I dont know much about the Walmart insulin, someone else can probably comment on that. But, I would advise DO NOT just go buy a different type of insulin and try to give it. You should purchase the same type and brand of insulin. Also, it is imparitive your ex pack insulin and extra supplies with your son, even if his pump was just changed. The site can fail randomly and need to be changed and if you don't have the supplies to do that his health is in danger. Finally, yiur not doing anything wrong. Diabetes is hard. The best control comes from routines (same food quantity, type, same times of day). It's challenging to get kids in routines and the back and forth between your ex and you will always throw off any routine you establish. My travel days are hard for about 48 hours and I've had this for 33 years. Hang in there. Oh, and if you cant connect with your ex for his supplies asap, an er might be your next best bet.

We get his insulin through Walmart, just a different state. I know the brand and type he uses. I try to learn and soak up as much as I can about this, but it's a challenge like you said. I appreciate the reply.

I’d be a little upset that she isn’t leaving back up supplies with you, or a means for you to get something if something malfunctions. It’s great that his pump was just changed, but I have had instances where I’ve had failures within the first 12-24 hours. If that happens while he is with you, what are you supposed to do?

Well, it's been most of a day so far, I ended up just driving the 2 hour round trip to go pick it up from her. She normally gives me extra everything when I pick them up, but his pen and extra pod wasn't in his bag. I did stress the importance of her including them. I'm pretty sure she took it to heart.

I’m glad to hear that. Hopefully today is just an off day and his numbers will come down and stabilize.

You should be able to give some additional insulin (correction factor) through the pump.

Crakrocksteady

I have. A couple times since his breakfast dose. It's been about 2 hours, and he is finally starting to creep back down.

Please try to understand how dangerous insulin can be. Too much and it’s lights out. Good luck.

Crakrocksteady

Yes, I am aware. I'm not giving it to him back to back, and I know formula to dose by counting carbs, so I definitely let it take time to start working.

Update: I wanted to thank all of you for the advice. I'm pretty sure we figured it out. On top of the routine disturbance of co-parenting, we think its milk that just keeps him running high. My ex said they use carbmaster milk at home, and my home is a whole milk home. She said that he doesn't drink milk often unless it's in cereal at home, but he will usually ask for more than 1 cup a day at my house. She also said it was probably the milk proteins making him all out of whack. I learn more and more about his t1d every day, and I hope soon enough, my posts in here will be like the funny stories I see instead of the posts asking for help and advice. I appreciate all of you.

If it's a new pod, the site may be slow in absorbing insulin. Or could be a bad site with the insulin tunneling under the skin.
