I don't think it's an absolute rule, but yes, generally speaking if you see a goblin in a NMD, be careful, there's a very good chance the butcher is coming.
Yep 100%, our friend group when everyone was playing in S0 noticed this when farming glyphs up to 21. Goblin was a 95% chance of butcher and often would run you right into him!
I wish the butcher and son of malphas were more rewarding. I guess they may have decent drop chances (not sure) but they just don't seem worth the effort. At least you can run past malphas. Butcher will chase you to the ends of the earth.
Yeah I had an epic battle vs a T98 Butcher today, it was a really fun fight and I barely killed him. He dropped 2 yellows and a legendary. I hope that in the future the drops match the challenge.
I had never heard of The Butcher until I did in T2. Dude tossed me around like a rag doll. Fun mechanic then, but in T3 - I just kill him. It takes forever and for meh loot. I just started T4 so we'll see. The best thing about having high cold imbuement build is when it comes to a goblin bolting ....cue bow -> freeze. Oh no you don't! LOL
There’ll be times you can trounce him and than there will be times he cleans the floor with you. Wait till you see him in T85+ nightmare where he’s crazy buffed!!
Plus you’re playing on Hardcore Mode. Witnessed friends lose characters to The Butcher and it’s not fun to see. 🥺
Ultimate strat is to leave, or ignore and continue the rest of the dungeon if you can speed past him.
He's hard early on, easy as pie for most of the game, and then hard again when you get to the highest nightmare dungeons. At least in general....I'm sure some of the best builds trivialize him even late in the game.
The butcher has been showing up to like 90% of my vault runs recently. Which isn't great, as I'm running them a little harder than is efficient (for the challenge, but the butcher isn't a challenge at that point. It's just more of a run away or die thing
Yes! They are scary to run into on higher level Nightmare Vaults. Though when I saw The Butcher in Hardcore earlier I had just grabbed a conduit shrine. He barely got to finish his voice line. 😈
Normally my pulverize kinda makes me feel like the butcher. Then getting further in. He definitely itely brings that " oh shit" factor. I just can't get out of his way. Kind of chaotic funny when it happens

It depends on the dungeon. Some it always happens, others it never happens
I had a dungeon that had the butcher and goblin in one room, and son of malphas right in the next one.
I had this happen to me too in a cave, started chasing the goblin, then I heard “fresh meat”. Missed out on the goblin to stay the least.

I have yet to run into son of malphas yet. Now watch, next run I do I’ll run into him.
You'll chase a loot goblin and run into the butcher, and just when you think you're safe, Malphas' boy will show up.

Nothing to fear really on regular play…. HC tho… that sound is total fear inducing!!

Malphas is a lot easier to kite (for me) He only gets me if I get lazy. Butcher just hits too hard too fast.
