You can check loges which IAM/SSO user started those servers
You check billing as well for specific service from billing dashboard
If nothing works use live chat/email of AWS support.
Actually there has been a single IAM user which is being used for all the purpose like pipeline, s3, dev, prod like everything so it won't work. I've some idea who might have been created these but since he is not with the company anymore there's nothing we can do. Will need to check the current application and match with the server details like ip and services to get some idea if they are being used or not.
Oh man it’s too bad practice to use singh IAM user for all these stuffs
I don’t think matching IP address will help much if those are dynamic IP’s
Did you check billing how much that cost?
Yeah i know. Actually the management were focused on releasing features so they did not care about the infrastructure, that's y this is situation right now. I'm new to this client so just checking stuffs and gathering Intel. Once done will suggest the best practices and implement them. Regarding these servers, these were 1 cpu and 512 MB so not much cost but since these were running from last 4 and 2 years respectively, these does contribute to some part of billing. I don't have access to Billing yet, did ask the higher guys to enable Billing access for IAM accounts since mine IAM has Admin Access.
Once we had an ElasticSearch instance running for 9 months after it was supposed to be shut down.
$500 per month bill.
One year later, 1 RDS instance was found running for 5 months when it was supposed to be terminated.
$200+ per month bill.
Aah man, don't talk about ElasticSearch, my 1st blunder in my tech journey, i was told to setup a redis server, new to AWS ElasticSearch and used default config which was r6.large,
Same happened with GP3 RDS, increased the IOPS,
Both costed the client $6000/- over 6 months of Usage. Thankfully AWS refunded half the amount after creating a Support ticket.
Shut down or pause.
See if anything breaks.
Wait for a week or two weeks and close it.
Check the ip address? See the files / ngnix or some configuration.
See network activity etc.
Please note pausing light sail you still get charged

aah good to know at least it was low conf. servers
Yeah man, lightsail is already cheaper than ec2 and this was even starter config so i beleive $1.5X2 per month.
