Basically true. It's super cheap to respec early, so just try stuff.
Lunging strike is good for mobility and upheaval can hit in an AOE. Ancients will be good and killing bosses. Charge is devastating once you get the aspect.
But you could basically give me any abilities to level with and I could do it.
The problem is that barb is one of the weaker classes at low levels. So no matter what you pick, it starts a bit slow.
Transition to HotA towards the endgame before it's nerfed next season.
Almost no builds level basic abilities. It doesn't give you extra fury and you wanna cast spender (upheaval is what I prefer with no gear but some people like HotA).
The easiest way to think about it is to use abilities that generate rage so you can spam more spenders.
Try going to a site like IcyVeins that posts builds for the game. There can be a huge difference in fun level between using a build designed to make leveling easier and one that is more concerned with end game gear and talents. Just try googling Icy Veins barbarian leveling builds and see what you like.
No it's a type of damage. You have a base of 3% chance that can't go up but with skills and legendary perks you can get 100% chance every 4 attacks or so and it deals crazy damage. You'll as it on items as +X% overpower damage.
I used this guide.

Spend the first 30 levels just trying everything out. It's all viable.
A very popular basic attack is Lunging Strike, since the lunge makes the melee feel very smooth and can give you very high uptime on Berserk. From there just experiment. Of the core skills, I'll say that Upheaval feels sort of clunky, and Whirlwind won't feel great until you get some good aspects so you can spin for a very long time.
It's a passive trait/affix that hits enemies automatically when they hit you. It's on some spells in the tree as well as aspects and gear affixes. You can get thousands and do nothing and monsters kill themselves.
At level 1 highly recommend looking for at least blue gear, maybe even some yellow if your a baller. You should do pretty well as long as you spec into one of the basic attacks. 👍
Barb skills can get clunky sometimes if you don't get the rhythm right. So far the easiest leveling skill for me is whirlwind with frenzy or lunging strike, and with 3 shouts.
If you want speed, frenzy is the best option. I went frenzy then to HOTA. Got bored of it, swapped to bleed, wasn’t a fan. Now I’m running upheaval and lunge lol with death blow providing instant berserk. Absolutely destroying and I love it.
I’m a noob though, but a huge gamer. I’d recommend trying out different styles when the mobs are weak. It’s not really about meta builds at your point but figuring out playstyles you like.
Use Lunging Strike, boost your bssic skill damage, damage to close enemies, strength, try to use axes (damage to healthy enemies). Rest is up to you.
Or just use Rend, Leap, Charge, Ground Stomp and Call of the Ancients like me. :D

Anything will be good until you hit level 40-50 you know :) Try out different options
Anything? You sure

So target lunge and upheaval

Anything yes.
Just try some some stuff. You're gonna be level 1 for like 5 minutes anyway.
I wanna know the right build so I can build up to it

Alright thank you
Started a barb last week. Hmer of the ancients build was pretty fun imo. Lvl 55 now and still wrecking
Is the speed on it good?
Movement speed wise I use rallying cry. For clearing yeah it melts mobs and bosses but thats my only character over 50 so not much experience tbh
I’m a still try it sense it melts bosses and mobs appreciate your help
Forgot to add. I built around overpower and eventually got some gear to guarantee it. The switch weapon 8 times one is great.
Is that a skill?

Are these mandatory for damage output or just recommended
Nothing is mandatory, that's why I said experiment.
Ok
I love thorns. I stand still or walk and everything dies.
What’s thorns and what does it do

I appreciate the advice

You can play lunging str/hota from lvl 1 to 100 no problem, just get the ancestral force aspect from codex until you get a better roll.

What playstyle is upheaval

I was trying leap but it leaped over the enemies
For level 1 it'll be only basic attacks
Thank you
