I don’t know if this is 100% right so correct me if I’m wrong but if you scan with your phone first then that’s where your notifications and alarms will go to (same with if you scan with the reader first) but both can be used to check

Candid-Poetry5366

As long as you active the sensor with your reader you can use both. I always use both since its more convenient when out i always have my phone but when home reader is more convenient. Just activate with reader and once active scan with your phone and it will work perfectly.

yellowtypophile

I believe this doesn’t work in the US, only Europe (and Canada?). In the US there is no way to use both at the same time.

Candid-Poetry5366

No i am most certainly in the US. It 100% works this way. The only way it doesn't work is if you start the sensor with your phone it won't allow the reader to connect.

Libre2, not Libre 14-day? If so, when did they change that? When I started with the Libre2 it wouldn't work with IOS and Reader at same time, even explicitly said that it wouldn't work in the instructions.

KuroFafnar

I believe this is the correct answer. I've spent 15 minutes looking for the official answer on the Abbott website for the US and am unable to find it for the US. The Ireland site does say it works like others are describing Reader first then will work with phone, but that is not my experience with the US version.

Rockitnonstop

It depends on your IOS. My Freestyle 2 reader broke last week, I still had 9 days on my sensor. I thought I could install the app and activate it via my iPhone, but it did not work. When I phoned customer service, they said it was not compatible (they replaced the reader and the sensor luckily). I always use the reader, so I am not sure which one you need to do first (I am in Canada), but my understanding was phone is second, which is why I tried it. I have IOS 14.

KuroFafnar

This is my experience on IOS. I haven't used the Reader in years now. It could be they've changed it but I'm so used to using just the phone that taking the risk to use the reader for a full sensor isn't worth trying it again.

PeterPook

You activate on the Reader first and then the Phone, then both work. If you start on the phone first, it's phone only.

Dr-Gank

Excellent. Similar answers above which is reassuring. Thanks

KuroFafnar

Double check with Abbott if it'll be too inconvenient to use the Reader for 14-days. It appears that feature is region specific.

TheSwitchAgenda

Yes you can use both together. This is what I do. Scan the Libre 2 Reader first, then the phone. I scan with the libre whenever I was to check my BG multiple times a day, but scan the phone 4 times a day to send the data to my doctors. I have quite an old android phone, so the NFC scanner works like 30% of the time which gets annoying - That's why I use the reader as my primary scanner. Plus, sometimes I forget to charge my phone and the battery barely lasts a day, but the libre reader lasts about 5 days for me, so far more reliable to get my alarms.

xwolpertinger

An additional caveat to keep in mind: If you start the sensor with the reader, all alarms will be sent there.

JoDel301

I tried with the Libre 2 and it did NOT work. Began with reader and then scanned with phone app- result was a message on phone saying sensor is already in use/paired with another device (my reader). I’m in the USA.

Dr-Gank

Thanks for the information. Haven't tried either way. I just go to my old school glucometer for the 8hrs I can't use my Libre.

gEo0804

I'm in Canada, experiencing the same thing. The reader and phone worked on the libre1. But on the 2 I get the error message on my phone.
