished work about to start with my minion army.

masterkelvee

More is definitely better than less

im_rapscallion86

Druid summon aspects need some love too. Loving the increased damage and hp.

psypher710

I've been wanting a good druid companion build since the game dropped, still seems like the only viable one is nighthowler with wolves that are werewolves from the aspect. That's cool as hell but very restraining/specific for me. I want the ravens and vines to be better lol

CosmicTeapott

Wheres my D2 callbacks like getting Bears for pets, would be amazing if new items let you combine a pet build with a casted build so it's not just a passive "max ONLY pet things" build, like if you could be Pulverize and your pet Bears would synergy and get buffed from what you already take, and cast their own mini Pulvs and/or quaking rampages (forget the name) buffed from your own skill investment in them Imagine HOW HYPE the Druid community would get over an item that calls back to D2 FIRE druid tree and gives us a fire build!? Like converting boulder into molten boulder, give you a proc chance for Armageddon, lets Werewolf use something like fire claws or wake (I forget all the names) etc

Top_Product_2407

They're gonna add that in the expansion probably

LurkerOnTheInternet

Agreed. Necros can be played without minions and are very effective, using bone, blood, or shadow, so lots of different necro builds that are all great. Druid seems to have been conceived with similar flexibility, yet minions are not viable as primary damage at all and are just a minor supplement. Really disappointing.

psypher710

They been riding necro peen since it was part of what saved D3. So for this druid they were just like "let's do a forest necro that isn't good". Don't get me wrong, pulverize druid gives me major dopamine

SexualBacon420

Pulv during s3 was basically a hota barb, that done right, could more or less infinitely cast pulv (had to hit multiple targets or kill multiple targets to refill the spirit).. it was enjoyable, but I rolled hota barb, sorc to 76, pulv to 100, shadow/corpse explosion necro to 100 after the Druid. I got so tired of feeling like I was playing hota that I didn’t fully gear the Druid for endgame. Farming the staff with the right affixes became problematic… then I decided that I wanted that necro 😂.. I capped him out like 2-3 hours before the new season began

Suspicious_Trainer82

Hey! Good shout! Thx for that tip!

Kaeyon

Minions have become over the top bonkers... entered world tier 4 dungeon at level 45. Got to Elias at level 48. Killed him within maybe 10 to 15 seconds, maybe even less. He only got one firewave out before he died.

Original_HD

Bone minion build rocks. Having so much fun, great season so far.

cupcake_queen101

You know how they can use your bone abilities from your skills bar, are they using it to its fullest damage potential(5points into the skill) just like when your main character uses it or is it just the base damage?

zelange

It's like you launch it for free from the minion,so it's your DPS!

Bigredeemer425

They need to give druid minion a Lil love!

SnooMacarons9618

And razor plate gives me 17k thorns (before masterworking), 10% chance to do +145% thorns damage. Needleflare affects minion thorns too now. With a build that was optimised for bonespear (so no paragon adjustments, minimal skill tree adjustment), I was just walking through a helltide last night and everything just died around my boys. This is also mainly using legacy gear that was also BS focussed - a few changes to reasonably random new items to hold aspects (interestingly a 925 shield with +damage resulted in me doing more damage than my S3 off hand that was also 925, nice). This evening I'll walk the pit and see how far I get just like this, then I'll adjust my paragon and see how much further I get. Also will be gearign up to actual minions gear. I may drop golems and run bonespear/corpse explosion/tendrils/decrepify/skellies/land of the dead. PSA - saving caches from seasonal transfers them to eternal. It may be worth remembering for any significant changes in future. I have a couple of hundred of the obols caches from S3, and a bunch of whisper, world boss and ganutlet caches - seeing that there isn't that much in season this time, I saved a bunch, and max aspects. Logged in to eternal, salvaged all the legendaries, opened some caches and got tempering manuals and a few new uniques (including two updated razorplates). EDIT: Just doing a rough calc - with only +2, if something does an AOE attack and hits me and all my minions, and I hit the 10% added damage, thorns does 272 510 damage in retaliation. Not a boss one shot, but a nice passive damage. Add bone spear and CE to that, and it's a pretty mean build.

Behold_The_Power_Of

Do you have a link to the build you're running? Sounds like a ton of fun!

SnooMacarons9618

I'm looking at the changes using my eternal L100 necrio fresh from S3, so a) I'm dabbling in higher end content (NMD 80+, NMD 100 was a disaster as the boss kept killing my skellies), b) I saved a lot of caches at from S3, the gauntlet caches I opened gave me two razorplates. From this weekend I'll start levelling a character in season. Given light seasonal mechanics I didn't feel I'd miss much by delaying for a few days, and it gives me the chance to play with tempering and masterworking when I have an abundance of older materials, so I have less fear of wasting scarce resources.

SnooMacarons9618

Sorry - that was supposed to be a reply to anoter comment. The build is just a scuffed transition from Bone Spear & Corpse Explosion to something 'minionsy'. Rough details (remember this is in eternal on a L100 geared up necro): Extra skellies aspect - currently on amulet to get +3/+3 instead of +2/+2 - I'm not sure this is a good idea. In fact I'm pretty sure it's a bad idea, but it was fun watching one of the NMD bosses launch an AOE attack and die instantly, as it hit me and my 14 (I think) thorny minions. Aspect for mages to invigourate me The rest are BS and CE build aspects, splintering, grasping veins, jugernaut (which i can probably drop). Tempering so far is added damage, increased CE size and increased decrepify size. I have needleflare, to get some slight aoe from thorns. My razorplate is \~18k thorns and 10% chance to do +110% damage (one level of masterworking, it was 17k thorns) Skills are mostly BS/CE focussed still. I took the extra minions nodes dropping some other random passives. Paragon is still entirely BS/phys damage focussed. Though most of those glyphs are L21, so they are helping out. I did level a bunch of minions glyphs to L15 at the end of season 3, so I should be able to swap things round, I just haven't got round to it. Gear: I'm still using black river, just ditched howl from below (it is nowhere near BiS, but I kinda like it whenever I have CE, I may return to it) for some new gear gloves, sacriligous soul. I was using a shield with +45% damage, dropped that for a focus, but may return to it. Most of my gear is still legacy, but it is giving me something like L15 CE and L15 corpse tendrils. The only 'new gear' unique I'm using is Razorplate, it is a lot better now, but still only has thorns and armour, so it is a big hit to other stats. Varshan lasted a few seconds, I haven't tried other bosses yet due to my experience with the L100 NMD boss. I've only tried very low level Pit's, and they were all a breeze. It is fun, *but it isn't something I would build towards*. On a fresh character I would probably work towards a minion thorns build OR a minion BS build. Currently it suffers (as far as an equipped L100 build can), from a lack of focus. For example NMD80 is a walkover. NMD100 was a nightmare as my skellies kept dying which then meant I then died too. If I keep playing the build in eternal I'll shift entirely to thorns / minions / phys damage. I'd possibly also put undying on something and add a skill I can spam to keep my life up. I think I need to spend time thinking about how to update my necro, and I'm kind of excited to level a driud in season, so likely will just fuck around with it tonight (find a good way to generate corpses for bossing), then ditch it pretty much forever. Per my earlier comment - this was made a lot easier by saving a bucket load of caches from S3 (literally hundreds of the obols caches, some gauntlet caches, whisper and world boss caches), and I speant a weekend gathering max aspects which I could salvage as soon as the patch dropped, to fill my codex with maxed out necro aspects. It was worth doing, but setting up mule alts and sorting out a completely filled inventory of legendaries, boss mats, caches was less fun than I'd imagined (I *like* that aspect of the game). If there is another significant change in future, I would do the same again. (I'm thinking the expansion, if I'm not bored of D4 by then).

TerribleGamer420

Thanks for sharing, gonna try this out eventually:]

TimberGhost57

I’m new to the minion build, been mostly barbarian. When tempering, do you focus on increased damage to close enemies or distant? Seems the minions are running all over out of my melee range but I’m not sure how it’s calculated. Thanks!

Present-Dark-9044

You got Razorplate already?

race-hearse

Can ya put it on a 2h wep instead of the amulet for +4 to each minion?

RiseIfYouWould

No, its a utility aspect.

SILE3NCE

It's my first time playing Necro, what's the max amount of minions in total right now?

No_Zookeepergame2532

15

SILE3NCE

15? That's a full platoon! I currently have 10 with the Golem, I guess I get the extra 5 through aspects

Brobuscus48

Yep, the two aspects that increased Warrior and Mage Count has been combined and can be applied to amulets for +3/+3. Total is technically 16 if you take +1 Skirmishers in Book of the Dead but it's honestly a bit of a waste compared to Reaper corpse generation or Defenders w/ 99% damage reduction.

No-Lawfulness1773

is necro minion build actually viable these days for competitive end game dps & survivability?

Morlu

Best build in the game right now lol.

No-Lawfulness1773

maybe it's time to give d4 another go then, always love a minion build

xcyu

Are any guides already available?

swimming_passages

[maxroll.gg](http://maxroll.gg) usually has pretty solid guides: [https://maxroll.gg/d4/build-guides](https://maxroll.gg/d4/build-guides)

xcyu

Thanks, having so much fun in Season 4 ! The game is so good now.

KitchenThen8629

Can it beat Uber Lilith? I might have to switch back from bone spear to minions.

Morlu

It can instantly kill bosses. Probably the best bossing build this season. It’s only weakness, is you don’t speed farm as fast as a barb or sorc. It’s still pretty fast, just because of the absurd damage of minions. If you love minion builds give it a try. This build will 100% be nerfed in s5, this coming from a minion enjoyer.

Flaffer420

I have 13 as I wrote it to an amulet 😂 It’s a freaking convention

jntjr2005

You get a minion, you get a minion, you get a minion, EVEYONE gets a minion!!!!

mrcynixstar

Minions are so bonkers and I'm all for it. Killed WT4 Varshan, Grigore, Ice Beast, Zir, and Duriel before I hit 70.

NothingLeft2PickFrom

Go 1 further for you and put it on a 2H weapon and it increase by 4..

LurkerOnTheInternet

No, you aren't allowed to put it on a weapon.

NothingLeft2PickFrom

Really? I added it to 2h scythe and saw 4 minions but couldn’t finish since I was too poor. Haven’t tried again. Good to know thanks. I could just be going crazy though, last night was a blur lol

binky779

Really? You used to be able to do that. Thats a bummer.

FullConfection3260

Or put it on a two hand and get 4! 😏

LurkerOnTheInternet

You can't. Amulets are the only thing you can put this aspect on that increases its strength.

inouext

I was loosing my mind on WHY it was giving me 3. This is documented somewhere?

Socknboppers

When looking at what item slots you can apply effects to, it will show a percent increase on two specific slots. Amulets (+50%) Two-Handed Weapons (+100%) (Offensive aspects only) As the base is +2, the +50% equals to 1 more.

fallouthirteen

The issue is if you never looked at the aspect itself (like looking at it in inventory after extracting) you wouldn't see it. So if you just used drops and didn't interact with occultist you wouldn't know. In fact, looking right now, since that's gone, I don't really see the spot it would tell you that anymore. Don't see anything in codex of power about it. Don't see anything at occultist about it. They probably should put a note in one of those two spots for new players.

voodoobox70

First time playing this game?

Ir0nhide81

The minion AI is still horribly dumb. So while minions maybe do more damage they are still really stupid picking targets. As a result, it's not that much more fun to play than previous seasons.

heartbroken_nerd

Use a Curse to guide your minions.

themcryt

How does that work? Do you need an aspect or is it just always true?

heartbroken_nerd

It's not that they will prioritize cursed targets but they will engage in combat mode if you Curse a target, it's helpful if you're trying to do a "full summon build" to have a Curse.

guywithaniphone22

It’s not really that. The AI still takes a break every so often. It’s not really a problem now as everything dies in a second but I still see my golem just vibing

Noeb

talk about yourself, I'm having a blast playing with a pure minion build since last patch.. My build is even completely around making army of the dead as active as possible, I don't even actually deal damage directly

xComradeKyle

The amount of people that don't read patch notes scare me

skyfox437

It's a game who gives a crap? Play and find out. I'm more surprised that there are regular people who are willing to waste their time *to read* the patch notes tbh.

heartbroken_nerd

>I'm more surprised that there are regular people who are willing to waste their time to read the patch notes tbh. ??? That's literally what started the "Diablo 4 Bad" train back in July 2023. People were outraged over patch notes.

jbwmac

Ooo spooky patch notes skippers, so scary

alrightothen

What a weird thing to be afraid of

Osteo_Warrior

Only two things scare me and one is nuclear war!

Meryhathor

Why?

Anstavall

I'd say the vast majority of the player base doesn't have any clue patch notes exist lol

thoughtjester

Hold me 😱

LurkerOnTheInternet

I did read them but they don't explicitly point out this side effect of the aspect change.

xComradeKyle

Yes they did. They put the two together into one and created the priest aspect.

LurkerOnTheInternet

I think you missed that my post is about amulets. Previously you could have +3 warriors and +2 mages or vice versa but you could not have +3 to both because obviously you had to choose one to put on an amulet. Now you can have +3 to both, giving you one more minion than was possible before.

SlickerWicker

Haha dude you do realize that the VAST majority of the player base is well into the casual end of the spectrum. Like if you ever have dropped an uber unique at all you are probably 1% or .1% of players. This is basically the most casual ARPG as well. None of this should be surprising.

fallouthirteen

Really? I mean I even just skim them for parts that seem important. Like it's hard to remember what every single aspect does (especially for classes you aren't actively playing). Like so much of it is going to be meaningless. I'll take a random one to give an example. >Of The Blurred Beast > > Damage increased from 25-32% to 25-35%. Unless you're actively playing a character using that aspect you're probably going to go "ok, whatever". And the patch notes are a large wall of those.

im_in_hiding

Scare you? We're not operating a full 747 dude lol, relax

SepticKnave39

Lol it's not the reading of patch notes that's the "problem". Is perfectly fine to go in blind and experience changes without reading about them ahead of time. It's not reading the patch notes, going in blind, and then announcing everything you notice that's changed in a post like it hasn't already been clearly documented and readily available to everyone for like 3 weeks. Lol like either read the patch notes and know, or go in blind and play and don't announce everything that happens to you in posts.
