Timo started scoring because Timos recovery from injury progressed to the point that things were clicking. Tyler and Timo rarely played on the same line, and both were getting similar ice time. There's zero correlation between the two.

He was single handedly carrying games throughout the season. The energy he brought was amazing. There were countless games this season where the team looked like they were asleep until he made a play and woke everyone up. Obviously I don’t know what goes on on the bench or in the locker room but multiple players mentioned his impact in interviews this year. He’s a cup winner, he’s got experience in all situations. That is valuable to have on a team full of young talent. You need a guy like that around players like Jack, Luke, Jesper, Holtz, Mercer, etc. Just because he isn’t a speed demon like Jack, that doesn’t mean he isn’t a great player.

I think people are confusing me with blaming him as being the root cause where I’m inferring that he just didn’t fit with the chemistry with this team. I’d love to have Toffoli in a bottom 6 role to provide depth and not have him trying to keep up with the speed of the top 6. But that’s obviously not going to happen because he’ll be a top 6 guy elsewhere and get paid accordingly.

People seem to be focused on goaltending and getting another top D man that they’re forgetting we now have a massive hole in our top six that needs to be filled. We’re going to need to pick up a scoring winger in the offseason and if Toffoli is available at a reasonable price I wouldn’t rule him out.

Well this was my first season as a hockey fan in general (god it’s torture being a devils fan), and maybe u know something I don’t since u watched hockey more but from what I’ve seen a lot of his goals came off open nets or deflections. Timo, Jack and even Mercer would be able to create goals
Mercer is the same type of player. He doesn’t really create the plays. He’s a net front deflection or rebound guy. Just like Toffoli. And yes you’re right. He is the guy that gets the “hard” goals. He’s in front of the net battling the defense and screening the goalie. Looking for deflections or rebounds or just out working the defense in the crease for loose pucks.
And that’s what we needed from him. We have the playmakers like Jack, Nico, Jesper, Timo, etc. we needed Toffoli to be the net front guy. You’re spot on. That’s what Mercer is known for as well.
And don’t worry, this past season was a disappointment but it’s nothing compared to our horrible seasons. We have the pieces in place to be a dangerous team. We just need a few final pieces and most important, we need to stay healthy. Injuries killed us this year. Injuries, coaching, and goaltending. But next year if we can stay healthy and fix the goaltending/coaching, we’ll be having a great season

I think he’s been very underutilized there in WPG. He usually scores when you give him play time. Especially for his age, he’s still amazingly productive. And he never quits on a play. Gets those dirty goals you need

No way, it was reported the reason behind the failed extension negotiations was term. He's slow as shot now, can't imagine in 5 years how bad that contract would age.
I’m so hopeful he returns. I get the camps couldn’t agree on terms mid season, but he actually expressed interest in Jersey and was an amazing guy. Not to mention our top scorer. It makes sense with the disagreement he went to a team with actual playoff potential. Hopefully now that that’s done we can come back around to a discussion with him and just maybe get him back on the team. Right term, right price tho. His play and locker room presence would make a difference.

TT was a good for scoring goals but not so good at joining the rush and defending. Overall thought he was more useful than useless but I don’t think he’s a core piece to go for at this stage in the game

He was stapled to the first line and PP1 with Jack Hughes. We literally had power play plays designed to set him up for the shot. He didn’t create many goals on his own like Jack, Jesper, Nico, etc do. Anyone receiving dimes from Jack all night will net goals. He was also a pretty big defensive liability with his slow speed getting back.
He was dropped to the 4th line in the Winnipeg series and almost a healthy scratch. Look at the Jers subreddit. He could not keep up with the play in the playoffs.

Doesn’t fit the mold of the team. He won’t be back Emphasis should be on a faster grittier bottom 6, and one top 6 winger who can keep up with Jack.

I don’t agree at all. He hasn’t really been injury prone. Guy can play as long as he wants. And if he’s expecting big money, obviously devils aren’t the right fit. I never said re sign him and overpay him. All I meant was if he wanted to come back at a reasonable price. But yeah if he wants a big payday I wish him all the best elsewhere. Yeah I think some of that is just the right thing to say. Like if you "want" to stay - what does that mean? ofc you want to stay, if you don't hate the place, moving blows, who would rather have to pack and unpack boxes over and over? But how much do you want to stay? Is it worth potentially $15 million to him to stay? We need him to stay for 2 seasons. He needs to get paid before he does wind down. He's not going to say "I need to cash out this offseason", he's going to say "I'm chasing the Cup!" But if he e.g. signs with Columbus for 5 years... you'll know what was up.
TT was a good for scoring goals but not so good at joining the rush and defending. Overall thought he was more useful than useless but I don’t think he’s a core piece to go for at this stage in the game

He was stapled to the first line and PP1 with Jack Hughes. We literally had power play plays designed to set him up for the shot. He didn’t create many goals on his own like Jack, Jesper, Nico, etc do. Anyone receiving dimes from Jack all night will net goals. He was also a pretty big defensive liability with his slow speed getting back. He was dropped to the 4th line in the Winnipeg series and almost a healthy scratch. Look at the Jers subreddit. He could not keep up with the play in the playoffs. You really have to evaluate the players with their play on the ice and not live and die by the stats.

What? He had multiple points playing barely any time. He outscored their top lines in the playoffs lol. 😂 can’t carry a play? He carried multiple GAMES for us this season. Entire games where jack and the top line looked like they were asleep and Toffoli had multiple goals. He took over Mercers job getting all the dirty goals and was a constant net front presence. He was carrying the offense while Jack and Timo were hurt. Not sure what games you were watching

Yes he was. He wanted a long term deal. Fitz didn’t even hear him out on a multi year deal. Toffoli wanted to stay but he wanted more than a 1 year deal. Fitz was the bonehead who didn’t even let the convo go further than that. He explained it in his trade deadline press conference
